    WOW!!! What an amazing selection of Salmon dialed watches you have shown us here.
    It is such a beautiful colour with so many differences in tone available. I feel that it is a colour that matches all skin colours equally well and as you mentioned although the watch may be modern, the dial colour harks back to a vintage era adding a real touch of class. Another brilliant thing about this dial colour is that it is greatly appealing to both sexes. A truly universal colour option that is in vogue once again.
    I don’t like the taste of Salmon but, Salmon dials are most definitely my taste. I don’t have one but, I definitely want one!

    For those who don't know where the pusher in the Habring2 is, you don't use any pusher to start the chronograph. You turn the crown to start it. Its a COS chronograph. What makes Habring2 watches charming are their very open architecture so that they can give affordable high-end complication.

    IDGUY - Love this video. Great perspectives. Glad to see you covered some more affordable examples. At the high end, the A. Lange & Sohne Datograph is a work of art both visually and technically. However, my favorite high end salmon dial is the Patek Philippe 5001P. It is a rectangular watch in platinum with a Reverso like art deco case. The numerals are pure 20's. The power reserve under the 12 and the seconds above the 6 balance the look of the rectangular shape.

      Thank you Blueshirt! I should have addressed the colours in a bit more detail as well (but maybe leaving the images on the screen lets the viewer think more about them) - but that Mont Blanc in particular! What a brilliant move for a brand to try and bring back a classic with a warm colour as well! This was a lot of fun to cover especially since these pieces are hardly ever discussed (probably because there's a stigma about them all being seriously overpriced / unattainable)

    Great video. One little quibble. In the Great Gatsby, Tom Buchanan made fun of Gatsby's suit precisely because it wasn't what someone with class or "Old Money" would wear. Gatsby didn't care. He wore pink because it was Daisy's favorite color. Regardless...I love salmon dial watches.

  • @stueyx
    @stueyx Před 4 lety +2

    I'm a big fan of pink, and certainly my dress shirts that aren't white will only be blue or pink and I wear it casually too. But I'm not that attracted to it as a dial variation, I think because of its association with higher end and exclusivity, which is just marketing as to make a pink/salmon dial is no harder than any other colour and its not like a precious metal or gemstone, valuable in its own right. I'll always consider it a 'look at me!" status flag, which I find a bit vulgar.

    • @ID-Guy
      @ID-Guy  Před 4 lety

      And I guarantee that's why these watches aren't spoken about more often. There's a stigma surrounding them of being "Status" - but think about classic Longines and Omega's (you can still find them today) - Somehow it migrated from being a stylistic choice of its time into an exclusive colour. Kinda weird. Great points, Stu! This should have been expanded upon in the video

What is unanimously known as "good design" could also be seen as a "direction that has been hyped" - but then it deserves merit by how brilliantly executed it was. Very thought provoking. I must confess I have a weakness for Salmon and Panda dials. Something about them intrigues me. To me nothing matches more extravagantly than rose gold and a salmon dial.

      Really love the fact that you can have such a dynamic watch face that could match a shirt perfectly. I feel like the haute collectors deliberately go out and find shirts to match ;)

    Can someone here tell me how they actually bring the salmon color on the dial, is it the metal itself or they coat/paint the dial ?

    Great video dissecting color and it's use. I'd be interested for you to take a look at RGM watches, I want to love them as they are an American brand in classic horology but their dial designs just come off severely dated. IMO

    such a shame that Baltic made those 2 watches limited editions (a trend that really needs to die a very quick death)
    and the Montblanc Pulsograph is the only watch that has almost made do a very irresponsible financial decision (ALMOST!). such a gorgeous piece from the front AND the back

  • @truebluemiata

    Another thought provoking piece. Bravo! Off wrist this color family has nothing to recommend it. Yet on the wrist of a fair skinned person it is transformed. As if the movement lays under the skin and the skin itself is the watch face with hands and markers placed on the skin's surface. All this framed by a watch case with no back. Fanciful yes, but fascinating nevertheless.

      What's the difference between millennial pink color and the nude color? Nude is the term I heard that describes skin color tone as well. It's also similar to salmon color.
