Nose Taping to Reduce Scar Tissue and Swelling After Rhinoplasty

  • Taping of the nose after a rhinoplasty can reduce the space underneath the skin by pushing the skin down onto the new cartilage and bone shape. This will reduce swelling which will then reduce scar tissue after a nosejob. Not every patient needs to tape. Taping of the nose after a nose job is best in patients with thick skin or oily skin or patients with excessive swelling. Taping of the nose helps greatly when partaking in activities that increase swelling such as exercise, flying, being out in the sun or sleeping more flat. All of the above mentioned activities increase swelling and scar tissue thus taping of the nose helps reduce the extra swelling and extra scar tissue that may result from above activities.

Also, badly applied tape is it tape that is not even from top bridge to the tip of the nose? And I also heard from your other video that pinching of the nostril can happen from badly applied tape can you elaborate how would that occur? Should we not put pressure or press on the tape while applying on the tip / around the nostril ? Also my doctor didn't tape it down all the way to the cheek is it the same thing?

I had my rhinoplasty a week ago and today my cast was removed, my nose is swollen as specked but nothing terrible, actually looks pretty good, my doctor usually recommends taping, but he told me he didn’t see the need of taping my nose. Just wondering is that common? Everything I see online shows a must to use tape after removing the cast. Just double checking, I will see my doctor in 2 weeks, he said the swollen will decrease a lot in the first month.

I just had my surgery two days ago and my nose is taped SO high. The tip is like at a 45° angle upward. It's not just supported it's lifted to a freakish shape. My Dr keeps reassuring me it's intentionally done like that and that it is going to come down into perfect shape over the next few weeks after everything is removed but I'm so nervous that it's going to heal in this pig snout position in the meantime. Every video I've watched the tape isn't pulling the tip up to the degree mine is. Should I be worried?

In the first month we don’t recommend daily tape changes. We recommend changing the tape 1-2 times per week max. After the first month taping at night and removing during the day is less risky. The risk is during removal. If the tape “pulls up” on the skin it will cause more swelling and scar tissue. If the surgery was done well then reducing swelling improves tip definition. If the surgeon didn’t create a nice tip then this won’t make a big difference

Hi I'm 1 month post op but persistent in seroma in the upper part of my nose. I have 3x aspiration it keep coming back my doctor said it's not infection he always checks the serum he got to my nose. And given antibiotics to prevent infections. I'm so frustrated because my body can't absorb the seroma normal patient does.
My question is can I use taping to help put pressure on my part of the nose with seroma so it won't come back? Does taping help to prevent seroma? Thanks

What if i have no swelling after 2 weeks post op do i still have to tape?

100% of people have swelling just 2 weeks out. Even 2 months out you will have swelling. But whether you need to tape or not is a discussion you need to have with your own surgeon

Hello Dr, I had a rhinoplasty with grafts a the tip 16 days ago. I have thick oily skin. My surgeon told me to tape my nose but not the tip. My tip is really swollen… Could taping the tip (under it) like you did in the video be helpul or can it cause damage? Thank you very much!

      Hi
We would never tell you to go against your surgeon's wishes. You need to discuss this with your surgeon.

I wasn't told this and it's going on two months since I had rhino and septoplasty and I still have a pig nose. I'm embarrassed to be seen because my nose looks so abnormal.

Taping does not help much with an upturned nose but it helps with swelling. Good news is you are only 2 months out and the tip should drop significantly still. If you were 5 years out then your surgeon had probably shortened your nose too much. Give it another year.

Hi Doctor! Just one clarification… you recommend to tape your nose 24hrs a day /7 days a week for the first 3 months if possible?

    • @BestPlasticSurgeons
      @BestPlasticSurgeons  Před 2 lety +1

Hi. If your own doctor approves it and if your skin tolerates it. You do need breaks to make sure the skin does not get acne.

each doctor has their own approach but the vast majority of plastic surgeons are not rhinoplasty experts. There is a very small handful of surgeons in the world compared to the total number of plastic surgeons and ENTs who are actual #rhinoplastyspecialist

Depends on your lifestyle. Ideally taping 24/7 is best with change of the tape every 3-5 days.
