Nose Massage After Rhinoplasty by Dr. Naderi

  • Rhinoplasty Specialist, Dr. Shervin Naderi discusses and demonstrates a few techniques for nasal massage in order to keep the nose aligned and improve symmetry after a rhinoplasty. These techniques do work in many instances where a good structural rhinoplasty has been done and can be an adjunct to the surgery, but will not work if the proper surgery has not been performed.
    The nose is a hollow, weak, 3D structure and there are no metal plates or screws in place. No welding is done. It is not a solid strong structure. A cast or splint after surgery is only worn for about a week. An occasional and diligent proper massage and manipulation post surgery with the consent of your surgeon can help the healing process by fighting scar tissue contracture and cartilage, or even skin memory.

    Hey doc I had ryno 13 days ago. Surgeon did a good job he's like you and only does noses. Completely different philosophy on home care like taping and stuff. Probably because he doesn't trust his patients to no mess things up. If I lived closer to DC I would have gone to you. Watched all your vids. You are a cool guy and amazing skills. My left nasal bone at the osteotomy sight is trying to float out a bit. This trick has been a life saver for me as I push it back in and it stays for a long time. 3 or 4 times a day is keeping it smooth like the right side. I'm also taping like you showed. Helps a ton thanks

    Hey Doctor, thank you for this. It would be great to see a patient doing this with a cartilage implant as your nose squishes down a lot more than ours can!
    Also, what's the soonest someone can do this safely? As soon as the cast is off?

      please check with your own doctor. We tell some of our patients to start immediately and some we tell to wait 2-4 weeks. It just depends.

    This is a super helpful video! I’m 1 month post op and my doctor told me to do both techniques but didn’t give a lot of instructions. I feel like pressing the bones has made the swelling around the osteotomy bone breaks (bone calluses I’ve heard them called) worse. Is that expected?

    my 8 year old daughter was accidentally hit in the nose by my son and the doc says that her nose is not broken but now even 2 weeks after its much wider at the top of her nose. It seems like the nose bones are wider and she gets darkness around her eyes. I am worried that even though the doc says that the nose is not broken that it is going to stay wider. How can I prevent this. She is such a beautiful girl so I hate to see her cute little nose get messed up!

    • @BestPlasticSurgeons
      @BestPlasticSurgeons  Před 28 dny

      Sorry to hear about that. Either the nose did get a bit wider or it is swollen or it has always been like that but you are now more focused on the shape and noticing pre-existing things about it. In either case as long as the septum is ok it is best to not bring any attention to it so she does not become insecure about it.

    I have an issue where I'm about 8 weeks out of surgery and i feel like my tip is slanted to one side.
    1) Will doing the push-to-one-side-and-hold exercise twice a day be useful at 8 weeks post-op?
    2) Is doing it only twice a day useful? Can you do it more?
    3) Assuming the nose doesn't align itself, what would my options be? A revision? Is there anything else that one can do?

    • @BestPlasticSurgeons
      @BestPlasticSurgeons  Před 2 lety +1

      Hi. You can do the massages more often. More often is better. As long as you do it properly and not create new issues and new asymmetries from improper massage technique. Check with your doctor. If the surgery was done well then the massages can help and should help. But if the surgical technique did not correct the crookedness or created new crookedness then the massages will have limited benefits
