The Presidential Traverse | NEU8 Challenge | White Mountains | Episode #7

- No better way to spend the Fourth of July then doing the presidential traverse in New Hampshire for the Northeast Ultra 8 challenge! (NEU8) We started at Mount Madison for sunrise where we got the most beautiful cloud inversions that lasted for hours! Mount Adams was number two and was truly a fun scramble to get to the top!
At this point it was our highest mountain we ever climbed. It looked like Mount Washington was right next to us but it took a long time to get there. I swear it seemed like every hour I walked it was still the same distance away LOL. Third mountain of the day was Mount Jefferson. Beautiful but nothing special happened here. It had gorgeous views of Mount Washington. We were all super excited to get to Mount Washington which would be the tallest mountain we have ever climbed. It was really awesome and we were blessed with clear skies, warm temperatures and little bit of wind. We Took a nice long snack break here and then proceeded on down past lake of the clouds to Mount Monroe. Next up Was mount Eisenhower. Mount Eisenhower had one of the biggest Cairns I have ever seen and it was covered with beesđ LOL! The Last 4000 footer of the day would be Mount Jackson which technically isnât included in the Northeast ULTRA 8 requirement but we did it anyway because it was really close and easy and we were already up there on the ridge. One of the highlights of my day was watching Brittany fall in ass crack deep mud on the way to Jackson. It was definitely something that I thought only happened in the Adirondacks. The scramble up to the summit of Jackson was super fun and required you to get on all fours. The views were spectacular but we didnât spend much time here because we were all ready to get back to our cottage so we can have our Fourth of July Barbecue!! It was an amazing weekend in the mountains and an amazing hamburger at home Hahahah. #PresidentialTraverse #MountWashington #MountMadison #MountAdams #MountJefferson #MountPierce #MountJackson #WhiteMountains #NewHampshire #NEU8 #NorthEastUltra8

thankyou for posting this challenging hike of the whites traverse were grateful too see areas we will never get to. one faux pas was saying folks are lazy for using the cog or toll rd. some folks are elderly and others are disabled with amputations and need wheelchairs,so thank GOD your healthy and able to do such things.
You are correct about the faux pas...I was thinking the same thing đđ.
Epic weather for views. I dream of the cloud inversions and cumulus clouds you seem to have on this whole hike. Thanks for the video!
I also dream of weather like this. Very rare and Iâm so glad that it happened
Awesome dude...just wow. Friggin Lunar landscape up there.
John Stevens I know... I was slightly nervous about the predicted weather when we headed up. It was showing clouds and rain but intermittent
It was so beautiful!
Great hike and great video. I am amazed how you can film and hike at the same time. I needed to put all my focus on just my feet. I second your endorsement of the Altra Lone Peak 4.5 Just did the Great Range Traverse and the Presidential Traverse a week apart, and my feet were perfect both times. (I need lots of toe space)
Game changers!
Congrats guys!
Outdoor Wanderer thanks so much! It was a great day
Great video on a spectacular day!!!
Hiking Feeds My Soul thanks so much! It was a spectacular day indeed!
What an incredible day! You lucked out hard with the weather. Awesome video dude! Thanks for sharing!!!
You are not kidding about the incredible day and lucking out with the weather! I heard statistically you have a 25% chance of views on Washington! Plus it was like 50° with 10 mph wind! And that cloud inversion sunrise in the morning. My goodness gracious Iâm a sunrise chaser on a mountain top every other weekend for sunrise and this is my second cloud inversion in two years
Brian_Hikes_All_Day so sweet!
We have lucked out really well with our last two hikes in the whites. We are 20 high peaks in and perfect weather on every one!

Brittany's socks are epic
Hahahah!! You would not believe the amount of attention those socks got her on that hike. Literally every single person we passed the entire day said they love them. It was hilarious now I think sheâs been shopping for socks to theme her hikes! Hahaha thank you for reaching out and thank you for watching!
Lol thanks! They were awesome until I fell in the mud and ruined them đ
One of The best moments of the day was watching her fall in the mud
Great video man! Would you suggest those lower top trail running shoes over the usual mid hiking boot - bulkier and waterproof ? I noticed Jon Z. Is also rocking the low top hiking running shoes...
You never want to use waterproof shoes unless theyâre insulated and your hiking in the winter. Your feet will sweat in the summer and the moisture can not escape and then your feet will sog up and prune and youâll get blisters really easy. You only want breathable shoes so that your feet can air out all day. If you step in water your shoe will dry in what feels like 20 minutes but if you get a waterproof shoes they will stay wet and youâre gonna be sloshing around in puddles in your boots for the entire day.. I absolutely recommend low breathable trail runners. Theyâre super lightweight and give you a good mobility and help your ankles get really strong
Awesome video. What trail head did you start at. Thanks.
You guys are crushing it!
We took the valley way trail up to Madison!
Brian_Hikes_All_Day Thanks Brian. And to bother you again, how about what trail down? Thanks bro.

I wanna do it this year, did you have a car spot. I would go solo.
I did it with a group of five so we parked a car at the end and went to bed early so that we could just drive to the trail head in the morning. Also if you stay at the Rattle River hostel they can shuttle you!
how was this compared to the great range traverse?
I think it made my feet hurt a lot more if I remember correctly. Itâs been along time since I did them both
@@BrianHikesAllDay yeah i figured it would be hard to remember. its all mental at the end of the day ill send it in june. thanks!
Actually thatâs pretty damn true. Theyâre very comparable in terms of mileage and difficulty but I would give difficulty more to the Adirondacks. Every climb in the Adirondacks is a big up in a big down where is the presidential traverse is kind of like more timid up and downs minus Madison and Adams giving you nice little jolts up. I will tell you though some of the other ones are much easier to compare to because theyâre so drastically different. The Mahoosuc traverse was honestly hard as hell and so was the cranberry 50 ultra
Most of what made them really hard for me personally was a lack of hydration from running low or out before the end of the day and being very dehydrated towards the end. Plus hunger etc
Beautiful đ Loved the video. Well done. đȘ Awesome song selection too. Thanks for sharing. Subscribed to follow your adventures #560. We make adventure videos too, don't forget to check us out. I hope our channels grow together. đ
