    Hi all welcome back to another video Dereck Reacts back at it again! This time around we take a look at another ABBA reaction this time around with a PATREON requested "Should I Laugh or Cry." Frida leads the pack with vocals as they shine on this very nice tempo track. See why I really love this one alot!

    I loooove this song. I looooove Frida's vocals. I looooove the experimental sound. Shortly before ABBA stopped they definitely seemed to be at a creative high. I can't even imagine what they could have done throughout the 80's if they hadn't disbanded. I used to listen to this B-side over and over, when I was a kid. Thanks for reminding me of it by reacting to it in such an enthusiastic and interesting way.

    This song should definitely have been on the original 'The Visitors' album. I wouldn't have replaced 'Two For The Price Of One' but added this to make ten songs. Would have lifted it from great to superlative. Where 'When All Is Said And Done' looked at a break up from a more optimistic view, this one is such a bitter look at a crumbling relationship. In the light of the Benny-Frida split, these words were written by his best friend and for her to sing.

    I feel that Bjorn was inspired to write these lyrics by observing the relationship between Frida and Benny after their divorce in March 1981.
    Even though Benny was his friend, as a writer he could still be objective, and Frida interpreted that perfectly.

    One of my favourite Abba songs without doubt. A very dark Abba song, indeed. Great song. Great lyrics, with some mature ideas. "Strange how
    Dangerously indifferent I have grown, Cold as a stone. No more pain where there was pain before." The opposite of love isn't hate - it's indifference. This was such a revalation to me. Fantastic singing. Thanks Dereck.

    Thank you for the reaction. I love this song. The lyrics are awesome. They really paint a picture about a couple in trouble. Frida has one of the best two singing voices in the world, the other one is Agnetha, of course. Her sound is darker and stronger compared to Agnetha`s lighter, brighter sound. Together those two are pure magic. Please react to Head over heals (MV) and I`m a marionette. Stay safe.

    It's a great song, brimming with the bitterness, sadness and resignation so common in a dying relationship. Many believe it's from the standpoint of a victim in an abusive, narcissistic partnership. Frida conveys all these feelings superbly. She used a similar vocal delivery on her solo hit 'I Know There's Something Going On' which was recorded soon afterwards. It's sad that the song was not included on the original 'Visitors' album. That has been a bone of contention amongst ABBA fans for decades, many of whom felt it was much more deserving of inclusion than Bjorn's ditty 'Two For The Price of One'. Me, I think both tracks should have been included for variety. Fortunately, it has been included as a bonus track on every reissue of 'The Visitors' and many now see it as an integral fixture on that dark, moody, but classic album.

    What I have to say is that I love both Anni-Frid & Agnetha because both have their own voice range and style but since I met ABBA in 1976 (I lived in Cuba by then) I always preferred Frida. But her excellent singer's quality was always shadowed by media giving more relevance to Agnetha who is also A+ singer (both A & A are at the same level). In this song Frida shines like in all songs where she is the leadvocal. Listen to "Our Last Summer", "When All Is Said And Done", "Andante Andante" in which she holds the final note for 15 seconds just to mention a few.
    ¡Viva Frida! (and B, B, A too, of course)

      I love this song as well, but I must respectfully disagree. Two For the Price of One is lyrically silly - basically a song-length joke with a corny punchline - but it's musically brilliant. This one should have just been shoehorned in somewhere and made The Visitors a little longer.

    This was the B side of the vinyl single ONE OF US. Curiously, ABBA member Frida in her solo career had had a song with almost the same title or meaning about 9 years previously, namely, ''Ska Man Skratta Eller Grata'' (should one laugh or cry).

    indeed just released in 1981 as the B-Side to One Of Us in Europe. They did this several times with the pre-released first single releases of an album... I Wonder (Live), Lovelight, Elaine and this one. And yes, this song is so underrated and it's a mystery why this hadn't been included instead of Two For The Price Of One.... i guess they know it was a mistake. The song is so unique... though i would love to hear a more organic arrangement instead of that very electronic one... but that's a matter of taste.. I love Frida's voice from desilllusioned flat to angelic and back.... she was way more experimental than Agnetha..

      @Marvin Morawski i am not sure about it. Same goes for When All Is Said And Done... I would love to hear a more organic version to compare. I am really curious. Maybe afterwards I like the original one better.

    Hi Dereck! I am thrilled you're doing these ABBA Reactions. Thank you for the ones you've done & the ones you will be doing. One great way of looking at ABBA's "B" sides is that they didn't throw a disposable track on the backside of a hit single. They threw a great bonus track on there for us to enjoy! You even got your money's worth when you bought the singles. Another "B" side to check out is "Cassandra". It's very theatrical & a great spotlight on Frida's vocal abilities. Keep up the great work & have a great 2021!!! - Bill (From Mount Holly, N.J.)

    (I know, I'm a pro-musician - pianist.)
    I've seen many ABBA'S [and some other, too] on my tv - where it's impossible to give you thumbs up - or follow you.
    Really happy I found this channel! *Thousands of Thumbs UP!* 🎶🎼🎵
    By the way - you've opened my ears to ABBA! Most songs I've never heard.
    And I'm a Swede... lol

    I recently found the One of us 45 and bought it for Should I laugh or cry.. Another B side that could have been squeezed onto the album was Cassandra. Again, great vocals by Frida and classic harmonies coming in on the chorus. Also dark and emotional.

    Love this song. It should have been included on the Visitors album.
    Regarding the girls’ voices. I think Frida is the stronger singer and her range is incredible. But I prefer the tone to Agnetha’s voice. The blend, or the “third” voice, is absolute magic and cannot ever be replicated!

    • @resireg
      @resireg Před 3 lety +2

      The third voice is Bjorn

    • @grantc61
      @grantc61 Před 3 lety +4

      Yup. The blend of the two voices and the range from mezzo to soprano is indeed a magic sound. Frida had a beautiful and flexible instrument but Agnetha really had the magic, creamy soprano - a voice in a million. Together, they sound like no one else.
      I can't wait to hear their new recordings - what will they sound like now both of their voices have dropped with age?

    • @nielsulriksrensen9818
      @nielsulriksrensen9818 Před 3 lety +7

      We can all agree that the cobination of their voices is where the true magic of ABBA lies. Whether Anni-Frid or Agnetha is the better singer has been discussed since the 70s and will be discussed to the end of time. From my perspective, Anni-Frid is a much more accomplished and interesting singer than Agnetha, oh no, there we go again :-)

    • @markcreek487

      @@resireg When Frida and Agnetha sing together at the sam time it is referred to as the "third voice"

    • @resireg
      @resireg Před 3 lety +3

      @@markcreek487 I could understand that. But in songs like "Angel Eyes", "Love isn't easy" or "The way old friends do" are moments where clearly we have Bjorn, Agnetha and Frida Harmonizing together.
