I love that the bassoonist played an authoral cadenza for the fermata sign as the 18th century musicians did so. Pretty cool!

Yes it is! Every trill every sixteenth note. The bassoon is a beautiful sounding instrument. So smooth and rich and soothing i love it!

Surely one of my favorite concertos. I love the sound of the bassoon with the orchestra here !

How could anyone write this - let alone back in the day when they had to hand write everything. Unbelievable. And today, we hear it like Mozart heard it in his head. the instruments in Mozart's day didn't even sound this good.

It's not that hard, just takes practice. Hearing the parts in your head, that is.

I play bassoon and am shocked to see how unbelievable bassoonists could be. I will soon be playing Firebird Bassoon 1 Stravinsky. I am far from there level, wow.

@@andrewbroady827 it’s much more difficult then any instrument you’ve just mentioned, mostly due to the fingerings and of course the double reed

there was also thought to be a lost second concerto in G major that would have been written about the same time. He wrote this one after hearing one of Vivaldi's concertos for bassoon when he was in Italy in his late teens.

He actual was reported to have written 5---but this is the only one that survived. Too bad, I would have liked to hear the others.
