I could listen to Frida sing all day... ABBA forever.
This is my favorite Abba song if i could say any are my favorite since I love them all. Listen to Thank You for the Music.
FRIDA HAS THE MOST BEAUTIFUL VOICE I COULD LISTEN TO HER ALL DAY 🥰🥰🥰🥰🥰🥰🥰
I sometimes do! 😃 have you watched Frida - The DVD? Almost 4 hours of just Frida talking and singing. 💛
@@chawleyyy oh god is there what is it called I will have to get it 😍😍😍😍😍
@@traceystewart2583 it’s called Frida - The DVD. Very few copies available, you can find them on Amazon sometimes but ££££
Nothing grabs my attention more than an ABBA reaction!
Same here. But now we're waiting for almost one month for a new ABBA reaction. But almost every day there is a reaction to a french artist. It's frustrating...
@@Lisa-M Yeah, he reacts to much to french music. It's not very fun when he does them so repeatedly.
Frida always is fantastic, she has the most beautiful voice ever, and she is classy too
I love how wild Frida takes this, such spirit. In complete contrast to the gently purring 'Andante, Andante' next to it.
A wonderful, shining moment for Frida. A beautiful song, because ABBA can't do anything else. So many times as a kid growing up in the 80s, I would play my parents ABBA collection on vinyl, and the Super Trouper album was my favourite back then.
🍌"Holy bananas! No bad apples!"🍏 ...that's ABBA 😊💖✨👍
The greatest, most talented, prolific group ever...bar none.
Abba were much were better than (even Queen) and led by two beautiful women who could sing just as well as Freddie Mercury - and in a foreign language to boot. They are equal to the Beatles for sure!
@@williamclarke5658. Nah, Abba were better...IMHO.
@@isobar5857 I agree x
Love Frida's voice here...great!
Ohhhhh what a beautiful song.
Only Frida who has the rights to claim that she smiles like Mona Lisa. Yes, she DOES.
but i like agnetha
Still selling 2 millions records every year RESPECT
Anna-Fried's voice is perfect for that song. It sounds just great. Amazing music arrangement...
yes i was so emotional for that song, remind me of our happy past memory with abba
And Frida,s voices outstanding.
One of my favorites. So melancholy, but beautifully sung. One of Frida’s best songs.
Please do Gonna Sing You My Lovesong. Another Frida gem!
Abba's music just heals my soul!
Wow !!! This is other level in music and pop group definitely . Pure gold music .
A pleasure for the ears , mind , soul and spirit to listen this ABBA song .
Very beautiful voices , song , harmonies and melodies . Divine .
How this not exist other pop group .
Yes it's simple but the melody in the refrain is so beautiful so it makes the whole song.
ABBA was outstanding in making a melody addictive.
Nice that you are continuing to review all ABBA Songs...Frida lead vocal on this song...tnx..💖💙💛
#WelcomeBackABBA
Frida soulful and Björns retrospective lyrics suits her fantastic. Benny as usual fantastic composer. Agnetha is backing here.
One of my favorite ABBA songs!!!
One of my favorite songs of all time. The harmonization is great and can you hear the guys voices underneath? Their mixing was amazing, with the guys voices always under the girls’ for the amazing ABBA sound. Thanks for enjoying ABBA so much and for the research you do.The best pop group ever!
One of the most beautiful songs ever
This has always been one of my faves. The longing, the memories, the melancholy, the good memories of a love lost without hating the other person, etc. Hits soooo many feelings.
Dream World!
Magnificent ABBA!!❤❤❤
Magnifique chanson
One of the best ABBA songs ever
Yet another song which should have been a single
It must have been a tough choice to decide the songs to release as singles from the Super Trouper album. Not just the best ABBA album, but one of the best albums of all time, every song in that collection could have been a single.
If you think another ABBA album is better than Super Trouper, well we won't fall out about it, because they never released a duffer! 😁
What made them special was they were more interested celebrating their story than just money and fame.
Although I have always been an Abba fan, when I was a kid I loved their more pop songs. Listening to their more adult songs now that I am older I am discovering how good these songs really are and they still sound fantastic after all these years.
It was ridiculous how they just got better and better
True. This album was incredible. Still my favourite of all time.
refreshing reaction to the unbeatable ABBA
It's such exceptional song-writing but the girls are incredible singers too. Not only their beautiful voices but the clever little touches that keep the song fresh and interesting. They made a habit of slightly changing some part of the chorus in songs to heighten the drama. After the guitar solo, at 6:38, she stretches out the words 'see it all' to set up that finale to the song.
I love ABBA
This has made my day. I haven't even watched the video yet, but knowing you like the song from the thumbnail, makes me happy. Our Last Summer has one of the most beautiful melodies ever written, and Frida's lead vocals, together with Agnetha's harmonies, are to die for.
One of their gems!!!
Love this song! The Super Trouper album is outstanding!
Though did not like "on and on and on"
@@jonathanfurzeland4740 It’s fun in its own way. Catchy..
@@NatSci The Super Trouper album was one of their best but always skipped this song. Andante andante was pure class
Finally "Our Last Summer" waited for months for that reaction. :)
me too
OMG yep me as well!!!!
As years went by I started to lean more on liking Fridas voice, so romantic and soothing! ❤️💯
This song is a great example, how ABBA combine melancholy and euphoria to a higher level.
Yes, they do that.
So right. They were not that happy Mamma Mia group as that musical film suggests. Look behind the hits.
🧡 ABBA !
I danced so many hours to so many ABBA songs in the day. Of course, you're too young to have experienced that great era. If I could take you back there, you'd have a ball.
The group should never have stopped performing. Encouraged to reunite, they felt they could never sound the same again. Their fans didn't agree and encouraged them through the years. ABBA's reuniting was delayed due to the pandemic but five new tracks are due to be released this year. Hallelujah! I cannot wait to relive the golden days again of ABBA on tour. There was no other group like them.
Thanks for this reaction. I'll check it out to see if you've offered any other reactions to ABBA. If not, please do. You seem to know a great deal about them.
Until next time....
For the love of music - Peace.
P.S. I just checked. You are a true ABBA fan. And why not? You have them featured behind you. Now if you'll excuse me, I have some Dereck Reacts to ABBA uploads to get to.
This song was so overlooked on the Album...It still sounds fantastic and one of their best Ballads... I have not found any live outtakes of this song or live performances...
i love that songs our last summer i can't stop playing
I so love this song, always have! ❤️❤️❤️❤️
I've been to Paris in 1976 and 1983. This song just takes me right back there each time I hear it. Thank you ABBA for the memories.
Oh I love this Song!Ilove all Abba Songs!I am a Abba Fan!Thank you Dereck that you has this to react!😍😍😍😍😍😘
One of my favourites... thanks for this.
Frida is my favorite singer, the voice is angelical!
The whole feel of the song, lyrics, music and beautiful vocals invoke so much nostalgia for times gone by. The fan made video also helps set the scene, showing the two young couples in love.
Never heard this before but I love it 🥰
ABBA stay cool to listen👍😊
Time to start visiting their first two albums
I think this song was very overlooked until Mamma Mia as it has a key role for the whole musical.
The structure of this song is fabulous. After the guitar interlude, the way they strip the instrumentation right back (a technique they first used in Mamma Mia) and then that edgy guitar riff setting up the triumphant vocal climax... aah so nice 💛💙
Check out 'My Mama Said'. It's a real hidden gem in their early stuff. Very soulful and funky, and unlike anything else they've done.
"I AM JUST A GIRL" and "DANCE (WHILE THE MUSIC STILL GOES ON)" should be next. 😊
Amo este tema....gracias
Dereck, please react to "I've Been Waiting For You"! Agnetha is on lead, great interpretation. Very beautiful song.
Frida !!!!!
Hi Dereck. There's an Out-of-Phase version of this song here on youtube and in it you can really clearly listen to the amazing, phenomenal, blissful harmonies of the girls especially in the adlib part. Our Last Summer is my favorite song of ABBA and I'm glad you have finally listened and reacted to this song. More power!😊
Makes you think back. Very Nostalgic. Dropped some tears.
Very special song to me and my ex wife, our first holiday together was in Paris, and we did all that stuff, walked along the Seine, Sat by the Eiffell Tower, went to the Notre Dame etc, MAGICAL we still talk about it now !
And now you're working in a bank, a family man, a football fan and your name is Mark
Images from Viggsö, the island in the archipelago where their first hits were made - good times❤🇸🇪 The guitar riff is by Janne Schaeffer, a studio musician at the time who got famous and received international fame thanks to ABBA, still active.
I get my little You Tube notification that Dereck has reacted to something and I take a sneak peek who it is. If it's an Abba one, everything stops!
Ha ha know the feeling 😂
I take a look in his playlists every morning to see, which of them he has updated, so I can see already in the morning, if there is an ABBA-song to come in the early evening. But the last days there were no updates in his playlists though he reacted to some songs. And since three weeks now he hasn't reacted to ABBA. :'-( Guess his french followers are more important for him, because almost every day there is a french artist he reacts to.
@@Lisa-M ah I know the feeling have just been thinking the same thing myself. Seems to have strayed off ABBA for the moment hopefully he can get back on track so much more to get through. Going to be really cheeky here now and credit the ABBA reactions for the amount of Subscribers there is to channel🤣
@@mariaJ3105 At least he has reacted to a solo song of Frida and one of Agnetha, but somehow that's not the same. To say it with the Australians in 1977: WE WANT ABBA, WE WANT ABBA, WE WANT ABBA... xD
@@Lisa-M Another day and no ABBA...😥
How the h💵ll... could I think of this band as just 'schlager-singers'? I studied classical music (and jazz) at that time [8 yrs] ...BUT...
That's why I never took my time with them back then. I'm a Swede, yet (before @Dereck Reacts) never listened _but once,_ etwas when they won the Euro-festival 1974.
My gosh! Now I love everything about these guys. I have to agree with @Paul L about Dereck Reacts, also how I found him in the winter when I was low.
He *every day,* makes my day by reacting as he does. And I believe I do the same listening to him. Lol. 🦧 Just "going bananas..."
Love you all, ABBA friends!
🎼 Thank you for the music. 🎼 🦍
There’s a version on CZcams where the background vocals are enhanced and the “aaaahhhhs” during the guitar solo break is 😍
Dereck *finally* reacts to Our Last Summer, what took you so long?🤣
Our Last Summer & Me And I are my favourites from Super Trouper album.
I love that Frida just sang the simple melody and that she didn't go off on a tangent of ott vocal cause this song actually tells a story & I think that Frida appreciated that she had to stick to the main melody with perfect diction, I think its important that listener reads the lyric sheet also while song is playing to follow the story
I like to think that Fridas love interest in this track was a serious romance, not just a fling & that Frida was genuinely fond and in love with the featured love interest at some stage, cause theres such warmth and special happy memory remembering their last summer together I thought that the Paris landmark references was brilliant done also. I think that Our Last Summer is right up there as one of the best ABBA album tracks. Incredible tune I've always loved it. Our Last Summer features heavily also in Mama Mia movie.
PS oyeah regarding that interlude, I thought that the interlude was just perfect length, any longer and it unquestionably would've outstayed its welcome, ah ....I'd even go as far as to say that a good few seconds could've been shaved off it to be honest , but had it been any longer, I feel that guitar solo would've ruined the tune.
I believe that the song is based on a romance that Bjorn had. He wrote the lyrics of course.
It’s based on a trip Bjorn took to France in the 60’s and a fling he had there. X
Amo esta canción...me recuerda a mi infancia y adolescencia 💕
I still remember hearing that extra little 4-beat guitar lick towards the end of that song, when I bought the album (in 1980), and getting the same surprise that you did
"Our last summer" is a song that has grown for me. It was never one of my favorites, but I'm starting to think it's one of their better songs from this era. Especially the story it tells is great (why it also worked so great to base one of the characters, Harry, in the musical Mamma Mia! on this song).
One "odd bird" I would really liketo hear your opinion of is "Suzy-Hang-Around", the only ABBA song with Benny on lead vocals.
Other reactions I would love is "Summer night city" live on Wembley. And the "Two for the price of one - live 1981" (Abba's last live perfomance).
Thanks for all our great reactions, by the way. I like your honesty and as a big ABBA/Björn&Benny-fan it's very refreshing to hear your opinions about their great songs! Please keep them coming! :-)
/Fredrik
Fantastic.
It'a a wonder song ♡
One of Abba Theatrical Music. Tracks that is the best to listen on a Patio sunbathing and sipping summer wine
Frida's voice is sublime in this one and that guitar solo! You should also do a reaction to ABBA's Undeleted, it is actually a medley of songs that were either scrapped, not finished or early versions of finished songs, it is A LOT of fun! You also get an idea of how they worked on things, trying them out in different styles, this medley also includes JUST LIKE THAT, which ABBA fans have begged to have released... this is all they offered the fans... czcams.com/video/NUfAzxBKvLA/video.html
We fell in love with them ..out of love ..then divorced with them ....gosh I love both couples 💑
Funny how you wanted the guitar interlude to last longer, Benny and Björn found it ‘so good’ that they ultimately reused it, extending it in what would become ‘Anthem’ from their musical Chess. A showstopper! You should definitely check it out
Edit: Just realized that you mentioned it, I wrote my comment before the end of the video
Excellent comment, regardless. A true fan knows this stuff.
Crying. They should have made a vídeo
It's ok to be a little greedy :-) I adore this song, and Frida's vocals are amazing. It's quite a fan favorite, and some of the ABBA members have also mentioned it as a favorite. However, it would be nice if someone put together a better video - not exaactly the most flattering pictures of the fab four!
" TIGER " next please .... cool video as well
Live version would be better
@@bobtrouper nooooo the live version from the Movie is edited. We lost nearly a minute of the track on that edit
To fully appreciate ABBA you'd have had to live through their years
Great song, very often overlooked - so glad you did this one, thanks 🙏
When my wife was alive I payed no attention to the song, but now my Janet has been gone for years now I am moved often in remembering my Janet and her life the kind of woman she has been to me caring, loving and never misunderstanding my needs
Your reaction videos are among the best on CZcams because you actually react and analyze the songs instead of just listening to it and the video is over. By the way, have you missed ABBA's I do, I do, I do, I do?
Fun fact about Our Last Summer at the Wiki page of the Chess musicial:
Some of the songs on the resulting album contained elements of music Andersson and Ulvaeus had previously written for ABBA. For example, the chorus of "I Know Him So Well" was based on the chorus of "I Am An A", a song from their 1977 tour,[9] while the chorus of "Anthem" used the chord structures from the guitar solo from their 1980 ABBA song "Our Last Summer".
If you haven't heard our swedish pride Tommy Körberg sing before you should really take a listen to Anthem (CZcams reaction or not) :
czcams.com/video/DWLlB41GlvU/video.html
Awww I love this song. Beautiful. Have you ever seen the film Mamma Mia? They use this song really well in it :)
Try Tiger. It’s a little weird but it always pops into my head quite often :)
Thank you for the music
Do this one next!! Thanks for the listen and reaction hey :)
Please do a reaction to 'Dream World', 'Nina Pretty Ballerina' and 'What About Livingstone'.
You really have to watch the movie "Mamma Mia" from 2008. It's based on the musical of the same name, I'm sure you've heard of it. This is one of the songs featured, sang by Amanda Seyfried, Pierce Brosnan, Colin Firth and Stellan Skarsgård. 🥰
Gracias y abrazo🎉🤗🎉🤗🎉🤗
The lyrics are so so good. Again venturing more into musical with a narrative throughout the song.
Dereck, you have to react to Frida singing I Wonder (the live version)!
Back then I was desperately hoping it would be the last single release off the album but for whatever reason they only did two proper single releases from Super Trouper. It might have something to do with them not wanting to do much promo in 1981 after Benny a Frida separated bitterly early that year shortly after the album had been released. They only did the Dick Cavett special with some rare splendid live performances on tv in April 1981.. If it wasn’t for their private issues I am sure this one and Lay All Your Love On Me would have been properly promoted with video as a single (LAYLOM had at least been released as a 12“ only after it hit the clubs in the US but no promo at all). If it wasn’t for the arrangement and rock interlude it would be just a surgery sentimental pop song, but the contrast shifts the song up to pure pop perfection. No wonder it’s one of the few album tracks that made into the Musical Mamma Mia.
Flashback central - a good thing! One of ABBA's "tricks" - writing happy songs but in a minor key. "Voulez Vous"?
Anything that Anni-Frid sings has an ethereal quality to it because she has a fuller and more sensual voice than Agnetha. I think that ABBA is becoming more appreciated as time passes because of the meaning in all their lyrics and the complex arrangements which you rarely hear these days.
With your talking about musicians carrying around a phrase in their mind until they find a place to use it, please take a watch of this upload from Rick Beato with him talking to a great session guitarist Tim Pierce czcams.com/video/ubGOWfLFniw/video.html
Try summer night city live at Wembley or Hole in your soul also live at Wembley
3:25 One of best part is Benny's synth/keyboard riff. Typical SuperTrouper-record style song; Frida lead, Agnetha dominates in chorus, Benny's GX-1 synthesizer heard like in 'Me and I' 'Andante Andante' and in' Lay all Your..' with exception Agnetha and F change places.
I always loved that part! So pretty. Typical Benny touch.
You still have to listen to That´s Me, Tiger , When I Kiss The Teacher , My Love My Life, Dum Dum Diddle , Thank You For The Music ,
My favorite ABBA song along with "One of Us"
