Hey man I’m going to check out a quattroporte tmr, it’s a sport GT 2006 with 18,000 miles, for 18,000$. I have the car fax but minimal knowledge on cars. I’m located in Hawaii. Is there anyway I could contact you?
I own a beautiful Blu Melago 2008 Maserati QP Executive GT. 4.2 Ferrari V8 with an "automatic" tranny. I'm an old motorhead and former race driver back in the day. I sold a Mercedes CL600 to buy this one and I was very surprised with the Maserati reliability. I have to admit, I do have low mileage.
To date, I've had only one problem with the Maserati and that was the driver's door window-regulator that had to be replaced.
April 2021: A new Maserati battery was installed. I had the dealer do it because it is a back-breaking job to do.
Other than that issue, nothing has gone wrong! Meanwhile it's a blast to drive and a real head turner. If you can find a good one, grab it and enjoy. Life is too short to not be driving a Maserati!
Mr.CaliforniaBob may I ask how many miles do you have? I've got 3 BMW's of which one is a 2008 750Li which everyone told me to run away from but I did my research. Excellent car and is going very strong with the proper maintenance. I love BMW but the Quattrporte looks freakin sexy. With those kind of numbers with the horsepower and torque; wow.
Hm, give it till next year bud.
Thanks for sharing I like masserati
Hi CG.. Now that a year has passed, which maintenance/repair items have you had to address on your QP?
aaand????
For a car guy this would one of the best daily drivers, if you are considering getting one just get one with the standard ZF auto gearbox from 2007 onwards and avoid the duo select like the plague.
fantastic car
Is there a specific year you recommend?
@@christiancalderon3821 2021
@@christiancalderon3821 2008 and up. Get the Ferrari engine and the newer "automatic" tranny.
@@193322009 2005-present all have Ferrari built engines. 2007+ gets rid of the terrible duo select transmission and gets you the better ZF transmission. 2009+ is best because you get the 4.7L over the 4.2L. Much more torque and little more HP. In 2011+ they fixed the cam actuators/solenoids rattle on startup. The GTS model had standard shocks and couldn’t fail electronically like the Skyhook models. The GTS also give you dual mode exhaust.
I have a 2007 QP with the Duo Select transmission. It was hard to find someone in Salt Lake City who could work on the car (the "specialist" in foreign cars I went to was more of a "generalist" than a specialist), but fortunately when I arrived in south Florida I found a genuine Maserati mechanic who basically had to rebuild the transmission and clutch that the SLC mechanic had screwed up! That job and 30,000 mile service was almost $8,000. Then recently I had an oil change for $300 and last week I had the "sticky" rubber all over the car cleaned for $2,000, also replaced the window regulator and outside mirror switch. Let's face it - This is an EXPENSIVE car to own and service, however I really enjoy the driving experience (read that as a chick magnet) and the performance. I always keep the car garaged and keep every small issue from becoming a larger issue by constantly monitoring every spot, noise or fart in the vehicle! I have other cars but this one, for all the expense it takes to upkeep, is the one I enjoy driving the most. Thank you for an interesting review.
I cleaned the sticky buttons on my 2006 QP with a mixture of Isopropyl Alcohol and Dawn dish soap. I did it myself over a couple weekends.

Your welcome !!!
I owned a 2007.5 (with the 6 speed auto) from 2010-2016. The car never had any mechanical issues of any sort besides snapping two window regulator rods (the first time I thought it was a gun shot. Over all extremely reliable for me over the 14-15k miles I had it. Only side notes are the self fixing occasional dash light, quick draining battery (if not on a tender), and the expensive oil changes. Over all absolutely loved the car and do miss it quite a lot.
This is my favorite v8 engine of all time. It goes against the fine Italian grain and uses a crossplane crank, which makes it sound ABSOLUTELY STUNNING, especially revving as high as it can with a large bore relative to the stroke. They also seem to be fantastically reliable, even by American standards. This damn thing sounds like a Spitfire on a strafing dive crossed with a Mustang Rocket edition in the middle of a bone shaking orgasm, and the after sex cigarette is loaded with those little poppy and bangy things. ANYBODY WHO OWNS A QUATTROPORTE IS GUILTY OF HAVING IMPECCABLE TASTE.
From NYC. You’re the best!
Example: Cylinder wall plating /certain years mentioned / causing excessive oil consumption and plating falling in causing sounds, problems etc. NO ONE Else I’ve heard on web buying advice, saying that!
I'm looking now. Thank you very much for the info on the reality of owning one. Respect
Thanks for saving me a whole load of money and frustration !
Love these! Hope to own one at some point.
Thanks man very helpful.
Your review is very helpful thanks.
YOU sir are a blessing.
Thank you for the information .
Nice video. Keep up the good work.
I love the design and sound want to buy it cause of that
Most people say it's reliable but no one says how many miles they have. Many drive them like 5k miles per year max and of course with 20-30k on the clock you will have near zero issues. Anyone with 100-150k miles with this Maser?
I just clocked 100k, and selling it now. Terrible terrible gearbox. Fixed it 3x

I have an 09 QP - S with 39K miles. It's a solid, reliable and fantastic car to own and drive. I read all the forums and warnings about these cars, but they're not always accurate and mostly negative, which is misleading. If you're buying, get a thorough PPI as you would for any car. Don't skimp on service and spend the extra few bucks to have dealer perform the work. Full service on my QP is not more expensive than similar service on AMG Benz or M series BMW. Even after 10 years, it's still a head-turner and a lot of fun to take on weekend trips with the family.
My 09 QP S has 66k miles. Runs and drives like a dream.
My 2009 QP Executive GT has 53k miles. I changed out the variator (TEM Tec part replaced by dealer), changed out entire cooling system, 4 suspension bushings, 3(three) engine mounts, replaced 3(three) front speakers w/ 30pin-to-bluetooth adaptor, maintained it obsessively. It drives perfectly & i cannot find anything to replace it. Gorgeous, solid, drives like a dream with my golf clubs n 3 friends to dinner.
This car is very special in that its Maserati's return to profitablility 🏁
That exhaust does scream. Nicely
This car is a 4-door Ferrari, assembled with parts from F430, 599 and 612. If you don’t have the money to support a Ferrari, or the appreciation for the marque to make it worthwhile, run away. But, if you’re a Ferrari owner who wants a similar driving experience with room for quests, you won’t be disappointed. The Duo-select gearbox is the same as in the 599. It’s not made for driving-it’s made for racing. Totally bulletproof. BUT, it’s a manual by heart and certainly not appropriate for a sedan. If you can’t or don’t know how to properly drive a F1, you’re screwed. Clutches run $10k installed. I got 60k on my clutch and over 100k on the other parts. Others toast their clutch in 10k miles.
Erik Di Somma yes....only you and no one else can afford this car or its parts...
@@martonvarga1926 a quatroporte is not for racing. so i cant see the point to equip a 4door sedan with a racing car gearbox, it is dull. maybe a porsche GT3, yes.
Maybe it's 10K to replace the clutch on a mid-engine car, because of an engine out. I can't see it being that expensive on a QP. My service adviser said 3K.
What year n engine you recommend? 4.2 4.7
I agree it is a fantastik car with a Ferrari engine
Love this car, love my Jaguar F Pace SVR also, and I am hoping it's going to be less expensive to run. Maserati seems to be a bit if a money pit. People say Jags are unreliable but I had my last car, an XJ for 20 years with few problems.
Nice job.
Finally someone lists out actual issues instead of going " I PAID 700 FOR A DEALER OIL CHANGE OH MY GOD"
This does seem fairly reliable as long as you up keep the cars maintence. I think its not very forgiving and you may have keep it upkeeped and treat it kindly.
There is always the option of ripping out the old transmission and mating it to something else completely hot rod style.
Do a GranTurismo review!!
gawd is that car ever a beaute. Especially the side profile; perfection in the absolute.
I wish maser had carried over the pininfarina design into the newer models.
Pininfarina is now owned by the chinese (sacrilege !!)
Hi guys, which one is better to own? 2010-2013 model or the 2014 new generation model? I found they depreciate a lot, some 2014 GTS is even around $50000-$60000.
Thanks
The F1 robotized gearbox is fine, you just need to know how to drive it i.e: read the manual. I changed the clutch on mine at 98 000 kms, very reasonable life.
good job bro we need video about British car
thanks, I will do Range Rover used car review in the near future
Do the GranTurismo!!!!!
Please do a MC Stradale. : )
Yoo, it's time to do an used Maserati Grand Turismo buying advice.
Wow! Someone had some balls to order one brand new in that brown(?) colour.
Can have variator issues in cars before 2010 model year. As it's not so clear when the factory addresed this issue, some time in 2009, it's best to buy cars not registered before 2010 without setting aside money to fix the variator issue. That's the only significant known issue with the pre-2010 cars.
I hav a 2009 QP Executive GT. I replaced variator with TEM Tec part replaced by dealer. No cheap but my car is better than new. I love my Maserati n i cannot find anything i want to replace it.
Front mid-engined, Ferrari engine, engineered by Ferrari, designed by Pininfarina, seats 5 & glorious exhaust sound in SPORT mode. Every outing is an occasion, every envious look is a "Thank you, God, for this amazing life" moment, every mile is a blessing that at an obscured blink in time that so many different talents came together to make such an impossible creation for me to own.
Thank you, Big Guy in the Sky.
I wonder where this 15,000 mile clutch story got started. My 2006 DS was put on a diagnostic and the clutch had 40% wear (60% remaining) at 20,000 miles. So, it is a +40,000 mile clutch if you drive it right.
Kevin Smatlak thank you kevin this vid got me worried
My DS -07 Sport GT is in km driven 53k and at ab 60% wear. .. Its more than anything how its driven…
amazing video wow can you make one for jaguar xj8 2011 or newer I had the 2004 and was a nightmare many electronic , suspension problems and I love jaguars I don't know if the new one is good or not
I will do that review but not in the very near future-because there are still other cars on the "waiting list". But this newer XJ8 2011, is more reliable than the previous model, however it still can have a lot of various mainly electronic and other smaller annoying problems, the engines are overall reliable, only the water pump can often fail on V8 petrol engines, also the naturally aspirated petrol V8 engine can have often coolant leak. This car had a lot of various recalls - because of the various issues, so it's always good to check if these problems were fixed.
Next do Quattroporte for 2013-2021
Can an experienced home mechanic change the transmission them selves? There’s a cheap 2006 with a bad transmission. Can I just get a used one from eBay and swap it out myself?
Strut replacement and the installation of a new belt cost $4300.
For QP, the harder u drive, the less problems u will get. :-)
Strange but true. My '09 QP does not like sitting around for too long especially after i replaced variator with TEM Tec replaced by factor dealer.
The only BAD thing about owning a 2009 Maserati QP 4.7 is i cannot find anything to replace it.
Looking at an 07 with 105,000 miles, anything I should look out for?
Just bought a 2010 GTS - it’s a super car…. END OF LINE ;)
I don't understand this legend of bad quality italian car... I have italian cars and i got less problem than my audi or bmw... Italian cars are ferrari, lamborghini, maserati, alfa romeo all are very high quality cars.
Not as unreliable as you think? You got to be kidding. That Duo-Select transmission alone will make you take out a second mortgage to fix the three times it blows on you lol
How many of these do you own please provide vin numbers
You fool..probably never even been in one, talking your bullshit
Do not choose the duo-select. Buy a qp with full history, especially oil changes are important. Apart from this, rest assured this qp model is the first reliable Maserati. Prices from 12.000 € onwards in Europe.

Owned 166 2.5 v6, 2 years ago sold it, still crying
2 short question: 1. Is it possible to change the Duo-select gearbox to a real manual gearbox? Should be possible, but don't know about this.
2. Is it possible to get sport or race clutches for the Duo-select gearbox??
Thanks for answering!!
Legend has it that he is still waiting for an answer.....
Shitty expensive job to do
For that money u can almost get ZF QP used
Gonna cost you alot... is it worth it?
If you Gonna buy this car ...do it as it is... enjoy it as you can...but pay attention for the service History.....
Not so simpl 6:46 e to change between F1duoselect and the ZF automatoc. There were chasis changes to accomodate this. Also they changed from dry sump engine to wet sump on the automation ca models.
.. and an astoundingly high fuel consumption - much higher than comparable cars of that time!
Hey, dobra recenzia. Možem poprosit o review na BMW 7 F01 (2008-2015) ?

i hope you know what the man (germano mosconi) said, if you don't no problems, it fits perfectly anyway🤣🤣
if it has an automatic transmission, do you still need to change the clutch after 60k something km?
No. The automatic from 2008-2012 is the ZF 6HP26 that is completely different from the DuoSelect, available from 2003-2007. I don’t own one, but this is my understanding. Germany’s ZF supplies transmissions for many car makers.

Imagine this car with a proper engine with just under 600hp and a proper DCT transmission and a proper interior. So, basically, the only good thing about the Quattroporte is its looks and the Maserati badge.
REMUS UMA The F136 block 4.2 and 4.7 are arguably one of the best V8 engines ever made. The same block serves as the basis for the 4.3 and 4.5 V8 in the F430 and 458 Italia, however in a flat-plane format whereas the Maseratis have the traditional cross-plane setup like a Mustang V8 would. It’s actually a well thought out execution turning Ferrari engines into daily driver oriented engines. The F136 is also extremely bulletproof, many 430s and 458s have racked 100k miles, so have various Maseratis, just check forums and you’ll see that the people who actually own these cars have nothing but good things to say about the engine.
