    Big fan of Holliger since I was a child. Yes, sound preferences have changed but his phrasing and musicality is just incomparable.

    I am an oboe player myself (and a compatriot of Holliger). There are many comments about Holliger's sound and I'd like to mention that he completed his musical education in Paris. This may have some influence on his way of playing and sound preferences. French oboe players like Pierre Pierlot, Maurice Bourgue or, today, François Leleux have a distinctive sound and technique that is characteristic. Maybe it comes from their instrument or the way they make their reeds. If you compare, German oboe players like Albrecht Mayer or Lothar Koch (from the Berliner Philharmoniker) don't sound the same. And British oboe players are probably closer to what American musicians are used to hear in their orchestras.
    The same differences can be perceived with bassoon, if I take the same family of instruments. Everyone may have a preference and express it, but respect for musicality and expression should prevail in every comment.

      He used very soft Reed to play for comfortable and less stamina. but any how, intonation, expressions and techniques were so perfect. Successful!! Do you agree?. How ever Oboe is very Difficult Investment to play.... What is your opinion..

    I play the Oboe for six years. And now my teacher wants me to play this peace to complete my "education as a student" since I am going to attend university this autumn which means I am no longer a student ;-) Came here to get an impression of what awaits me. I guess, I am very proud he thinks I can manage this piece, but I am sure it will be hard

      If you love the piece and really want to play it, that will give you the motivation you need to do the work to pull it off. Make sure you have reeds that are not too tiring to play. They must be stable, which consists of three things: 1. Sufficiently up in pitch so you are not lipping up, 2. With a tone that doesn't go to wild when you let go with your embouchure, and 3. Not too open, which would require you to exert pressure to hold the opening closed (which is related to #2). This removes any reason to have to hold on tight, so you can relax, open up, and blow. This will help with endurance.

    This is what I was looking for a beautiful concerto. The oboe is most difficult to play since the note is so long for the breath. I respect the player obeys the all the note and memorized nearly 30 minutes of the entire music!

    From Wiki: The Oboe Concerto in C major, Hoboken number (VIIg:C1), commonly attributed to Joseph Haydn, was most likely composed around 1790.[1] However, modern musicologists agree that Haydn did not write the concerto.

      Hi, it's just my opinion. Holliger is a great name. The sound of the oboe has been evolved to a much more deeper and richer tone. Holligers tone in this recording is old fashioned; thin and hard.. Also no dynamics and not warm

    • @Domqrico
      @Domqrico Před 7 lety +12

      doeevennormaalman The sound of the Oboe hasn't evolved, people's preference of the sound of the Oboe has. This is still what an Oboe should sound like, and people are also gradually going back to this sound.
