Patek Philippe Ref. 5270P CHRONOGRAPH. PERPETUAL CALENDAR: A platinum reinterpretation of an emblematic model, featuring a green-lacquered dial with black-gradient rim. Launched in 2011, the Reference 5270 chronograph with perpetual calendar is heir to several generations of a Patek Philippe iconic double complication introduced in 1941 with Reference 1518. The Manu- facture has revisited this timepiece in a model that is both classic and original in style.
The gleaming radiance of platinum - the most precious of metals, yet also the most challenging to work with - accentuates the timeless design of the case with its concave bezel, elegant two-tier lugs and pushers that are satin-finished on the side and polished on the top.
The lacquered green dial with its black-gradient rim evokes the bodywork of some of the finest vintage racing cars. The applied faceted hour markers and faceted dauphine hands in white gold stand out against the background in a highly legible manner. The perpetual calendar displays are harmoniously arranged with a date indicated by hand and a moon phases display at 6 o’clock, as well as a double day/month aperture at 12 o’clock, complemented by two small round apertures for the day/night indication and the leap-year cycle. The central chronograph hand in Pfinodal® is distinguished by its sand- blasted rhodium-plated gray finish, while a shiny black alligator strap with olive stitching adds a classy touch to this Grand Complication.
The CH 29-535 PS Q caliber - the first perpetual calendar chronograph movement entirely developed and produced in-house by Patek Philippe (2011) - is distinguished by its traditional architecture (manually wound, column wheel, toothed-wheel horizontal clutch) combined with six patented chronograph innovations, as well as by its exceptionally slim calendar mechanism (only 1.65 mm for 182 components). The new Reference 5270P-014 replaces Reference 5270P-001 and joins the collection’s two existing versions in yellow and rose gold.
Patek Philippe Ref. 5172G CHRONOGRAPH: A new version of the manually wound Manufacture chronograph in white gold, with rose-gilt opaline dial. The CH 29-535 PS caliber, the first classically built chronograph movement entirely developed and produced in-house by Patek Philippe (2009), has been successively offered in various ladies’ and men’s mod- els. In 2019, the Manufacture presented the 5172G model in a white gold case with three-tier lugs, round guilloched pushers and sapphire crystal “box” glass, paired with a blue dial and strap.
Patek Philippe reinforces the vintage spirit of this model, which is by connoisseurs of fine mechanical watches, by introducing it in a new version with rose-gilt opaline dial.
The readability of the dial by day and night is ensured by applied Arabic numerals and charcoal gray syringe-shaped hour/minute hands with white luminescent coating, complemented by a small seconds hand at 9 o’clock. The chronograph features a central charcoal gray seconds hand and an instantaneous 30-minute counter at 3 o’clock. The tachymeter scale printed in black around the rim allows speeds to be measured in conjunction with the chronograph.
The CH 29-535 PS chronograph caliber is distinguished by its tradi- tional architecture (manually wound, column wheel, toothed-wheel horizontal clutch enhanced by six patented innovations, including optimized tooth profiles, improved adjustment of gear penetration and self-regulating reset hammers). This movement also features several technical features that contribute to the same concern for functionality and performance. Its aesthetics and meticulous finishing are visible through a transparent sapphire crystal case back. The new white gold Reference 5172G-010 is fitted with a shiny chocolate brown alligator leather strap secured by a white gold fold-over clasp. It joins the existing white gold Reference 5172G-001 with blue dial and matching strap. - Jak na to + styl
It's for these marvels we love watches , thank you PP and WA for bringing us this beauty 😍
Love your comment, thanks for sharing!
Phenomenal pieces! Just phenomenal.
What about the new dial colors? Do you like them?
For tradition cultivating company like Patek Philippe these watches are true novelties. In colour, in design, in overall appeal. Big steps forward to modernity. But some things never change: astounding design and finish of the calibres, amazing cases, stunning dials and dazzling beauty of Patek Philippe watches.
Lovely video, Alexander !
Thanks for sharing our passion and your kind feedback!
Excellent review Alexander. 5172 is such a classic yet modern Patek piece….you can never go wrong with either colour dial. The watch case design and finish is pure class, the dial Ted tire and finish unique and the movement finish and look sublime!
As for me, I probably a tad more in favour of Salmon dial. This could can be dressed up or down and is relatively neutral and will go well with any attire, all you need to do is to have more than one strap available to change the “look”.
Love your comment, love your passion… thanks for sharing!
Gorgeous watches Alexander! Thankyou for showing us these. I agree a blue version is needed. The contrast between the white printing and darker green or blue dial is wonderful.
My pleasure!
Just amazing like always Alexander
Thanks for sharing! 🙌🏻
Love the Green dail, beautiful piece
May I ask: Will green remain a desirable dial color or is it just a temporary trend?
Last week I was able to try on the salmon dial chrono. This has to be the perfect watch! It wears a lot smaller than 41mm, the dial looked amazing with my skin tone and the pushers have the best feelings to them - the starter/stoper is crisp and defined and the reset is smooth like butter.
Thanks for sharing! Direct feedback from the community is the best we can get…
The green Dial is stunning
Green and blue are the two new color stars…
Why I love this channel is because it shows hand-on new watches reviews. Not posting some pictures from Google... Great Work👌👌
Thanks 🙏🏻 Believe me I would have wanted to show you guys working watches…. but since so many “watch-journalists” break watches due to mishandling more and more companies tend to only show blocked ones. What a shame though…
Sensationell!
Das kann man so stehen lassen... JA!
The green dial is not for me, but the 5172G is so lovely. Classic, elegant and refined. True Patek.
5172… which dial would you choose?
Fabulous watches Alex, who wouldn’t want to see that fabulous movement through the case back, not I will likely be in the market for one anytime soon.
Anyway I finally got my faulty Longines Spirit Chronograph replaced, perhaps contacting Longines directly helped? Many thanks for kind offer of help earlier regarding this. I do hope my new Longines serves me well. I can’t help but think that it’s a lot of watch for the money, but they do have the might of the Swatch group behind them. I do hope that Longines are repositioning themselves in the market to challenge Tudor etc as you discussed in one of your other postings, especially as Omega now seems to repositioning to compete more with Rolex.
Keep posting your excellent watch reviews.
Thanks for sharing and your kind feedback. I am happy to read this, may your Longines always show you happy seconds, minutes and hours!
Nice pieces
Which one would you choose?
Thank you for showing us anyway Alex. I still prefer the blue 5172G from 2019, but that new 5270P is amazing!
I agree with the blue - my favorite color too. Green is not my color so I can’t say anything about it … the execution is gorgeous… but tastes are different
Thanks for showcasing both watches. The 5172G in salmon dial is very classy and understated. While I like the 5270P, I think the green dial will grab too much attention unless that’s what one is looking for. The 5172G in salmon dial can be worn as an everyday watch.
It is a particular 5270, yes… Even though the green is spectacular I wouldn’t want to wear it that way…
Just wow a pair of absolute beauties I'd give my right arm for the salmon dial
I’d give mine for the blue dial 😉
Sublime
The most challenging thing is to get one, even when you have the money…
@@WatchAdvisor Was Sie nicht sagen! I know about this as well as anybody on this planet, Alexander! :-0 I did get a 5212A from one of Patek's ADs here in England. But the whole experience, the sheer amount I had to spend first on other things.......nun, sagen wir so: ich habe keinerlei Lust, diese wahnsinnige Erfahrung zu wiederholen. (Sie ist aber eine verdammt geile Uhr - trotzdem :-D)
The blue one is pure class
Yep!!! So true!!!
That green is the best green I’ve seen so far. Other greens from other watch makers seem dull and trend orientated. Great video Alex.
I agree, this green stands out…
@@WatchAdvisor Look at the 2022 Breitling Navitimer models.
@@aquetheblues Yes, I know… but I don’t think PP took any inspiration from these watches…
Your channel is so addictive....
That’s good news! 💯 Thanks for sharing! As your “dealer” we will continue to deliver… 🤣👻
That 5172 is stunning
Blue or “salmon” dial?
@@WatchAdvisor Both good, but I lean towards "salmon"
I prefer the blue one. I’m biased I have one ;-)
Congratulations! What a cool chronograph indeed… It may always show you happy seconds, minutes and hours…
Salmon dial 🔥🔥🔥
PP doesn’t call it “Salmon” though…
Great reviews, Alexander! I'm a big fan of the 5172 with the rose dial. Proof that Patek still cares about making beautiful watches - an increasing rarity amongst the new Complications. That said, I think the dial slightly underperforms on screen (eg cp VC Traditionnelle). Nothing against your camerawork, there's something about the Patek's shade and texture that eludes even studio still photography! Unfortunately, not easy to see in the metal either and the devil is in the detail with these pink dials!
James, thanks for sharing! Comparing the PP with the VC would be ideal of course… But where? Not even in Switzerland I would know where to go… 🤷🏼♂️
nice content ! thank you
You are very welcome! Thoughts about the watches?
Two absolute cracking watches.
Yes! Do you like the new dial colors?
These are the most good looking chronohraph watches (sadly expensive )
Expensive, yes… and even if you have the money hard to get…
DEAR ALEXANDER,
GOD BLESS YOU MY FRIEND. I AM VERY PROUD OF YOU AND VERY HAPPY FOR YOU. I HOPE ALL OF YOUR DREAMS COME TRUE. I HOPE YOU HAD THE BEST AND HAPPIEST CHRISTMAS OF YOUR ENTIRE LIFE. THEY ARE BEAUTIFUL. THEY WOULD BE A MIRACLE! WOW! 🙏
SINCERELY PETER
Peter, thank you!
@@WatchAdvisor YOU ARE VERY WELCOME ALEXANDER. I HOPE ALL OF YOUR DREAMS COME TRUE MY FRIEND. I ABSOLUTELY LOVE MR. ESPARZA AND ALL OF MY BEAUTIFUL FRIENDS. 🙏
@Harry Balls Spam
The lugs are hanging off your wrist a bit. Other than that the watches look amazing.
I have no problem with bigger watches than my wrist size „allows“… I would always wear what I like …
@@WatchAdvisor I'm glad to hear, my friend! Take care.
Displaying watch on those granny wrists doesn’t help either.
The blue 5172 G is a watch for the active man aged 30-50, with a clear sportiness.
5172 G pink for a man aged 50 and over. A casual watch for a man who does not necessarily like sports.
I like both, but my choice is 5172G in mate marine blue.
I am 50 + and I would by all means prefer the blue one though...
That’s an over generalization. You can like either the blue or salmon color depending on your preference not your age.
incorrect
One of the dumbest comments I’ve read on CZcams about watches. Ever. I’m well under 50 and by far prefer the rose dial. It’s just color preference. Your interpretation of age association is probably just due to the strap.
To me the green gradient dial is a design flaw. First of all, too many elements with the chrono details and the gradient color. So much so, it distracts from the design. A brand like Patek cannot just add a different dial color to an already existing design - it does not work like that. Secondly, the strap is nicer than the dial with this configuration. Third, who would actually pay (and wait) to get the green one? Probably someone that already has the classic one(s).
Thanks for sharing your thoughts with us!
