I own a beautiful Blu Melago 2008 Maserati QP Executive GT. 4.2 Ferrari V8 with an "automatic" tranny. I'm an old motorhead and former race driver back in the day. I sold a Mercedes CL600 to buy this one and I was very surprised with the Maserati reliability. I have to admit, I do have low mileage.
To date, I've had only one problem with the Maserati and that was the driver's door window-regulator that had to be replaced.
April 2021: A new Maserati battery was installed. I had the dealer do it because it is a back-breaking job to do.
Other than that issue, nothing has gone wrong! Meanwhile it's a blast to drive and a real head turner. If you can find a good one, grab it and enjoy. Life is too short to not be driving a Maserati!

Mr.CaliforniaBob may I ask how many miles do you have? I've got 3 BMW's of which one is a 2008 750Li which everyone told me to run away from but I did my research. Excellent car and is going very strong with the proper maintenance. I love BMW but the Quattrporte looks freakin sexy. With those kind of numbers with the horsepower and torque; wow.

@@193322009 2005-present all have Ferrari built engines. 2007+ gets rid of the terrible duo select transmission and gets you the better ZF transmission. 2009+ is best because you get the 4.7L over the 4.2L. Much more torque and little more HP. In 2011+ they fixed the cam actuators/solenoids rattle on startup. The GTS model had standard shocks and couldn’t fail electronically like the Skyhook models. The GTS also give you dual mode exhaust.

I have a 2007 QP with the Duo Select transmission. It was hard to find someone in Salt Lake City who could work on the car (the "specialist" in foreign cars I went to was more of a "generalist" than a specialist), but fortunately when I arrived in south Florida I found a genuine Maserati mechanic who basically had to rebuild the transmission and clutch that the SLC mechanic had screwed up! That job and 30,000 mile service was almost $8,000. Then recently I had an oil change for $300 and last week I had the "sticky" rubber all over the car cleaned for $2,000, also replaced the window regulator and outside mirror switch. Let's face it - This is an EXPENSIVE car to own and service, however I really enjoy the driving experience (read that as a chick magnet) and the performance. I always keep the car garaged and keep every small issue from becoming a larger issue by constantly monitoring every spot, noise or fart in the vehicle! I have other cars but this one, for all the expense it takes to upkeep, is the one I enjoy driving the most. Thank you for an interesting review.

I owned a 2007.5 (with the 6 speed auto) from 2010-2016. The car never had any mechanical issues of any sort besides snapping two window regulator rods (the first time I thought it was a gun shot. Over all extremely reliable for me over the 14-15k miles I had it. Only side notes are the self fixing occasional dash light, quick draining battery (if not on a tender), and the expensive oil changes. Over all absolutely loved the car and do miss it quite a lot.

This is my favorite v8 engine of all time. It goes against the fine Italian grain and uses a crossplane crank, which makes it sound ABSOLUTELY STUNNING, especially revving as high as it can with a large bore relative to the stroke. They also seem to be fantastically reliable, even by American standards. This damn thing sounds like a Spitfire on a strafing dive crossed with a Mustang Rocket edition in the middle of a bone shaking orgasm, and the after sex cigarette is loaded with those little poppy and bangy things. ANYBODY WHO OWNS A QUATTROPORTE IS GUILTY OF HAVING IMPECCABLE TASTE.

I have an 09 QP - S with 39K miles. It's a solid, reliable and fantastic car to own and drive. I read all the forums and warnings about these cars, but they're not always accurate and mostly negative, which is misleading. If you're buying, get a thorough PPI as you would for any car. Don't skimp on service and spend the extra few bucks to have dealer perform the work. Full service on my QP is not more expensive than similar service on AMG Benz or M series BMW. Even after 10 years, it's still a head-turner and a lot of fun to take on weekend trips with the family.

This car is a 4-door Ferrari, assembled with parts from F430, 599 and 612. If you don’t have the money to support a Ferrari, or the appreciation for the marque to make it worthwhile, run away. But, if you’re a Ferrari owner who wants a similar driving experience with room for quests, you won’t be disappointed. The Duo-select gearbox is the same as in the 599. It’s not made for driving-it’s made for racing. Totally bulletproof. BUT, it’s a manual by heart and certainly not appropriate for a sedan. If you can’t or don’t know how to properly drive a F1, you’re screwed. Clutches run $10k installed. I got 60k on my clutch and over 100k on the other parts. Others toast their clutch in 10k miles.

Can have variator issues in cars before 2010 model year. As it's not so clear when the factory addresed this issue, some time in 2009, it's best to buy cars not registered before 2010 without setting aside money to fix the variator issue. That's the only significant known issue with the pre-2010 cars.

But this newer XJ8 2011, is more reliable than the previous model, however it still can have a lot of various mainly electronic and other smaller annoying problems, the engines are overall reliable, only the water pump can often fail on V8 petrol engines, also the naturally aspirated petrol V8 engine can have often coolant leak. This car had a lot of various recalls - because of the various issues, so it's always good to check if these problems were fixed.

No. The automatic from 2008-2012 is the ZF 6HP26 that is completely different from the DuoSelect, available from 2003-2007. I don’t own one, but this is my understanding. Germany’s ZF supplies transmissions for many car makers.

REMUS UMA The F136 block 4.2 and 4.7 are arguably one of the best V8 engines ever made. The same block serves as the basis for the 4.3 and 4.5 V8 in the F430 and 458 Italia, however in a flat-plane format whereas the Maseratis have the traditional cross-plane setup like a Mustang V8 would. It’s actually a well thought out execution turning Ferrari engines into daily driver oriented engines. The F136 is also extremely bulletproof, many 430s and 458s have racked 100k miles, so have various Maseratis, just check forums and you’ll see that the people who actually own these cars have nothing but good things to say about the engine.
