I'm a 60 year old rock and roll guitarist by nature and have no desire to listen to country music. Two measures into the first Tyler Childers song I'd ever heard he had me by the heart. Deep, genuine, not into "star power", just a talented man and his music. Brings tears.

As the mama of two red haired boys with poet’s hearts, watching and listening to Tyler moves me to tears. We often tease all the cousins doing their part to keep red haired boys in the world so seeing another talented red haired Kentuckian on his way, I will keep sharing my playlists with his songs and catch every show I can. And that is why I always tip the young men delivering applicances as they wander the roads of the Bluegrass and especially Fayette County.
Nothing against Tyler or your family, but why would you intentionally breed gingers? They can't even go out in the sun! Horrible affliction. It's like saying you are doing your part to keep AIDS in the world. Why???

Oh Boy Records brought me here tonight. I've been aware of Tyler for a while but hadn't caught up to him until tonight. Yesterday I spent the day listening to John Prine, Johnny, Willie, Waylon, Chris and Merle. Now I can add Tyler to my list of necessary life support for today's insane world. I can feel the real! What a great band too. I trained as a classical violinist so the young fiddler gets a huge thank you also. Thank you all for sharing this wonderful gem.
I can’t say that Tyler saved me or anything like that. But I can say that he and Colter Wall have made me find my love for country music again. They undid all the damage that Sam Hunt and Keith Urban have the past 5 years
Absolutely amazing voice. Keep going the way you go. Keep writing them songs that mean so much to you and to the people who listen. Don't let the music companies change your style or what you write.
oh man true artist. The way he still cries when singing Fallow You To Virgie, about the lovely lady that supported him. I loved the song, And then my mother died recently and this song truelly resonates now. Love this guy since I became aware of him.
Makes me optimistic for the future of real country music and folk music. Childers has successfully combined Hank, Seeger, Guthrie, and Dylan...... I'll bet even ol' Arlo Guthrie would smile..... I love it, our music will live on...... Thank you Tyler.
Them Kentucky Boys bring it! Tyler, Sturgill, Chris Knight and all the others who've been fueling country music forever. I live in WV, but Kentucky is country music.
Kid-Again you’re right, I’m not trying to say you’re wrong. I like Tyler Childers voice better honestly and he is a fantastic songwriter as well. I’ve had shake the frost on repeat for about a week now lol. I just wouldn’t say either is better than the other, they are definitely different and that’s the great thing about music my friend. I can go back and forth between great artists. The thing with Isbell and Childers specifically for me is I never get tired of listening to either one of them. Can literally listen to the same song 3 times in a row and I like it just as much as the first time I heard it, possibly even more. Much love brother.
eric5469 didn’t know about the no pic tour, it is what it is I guess. That is kinda shitty I mean who gives a fuck. You should expect that being Jason Isbell. Privacy thing I guess.
Tyler is better than any of those guys, though Sturgill is cool as well... the others are a waste of my time and only good for modern yuppie types who want to feel authentic but can only be as authentic as their money can buy
I can’t get enough of this guy, also guys, really really feeling Colter Wall, a Canadian guy, go listen NOW if you haven’t already devil wears a suit and tie
I'd like to thank the Ranch 95.9 - Fort Worth, TX for playing Feathered Indians and introducing the sound of Tyler Childers to me. His music is awesome, looking forward to seeing him in Austin, come July.
Tyler Childers and Billy Strings will put chill bumps down my spine. FOLLOW You To VIRGIE almost makes me want to cry. Good music cleans the soul and I love this guy. He clears my mind and heart.
The voilin faught him the entire time. Best youtube version of feathered indians is when he plays alone. He has raw talent and doesnt need a big fancy band to help him tell his story of the hollow.
donovan preston yeah, and to make things worse, the pedal steel and the violin are fighting each other the whole show. Only one fretless instrument onstage at a time generally, and if there’s two, they both have to be properly intonnated and know exactly what they’re doing. I think he was experimenting with his band at this point in his career. Because the pedal steel player is all over the place, ESPECIALLY in Feathered Indians. He made a mistake in the very first chorus and had to put it in there every time to make it look purposeful. Clearly threw him off, because for the rest of the song, he was totally off-put. His current band iteration doesn’t improvise and it’s a lot tighter.
Cici Bradley you’re totally right. I was mistaken on his current band’s iteration. Jesse improvises every single night on the road. He’s become one of my favorite guitar players, honestly. James and Jesse play off each other so well. James has improved on the steel a great deal. I bought a pedal steel not long after making my original comment here. His playing made me finally pull the trigger on one. There’s a fantastic video of TC at Americanafest on CZcams, in case you haven’t seen it. One of the highest quality recordings of a live show I’ve ever seen. And everyone was having an on-night like crazy. Good shit. Can’t wait to catch them on the road this year.
“If I’d known you were religious, then I wouldn’t have came stoned, to a house such an angel, to fucked up to make it back home” This verse gave me chills
My dogs name is LadyMae I almost lost her yesterday and the Vet tech told me about Tyler...I've seen my share of trouble but LadyMae keeps me less lonely. . What a beautiful song ...I'll never stop playing all his song ..what a great artist. .I may even move to Kentuky.....🌻🌲☮ thankyou
I totally agree...much prefer his stuff solo. But having said that, there's a live version of Whitehouse Road on his Y.T. page (with "the food stamps") that's VERY well produced (visually and sound quality). I can't even believe I'm saying this, but I have to admit this particular performance of Whitehouse Road has me giving (it) and (either) of his solo versions equal praise. There's some kinda Allman Brothers magic happening there. The video starts out focusing on Tyler with a soft light shining down on his face and a wild look in his eyes (😉)' and he just absolutely NAILS it! The band sounds great (not at all like the way, way over produced album version), with every instrument clear and clean. The steel guitar in this vid really helps with the Allman Brothers feel. In that video there's a cool yin-yang (?) kinda thing going on, with the band doing solid, upbeat, "feel good" music, but at the same time Tyler's singing from a hard and dark place....it's awesome.
I listen Tyler every night and it brings chills to my life , what a guy , i"m working out and someday would like to play the way he does, Love lyrics and music.

Many songs and artists cause an “emotional response “ when you listen but Tyler is on another level, and seems to do it effortlessly. It must be real. I have listened to ‘Follow you to Virgie’ one time, and that was it. I actually cannot get through that song without breaking down. I have to skip it every time.
Such wonderful God given talent. No matter what he sings it grabs your attention and keeps it until the end. Such a unique songwriter and singer. I love the way he tells a story. He brings you along with him and you can feel his music inside you. It brings tears to my eyes bc of how powerful his lyrics are. Wonderful, heartfelt original music that needs to be heard around the world. Keep it up young man. You got a very bright future ahead of you. Just don’t fuck it up with drugs. Stay as far away as you possibly can from that garbage.
Pines, Cedars. Evergreens, everlasting life, with the Lord. Its why all our cemeteries have the old cedars. This Christmas, go out get you a Christmas tree and celebrate the birth of our Lord Jesus. Tyler Childers is the most talented red-headed step child I've ever heard!
Been listening to Tyler for a few months now. Dude is addictive. Tremendous talent. You can feel his music....
Love listening to Tyler, my favorite is Triune God!
Country music lost me and Tyler found my way back to country music. My people are from Kentucky I was born in Tennessee so it means a lot to have my roots in music in mt life and enjoyed. Thank you Tyler ❤💪💯
I'm a metal head from the 80's. Country was a dirty word until hearing Childers
Two measures into the first Tyler Childers song I'd ever heard he had me by the heart. Deep, genuine, not into "star power", just a talented man and his music. Brings tears.
I owe Anthony Bourdain's WV Parts Unknown for those first strains of Lady May and my GOD i had to know... obsessed with finding out who that was
"I've seen my share of trouble and i've held my weight in shame... but i'm baptized in your name"
My mind was blown and my heart was owned :)
Tyler is incredible. Maybe try a little bit of The Avett Brothers. Out of North Carolina, they are the real deal, too. A little different than Tyler in sound but genuine and heartfelt. Their fan base is amazing, too. Not trying to take any shine from Tyler because I love his heart and his music, just thought I would mention them if you aren't familiar. Namaste
He makes me dance and appreciate life, heart
I wish there were words...there just aren't. Tyler's the best that's ever been and he was saved, as the best, for a desperate time when music and the world needed him most.
Marshal, I couldn't have said it any better. I think he was put right here at the right time. ❤️

Man this is some good shit. I’ve been betrayed by the radio. Thank goodness for CZcams. And here I thought good music was all in the rear view mirror. Going to be a good day.
Yes sir, they don't want to be in a few commercials for the love of money. THEY don't have to be in a few commercials to get the chance of being famous. THEY are not the same as the new generation of music. THEY have a good time and they play the music because they were raised to the music of the real artists.
Thanks
you've just sold a ticket to show you haven't planned yet in a town near me someday. Can't get enough.
I check the website daily for the same reason.
I like that 😉👍
You won't be disappointed! Been blessed 3 times in Louisville to see him and the boys
DJ Smith as an upstate New Yorker, disappointment is something I’m used to.
Uhhh, what?
Brother, your voice and talent is a blessing. You're damned voice gets me emotional and tear me up. Love it. I'd love to hear you live. You're awesome.
He’s a poet, a got damn Eastern Kentucky poet!!
Love everything,so happy to see him recognized my favorite still Universal Sound... there's a lot more to this man than some can realize
Dang just stumbling on some old Tyler and caught with his newest release in the middle of an 8 year old show. AWESOME!
Love Tyler Childers, he's like a breath of pure mountain Spring... we have missed you for all this time, Childers... hope you stick around for a long, long time. Gracias, mi amigo!
Growing up in the Appalachia but living elsewhere now it's hard to explain to someone what it was like. Both good and bad. Now I just tell them to listen to Tyler Childers. He takes this transplanted hillbilly home and makes me miss it every time.
Exactly! My mom's side of the family is a bunch of Ohio hillbillies. Childers' music reminds me of being a kid at those family reunions. People playing bluegrass and clogging. Good times man!
Welcome Home.
how could you not love this guy and his music! So good and talented. He also seems humble and down to earth too.
Can't get over the violinist! Wow..your voice..the band..WELL DONE! LOVIN THIS IN PA. THANK YOU AND GOD BLESS ❤
She's good... but she's playing a completely different style of music and it's oddly out of place on this to me...
We call it a fiddle here in these parts.
@@ParkRoadGuyagreed it’s way out of place. It’s like she ain’t playing the fiddle. It’s like she’s playing violin
@@joshuacooper7074 thanks for making me feel sane. I wondered if it was just me.
Damn good feeling to run these roads
Country boy is a poet. An heir to John Prine.
San Remo - Prine shifts into stream of consciousness to find a clever rhyme. Tyler's writing is less abstract. More focused on a... Oh, hell. I don't know what I'm talking about. I do find Tyler to be a superior talent in the so-called Outlaw niche. But of course he's not part of that bunch, God bless em. He's an original.
@@holyworrier Exactly.
San Remo I first learned of Tyler when he opened for Prine, my absolute idol. I totally understand what John saw in him.
*Townes Van Zandt.... n that's the biggest compliment
I could listen to this every day. This boy is in a class of his own. It's called fuckin' awesome !!!
Agree. Soooooo soothing to the soul ❤🎉
I live in Milton Brother. I see someone pulled over on 64 EVERYDAY on my way home from work between the 1 mile maker and 1/2 mile marker on the way back from Charleston. I am from Ashland Ky BTW...Love your Music Man!!!!!!!!!!!
Man his voice is unique and haunting all at once 💙
He’s my favorite but if u want to hear haunting listen to Colter Wall
An. Amazing spirit
Tyler could play a Saxon or Scots in any theatrical production. Handsome man.
Yasss
Awe i live ur story. ThankQ. Warms my heart❤.
Nothing against Tyler or your family, but why would you intentionally breed gingers? They can't even go out in the sun! Horrible affliction. It's like saying you are doing your part to keep AIDS in the world. Why???
@@MountainGyspy Except Saxons didn't have red hair, and the trait is a recessive trait associated with the relatively isolated groups (i.e. celts) who inhabited northern Europe and who have largely been replaced by, you know, Saxons.
I thought country was dead until I heard Tyler and Sturgill.
I have a couple boys (any and all boys in this country neighborhood) who are stretching their wings (or noses) and these boys are now full fledged adults. I never miss an opportunity to remind them to behave in the same manner as I did when they were 5. The greatest tribute you could have done for Virgie is exactly what you have done! She would be SO proud!! (I know I would be
🎶🎶🌹I actually bought a Sears and Roebuck home in New Smyrna Beach Florida. Through the Disabled American Vets. Best built home, I ever owned. When I removed the Absethos siding, beautiful wood underneath. Every room in that home had several layers of wallpaper on them, including the ceilings. I got really good at removing and drywall!! Memories. Thanks for the memories 🎶🎶🤗😜
Damn dude you can tell in “follow you to virgie” he’s trying to hold back the tears. I cried enough for both of us Ty. Finished with lady may to cheer himself up obviously.
23:25 you can see him wiping his eyes and choking on his words. Follow You to Virgie really did come straight from the heart, and that's why it along with his other music is so beautiful.
deodorantparfait he said on a red barn performance where he performed virgie, it was the first time he made it through the song without crying. Its about his friend Cody from high school's grandmother.
Whiskey Tango Foxtrot I still haven’t it made it through!
@@whiskeytangofoxtrot4523 came to say the same
Why in the world did "Vergie" make me cry.
"I can see her through the pines".
Good God!!
I'm a 50 year old rocker but this is great. I will be going to see this dude live when covid 19 is over
Me to lol
This is just amazing music that comes from the heart. He's great songwriter and has an unique sound matching his voice, great artist. Ruston Kelly is another one, unique sound, fantastic songwriter and singer, also amazing music, great artist.
Oh look, it’s real country music
Oh Boy Records brought me here tonight. I've been aware of Tyler for a while but hadn't caught up to him until tonight. Yesterday I spent the day listening to John Prine, Johnny, Willie, Waylon, Chris and Merle. Now I can add Tyler to my list of necessary life support for today's insane world. I can feel the real! What a great band too. I trained as a classical violinist so the young fiddler gets a huge thank you also. Thank you all for sharing this wonderful gem.
There is hope for modern country music.
This is the best REAL COUNTRY that I have heard in decades.
Makes me optimistic for the future of real country music and folk music. Childers has successfully combined Hank, Seeger, Guthrie, and Dylan...... I'll bet even ol' Arlo Guthrie would smile.....
I love it, our music will live on...... Thank you Tyler.
This is what music should be thanks tyler
Them Kentucky Boys bring it!
Tyler, Sturgill, Chris Knight and all the others who've been fueling country music forever. I live in WV, but Kentucky is country music.
God bless you Tyler Childers. You beautiful creature. The best parts of you will never change. The wild angels love you and protect you for eternity
@Tyler Childers one love, my brother.
@Tyler Childers I watch from everywhere and everything.
Listen to him pour his heart out into follow you to virgie. You could tell he was trying so hard not to break down through it. Such a beautiful song.
My daughter just introduced me to this ,thanks babe
Was a fan after hearing my first song. Sang it to myself all day on the river as I fished. Truly special gift.
My new obsession
I am floored
He will be as big as Ryan Adams, Jason Isbell, Sturgill and Chris Stapelton one day.
Your prediction is coming true.
Kid-Again whaaaaaat? Dude Jason Isbells songwriting is next level.
Just good down home truth in music! The more I listen, the more I LOVE it. Unbelievably awesome poetry!
My favorite artist he sings about real people and real events without sugar coating he’s a voice for the poor blue collar man ! God bless him
my mountains will destroy your little hills. Im from Monatan and the river still runs theough the legends of the fall.
I loved hearing the story behind Tyler writing Whitehouse Road... Just amazing!!!
I haven't heard anything that he hasn't killed singing yet
His music is literally addicting
agree.... im obsessed
Physically addictive i get sick without it lol
I can’t get enough of this guy, also guys, really really feeling Colter Wall, a Canadian guy, go listen NOW if you haven’t already devil wears a suit and tie
I'd like to thank the Ranch 95.9 - Fort Worth, TX for playing Feathered Indians and introducing the sound of Tyler Childers to me. His music is awesome, looking forward to seeing him in Austin, come July.
The fiddle work on Feathered Indians is lovely in this live version.
If the last two songs didn't bring you to tears, you're not human.
@@bobbob24able Same great band and pedal steel now as in this video, only now Professor Jesse Wells is on fiddle. And yeah, they're very tight now.
I feel that he's best when it's just him and a guitar

This verse gave me chills
I just got turned on to this gentleman and I like what I'm hearing and I'm going to keep listening!
Kentucky or West Virginia
Don't have the words to describe how good Tyler is ....I cannot listen enough ......
He’s so much better without a band... they took the spirit right out of White House road
I agree. His talent really shines through when it's just him and his 6 string.
I drift away in this guy's music. It makes me proud of home
I listen Tyler every night and it brings chills to my life , what a guy , i"m working out and someday would like to play the way he does, Love lyrics and music.
Sure like this 👌😏,first song I ever heard him sing was Help me make it through the night !!!!!!!!
🥰🌷💕, love your comments!
Found this via NPR top 50 albums of 2017, so thanks NPR. Been listening to Sturgill for a while so Tyler is great discovery. Lot of sniffling, just hope its a touch of a cold. Keep your powder dry, friends.
Ben Jenkins it’s a damn good feelin to run these roads
He looks super messed up, but still sounds like an angel
Once you know the backstory of the evergreens, you look at them differently. Childers obviously knows the history of the pines! I love the story of follow you to virgie.
