- The key to growing a successful and bountiful kitchen garden is making maintenance easy and enjoyable, and the best way to do that is to place the garden on the way to a destination to sit and enjoy all your hard work! This past month we’ve been creating the ultimate destination in our French country garden, a place to not only sit and enjoy the garden view but also a place to gather family and friends, make memories around the fire pit and generally enjoy what we imagined our new life in France to be all about, long summer nights outside! This outdoor lounge has been built to last, with repurposed stones from our property for the floor and a solid wooden pergola that should be dripping in grapes soon! Adding the gorgeous outdoor lighting was on our must have list from the start and it does not disappoint, we’re absolutely here for the wow factor and it is such a wow! We think we've created the perfect oasis to come after a long days work on the stone house renovation and I can see it being one of our favourite places in the world.

Hi Jack & Becs, I can’t tell you how AMAZING this is!!! How Amazing you both are! I absolutely LOVE your garden and patio. Jack, how do you know how to do these things? The stone base and the fire pit , the lighting is Perfect and so pretty. The things you did by yourself, Jack, would normally take 3 or more men to complete! Becs, your finishing touches and plantings look like something from a high end magazine! I think it Should be on a magazine cover. Your house is so pretty and when you have spare time (🤣🤣🤣) and do a simple paint wash on the door and shutters, Becs your pictures of it all could Definitely be in a magazine❤❤❤. Pictures from the gate up thru the gardens up to the front of the house- Gorgeous🥰. I am Totally blown away. 😘😘😘

You're so right, Becs has the most amazing eye for styling and designing things and really made the space wow (I was totally stumped on how to lay out all the stones, but she knew exactly where each one should go!) - for me, the first part of any project is watching all the amazing CZcamsrs out there sharing how to do things - and I think I have a wee advantage being tall 😂

Yes, they're doing such a good job of growing (we haven't loved all the recent rain, the garden sure has, and that's a great consolation 😁) We'll have to do an garden update in the next vid maybe!

I know France gets tornadoes, so you should think about getting your gazebo tied down to the ground, as one big storm will whip it over in a heartbeat or toss it towards your house. I’d hate to see all your hard work having to be redone. Hope that helps. MG.

Sometimes you can do the “trick “ stone method….so we had a nice amount of old huge slabs ..but not enough….from our 17 c cottage….so we used the thick old ones where you could see the edge …ie placing them in prominent areas …steps …edges ….not wasting the depth …then used new slabs the same colour and texture to fill in where you couldn’t tell they are skinny….the overall effect was a little cheat of the crazy heavy ones and new …can’t really tell the difference….but love seeing the old ones edges as ssssoooooo thick.😊😊

Yes the redstarts are awesome, they nest in the wall of our house so we hear their wee babies chirping away all day ❤️ That is such a good idea, we definitely had a couple that weren't quite so thick, and you can't tell 😉

Hello Jack and Becs! My name is Bethany, I came across your channel just a couple days ago and have already binged ALL of your videos (thanks, Covid 😅). You guys are so lovely to watch, and your teamwork is very inspiring. The video editing is top notch! I cried when Becs cried, I hugged my children when Jack talked about being able to work outside around the family. I am going to have a hard time waiting for your next episode!
I do have a question. Now, I do not have experience with the material you built your veggie beds with. And I do live in a very different climate (California’s Mojave Desert), so I’m not too familiar with regular rain and all that water. But I am worried about the flooding you got back in November. Did it not come up into your yard? Will these beds be able to handle that if it happens again?

Hi Bethany! so lovely to meet you and read your comment - seriously made our day ❤️ Sorry to hear you had covid, we've been there and it sucks! Hope you're feeling better now. Only time will tell but we're pretty confident these beds will be just fine with the rain, it's the same way all the houses and garden walls have been built around us, and they have no problem at all when it floods (except for a bit of algae /moss) - that's part of the reason we picked the stone option, like the three little pigs we've tried a garden on the ground with straw, then a wooden one and now finally onto the tough stuff 😂
