  • This is a 2009 Maserati Quattroporte S with the 4.7 liter engine and the ZF 6 speed 6HP26 gearbox.
The fifth generation Quattroportes are considered in the United States, and in most of Europe (UK, Germany, France or even Italy) as the epitome of the kind of car that you should not buy.
This luxury italian sedan, rivaling the Mercedes S Class, Audi A8, Porsche Panamera or BMW 7 Series, with its Ferrari sourced F136 V8 engine sending 431 horsepower to the rear wheels was absolutely despised for the DuoSelect gearbox that the early units had. However, most people don't know how reliable these later units can be.
    This video talks about the 5th generation Quattroporte, also called Tipo M139. It was produced in 2003, 2004, 2005, 2006, 2007, 2008, 2009, 2010, 2011 and 2012.

Love Maserati M139 , it’s one of the best Maserati ever built as you get 4 doors Ferrari engine car for pennies compared even cheapest Ferrari California. It’s so enjoyable to drive for every day or sport driving. Plus, it’s a great investing as they still so undervalue. Thanks for video.

I m maserati quattroporte owner with same engine and zf transmission like yours. like u said most underrated car on the road because of older version they realy sucks but from late 2007 to 2012 they got zf transmission 6 speed with engine that goes to Ferrari 460
I own it 6 years and only issue i had is chenging coolant hose on the back of the engine that's it in 6 years.
I love my car gives me goosebumps every time i floor it,still after 6 years.
U didn't mention that is perfect weightet car 51-49 no body roll and that handles well on high speed.
Reliable, good looking, sexy sounding car on the road.

I hav a 2009 QP Executive GT since new. It has been surprisingly reliable for about 46000 miles. Then the regular required maintenance kicked in.
It's really normal repairs n nothing special; timing belt, suspension bushings, front connecting rod bushings, engine variator, cooling system replacements, engine mount replacements, O2 sensor, electric window motor replacements...nothing i haven't done on my Toyotas, Hondas, VW, Volvo, even BMW's.
Problem is comparatively small volume in cars produced (comparing to Toyota, for example) thereby INCREASING owners' cost of repairs due to low economy of scale.
Maserati (Ferrari) did not make MILLIONS of Quattroporte 4.7 but maybe about 20,000 of the M139 from 2007-2013.
Only 20,000 cars with Ferrari sourced engine, suspension, exhaust, cooling system...there are just 20,000 of us shouldering all the costs & NOT the 3-5MILLION Camry, Accord owners all sharing the cost of their repair bills.
I easily spent 1 entire new Camry/Accord in repairs when my Maserati hit 52k thru to now 56k miles. I love my Maserati QP 4.7 & it gives me such pleasure to know it runs perfectly in mechanical Zen n can be driven with such anonymity on the road...until i press the "SPORT" button n hit the throttle. 🎉😮🎉

What was incredible & sad was that Maserati did the same mistake again as with the Biturbo. To make a brilliant car that had to many serious flaws at the start. The later Biturbos are definitely not very unreliable, they are like most cars in terms of reliability. But the bad reputation early Biturbos got make even the later ones cheap. I often hear that late Biturbos are the best classic luxury car you can get for low price.
Then they made the same mistake again with Quattroporte. Both Biturbo & Quattroporte are fantastic cars. It´s a shame they couldn´t deliver the right product from start.

If you are willing to treat this car gently it will reward you greatly. I will definitly keep mine - I love it so much! It is such a pleasure to drive! You also can get a Duo select and than convert to manual stick. Also you can try some selespeed from Alfa Romeo when changing components because basically it's the same maybe the clutch size is different and even that you can search after size and find cheap.

I don't think they're hated on, I just think they're mostly unknown. Think of it this way, they made fewer QP5's during the entire run than Porsche makes 911's in a single year. Also, the early cars had issues (let's face it, duoselect sucked) so that colored many peoples opinions. I have a Sport GT S, and everyone that see's it loves it...and many have no idea what kind of car it is. I love that they're so rare!

I love quattroporte alot, but the duo select transmission was actually electronically controlled manual gearbox, without a torque converter, which means if you drive by using pedal shifters to change gears the clutch will last way longer then using the automatic mode, because of lack of torque converter the clutch was constantly slipping and that caused the wear of the clucht much faster than it would in manual mode. Here in Europe I have seen duo select making way over 100ooo km with first clutch, however in the USA they just don't like manual mode so they use auto. mode more frequently which destroyed the clutch. Now days u can buy a bypasses electronic unit " drive by wire" which updates the old electronic system and makes the auto mode better to drive without destroying the clutch.

The Fifth Generation of Quattroporte is the best sedan ever produced by Italians.
The problem with the “unreliable sh*tbox” myth of the Quattroporte is because people who never owned this cars are speaking about it.
The DuoSelect was a problem of course, but in “Automatica” version (The ZF Gearbox), it’s the best car you can buy in a reasonable price range for those type of automobiles.
    Grazie Ferrari, grazie Maserati.

I hav a 2009 Maserati QP Executive GT. At 53k miles, i replaced the variator even tho it was "not" broken yet bcoz i did not want to be in the middle of nowhere when variator dies.
I replaced with factory RECOMMENDED variator from TEM tec of Napa Valley; dealer did the work.
After replace, my Maserati runs like silk butter! It even gets better gas milage.
I took this opportunity n changed out the entire cooling system; radiator, thermostat, oil reserve, aux fan, etc. i also changed out 3(three) engine mounts, front link connectors with all new bushings as well as full replacements of 4 suspensions n bushings.
      Why stop here?
Replaced the full speaker system with crazy power amp + Bovee 30pin-to-bluetooth converter. Sound system is NOT tuned to be loud but it's superbly clean n never talk over the beautiful exhaust note tuned by Ferrari.
