Matt Stephens The Cafe Ride - Sir Bradley Wiggins Episode | Sigma Sports

- Matt Stephens joins Sir Bradley Wiggins to revisit the Time Trial route where he won gold at the 2012 London Olympic Games. Just ten days after being crowned Tour de France champion in Paris, Brad put in a phenomenal performance that went down in history as one of the most perfectly executed races of all time, resulting in a gold medal on home roads.
Ten years later, Wiggo's memory of his race execution is impeccably sharp - almost as sharp as his impressions of Matt Stephens.

I find Brad’s self consciousness of his insecurities around his early 30’s very inspiring. Being able to acknowledge that at any point in life is an incredibly powerful thing. Great, truthful and insightful interview. Now sell me some goddam S-works 8s shoes please Sigma, cheers thanks x
Thanks Mat!
He's a tosser
"Good Luck Brad" was the best part.
The Botoga story was a close number two.
Some classic moments! Glad you enjoyed it!
i see what you did there...
Quite literally.

best one yet, nice work Matt. I was fat and out of shape and just turned 40 when Brad won le tour. The way he was riding in the first few stages of that tdf inspired me to take up road cycling and get fit. Changed my life in a lot of ways. I cycled london to brussels the following year as a result of that inspiration getting me out on the bike. Still doing it today 10 years later. All thanks to Brad 👍
Same here!!
Thanks for watching, great to hear your story!
Way to go
The most decorated british cyclist ever, and Bradley Wiggins.
😅
Actually no, that'd be Beryl Burton
7 times world champion, 90 domestic titles and every single time trial record up to 12 hours.
Wiggins is one of the greats, arguably the greatest male British cyclist but the greatest British cyclist is a woman from Yorkshire
@@ynotnilknarf39 Whooooosh
????????????? No! not even close, he won a Tour, BFD! Track doesn't count in the world of road racing and he is not on par with Graeme Obree.
@@brianmcg321 not really, it was a piss take obviously but Wiggins is the most decorated male British cyclist, just not th most decorated British cyclist.
Really funny & insightful, nice one guys
Fantastic stories from fantastic people! Glad you enjoyed it.
That impression of George Hincapie after Ghent wevelgem was spot on 😂

I once messaged Matt directly to thank him for making a video I loved, and he messaged me back! It was such a nice gesture and it made me love him all the more. Cycling can be an intimidating hobby to get into, with so much snobbery and douchebaggery, but here's a British national champion having a laugh at his own expense and being so relatable and approachable. He's the patron saint of the everyday joe giving it a go.
Thanks for your story! Matt is a fantastic personality and is always incredibly encouraging and approachable to everyone in cycling. We are lucky to be able to work with him.
Whoever came up with the idea for The Cafe Ride, you are a genius. This was absolutely brilliant. Meaningful, nostalgic, entertaining and funny all in one. This series needs to be nominated for awards!
Thanks Johnny! Great to hear your thoughts.
Agreed, almost worth setting up a Patreon for so that the fans can support the production, expensive promo for a modestly sized bike shop. Sign me up.
Jerry Seinfeld came up with it.
@@brianmcg321 ha, came looking for this reply.
I really hope that soldier sees this video.
I’m only 5 minutes in and already love this film. “Good luck Brad, see ya later”.
Classic moment! Thanks for watching.
The best advert ever for Wiggins as a person
Thanks for watching!
Matt is a LEGEND, period.
I'm so glad you are continuing the cafe rides! I absolutely love these. Matt cracks me up with his infectious laugh.
Thanks Joshua! We're really glad we can bring you these fantastic rides with great personalities.
I've been missing Matt's laugh as of late, this was great fun!
I remember that day vividly, I was at work watching it on the TV with my then new to cycling boss, Watching each rider cross the line and catching a glimpse of my dear old Dad on the finishing line (he was the chief judge) was a personal moment of pride, seeing him briefly talking to Bradley in this video as he was looking for his family makes me smile.. another great Cafe ride, just wish Dad was still here to see it. I have a great picture of him sitting in Bradley’s throne outside Hampton court.
Incredible moment! Thanks for watching.
Matt is a LEGEND, period.. That impression of George Hincapie after Ghent wevelgem was spot on .
Absolutely brilliant video. Being honest I was never a fan of Brad until the last few years seeing and listening to him on Eurosport at the grand tours. This video showed he is a down to earth guy with same issues and passion as all us cyclists who just love the sport. Matt is very good at these videos the way he reacts and speaks to these riders is just so good and that laugh is hilarious. Chapeu to all involved in making these videos👍👍
Thanks for watching Michelle!
Goose bumps 10 years on shows how amazing it was at the time. Some of the power and speed figures are from a different planet……what a performance.
Incredible numbers! Glad you enjoyed it.
Enjoyed this so much, hilarious and emotional. Great to see Brad laughing.. As always matt, top job 👍👍👍
Thanks for your comments, Patrick! Glad you enjoyed it.
Man, this is SO good. Love the storytelling. Wigs honesty and vulnerability is refreshing.
I always knew that Matt Stephens was a funny guy, but I have to admit that Brad had me rolling on the floor laughing. I think that I found it even funnier because I did not expect that. Thanks so very much for making this truly awesome video series!
Thanks for your comments!
Remember it very well. My dad lived down the road at Thames Ditton so we could walk to the course in the morning. The noise was incredible. You could hear and feel Brad coming down the road.
Thanks for the insight! Glad you enjoyed it.
The best one yet. Anything with Brad in gives me goosebumps. Honestly the guy is a legend and just seeing him on a bike is exciting. He would still drop almost any club rider out there 💪🏻
Doing 500 watts like it’s nothing…
@@jonm8423 casual 💪🏻😂
Thanks for watching!
@@sigmasports an amazing one to watch. 2 great characters bouncing off each other perfectly 👌🏻💪🏻
Refreshing to see Brad still riding rim brake
I was thinking the same!
Good enough for him, good enough for me.
Absolute gold. I live in Molesey and still remember that day like it was yesterday. So good to see Wiggo on all these roads and cafes again!
Thanks, Pete!
I've really missed these. Matt has an amazing ability to take conversations about cycling to a whole new level.
I genuinely think Matt Stephens is one of the most underrated interviewers of our time. It's a skill that's very hard to teach without it becoming mechanical. He blends his own knowledge, personality, and humility with a genuine curiosity to hear people's stories.
@@MatthewBeedham I'd love to see Kenny Van Vlaminck doing these rides
Thanks for watching and letting us know your thoughts Oliver!
Best thing I’ve watched on CZcams. What chemistry between two legends talking about a day that will live on in my memory. Please make a full length documentary of this epic. Thank you so much.
Really appreciate the comments, thanks Mark.
If this is the best thing you've seen on CZcams you obviously haven't seen chimpanzee riding on a Segway.
Nobody could do these better than Matt. I really hope he gets payed handsomely for these. they are all brilliant.
This was bloody lovely, the footage from the day still gives me goosebumps.
Absolutely incredible. Thanks for watching.
Could listen to these two talk all day. Brad is an absolute legend, and his self-reflection about his past is humbling and inspiring. He’s the reason I, and thousands others, ride bikes today.
Thanks for watching! Glad you enjoyed it.
Matt, can't wait to see you back on GCN (really glad to hear your commentary again in the meanwhile)
A gcn special with matt Dan and si and then a race to finish v Manon hank and conor
Have to say, being from Kingston and being about 12/13 when Bradley came tearing came through my hometown, it was electric. Honestly one of the coolest atmospheres I have ever experienced and inspired me to start riding more. Brad is a true champion and that day was awesome.
Thanks for the insight! What a moment.
“You can’t prepare yourself for success” - never thought about that until now. Powerful stuff.
I'm absolutely loving these. Can't wait to watch more. THANK YOU
Another absolute classic Matt! We just need the TV series now. You and Brad doing a cycling version of Mortimer and Whithouse’s Gone Fishing! It would be fabulous!
Good shout, that would be a great tv series. Road cycling could do with another boost in the uk.
Thanks for watching! More cafe rides coming in 2022.
Great stories out there, love it! And no kidding: Cheers from Bogotá 🇨🇴🤣
Great interview, interesting to hear Brad being so open. Great athlete and inspiration to many.
Brilliant Matt, Brads one of the best !! great interview.
I could watch these all day absolutely brilliant
Great show. Matt, always great to see you. You bring out the best of whomever you interview. This made me appreciate Sir Bradley even more. Thank you both 💕
Wiggo is hilarious. What fun to listen to him.
Many thanks Brad and Matt, really enjoyable and insightful..very best to you both.
Pair of living legends. Excellent.
Brilliant once again, absolutely loved it. Thank you Matt, Bradley and the Sigma Crew ♥️

Wow! I just watched this for the first time. Two spectacular people being human together! This was the best! Thank you.
I love The Cafe Ride series! It’s a really great production with some really great people. As I sit home recovering from injury I’m digging through to find all the episodes. I can’t wait for more. Great job, Matt.
Brilliant. Lovely bit of history and told with a great balance of reverence and humour #chapeau chaps 👏👏👏
This is the best, most entertaining and yet behind the scenes video about cycling ever… I’ve watched it several times…
Every now and again you see something that makes you realise why you ride. The laughs, the stories and the sheer joy of good company with a like minded passion. I absoloutly loved this and was in tears of laughter at the end. Absolute legends!
Thanks Paul! Great to get your thoughts!
Simply brilliant. Love the Café ride series.
Thanks Adrian! We love that you're a fan of the series.
Definitely my favorite Sigma video yet. Thank you!
Thanks for watching Paul! Great to hear your support.
What a great down to earth bloke Bradley Wiggins is. A very honest interview & some great stories too.
Please make more of these! One of the best cycling serials ever!
Great stuff. Hat's off to Bradley for being so open.
Have to say this is absolute gold, a great double act. Well done guys!
Really enjoyed this. It also provided the best glimpse of Brad I've ever had. Excellent work!

Great to relive 2012 and get a snippet into Brad's view of this HUGE achievement. Truly inspiring. Thanks so much

Goosebumps at that finish. Wanted an hour of that! Chapeau lads 👏
An Incredible moment in sporting history! Thanks for watching Liam.
Another fantastic video Matt and the team. Plus good on Brad for being so open about it all too.

Matt, thank you and Sigma for these Cafe Rides! This interview and the one you did with Cav are my favorites! You have a very warm and engaging interview style that is truly a pleasure to watch.

Thank you, gentlemen. Such an interesting ride, filled with great stories,...leading to memories of other rides and other stories. It's amazing how the small things can stick with you so many years later. Great stories.
Cheers Kathy! Glad you enjoyed it.
Absolutely brilliant podcast
My god what a year that was, too easily forgotten until you watch something like this. Thanks Brad.
Thanks Matt!
Now that was a real classic ride and chat, a top cyclist, just chatting and being normal, and so funny and open, also well done Matt, youre in a very trusted position with these people, they really open up to you.Gold medal incoming.
Loved this one, but then again, I've loved them all. Long may the 'cafe rides' continue.👍
More Cafe Rides are incoming for 2022!
Great mix of awe, nostalgia and belly laughs. Loved it.
Thanks Antony!
Thanks Matt.
This has to be the best Cafe Ride. Such great memories and stories mixed with some heart felt emotions from the day & before as well.
Thanks Marcus!
Sweet, honest, emotional, heart warming. And I love that you laugh together. Feels so good!
Thanks for watching!
Absolutely brilliant production and interview by Matt. This should be on TV as a series!
Thanks for your comments Carlton!
Two absolute legends! One gold medalist…. Loved this, so funny, warm and insightful. Chapeau.
Thanks Ian!
From the other side of the world, thank you for the tears of laughter! Bradleys impression of Hincapie and the poo story really made my day!...I've been a Bradley Wiggins fan for years and Matt with Sigma really make the most entertaining cycling series on CZcams 👍
Massive thanks for the comments!
Such a good episode. Thanks for putting this remembrance together.
Thanks for watching, Lynn!
Brilliant! I don't normally watch a YT twice but I'll be coming back to this one again for sure!
Thanks Peter!
I thoroughly enjoyed watching this one Matt and what a great trip down memory lane this must have been for Brad and for everyone who watched the race, like myself, 10 years previously. It was this generation of British cyclists that changed the whole perspective of cycling on the world stage where we once would have only dreamed of stuff like this actually happening.
It's hard to pick the best one out of this mini series, it's even harder to understand how they don't have 1000s more views! All episodes are amazing, Matt is awesome being the host 👏
Huge thanks for your comments Gary!
What a great video about a bloke from Kilburn (near me).. He's a supremely talented athlete. A complete maverick!...humble, cool and honest. . Love him
Thanks for watching, and for your comments! We really appreciate it.
Loved this - so many great memories from near ten years ago
Thanks David!
That was a gem of an interview, as well as watching friends catching up. Great characters.
Nice one.
Greetings from JC, New Jersey.
Glad we could bring this conversation all the way to NJ!
This piece needs archiving. Absolute magic. Two cycling national treasures for different reasons.
Absolutely agree! Thanks for watching.
Got recommended this about 1000 times thought I’d finally watch it - loved it
Thanks, Fergus!
Fantastic! You really have a nick for getting people to open up that bit extra, and when you add some proper gem anecdotes... Fantastic!!
Thanks for watching!
One of the best interviews I have seen. Honest and feelings of imposter syndrome in a top level athlete and making Brad human and relatable. Also very funny and well put together. 👏
Thanks Manny! Great to hear your thoughts.
I really enjoyed this video. Thanks to both of you.
Thanks for watching, Neil!
Superb. Great mix with spectators footage…and the picture on the wall, fabulous.
Thanks for watching and your comments!
Another excellent café ride, would love to see one done with British legend Les West, still riding at 78...
Thanks! We will see what we can do....
What a wonderful watch. All the gentle fun and repartee we expect from Matt. I lived in Hillingdon in the 90s and was a regular at the original Sigma. Used to race and ride on those roads including the Hampton Pool tris, didn't get the same consideration from drivers then as the boys did now. I moved to Vancouver, BC in 2009 and so missed the 2012 Olympics but lived vicariously through the stories Matt and Brad shared. Cheers Guys.
Cheers for your comments Julian!
