    My #1 piece of advice when buying toys like this (out of warranty, exotic, etc) is to have a 20-30k play fund. Something breaks, you have already paid for it in your mind and you just dip into the play fund you have set aside. If you think setting aside 20-30k is crazy (not accusing anyone), you probably can’t afford the car 😉

    • @JohnEngel
      @JohnEngel  Před 4 lety +3

      Paul Howey not bad advice at all. I was told that for everyone mile you drive you need one dollar. So if you drive 1,000 miles a year it will cost you about that. If you drive 20,000 miles then you need even more. Your way covers either and is the better way to go.

    Some inaccuracies presented. 1) 360's do not require engine out service. Not even for cambelts, although that is an additional expense over the 430 (every 3-5 years). 2) the f1 and manual trans is essentially the same transmission. the F1 is not "better"...it shifts faster, and well suited for track use, for the few who will ever track their cars. however it is arguable that the manual is subjectively a better experience, and certainly is more reliable and requires less maintenance vs the f1 (which seemed to put you off of the 360 :))

      Sorry but the F1 is indeed better in the F430. You won't have a better experience with a manual gated shifter if you're not even able to get into the proper gear when you want. That's the problem with the F430 model. It was never engineered nor designed with the 3 pedal gated shifter in mind. Many F430 gated shifted owners complain about the hard 1st to 2nd shifts. 360 3 pedal owners have less issues and even less for the 355 because those cars were engineered and designed with the 3 pedal gated shifter in mind. How you have to shift in an F430 is so slow. 1. push in clutch 2. Take out of 1st gear 3. Make sure you made it into second gear. 4. release clutch. For whatever reason some folks don't mind this but for me I want to shift fast. I will have my fun with a 3 pedal car in my 2001 E46 M3...because this car was engineered/designed for a 6 speed 3 pedal.

    @stratpuppy Před 5 lety +1

    Dude - you are wrong.. 360s do not require an engine out service. The last V8 Ferrari that required that was the 355. Manual is also the only way to go for cars that were still available in stick whilst the cars were still being produced. The single clutch mechanism of the F1 system in the 360 and 430 is both clunky and outdated. Moreover, the clutch wears out quicker on the F1 system. Finally, the manual is a much better investment over the long term.

    • @JohnEngel
      @JohnEngel  Před 5 lety

      stratpuppy you are correct on the 360. It has been brought up a few times and I was mistaken. When it comes to Manual vs F1 transmissions, the F1 is a faster shifting trans. This is why they are doing away with Manuals. Now if you are saying that you prefer the feel of a manual than I understand completely. I also like the look of a gated shifter but many articles have been written that cover why the F1 or automatics are faster. When it comes to investment, I think you are right. Especially, right now but who knows 30 years from now.

    • @JohnEngel
      @JohnEngel  Před 6 lety

      mechanical engineering I agree. A manual F430 was at least 10K more for the same car and just not worth the difference to me. I also enjoy it being a paddle car because it’s something that different from my stick shift cars. If I only had the F430 I would also want it to be a stick. :)

    • @f430ferrari5
      @f430ferrari5 Před 5 lety

      When I bought my Ferrari back in 2007, F1's were commanding higher prices than a 3 pedal gated shifter. It has switched around the other way since there are probably 10 times more F1's than there are 6 speed 3 pedals. And believe me you wouldn't want an F430 3 pedal. You'll get aggravated when you can't get it into gear consistently and have confidence getting into gear. You're better off getting a 360 3 pedal. Not sure if you're on FerrariChat but many F430 gated shifted owners complain of their sticky hard to shift issues. I always joke and tell them they should have gotten an F1! LOL!!

The 360 has an access panel in the back seat for the belt service so the engine stays in the car. You need to inspect the motor mounts on this models. They will wear down.

    • @matts6551
      @matts6551 Před 6 lety +1

      John Engel - True it is considerably slower but the majority of Ferrari owners don’t track their cars (as I have found out working for Ferrari). they’ll either store the car or daily them, and when you daily drive a Ferrari, how fast the car shifts is pretty meaningless. I speak from experience having a 1987 Ferrari 328 GTS, as I’ve driven it for 10,000 miles without caring about how fast or slow it shifts, it’s just pure fun using something that can be traced back half a century (gated shifter) and hearing the click clack sounds while you nail that perfect heal toe shift...can’t do that in a F1.

Obviously I would love to smash on the track in the Ferrari all day but the truth is it isn't as easy to get as good of lap times as the M3. On the road however, the Ferrari is way more enjoyable. Each has their pros and cons. It just depends on the tarmac and circumstances it is being driven under. I'm a total purist when it comes to cars but sometimes the F1 is literally the best transmission you can have in certain situations. I prefer manual but I love my f1 gearboxes for what they are capable of.

    you shouldnt talk sh.t about manual, i think automatics are more like a toy than a car, i enjoy manuals much more than auto whatever the case, yes new dual clutches are fast especially porsche's pdk but even my daily driver is manual, thats the soul of driving...

    • @JohnEngel
      @JohnEngel  Před 4 lety

      Pooky I didn’t talk sh!t about them. I said exactly what you said. Most of the cars I own are manuals. They all have their place. Each is good for a different purpose.

      @@JohnEngel yeah maybe i dont like tracking my cars all that much but even if i was tracking them idk if its just me or not i would still prefer manuals except luxury cars like a merc s600 or rolls royce or sth which i dont like and i dont have :)

    • @JohnEngel

      Pooky they all have a place. Sometimes going through the gears is the best therapy. Sometimes I want to just relax and cruise and sometimes I want track times. :)

    The 360 does not require engine out service. Get your facts straight. You lost me as a subscriber.

      @JohnEngel  Před 4 lety

      Robert Cutrupi hey Robert, I did get that wrong and in another video I addressed that. Also a lot of people have mentioned it in the comments. It’s a 2 year old video and I can’t remove just that part. I’m a 360 fan so I am glad it does not require and engine out. Hate that this bothered you so. My newer stuff isn’t much better but I do try to get facts right and learned a lot from subscribers like you.

      Car it self is really nice don't get me wrong I have never owned a Ferrari been been thinking about it. All my cars from the Porsches I have had and my Huracan. Have all been black on black lol I know boring, but did luv the outside of your car..anyway happy driving.

    • @JohnEngel
      @JohnEngel  Před 6 lety +1

      mic01 thank you. No worries at all. I have always had a soft spot for red interiors. I had a 911 with a black interior and loved that car. I also had a Gallardo with a blue interior and I'm not sure I was a big fan of that one. Lol.
