2017 Bentley Bentayga UNBOXING Review - Astonishing Doesn't Even Begin To Describe It

  • For today's unboxing review we bring you the all-new 2017 Bentley Bentayga, an uber luxury SUV that nobody specifically asked for and yet Bentley can't build them fast enough these days. Where to begin? Well, how about its engine: a twin-turbo 6.0-liter W12 with 600 hp and 664 lb-ft of torque. Power is sent to all four wheels through an eight-speed automatic transmission. Performance? Try a 0-60 mph time of 3.5 seconds, a 0-100 time of 8.5 seconds and a top speed of 184 mph. Yes, those are literally supercar performance numbers. But the Bentayga is much more than performance; it sets the luxury bar extremely high and makes other SUVs, such as the Land Rover Range Autobiography SV seem almost, well, below par.
    With a base price of $229,100 buyers will receive a lot of standard goodies, such as a panoramic sunroof, heated rear screen, acoustic front and side glass, an 16-way electric front seats. A second-row bench also comes as standard fare and if you want a set of captain's chairs that'll cost you an additional - wait for it - $11,015. Our tester came to a final sticker price of $258,040 and yet many customers will easily surpass the $300k mark with even more opulent extras. But is the Bentley Bentayga is a segment game-changer? Heck, does it create a new SUV segment entirely? We discuss that and much more in the review. Enjoy!

    Yes, the quality is top notch, but to be honest, interiors of Mercedes, Audi and other real-world luxury cars' are not a long way off in my opinion, and even better in design-wise. For example, look at the S-Class interior.

    • @carbuzzcom
      @carbuzzcom  Před 7 lety +1

      True, but, then again, the S-Class interior is jam-packed full of new and advanced tech. Bentayga buyers are a different crop. They typically just want to show off their money. Can't blame them, honestly.

      Mercs are nowhere near the same quality. Get inside a Bentley (any) and then a Merc and you would see what I mean. There is a world of difference.

    This is superb but the attention to details and luxury isn't a match for any Rolls Royce in my opinion. But i agree it's possibly the best uber luxury SUV out now, its only real rival is the Range Rover SV Autobiography the limited editions. Let's wait and see what Rolls Royce brings to the market though.

      @carbuzzcom  Před 7 lety +1

      Have you ever been in a Bentley? A Bentayga? Let me tell you: the attention to detail in this thing is fantastic. And yes, it'll be very interesting to see how Rolls-Royce and Range Rover respond...

    Wait, the original exp 9f was the one people wanted. It looks much better in my opinion.
    Most of the people I've spoken to are disappointed with the bentayga because it just looks like a cayenne.
    I actually take offense to you saying that the 9f was ugly

      I'll say it again: the EXP9F was ugly. Saw it in person at Geneva. Still suffer from a nervous twitch because of it.

      If you say so. I'd much rather have that than this Porsche Cayenne/Buick enclave/VW Touareg/Audi q7 rebadge.
      It actually had character, and stood apart. Style wise, this looks just like ever other suv on the market

      Conspiracy Note: If you notice most new cars (concepts excluded) do not deviate from others that drastically. I think car manufacturers try to control the radicalization of the car market. Kind of like the diamond market, artificially controlling the supply side of diamonds to inflate the value/price.

    Does the leather trim still have that iconic leather aroma of those early RRs and Bentleys?, where they used Connolly hide leather, which in my opinion, was the quintessential of luxury, in the smell of leather. Other cars with genuine leather trim, certainly have a leather smell, but nowhere near as appealing, as in those early Rolls etc. Does VW continue the tradition of using Connolly leather?...

    • @carbuzzcom
      @carbuzzcom  Před 7 lety

      Honestly, I've never smelled the inside of an early RR or Bentley. OK, that just sounded kinky even to me. But what I can say about the Bentayga's interior smell was that it carried the scent of leather wonderfully. Don't know whether VW still goes with the Connolly leather.

    • @davidhamilton506
      @davidhamilton506 Před 7 lety

      CarBuzz - Unboxing Everyday Cars and Supercars Well it's the only way I could convey what I meant, but yes, that leather scent in those earlier models remains virtually to this day, as some years ago, I worked as a hire car driver and one of our cars was a 1986 Rolls Royce and it still retained that heady aroma that just bespoke luxury. From what you describe, the new Bentayga could well be using Connolly leather. Thanks for your feedback, btw, I appreciate it, cheers...

    I'd love to see someone actually off-roading in this, then I'd laugh at them for not getting a jeep. What's the point of a big luxury suv? They're just not as worth it. Why wouldn't you get the Mulsanne instead? Oh wait, because people want to feel big

    Are you the same guy that did the review of the Cadillac Escalade? If you are, dude you are ridiculous.
    You essentially bashed the platinum edition Escalade for having the same engine as the GMC Yukon Denali and underpinnings as a Chevy Tahoe. Stating how you thought it was "too expensive" to be a gussied up Chevy. But yet, I just listen to you fawn over this Bentley. Which the truth is, this Bentley Bengtayga is nothing but a gussied up Volkswagen. This $250,000 Bentley is nothing but a unnecessary, overly-expensive Volkswagen.

    • @carbuzzcom
      @carbuzzcom  Před 7 lety +2

      That's me, Mr. Ridiculous! Look it, a Cadillac - any Cadillac - isn't a Bentley. Period. But also bear in mind, the only VW the Bentayga share a platform with is the next generation Tourareg, which is quite premium as well. The Escalade, at its core, has the same platform as the Chevrolet Silverado 1500. Also, the same platform that underpins the Bentayga will also be used as the basis for the upcoming Lamborghini SUV. Not exactly a lightweight.

    • @12mojokojo
      @12mojokojo Před 7 lety +4

      Lol basically a Volkswagen platform will be shared with a $250K Bentley and a $200K plus Lamborghini.... & yea also $49k Volkswagen SUV.
      How is that possible? Why would Bentley & Lambo do such a thing!?
      Lol because they know suckers for "brand names" wouldn't notice or care, because paying $250K for a Volkswagen doesn't matter as long as it says Bentley or Lamborghini & offer insane prices for mundane features. (Bentayga's $160K option for a dashboard clock)
      But according to you, a Escalade is somehow bad, not good, or another cheap costing cutting vehicle by GM because it shares underpinnings (nothing else) with a Tahoe & an exclusive V8 engine with only another $70,000 vehicle. #BiasedReviews
