  • Matt Stephens joins Mark Cavendish on the Isle of Man for a cycling tour of the Manx Missile's playground. Having grown up in a tightly knit community and becoming one of the most successful sprinters in the world, Cav always loves coming back to the island he calls home. Stretching the boundaries of what might be considered a Cafe Ride, the guys take in the sights and enjoy a truly unique dining experience.

Solid gold! I’ve heard for years that Cav is a lovely person, but never got to see him in this light until this episode. What a pleasure to watch; Cav has one more fan to add to the pile. Not because he’s a hammer of a bike rider, but a quality human being.

to be fair to Mark Cavendish, i think for a very long time he's been open about discussing things at depth, i find that if you look at older TV interviews, he's eager to discuss technical aspects of the race, or to express gratitude to the team he's riding with, but the people interviewing him cut him off with cliche follow-ups, and the fast paced editing in documentaries doesn't do him justice. Mark Cavendish is a reallly interesting man, obviously a top notch very accomplished athlete, but also super interesting to listen to.

Ok, first I'm sorry it took so long for me to find this ! Matt does a great job with the interview and Cav is a great personality and doing this episode with him is so much more engaging than other cycling personalities I have seen in these episodes. He just connects with Matt like a real person. My daughter saw him while i was watching the Tour years ago and just saw something special in him, she even had photos of him on her computer,,, and she doesn't even ride a bike. He just has that endearing personality. That, my friends, is what makes a superstar. We have always rooted for him in our house , and always will.

People from the generation before me would say the same general names in terms of heroes (Merckx, Hinault, Lemond etc...), For me though, Cav for sure. Met him and Matt at the Dimension Data training camp in Cape Town and had the pleasure of spending a day on the bike with him doing sprints.
He was just beginning his TdF career as I was stepping on a bike, and every day helps me get on and ride

Matt, thanks so much. So often we only see the steely determination on the face of a champion. Your interview style is disarming and helps to peel back and reveal the real Mark Cavendish. Well done and hope for more.

Matt. thank you for letting us finally meet the real Mark Cavendish, who is an extraordinary person. This is one of the best on the wall interviews I've ever seen because it was based on two successful people having an honest conversation. Thanks.
