Hi all welcome back to another video Dereck Reacts back at it again! This time around we take a look at ABBA with Angel Eyes, a PATREON request. ABBA gets a little experimental with sounds and entices the listener this time around with interesting lyrics and catchy "AHH's and keep thinking." See my full reaction now!

I almost fell off my chair when you said you weren't hearing any catchy parts. And you'd literally just come out of the first chorus. Say what?? That chorus has hooks left, right and centre. This is one of their absolute best. Those vocal harmonies in the chorus are exquisite and the melody is just stunning.
I agree. The boy is mad.
@@geofffield6655 It’s usually a copyright thing. I’m sure they have to stop every 30 seconds or so to avoid it getting blocked.
@Marvin Morawski Personally, it's their most catchy song. I love their first verse.
Sounds like a least 2 extra vocals each this one. It's masterfully done. Being no computers to twink a sound or ease of putting it together. They actually had to sing the parts unlike today.
I agree, Paul. This song is sooooooooooooo catchy from start to end. A glorious production of music and singing. It fell from heaven. Euphoric.
ABBA is best when the song has the 3rd voice, the combination of Frida and Agnetha. This is a clear 3rd voice song and it is magic. I love the melody, especially the chorus. Magnificent song.
Bjorn is the 3rd voice.
@@resireg Not really
Björn is indeed the third voice on this one. He sings all the way through...
@@visitor1982 you are not understanding what i am saying.
Björn and Benny are there too. Signature ABBA music. Watch Waterloo Live Eurovision and you will realize that most of their notable sound is because of the boys harmonies too.
There’s that one line that ALWAYS gets me…
“Sometimes when I’m lonely, I sit and think about him, and it hurts to remember all the good times, when I thought I couldn’t live without him”
Everyone’s been there.
Anybody that has gone out with a narcissist can relate to the lyrics, especially if you were totally blindsided when they dumped you. Very relatable for many people. My favorite line is, “Sometimes when I’m lonely, I sit and think about him.” I’ve never been one to lament failed relationships but I can still relate to this.
The melody isn't catchy? It is one of the sweetest melody ABBA ever did! Every song, which is a bit different from Dancing Queen, Dereck describes this as "experimental". The entire ABBA-catalogue and the group's developement throughout their 10 years is an experiment, so to say.
Exactly. Hell the still ignored "Waterloo" albums and follow-up are very experimental. The blends are amazing and it really works. People are odd and just expect a 'Dancing Queen' sound all the time, but that is not just them, they cover all sorts of things!
This song grows on you. The octave harmonies in the verses and then the magic ABBA sound of the chorus. There are lots of harmonies going on there. If you listen carefully in the final chorus as they sing "...you're in paridise" you can hear Agnetha singing a high pitched "yeaahhhhh" When I hear that it's kind of haunting, like I'm 10 years old hearing the song for the first time.
I'd agree. Maybe if you let it, the music grows massively in you.
I always heard that too, but it's so subtle.
I always find ABBA songs never boring
I just love watching you fall farther and farther in love with ABBA!!! I've loved them since 1976 and took a lot of abuse for my love of them, because they weren't 'cool'. But I always knew they were the best. I can't tell you how much I enjoy you young kids discovering their magic and power!! Welcome to the ABBA obsession!!!
I can totally relate.
Other gem and masterpieces of ABBA .
They were definitely genious in the world pop music . Immortal and very beautiful music .
The ABBA group make only very good music ever , and for all times .
its pure magic watching your reactions, 40 odd years after, they still got it :-)
Sure they got it
"Somewhat danceable"??? This guy was not there...! He has no idea how this song filled the dancefloors...
I DON'T understand how you can say there's "no catchy" parts of the song!! It's one of their best! Also, this is not something outside of what you'd hear from them. What?
So glad you reacted to Angeleyes - one of my favourites. I love their vocals in this and the harmonies. At times it seems like you can hear 5 or 6 voices.
Yes many voices indeed!
@@DereckReacts I've never heard of this song until it was in Mamma Mia 2
Love you. Love your reactions. But how on earth can you possibly say that this utter gem isn’t catchy? 😱The chorus just soars ❤️
Absolutely!
Exactly, the song is extremely contagious. I can’t take him seriously lol
Yes. .Derek ...how ?
Finally! Angel Eyes is my favorite from Voulez Vous. It's actually a pretty sad song and the melody reflects that even though it's upbeat. It's funny that you think it's not as catchy, because I think it's one of their most melodic songs, with a beautiful, melancholy melody. That chorus just kills me -- for me it's very memorable.
I still prefer Lovelight
so true!
He will take your heart and you be hypnotized....did you hear how that sounds m💕💕💕💕💕
The music is so upbeat but the lyrics are really so sad. Amazing harmonies.
I love these reactions , there so surprised,, ABBA was amazing..
I'm 58, I remember this song really good.. loved this group..
They don't make songs like this anymore
A hidden ABBA gem that I always liked.
My Love My Life. Agnetha gives a stunning performance. My favourite, along with The Winner Takes It All.
I adore Angeleyes. It seems so simple but the production is very complex. There are so many musical elements swirling around in the mix. The harmonies in the chorus are to die for, particularly Frida's lower harmony. Then the song goes in a slightly different direction at the end which makes it even better. You feel that the song's protagonist cannot gets this bad person out of her head, which makes it very poignant. I also want to single out Benny's almost classical synths as they are glorious throughout. Angeleyes is one of my absolute favourites.
It seems to be the case that most early ABBA fans rate this track highly. This was the track I liked best when the album came out, followed by As good as new and kisses of fire.
What nobody notices is that we have 3 voices. I can hear Bjorn's backing vocals besides Agetha and Frida's
@@resireg I always thought it was Frida doing a very low vocal ! But maybe Bjorn was singing more on the records, seeing that Benny and him were inspired a lot by The Bee Gees at this time.
Agree with ALL you say!
@@kyachdistent1301 Thank You.
Thank you, I’ve been waiting for someone to do this one as it’s my favorite!
You said “Agnetha!” Yaaaaaayyyyy!!!! 💥💥💥💥💥💥💥💥💥💥💥💥💥
My love my life is a brilliant track from ABBA
My all time favourite Abba song.
Hey Derek, love your ABBA reactions .. your excitement and understanding of their music makes me so nostalgic, but you express exactly how all ABBA fans felt the first time hearing their next pop masterpiece... so many times I’ve read in comments that “ABBA provided a sound track to a life” and indeed same is says for me, I was a teenager when ABBA were at the height of their vocal, musical and lyrical powers.. the perfect blend of Frida and Agnetha voices, created their unique sound, Frida a mezzo soprano and Agnetha a soprano, while technically Frida’s voice was warmer/better, it’s was Agnetha’s ability to totally immerse in the lyric and express it and she could sing at the top of her range to B2 without taking a breath.. Frida was superb vocally too and could easily equally match her, moving seamlessly and expertly from chest (lower register) to head (higher register) but their signature sound was achieved by both singing at the top of their range and how they did and could sustain it was just to us ABBA fans pure magical .. they is so many examples in their songs of their amazing vocal blend, range and expertise.. they were true masters of their craft!! ❤️
Don’t worry Derek, I get you.I think you mean that the A-ha’s are the catchy part. We know you’re a fan.
😂 Derek is the best 😎
At last! I am so happy, I was getting very anxious since I kind of felt this was coming this week, and I was right! Thank you so much Dereck for always bringing happiness with your great reactions!
Smgs 1960 Which ABBA song do you feel is coming next? Maybe ‚Move on‘? That would be awesome 😉
I think all of us are agog that you didn’t hear anything ‘catchy’. Say what? 😳🤨
How i love this channel. thanks Dereck
I love this one - please do ‘my love, my life’ I just adore your reactions, you always cheer up my day 😘
I love the backing harmonies in the 2nd part of chorus.. (you’ll think you’re in paradise) it sounds so angelic 7:05 - 7:07
Yeah me to fell off my chair when he didn´t hear the catchy ,,,,ANGELEAYS YOU THINK YOURÈ IN PARADIS,,,,,,hahaha,,,,,,LOVE FROM SWEDEN❤❤❤
Amazing , very nice !!!
This is pure beauty in pop music forever .
ABBA the very best forever .
Simply this is a magnificent , brilliant and extraordinary pop group until today true absolutely .
ABBA's the most beautiful and wonderful pop music of all times in the world , and the betters voices ever .
I like this channel . Thank you Dereck .
Pure power pop perfection.....
I love the scream/high note Agnetha hit on this track
And she hits it super high in hole in your soul.
My fav Abba song
41 years after the release of this song people still discover ABBA. I wonder if in 41 years people still listen to todays music. Please please please Dereck listen to Frida's jazzy years before Abba.
And her 90's Djupa Andetag masterpiece!
The Voulez-Vous album was a must-have to us 14 year-olds in 1979. That and ELO's Discovery, Supertramp's Breakfast In America, Donna Summer's Bad Girls, and the Bee Gees' Spirits Having Flown.
I met the guy this song is about.
I can hear the guys vocals in this song too. Probably, one of the few songs where the 4 members of ABBA sing from start to finish. You should check out their song "Dance (While the music still goes on)". Another wonderful hidden music masterpiece from ABBA.
I agree
Love the ending where you think the song will just fade into a happy smiley conclusion but then suddenley switches back into the minor key and ends on that. Absolutely brilliant.
Love this, was on the 'Voulez-vous' album too
Este o melodie fantastica din 72 ascult Abba si in prezent si cat voi mai trai
Best pop group ever.even today.no one can ever match what abba done.remember we are talking about early 70s and early 80s .abba forever

Why Did It Have To Be Me(Live 1977)

Thank You For The Music
Please do andante andante!
Best abba song by far. The harmonies on the backing vocals during the chorus gives me goosebumps.
Really happy you gave it a stamp of approval, Dereck. This song has grown on me over the years and now it's my absolute Abba favourite song.
THANK YOU Derek for finally pronouncing Agnethas name correctly! You are the best! Love alwas from Sweden 🇸🇪 😍
one of the most listened abba songs on Spotify and you say what?
Unusual, but beautiful song from ABBA, including sections that are reminiscent of the Motown stomp "...walk right up to her and say..." 💗
One of my faves from that album. I was hooked from the start when I first heard it so many years ago. I like how these Swedish bands (ABBA and another fave, Roxette) juxtaposing a upbeat song with sad lyrics. And the second set of a-ha-has is the best as you can hear Agnetha going all soprano on our asses! And Julie Walter captured that part perfectly with her expression in the Mamma Mia sequel 🤣
I think this has a catchy melody. It was also my first listening and it stucks in my head. Most songs of today don't..
Me too. I just dont get it when he said it's not catchy? Like where?
Habe schon sehnsüchtig darauf gewartet, was Dereck sich als nächsten Track von ABBA aussucht!!
Freue mich immer auf seine Gestik und Mimik, dass ist immer so knuffig,
einfach goldig!!! Die Waterloo LP hatte auch tolle Song's drauf über die man sprechen könnte, My Love My live, Dance( While The Music Still goes on), Suzy Hang Around, Sitting in the Palmtree usw.
I think the whole song is brilliant!
Leave Dereck alone. He can have his own opinion especially with his looks, voice and eyes which are BTW gorgeous
The whole Voulez-Vous album is fabulous. Probably my favorite of theirs.
One of my favourites. . Takes me back to Sunday mornings as a little girl dancing round the living room while listening to ABBA greatest hits vo! II.
The «Voulez-Vous» album is jam-packed with great songs! 💙💙💙Leur Musique est Magique!💙💙💙They ended the 70's on a high note for sure! I remember reading articles of Agnetha and Frida when they would go shopping for clothes in Milan, and they would stop traffic in Frida's cherry-red Maserati.
Tnx for the reviews of all ABBA songs...💛💖💙😊🤗🤩😀😁 It is upbeat song and catchy...😂😂😂☺️☺️☺️😀😀😀😁😁😁
Finally! Been waiting for this!
this song is a grower! first time i heard it 2 days ago i was like meh, its ok. But now im fucking addicted lol.
Another great ABBA song for sure.. Lol. As a guy who had ANGEL EYES, but I'm a good guy, yeah I knew it, when this song came out I just pretended it was about me! Lol. How did I know? Soo many girls between 17 and 30 would say, you have beautiful eyes...thanks mom, rip, I had her eyes.
I always loved this song, upbeat music sad lyrics, just what I like 😍
My favourite ABBA song.
Tip: dancing to it at bus stops will get you funny looks
Next The Album: 'One man one woman' and 'Move on', please.
Or the 1st album with "he is your brother"
@@resireg that song is one of their best....love it in "the movie "....and they say abba couldn't write meaningful lyrics in the early years. ..man...the lyrics in that song are profound. ...
Hay dude! Pure magic!!
There work where ahead of time!!
Still fresh to this day..
Liked your reaction!!
Love this song mostly cause I have related to the chorus before. One of my favorite reactions too
Thank you Dereck! 😊 it’s never been my favorite, just coming in nicely, but now rediscovered as a very nice song. And I agree to the ‚Aha‘s‘ too and I even prefer the verses over the chorus.
Now I’m ready for ‚Elaine‘ and ‚Move on‘ 😄 that’s all 😉
I think that ABBA's lyrics are a very good interpretation as to what men actually do to us; hypnotize us - take what they want - and leave us... (sometimes!) The melodious part of where those lyrics actually feature in the Song sum up the beautiful sweet pain that some men can give us when we are so defenceless to their charms... A truly beautiful Song!
You should do 'The King Has Lost His Crown' next which is also quite experimental. The lyrics could be seen as the man being talked about in 'Angeleyes' getting his comeuppance.
When you listen to the Voulez-Vous album, As Good As New, I Have A Dream and Angeleyes in particular pour on the synth strings. And others mentioned the rest of the album is experimental, with a disco facade. A complicated feat to achieve.
Suberp vocal arrangements and production.
This is a song that working on so many levels.
Angelic in parts and a deeply menacing in others.
Incredibly clever.
My 2nd all time favourite ABBA song - my top favourite is ‘The Visitors’.
2:16 The rhythmic signature changes, but the tempo of the song does not change :D
this is my favourite dereck thank you
So glad you finally did Angeleyes, but it's time for "I've Been Waiting For You."
From the same album Please React to "The King Has Lost His Crown." by Abba.
one of my fav abba's song
How many of you had posters of those pics shown? I lost track how many I had. How good was it to go looking in town on a Saturday afternoon and finding a new one!
Jackie magazine was the best for the glossy centre spread poster....look in magazine had an abba poster nearly every fortnight. ...oh...how i looked forward to them....Ireland
@@frankly-he1kf Oh the memories! Got the Look-in every week.
Me encanta esta canción, mi papá la tenía en cassette y la escuchábamos todo el tiempo en el auto y yo atrás con el parlante tras mi cabeza escuchaba todos los detalles de la canción. Excelente!
This one stands the test of time. Never gets old :) All ways find something new and different every time I hear it. :)
The Voulez vous album is a strong album, with a lot of directions in it.
Voulez Vous is ABBA's best album
@@AdamDawson3 true! It’s my favorite
@@AdamDawson3 Well, perhaps. I would say that the top 3 best Abba albums are: Voulez Vous, Super Trouper and The Visitors. Their last 3 albums proved the best years of ABBA. Cannot wait for 2021 new music!!!
It os their disco album
One of my favorites - love it!
This is THE song that made me fall in love with them in 1979 (B side from Voulez-Vous). I hope it won’t be your last track from this album.....I HAVE A DREAM is a fantastic song with Frida doing the vocals.
Fun fact - although already internationally super famous, Annifrid and Agneta used to help out and background sing behind other artists on the Polar label and Björn and Benny would help out playing some instrument or also sing background, simply because they happened to be in the Polar studio😃 Listen to the track "Moviestar" by Swedish Harpo and you hear them in the background😉
czcams.com/video/KWRDFq0Xr_s/video.html
Wow!! They are so devoted with their craft.. Music is like breathing to them.
@@badlongon525They sure are👍🌞 They enjoyed making music together, you can tell from studio footage and video clips from when they recorded their new songs that it has'nt changed in all these years.
I'm a bit late but I have to say that Agnetha didn't sang background in Moviestar. Frida and Lena Ericsson were the background singers. There is a making of video of that song where you can see it.
HOW IS THIS NOT CATCHY, DUDE????? trying not to be biased (bc this is my absolute favorite ABBA song) but this is a masterpiece. the backing vocals, the rhythm, the bass, the lyrics... god!!!!
but i have to say it: loved your reaction to “should i laugh or cry”. that is my 2nd favorite abba track and some friends keep telling me is a bad tune. basically every thing you said is how i feel about that song, so THANK YOU. siloc deserves so much more recognition!!!
ABBA did a mini musical ( The girl with the golden hair ) from ABBA - The Album .
The tracks are 1. I WONDER (DEPARTURE) 2. I'M A MARIONETTE 3. THANK YOU FOR THE MUSIC . All different but excellent songs .
And then Björn and Benny wrote music from complete musicals, my favorite being ‘Chess’. I really hope Dereck reacts to some Chess hits too like ‘One Night in Bangkok’, ‘I Know Him So Well’, ‘Nobody’s Side’ and all the others!
There was a fourth song in that mini-musical the very rare track 'get on the carouselle'(sp?)
@@madabbafan That's right. But it never made it on the album.
@Stan Solo It was reworked to become ‘Hole in Your Soul’
"I wonder" is a masterpiece
Wonderful Dereck! 👍❤️❤️
The interesting thing about ABBA songs is how they can consistently transition from idealism to realism.
Angeleyes"
is a good disco-style song, within the disco-style album "Voulez Vous"
(with the exception of the ballads "Chiquitita" and "I have a dream")
that ABBA recorded following the influences of disco music in North America with Bee Gees succes
It was together, with "Voulez Vous" as double A-side, the third single from said album, it reached # 3 in UK
In this album I prefer other songs of that style, such as
"As good as new" and
"If it wasn't for the nights"
OMG !!! Awww you are so gorgeous. Subscribed. A new fan from Australia. Love the reviews.
What shall I say when there are no words for it? (Keep on smiling... dancing in your fluffy heart 😌)
hi dereck !! I love ABBA too ! They were my favorite band from 1978 until they broke up. Then, I continue to follow Agnta and Frida when they made solo records.
what a pity for us tha this group is separated because they were the best !! innovative, efficient...I regret them so much !
but...when you listen to again...it's always in tune with the time...
I do not get enough
Me and I, Angeleyes...
a cradle robber is what he is!! LOL this track has become a "go too" track for ABBA on the internet. Track is a little ahead of it's time, at the time.
Hey dereck love this song and love your reactions to ABBA hahaha messaged u to react to this song thanx for reacting ABBA has and will always be the expect to unexpect
