For over 50 years I've listened to and studied this work, and played it a number of times, and I believe this is about the most appealing rendition I've ever heard. Helseth's tone color, her flair with phrasing, delightful trills . . . everything sounded warm and effortlessly flowing. Even the quite slow 2nd mov't maintained a sweet and expressive momentum such that I imagine 10,000 trumpeters will both envy and try to emulate it. The cadenza was, in my opinion, a tad long (and yet so musical and well executed!) and that's not really a complaint; the more I listen to her playing, the more I want to hear. Bravissima!
I’m kinda mad that everyone came here and keeps talking about Squid Game. I’m also very happy that people are coming here from Squid Game. I loved Squid Game.
Before 17 September or something : "beautiful piece of music" "such a soothing song" "Allison" After 17 September: "🐙🦑" "11:06 I gonna make this as my alarm!" "who's here from squid game"
As you may have noticed, this concerto contains a lot of chromaticism for the solo trumpet. Haydn wrote this concerto in 1796 for Anton Weidinger after being inspired by Weidinger's valved trumpet, which was the first real successful effort in creating a reliable valved trumpet. However, valved trumpets only became commonplace in the 19th century, and French conservatoires only started using valved trumpets in the 1900s, as it was a common belief that the valved trumpet restricted the richness of sound of the natural trumpet. Composers such as Beethoven and Schubert also wrote selective chromaticism for the trumpet, but they relied on reaching the notes outside the harmonic series by hand-stopping.
I remember this concerto from a Mel-O-Toons cartoon titled the King’s Trumpet that my sister’s and I used to watch. It’s great to finally know the title after all these years!
Before Sep 2021: a piece of classical music obscure to the modern generation On or after Sep 2021: a piece of music recognized the world over for waking up 456 indebted people for 6 games in which death is the most likely outcome
Haydn's trumpet concerto is NOT an obscure piece. It is a standard in the trumpet repertoire and is known by anyone who knows the least bit about classical music. Particularly was popular in Korea during the 70s so is probably more well known to the average person compared to the west
Desde el hondísimo respeto y auténtica admiración a la figura de Haydn , con todo el cariño que puedo concentrar, tengo que decir que el tercer movimiento es tan brillante , lúcido y genial que parece escrito del puño y letra de Mozart.
On the one hand I love that popular media utilises great classic music as it introduces it to younger modern audiences who haven't experienced it before and often overlook it. On the other hand, I hate it as it people can now only think of Squid Game when they hear this, or Fnaf when they hear Carmen.
@@detectivehome3318 My dear boy, that’s because it is a work of his student Mozart that he found interesting and decided to add to his concerto. It was like a reference, at the time he did it. Now everyone will be tendancious to say « Wait it’s a plagiarism ! ».
just a note, amazing piece, however the trumpet part is actually 4 notes higher than written, idk if this was a mistake in this specific writing maybe. maybe just a transposition issue
I'm playing the first movement this year as my solo, but I have no clue what to do for the cadenza and I am scared because my director expects so much...
