What an accomplishment Dan & Laura đđđđđđđđ
Perhaps some folk commenting should remember that when you bought the land neither of you had ANY experience of building ⊠and yet slowly slowly with a good attitude and perseverance look at what youâve managed to accomplish âŠ.. youâve had a hectic rain storm and NO leaks âŠ
Enjoy that feeling of âwe did itâ and donât let any negative comments put a damper on this amazing achievement !!! Sooo proud of you both ⊠Durban SA đżđŠ
Hi Durban. From Jeffreys Bay East Cape. I agree, there are people that just can't keep there nasty comments for them self's.
100% agree with you. Those that critically acclaim their dissatisfaction are not worth the thought. They are doing their thing others i believe jealous of these two folk
Agree, couldn't say it any better. They are a lovely couple and learn as they go. And those "other people" should go to another channel if they don't like what they hear or see.
Itâs so heart warming to read the above kind comments from people. Not only adding loving words but also defending the hard work Dan and Laura put into building and learning new skills. At the beginning of the each video they always emphasise that they are still leaning and all the knowledge they are gaining is actually doing things for the first time. Thatâs the appeal, seeing two people not shy away from hard work and getting stuck in and not being scared to say, we donât know how to do this but we are willing to learn and give it ago. Im so very proud of them both. And Iâm not just saying this because Dan is my son and Laura is my daughter-in-law â€â€ïžâ€ïž
@@carlharrison3661 oh, you are responsible for these two?đ€ŁGreat job. Laura and Dan go a long way to restoring my hope in the future of humanity, seriously. Such hard working, genuine, thoughtful young people (from a 58yo!), willing to give difficult, challenging things a go. I love them and their channel dearly. They inspire me on tough days to get up and give things a shot.đđšđ
Big congrats on the finished roof. As you say at the end, âyou have both learnt so much doing the roofâ I also see that, your strengths, is what makes you both a great team! âKeep the faithâ and continue to look after each other.
That is a very arduous job: but the most important you have ever done. What a massive achievement. For the first time since you moved to Portugal, you have a solid, safe, weatherproof home. What an enormous step; very, very well done!
Great job guys, Iâm so impressed with the roof. It looks absolutely beautiful and blends in like a traditional roof. đđ»đđ»đđ»
Gloves. Gloves are very worthwhile.
Well done Dan and Laura đ You've come so far on this homestead ... nothing can stop you now! Go Guys! đż
Gosh, I was getting worried about y'all. You hadn't posted in a while. I just like watching y'all work together and do so well. Oh for my wife and I to be so young again and working hard together.
Your video not only showcases the impressive renovation of a stone barn into a functional off-grid space but also celebrates the dedication and vision required for such a project. By documenting this transformation, you've inspired viewers with the possibilities of sustainable living and adaptive reuse of historical structures. Your commitment to showcasing the journey from start to finish is both admirable and motivating. And I am Floating Village Life.
What a lovely roof! Awesome Portuguese style home. Well done you two!đ
Looks fantastic and I bet it feels wonderful to have a comfortable space to sit and shelter from the rain, the winds or the cold. May you be able to finish the interior work before winter! Bless your new home!
The roof looks great!! What a relief to have it finished. Iâm excited to see what the next project isđ
I am super proud of you two. The house looks great and all the hard work and swet is going to pay off. Enjoy every moment of the results of hard workâ€â€
God bless you for your perseverance. Thank goodness thatâs behind you. Youâre so brave for seeing this daunting work through. Nicely done hope you can sit for a bit and catch your breath. Blessings from đšđŠđđ
Roof looks beautiful. Nice choice of materials. Great Job. Nice views from the roof. Thanks. Next a sky light. ha ha
Good you will be trimming back the trees to prevent rubbing and scratching the side pieces.
Well done Laura and Dan what an achievement the little house is looking good â€
A great achievement Laura and Dan.. When you both were lying on the roof and waving I was waving back to the pair of you and smiling my head off at your achievement, I am very proud of you both. The roof is looking fantastic and blends in so well with the land. Good choice. Have a lovely day.
I like your choice of roofing..great work
Thank you so much đ We thought it was a better option than tiles, as for tiles we would've needed to add more beams to support the weight, plus with the panels the insulations included :)
What a great accomplishment to have built your own roof on your beautiful home. You have both come a long way since you purchased your land.
You are learning all the time, overcoming your fears and growing as a couple. Well done to you both. đđ„đŸđâ€
Laurie and Dan, congratulations on the super work! Best wishes, Steven
Thanks Steven, was a tough job for sure đ
Guys, it's very complicated for you, because the sheets on the edges are easily put on by pushing the first one as you did before but taking it to the top tip and measuring the rest that was left at the bottom and inserting it in the same way and that's it, I recommend you see more videos about house roofs, greetings đ
another great job and a great accomplishment , pretty soon it will not be called a barn but it will be called a home
Hey family, make sure the roof is secured, in Jamaica now we're under the influence of Beryl the lady hurricane
Nice work. Suggestion trim all tree branches that will blow against your roof. It may prevent damage and costly repairs.
great roof! now a drain pipe that leads into a
water tank, cutting back the branches that touch the roof and youâre done!!! đźđźđđ
The roof is beautiful. The whole place is looking gorgeous.
Superb ...the roofing AND the filming!!
Now take a break!!đđ
Congratulations on completing this major milestone! I never miss your videos and really appreciate you sharing your story with us. Having a proper roof is a life changing event! Cheers!đđ„
Bless your new home
I give you so much credit for all your efforts
Onward and Upward Dan and Laura!! So thrilled for you both accomplishing a New roof!! LET'S GO!!!
Nice job! In the future, any additions will be easy as pie!!đ Can't wait to watch how the interior finishing goes!
The traditional roof has come out so beautifully. Congratulations Dan and Laura. You need to tap yourselves on the back.
Laura and Dan you have done a fantastic job congratulations.â€ïžâ€ïžâ€ïž
When you have a roof on your head, Laura and Dan,you're going on progressing day after day. So pleased for you both. Can't wait to see you inâ€â€â€
Fantastic achievement and one that gives you a solid roof over your head and a dry home ...be in before xmas đđ
Congratulations of the completion of your new roof guys...Nick would be so proud of you both. You finished it with the clouds in sight and then when the heavens opened it was as dry as a bone inside, well done.
đ huge congratulations to the both of you on finishing the roof!đ
You two never cease me âŠ.. you never say we canât do this⊠you just crack on and say yep, we will give it a go! I love the roof and all youâve achieved so far! Stay safe⊠â€
Well done guys. Getting the roof finished is such a big step.
I bought an old dilapidated farmhouse in SW France, but haven't made half the progress you guys have made. You put me to shame! That said, every time I watch one of your videos it inspires me to make a start on another of the countless tasks that I need to do to finish the house.
The plastic is so hard to remove because the panels have been in stock for a long time with temperature changes, hence the reason it is so difficult to peel off.
Congratulations, the roof makes it look so big, great job you two!
WOW,WOW! Itâs such an improvement!
For someone that doesnât know what they are doing, you sure are doing a great job!!!đđđ
Great job Laura and Dan and in the wind and rain. That is quite the roofing system. You two have learned so much since you bought the property.
Now there's some genuine smiles, what a job to get that roof up, but it's done and now it's on too making this little home air/water/electric tight, good on you guys, I am so happy for you.
Wow what an amazing job you've done! Thanks for sharing your journey with us. All the best guys.
The new roof really changed the look of the house. Congratulations on a long tedious job Well Done!!!
What a fantastic job on the new roof! The barn transforming into a beautiful home! Awesome job, Laura and Dan! â€
Thatâs so awesome yâall!! What a huge difference in the look of your little house. With the white inside Iâll bet itâs a lot brighter and makes the inside look bigger. Great job!!đđ»đđ»đđ»đđ»đđ»â€ïž
What a Beautiful Job you both did, and we thank Nick for his expertise ! It all looks so beautiful! Hey, how about a carport to put your van and truck under, with the same kind of roof! It will look stunning! So proud of you two! This is so exciting! Love you!
It is so nice to see you complete a huge step forward!
OUTSTANDING work guys! I am very proud of what you have done so far! It looks great! You have your roof, you have your wiring in place, when are you moving in? With Laura's eyes for decorating I can't wait to see how it all looks when you're done! Yeah, there is some pointing left to do but you can do that while you're living in it.
I am not an "I told you so" person, but those gloves could have saved someone a scar! Gloves are cheap and really do help in a LOT of circumstances. Yeah, they don't allow that feel and I do take mine off from time to time, but as a rule they do way more good than bad. My cancer is directly connected to the chemicals and materials I was subjected to while on active duty. Gloves would have gone a LONG way towards stopping that. I was hard headed. I wear gloves now!
I am a Master Gardener and have access to some seeds your farmer may not have. (I expect the larger georgette (Zucchini here) he gave you would have grown some plants for you and may have been his intent.) Cucumbers, squash, zucchini, okra, green beans, peas and some others. If you ever get a hankering for that garden I will GIVE you what you need if I grow it.
Congratulations Dan & Laura on completing the roof, and doing it in the rain too.
You should both be deservedly proud of finishing it on your own.đđ»
Love your property you have purchased.. best of luck with everything you do... đ
Sorry to repeat what another commentor wrote.. please can you seal over the all bolt screw heads on the roof as they have been screwed into the rainwater run-off channels instead of the ridge.
The bolts you purchased with the roof panels were probably correct size.
I love you two! I know the feeling of a big, big accomplishment! You should be proud! The new roof is much more than an upgrade, itâs a whole new chapter in your restoration and youâll find it provides the shelter required for the rest of the restoration. So many of the next projects you will need to complete the barn to be livable. What about the window/door? Whatâs you gonna do with it? Iâm so proud of you, sounds like your parents, to get this enormous job done! Love from Colorado.
What a difference the roof makes certainly getting there now. My heart was in my mouth when you started to slide down Dan. Canât wait till next week now. Good luck and stay safe.Well done both of you.xx
impressive work congratulations
Thank you so much đ
This is you two at your best. (Slightly not confident, but actually getting the job done.)
For sure it was a good idea to get in Nick to advise and help, but that is how you learn.
Great to see the old stone barn with a new and insulated roof - that old corrugated metal roof bugged me from the start.
I know it gets hot in Portugal in summer, but make sure you get enough light in the barn to make it homely and sunny for the colder months.
God bless your little hearts looking good xx
Thanks Cathy đ
Wow, the roof looks awesome. It shows that y'all can do a project when y'all work together. Love the channel and content. I live in eastern North Carolina.
I wouldnât have thought wiring wood to a concrete beam is sufficient to secure in gale force winds.
They screwed the wood into the concrete previously.
CONGRATULATIONS DAN AND LAURA, THE ROOF LOOKS BRILLIANT, YOU'VE WORKED SO HARD AND DONE SO WELL, AND YOU'RE ALMOST THERE. STAY STRONG AND CARRY ON. BEST WISHES FOR THE FUTURE.đ€
Great job! Looks wonderful!
Well done both of you, Iâm full of admiration for the efforts youâre putting into this project.
Well done guys congratulation awesome bit of work đŻđđ
Dan purchase an impact de Walt driver, youâll wish you had bought one years ago.
Well done you two đ it's looking great. You can be proud of what you have achieved đ
With corrugated roofing...the bolts go on the upper ridge..because obviously the channel will fill with water..also..the cap looks as if it will need silliconing. You might not notice water accumulated on the first rain but over time it seeps into cracks and holes. Looks beautiful..never seen prefab style roofing sip pannels theyre cool..
The new roof looks fabulous. It looks great with the overhangâïž I am sure it is easy to lose sight of the progress when you are so close to he work but, my,my, it has been truly great, especially since you are learning as you go. Congratulationsâ€â€
Hey Guys,
What an Amazing transformation this new roof makes to the whole building.. it's fantastic.Well done the whole thing looks Amazing!
Well done folks. That's a really good positive achievement, and some good experience under your belts. It must certainly give you a nice feeling that you can go on and accomplish all of what you want to on your property. Good luck for your future.
I l9ve watching this young couple fix this building up
Fantastic job done well, it is always so satisfying to see a restoration done and then the roof goes upđ
Great job on completing the roof job! We never get to see you using your outdoor kitchen and fire pit. How about some shots of you two enjoying those things. Keep up the good work!
Great accomplishment, congratulations!
Gloves will make your work safer and easier.
You both are an inspiration.

Laura and Daniel the roof looks great, I canât wait to see the inside renovation. Keep up the good work. đ
I love what you do..love the roof! Use the other tin and make you a small porch over your door..The Indie Project did that. Theo and Bee had a house like this one
Well done you two. Your Off Grid Stone HOME is looking wonderful.
I think you will need to cut some branches that are hanging on your lovely new roof wall done â€
Great job guys!! đđđ

Wowsers, the roof looks bloody marvellous đ i bet you're buzzing with that, great work both of you đđ€đ..
Congratulations Laura and Dan! Absolutely fantastic achievement, that thanks to good old Nick, you were able to accomplish together! Would really love to know the specs of the roofing panels you chose, length, thickness, etc... as we're looking at some ourselves. Any tips or suggestions on what to do or not to do when buying/fitting them?
Ah, well done you two, the roof looks really nice, you should be chuffed with yourselves. Sending †& best wishes đ
So glad you had advice and help from Nick, you both work hard and are learning as you go. Hope your visa is coming soon. Have a great weekđ
Congratulations Dan and Laura you have done a great job good luck going forward, your goals are getting nearer with every task completed.
Absolutely brilliant, such a massive difference for you both, going to be fab to see what you do inside.
The roof look amazing guys , congratulations, rain of blessings.
Hi Laura and Dan, great job on the roof. All you need now it some guttering on the back and front, also some down pipes with 50 gallon plastics drums to catch the water. Maybe a filter to filter the water so you can use it inside the house. A porch, the full length of the house, flags under the porch. Then an extension on the back to make a decent sized bedroom, then you can open the doorway at the back to back to access to the bedroom. You could make the bedroom from stone or maybe a wooden one. And you could do with soundproofing the ceiling so you don't hear al the noise from the rain. Take care.
Love from Geoff and Maggy from Yorkshire. X
You have both worked so hard it looks so lovely you should be proud once you have done inside will be a nice cosey home
Fair play to you both, you have to be happy with the result, and what a difference it will make for your future there. It's all starting to come together now đ
Congratulations!!!!! Nice to see the both of you smiling at the end đ€
Looks smashing. Changes the appearance of the house. Well done to you both.
A wonderful achievement. Well done đ†And great that uncle Nick set you on the right path đ
Heartfelt thks to nic for helping this couple god bless
