Wild enough to shoot at, natural born heathens, back sliders wine. Lyrical genius. The only artist more country than him is maybe Loretta Lynn. Pure Appalachian.
Tyler Childers is a throat punch to modern country music.
5 finger bitch smack! 😡
and a liver kick
Your right
Haha a liver kick
And we should all buy tickets to "new country" shows, and do exactly that to the "artists", until they agree to stop calling themselves country.
That transition to Honky Tonk Flame is everything. Here for it. All the way.
That transition send you to the moon!!
You
Yasss
You didn't have a choice
That seemless transition from 4 4 to a waltz, absolutely amazing, master of rythm
I come back to this often. Please don’t let it ever leave the internet. ❤
As a natural born heathen, I approve of this song!
Hi Stoney. Welcome. ;)
@@leeroberson1136 as George Carlin might say Joe pesci bless you
Aren’t we all
He needs to release both of these songs together not just honky tonk
Tyler childers is the most slept on musician and lyrical genius of our time…..
Damn near
Sturgil
Him and Cody Jinks
Wrong
one word Agree
You forget how bad today's music is until someone like Tyler slaps you upside the head with the real thing.
Hey i just found tyler jj grey cody jinks and whiskey they are all so awesome love them all
Its actually different genres but whatever. 🍻 any Damn way.

Yes!!
It's the kind of music that makes you love life
As a natural born heathen, i concur with these lyrics.
Beatin' them strings like they're owin' me money.....what a great line
I was going to post something about that line. Geez, what great song writing!
And that's what he does in every song that he pours his soul into! ❤ love that he gets lost in his thoughts while he sing his songs. Still ain't good for nothing, except for everything he does.
All his lyrics are amazing. League of his own. Cant wait to go see him, and live music in general, following this dang ol pandemic
This song is the SHIT
There’s so many🤯 one liners that just flow right in an don’t get fully appreciated
4.8 million views, I've contributed to at least 25,000 myself.
Another 25k here
Same 🤙
I got the rest of the 4 million
less than a year later, this video has gone up almost another 4 million views. I was only half of those.
And i am in line with ya..would love to catch a live show..
My 19 year old son turned me on to this fella. My boy learned from ol'dad what damn good music is !
There's thousands of talented people in the world but very few that can paint a picture with their words and make you feel like you're living in the middle of their songs. Tyler Childers is one of those guys. I love artists that tell great stories in their lyrics.
Strangest thing is me and him share the same last name in real life and it's like he's talking about thoughts I've had I've never told anyone. Just let's me know I'm not alone in this world with the problems I've got
Amen brother
This is my favourite jam to drink by myself with.
Ditto😂
Stop teasing us Postie 🇺🇸... (Consulting Orb)... Tyler, Sturge, Stapleton and others are recording in the Utah desert as we speak, creating breathing magic...vision getting blurry..dear God is that Willie Nelson? It's country music heaven after all!
Un fucking believable performance! I had to play this three times to make sure I wasn’t dreaming! Thank you Tyler! You’re killin us out here with this goodness!
I swear, I've watched this one hundreds of times, just to pull me out of a funk. Fucking bad ass.
believe it buddy.
Beating them strings like they're owing me money and chasing that honky tonk flame....Best line ever..
Tyler Childers prior Covid music will never be truly appreciated
Legend has it he was born in that flannel
haha seriously...both times ive seen him, almost 5 months apart and he was wearing that damn shirt!
Tyler can wear whatever the hell he wants to as long as he keeps writing songs and singing
Jonathan Rodgers haha I’m okay with that too. There’s magic in that shirt
Heard it was his grandmaws?? Love this dude!!
Good one.lol
I been workin on a 30x40 shop, just the inside. Tyler comes on my bluetooth speaker and progress just stops. I drink a couple beers after starting the song over 2 or 3 times. I will never get shit done. But I would rather listen to tyler with a cold one in my hand than a nail gun and a tape measure. That's for sure. 👍🤙🍺
Stephen, I know that feelin all too well. I start hearing some good shit like that and next thing you know I'm crackin'em open. Dammit man! 🤘🎸🍺
Got that problem myself lol
So yer a lazy drunk??? Lol
I hope that commercial radio never effects the raw emotion in his voice. He is a once or twice in a lifetime artist that gives back the promise that good music feeds out souls and heals out hearts. Thank you Tyler
darrell arvin fuck yeah!! Damn right it does!!!
couldn't have said it better myself
You hit the nail on the head my friend
darrell arvin Eastern Kentucky is saving country music from itself ! Stapleton sturgil and wheeler

Appalachian Soul Music at it's finest! No cowboy hat's on beaches and margaritas. Just heart and soul!
That music comes from the soul
All to often to come by. Down here in tampa, it is kiterwlly pop country bullshit 24/7.
I paid for youtube red just to get away from the commercials, the bullshit music, and shitty artist.
Amen bother
I call it "Coal Country" music...
All heat and soul for sure!!!! Got to love it !!!!
I love this dudes intensity and authenticity. One of the greatest artists out there. This is real music folks. No auto-tune here. Just raw talent, grit and soul.
Man that stare when he’s singing the first few words. “I dare ya to doubt the truth coming from my lungs and c(h)ords…” 🔥
Probably hammered, but I agree.
I've seen this comment on another video of his - "He always looks like he's seen his son's killer in the crowd" lol
Appalachia Cobain. I like that one.
Wild enough to shoot at but to high to hit. WHAT A FUCKING LINE
…Too low to try
I think its the "too low to try" that drives the lyric home.
Man...but I can relate🤷♂️
And too low to try
You got that right, woke up at 4:20 this morning Tyler was still playing on my phone and a half a fifth of Ezzra Brooks ,shit I have to go to work
I live in Virginia I'm like what why haven't I seen this brilliant beautiful man until now?. Genius pure genius. 🤩😍😍
Tyler Childers touches my soul...some songs more then others but this man is already a legend to me👍
I'm convinced that the only people giving Tyler's videos the thumbs down are Luke Bryan and Sam Hunt fans. You know, the people that don't know good music.
Bill Goodman they might just have fat fingers hahaha!!
Matthew Crenshaw or poor aim with their mouse.
I can't even argue with them about it anymore. they just assume thats what country music is...
Woohdaphil trying to convince them otherwise is like giving a toddler instructions on how to rebuild a motor on a car.
Waylon,Johnny, George,Merle, their all turning in Their grave over this new state of country
"I was wild enough to shoot at too high to hit" Damn straight
Incredible songwriting and storytelling.
Story of my life
God Damn it! That's sums it up for a lot of us!
Ooooooow weeeee
You ain't writing that unless you lived it,bygod!
Best mountain music I’ve ever heard I’m from the hollers ✌️
First song I heard from Tyler was Rock salt and nails. Been hooked ever since 🤪👍👍
Out on a drunk needs to be on an album
He’s got the Steve Earle soul& speaks pure
It really does!
It's the reason I'm scouring the comments section! My sentiments exactly. I desperately want it added to my Spotify Playlist! How do we reach this talented gent and plead our case?
If he released a album with every song that isn’t on a album it would be his best selling album
@@roynebarnhill258 he should make waylon on my willie the title track. Imagine and number 1 on the country music chart is tyler childers waylon on his willie 😂😂
“To often I reach for things I know that keep me from being all that I can”.
Does that mean he is reaching for a man?
Raymond Hendrix I think he means whiskey/Bourbon is preventing him from being responsible like a man should be
Jacob Tharpe yep, it means all of our crutches that get in the way of being the best we can. For me it’s alcohol, white lines and women lol. I’m sober now though thank the lord.
That line hits hard, addiction is a motherfucker
@@rossarty3253 3 years late but good for you, hope you’re still good, still battling myself
He speaks from my heart. Things hard to admit. And he's got such hard and original licks that are refreshing and new sounding while keeping it traditional country. He walks a line few have ever attempted
Gosh, you kids all are so good with your words. Said like they mean something. Very nice
They will never let him out of the dark people, he puts all these other phonies to shame, dam fine singer, nothing but pure emotion ...love it dude keep it real
His music is like a drug to me. I'm legitimately mentally and physically addicted to it. It's going to become a problem.
Same
I literally listen to only his stuff for over a year. Didn’t want to listen to anything else
I listen to this song every morning on my way to work, full blast, for over 6 months now. Straight addicted. I don't even like County music.
@@haleymanwarring6900
Fucking same. Though there are a few artists I’ve found now that are the same. I literally just went out to Red Rocks in Colorado to see this man play at the end of September. Went all the way from the west coast to do so
I've spent most of my life ignoring Country music. But this man and Sturgill Simpson have changed that
Mark Donlon Sturgills good but he has nothing on Tyler.
Check out Cody Jinks as well, if you have not yet.
nathan murray And Ryan Bingham

Try Chris Stapleton too Mark. You won't regret it
I was born, raised & spent whole life in northeast. My grandfather was born & raised in & around Bristol, TN. His impact on the person I am today can't be overstated. He was one of 10 kids raised on a farm. Never learned to read or write. Served in the Navy in WWII (which is how I came to be here). One of the wisest and most real people I've ever known. So glad I came across Tyler's music. Besides being just generally great and real the way my grandfather was, I immediately heard grandpa's way of speaking, phraseology, mannerisms, etc. It's like I get to kind of hang out & listen to him talk for a while. I can't stop listening. Thanks do much, Mr. Childers. You deserve all the success you get, and no doubt much more. RIP Jome Preston Cox b. ? d. 1989.
Your grandpa sounds like a damn good man
Good lord.. Tyler could sing the phone book and i'd listen. Awesome!
Lmao!! You and me both brother!!!
Awesome comment, thats a good one.👍
To high to hit to low to try... damn i dont know know what id do without this mans music 😊
Tyler, still in rough Buffalo plaid, pickin and givin the crowd the eye, wild hair pulled back. You can still see all the passion. So good.
RIP to the guy looking at his phone the whole time
Joe Rogan brought me to Sturgill Simpson, Sturgill brought me here... and I'm loving this freakin rabbit hole I'm going down
If you haven't already give Jason Isbell a listen.
Colter Wall is good too. And Jesse Stewart
It’s a hell of a rabbit hole brother
Sturgil is good.... Try Cody Jinks
It's turtles all the way down.....
I listened to this music when I visited my mothers town in Mexico sitting in my mothers 100 year old house my grandparents built out of mud I sat and listened to mr Childers music I think in my 35 years of life I found myself in a very good place in my life drinking some cold ones with my family I swear they could not understand the lyrics but I know they felt it in their soul damn beers finished as if we were drinking water in the desert 🌵
Music is raceless. Its just a feeling , a soul that we are all on this rock feeling the same way .
This isn’t a polished Nashville artist. This man has a story to tell.
We’ll that was one lifeless crowd during the performance! I’d been the goofy fella singing along playin an air guitar. Gotta feel the music!!!
“Natural born heathen” 🤘🏽
You really don’t notice how most people do it for the money until you see the passion that Tyler puts into it.
You've created music that both my Son (17yr) and I (41yr) can enjoy together. I love the soul you pour in to what you do.
Thank the good universe for this old soul in a young mans body!!! Ive kicked poor ol Lyle to the curb!!! Please please please dont lose what you carry and share with us all!!
I have twin boys that are 14. I'm 48! I love his music and so do they. I can't wait until we see our first TTC and the food stamps show together! Great stuff Tyler!
I am 51 and my son is 17 Yep we agree ! Thanks to Tyler :)
Jonathan Pierce Most would say my kids (6 & 10) are too young for his lyrics but I beg to damn differ!!! The husband, kids, and I jam all of Tyler’s music together daily 🙌🏼 (expect Whitehouse Road) 😂 I don’t want them knowing anything about “sniffing cocaine” just yet. Give em a couple of years 😜
Ima old soul young body (22) and have a 6 month old , just know he’ll be raised on nothing but the best and hopefully it’ll take a hold on him
This is country, a man with a guitar on a folding chair. His playing and his voice. Yes !
Hell yes, cause who needs anything else?
Yes yes. Soothes the soul, doesn’t it?
Country... truth , w / out a doubt
Absolutely one of the finest country music artists alive today!
B.J. Works you got that right buddy
That transition from one song to the other was so smooth, the few times i listened to this i thought it was all one song
God blessed Tyler Childers. And all of us. Beautiful hillbilly lullabies full of rigid, rugged truth. Powerful and sinfully relatable.
Thank God I’m still here to hear it. Cause there’s things I recall, and things that are hazy… mad love from Tennessee 🧡💪🏼🇺🇸.
How dare you talk at my soul in this manner
😁
Tyler... You may never see this comment... Me and my family have been watching you for a couple years now... Brother, you speak the truth. Jamey Johnson saved my life. I put you right there with the same respect.
This is too good. I think I'm responsible for at least 1 million of the views
I've never heard one person sing so many songs that evoke twice as many emotions.
I'm restoring a '68 Ford. It's not been easy. I was playing Tyler Childers tonight, and things went so well, I'm convinced my car is a fan.
Same for me.anything I do when it comes to rebuildin goes smooth when I listen to him.no doubt

George Jones asked, "Who's gonna fill their shoes?" Tyler Childers is going to be the next Willie Nelson.
Tyler is 1000x better
Tyler's one of the best, but I think he'd punch you in the mouth for saying that.
Ya honestly Willie Nelson is only good in songs with Waylon and stuff like that, he only has one or two good songs
@@travissmith4499 fool.
@Travis Smith, Willie is the foremost storyteller of American music.
Am I the only one that needs a stand alone version of Out on a Drunk?
This is the only version I can find
I went crazy when I finally heard him on the radio. I was so happy
Two of my favorite Tyler songs in one medley. Out On A Drunk breaks my heart every time I hear it. It really needs to be on a record.
Absolutely some of the best country music ever performed! Inspiring doesn't even cut it!
I love the ambiguity in "Too often I reach for things I know keep me from bein' all that I can... like a man.".
Is it "like a man" to be all you can, or is it "like a man" to reach for things that prevent you from doing so?
The obvious answer is "Yes".
Wild enough to shoot at, too high to hit, too low to try...that's poetry.
I love me some "drinkin' songs" and this one is the ultimate. That first couple of lines.....brilliant.
It sure is brilliant
Tyler is one of my favorites. I’m a serious metal head, but I love good music in every form. Tyler, Billy Strings, Marcus King… don’t say there’s no good new music out. You sound foolish. There’s tons! All 3 of those young men and as real as it gets. And are just as talented as anyone to come before them.
Beat them strings like they owe all of us money.
Great line!
22 years old, and still have never come close to finding a women who loves me the way I would love her.
🔥HANDS DOWN THEE BEST ACCOUSTIC SESSION ON CZcams🔥

Hot damn boy I believe you did sell your soul to the devil! I'm 44 and grew up on the old outlaw country artists and for the last 25 plus years I thought country was dead and not coming back. Then this kid comes along holy hell his stuff is so pure and from the heart it can move me to tears
You cannot even attempt to sing along, it ruins the vibe, his songs are like the ocean, you just sit and listen. “Too often I reach for things I know that’ll keep me from being all that I can...”
This has became my new favorite song....I usually listen to it 'bout 10 times a day. I think I'm going on 15-16 right now, but who's countin'.
Do you want an award?
Blake Butler probably deserves one more than you

Cannot tell you how many times I’ve played this and will continue to play this since the first time hearing it. This is a classic!
I love this dudes style.. great song writer! He will be one of the GOATs! 🐐🤘🏼
I think in fact I know it's a privilege to hear this man play and sing, thank you, keep on keepin on and don't listen to the critics, you do you can't wait for the new album when you're ready ❤️
Homeboy cranked out another hit !!! Wake up country radio !!!!!!😠😡😱
Joseph Lewis That’s what I’m saying!!! Tyler’s the real god damn deal people!!!
Corporate radio is dead to me. They don’t have a clue
Joseph Lewis please let country music leave him alone, he’s got this, like Willie and Waylon said kiss my ass. They were very successful. Pure talent, a love stories.
Let's leave the ebonics out of this
Mr. Childers....I dunno if you read the comments here, but thank you for shining your gracious soul. Ive seen and lived more than any should....but Im okay with that....its what men do.....and in this day and age the madness of it all has taught me that the beautiful souls must shine brighter than theyve never done before....and the multitude of tests arent that hard...because theyve become so ridiculous that only a fool (sadly too many) would bite at the end of that bait.
So cut the line
Stay wise and pure....let God sort em out...let yourself not fall....and hold fast to your convictions sir.
Thank you for your soulful ways....they are a solace to little ol me.....grasping to find little slivers of hope in a world where the seeking of those slivers are shards into a good mans heart....
Be pure
That was the gayest shit i have ever heard...u should move to california....dam u gay as hell.
This is my favorite version of Tyler singing this song. 100%.
People don't understand this about how songs can sound so different by one artist. Out on a Drunk isn't on a record but Honky Tonk Flame is way better than the record version imo.
I'm in awe of musicians like Mr. Childers, who can give a live performance solo-- no band, no backup singers-- and sound so pure, not a single off-key note or wrong chord. Definitely no auto-tune going on here! Just sheer talent.
I'm 51 crying because often i reach for the things that keep me from being all that can burning my barn in that honky tonk flame
Music would be a lot better if everyone had to earn their keep like this.
I can't get over how beautiful this is
Country music dont deserve Tyler Childers.
