Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart Oboe Concerto in C Major, K. 314 Philharmonia Orchestra Esa-Pekka Salonen, conductor Timothy Rundle, oboe November 22, 2017 Ryman Auditorium, Jackland
I'm the other way around. But to be fair, I heard it first as a flute concerto so that may have made me biased toward it that way. (Though I don't think so.)
Nah the flute version is better. Plus, the flute also has the G major concerto, the flute & harp concerto, the Andante for flute and orchestra and the 4 quartets for flute :)
@@bernardofernandes1089 Oboe has the quartet, which, even as a flutist, I'd say is better than most of the flute pieces. But the Clarinet Quintet is the star.

Well I dont think this a orginal oboeconcert by Mozart, this is a fluteconcert. This one come out in print about 1949-50 by Paumgartner. Further proof that all Mozart sounds the same...? Just kidding of course, but he's definetely got lots of stylistic elements, motifs and even full themes that repeat throughout his music.
I love the theme of the Rondeau so much, it's one of my favourite Mozart melodies. So light and elegant, a masterpiece of the Classical aesthetic. But I prefer the flute version.
The music they heard at the concert (which was so rudely covered up) was Mozart’s oboe concerto or 2nd flute concerto. I couldn’t tell which because the solo hadn’t come in yet and the only difference is the key (I don’t have perfect pitch).

This concerto surely becomes more the flute than the piercing, clownesque oboe. When you compare it with the agility of the surrounding strings, the contrast clauds the simple elegance of the themes. It's as though the violins said: listen, squeaky lad, this is the way it's meant to be played.
Mozart originally wrote this for oboe, then transcribed it for flute. It fits the oboe perfectly. The oboe, when played well, is neither piercing nor clownesque, but beautiful. But i guess it's a matter of taste. I find the violin much more piercing (which is why i prefer viola).
This concerto feels... uninspired compared to Mozart's other works. Usually Mozart concertos open with a soaring theme, but this starts off with repeated notes to fit the chord progression, containing very little motion in the beginning. Of course it's still Mozart and it's nice to listen to, but I would guess he wasn't too enthusiastic to write this, as usually I walk away with tunes stuck in my head after listening to his music.
aww, my heart! I love this concerto to death. I love the repeated notes too with the reinforced second beat, and i find the musical development during these absolutely stunning. And the beginning of the oboe solo... i have no words. I'll never forget it. And i don't even play oboe. That eternal high C, fading then soaring again, and beneath it the orchestra develops. I could go on, as does the description. I can't make anyone like it of course, but i'd like to show how lovable this concerto is.
@@SimonPiano42 I'm with you on that. This is probably my favorite of all of Mozart's concertos; it's just so graceful and has so many catchy tunes :) (P.S. I do play oboe and this concerto kind of hurts to listen to 'cause it's literally SOOOO hard and destroys my self-esteem)
Something that irks me about Mozart is his constant use of m3-M3 appoggiaturas. The first movement alone has 13 of them! Seriously, I actually bothered to count them.

This has some figures from the Divertimento in D Major. I love the melodies in this and the tension that comes with the sharps.

03:18 is the nicest part
Not the best choice of a score given the many errors in this one, but nonetheless a very beautiful performance.
The Rondeau theme sounds a little bit like "Welche Wonne, welche Lust" from "Die Entführung aus dem Serail"^^

Why is the oboe solo part written out in the beggining when the soloist does not even in fact play?
That was the habit, to write it out as part of the tutti.
I wouldn't say "habit", as that implies that it wasn't supposed to happen. I would say "practice".
Holy crap I did not know that. #FourYearsOfAMusicMajorForWhat
Barry Mortichesky a habit is a settled or regular tendency or common practice, especially one that is hard to give up.. Check your English.
