  • The ‘Isi-Agu’ attire adorned by the cabin crew of Nigeria’s indigenous airline, Air Peace, has generated a debate on social media, after the chairman of the the airline, Dr Allen Onyema was spotted walking in style with the cabin crew to board their inaugural flight to London on Saturday, March 30th 2024.
Many Nigerians across the globe, have shown excitement over the Airline’s bold move in challenging the dominance of foreign carriers in the market, However amidst the celebration, some Nigerians on social media have questioned the incorporation of a traditional Igbo attire, ‘Isi Agu’ worn by the Airlines cabin crew.
Some critics voiced concerns over ethnic identity and tribalism, in others argued that as a privately-owned business, Air Peace has the prerogative to represent its cultural roots.
The Kaduna State Governor, Uba Sani, has decried the huge debt, he inherited from his predecessor, Nasir El-Rufai, when he assumed office on May 29th 2023, declaring that the state is now left with little money and not enough to pay salaries attracting a wave of criticism from Bashir El-Rufai, son of the ex-Governor.
Uba Sani had made the comment while addressing a town hall meeting in Kaduna, adding that despite the huge debt totaling $587million dollars, including N85 billion Naira and a separate N115 billion Naira in contract liabilities from the ex-governor he has not borrowed any loan in the last nine months of his government.
Amidst the debate over Kaduna’s debt profile, previous social media posts of el-Rufai criticising former President Goodluck Jonathan over debt, began circulating on social media.
In a 2012 post on X, El-Rufai criticised Jonathan for borrowing at the expense of the country’s future.

I'm Yoruba (Ekiti State) and I want to say this proudly as a Nigerian..... If anyone has an issue with seeing this gorgeous Nigerian attire on Air Peace, they should consider starting their own airline based on their own ethnicity. .. or remain silent in their ignorance.
Enough of this nonsense! Actually, I'm going to buy Isi-Agu for my personal use from now on. The demand for Isi-Agu will skyrocket even more because people from other tribes and more from the East will also start buying and wearing it always. Great!....
Let's spread love, and avoid discrimination against any Nigerian. Remember, Air Peace's crew and aircraft flew to South Africa and Ukraine to save and bring Nigerians home. Do you think those rescued Nigerians cared about the crew's attire?
No, they were just grateful to be saved by the Great Nigerian Airline, Air-peace founded by a great Igbo Nigerian man. Let's cleanse our minds of tribalism.
God bless Dr. Allen Onyema, Air Peace and God bless Nigeria!

I which Nigerians are progressive and liberal like you. Growing up in Lagos in the 60s - 70s, amongst friends, you couldn't tell who Yoruba, Hausa, Ibo,Urhobo, etc.We were all buddies and ate at each other's house. My childhood from the nursery was the son of Vice Admiral of the Navy, and at that, he was next to Maj Gen Gowon. When they moved from my area, l spent my vacation with them. And I learned how to eat Calabar dishes with the small black snail like that you suck out the meat. We were all buddies. I thought the current generation of Nigerians would be more liberal and progressive. However, Nigerian politicians have turned everything based on ethnicity. When you go on Facebook and read about a Nigerian excelling in sports, instead of reading, he or she is Nigerian. You instead read he or she is from Ondo state, Imo state, Oyo state, etc. Unfortunately, some Yorubas and Igbos are so notorious for doing this. As an Urhobo and someone who spent my entire childhood and preteen in Lagos and my dad retired as Lagos official. I probably wouldn't be welcomed in Lagos during an election. It doesn't really bother me because l am never planning to ever visit Nigeria again. Because everything in Nigeria is sickening.

    2. My endorsement goes to the extent that they must not wear any other ethnic group's traditional material.
    3. To all bigots, go and start your own airline and clothe them in Aso Oke, Babanriga etc etc, the more the merrier.
    4. Please, someone tell me where I can purchase Isi-Agu in bulk!.
Rufai - I think it is fair to say Igbos have moved on from the Civil War even when it would be understandable for them not to.
The only groups that haven't "moved on" are the bigots. Guess what, they aren't bigots because of the civil war, Sardauna, Awo or Zik. They are bigots because they feel how dare the Igbos make their own way in life, how dare Igbos become industrialists, how dare Igbos become billionaires without state-sponsored corruption, while they, the bigots are Almajeris, quota system opportunists and Baba sope politicians that cannot exist without access to Nigerians' treasures.
Everyday, the Igbos remain the only ethnic group that demonstrate that Nigeria can be prosperous and productive. The bigots within the other 2 major ethnic groups have become a noose around everyone else's necks with their lack of productivity and begging mentality.

@@user-iu7wr3xr3u So what if it's Igbo culture? It's only painful for you people when an Igbo man decides to represent. Nigeria is a multi-cultural nation, let other tribes do what Air Peace is doing if they are not happy. I love this! I used to hate African shows e.g Nollywood Award shows where instead of representing & promoting African attires, they spend their time wearing English/Foreign Outfits. Show me any country across the world where they spend their time showing off African attires. No one is going to promote the culture for you. Nigerians are the change they are waiting for. Afterall, we are running the "Yoruba Republic of Nigeria" right now where tribalism trumps competency, why are you not complaining about the Yoruba govt who took everything a Hausa govt left for him & over inflated everything within a few months & still can't make things work for the Nigerian people. So, in this day & age, no one has the right to call out another tribe. The precedent has been set. I'm not Yoruba, Igbo, or Hausa but Air-Peace have the right to represent his tribe & if other tribes don't like it, they can enter their own Airlines or enter foreign Airlines. It's only when it comes to the IGBOs that tribalism starts rearing its ugly head. Nigeria(ns) & their arrant nonsense! Their energy is always converted to toxic energy.

Please change your mindset. 1) An igbo girl was caught for jamb malpractice; they hate us. 2) An igbo man was caught for kidnapping; it is a lie, they are trying to frame us, it is a conspiracy. They hate your tribe but igbos have turned South West states to their abroad, check the numbers of igbos in Kano and Kaduna. I think you are the one that is tribalist, you enjoy the advantages other tribes bring on board but when there are small issues, you cover it with the cloth of tribalism. The statement of one individual dies not necessarily represent the stance of others from the ethnic group. There is no ethnic group where someone has never said something bad about others before. I don't know why anything Igbo threatens some people. I schooled in Maiduguri and served NYSC in Oyo and while in school my closest buddies were Idoma from Benue. One common thing I observed which still baffles me till date was that, when I'm in their midst they'll be speaking their language even though they know I don't understand it and I never for once complained or feel threatened, but once there is a fellow Igbo person in our midst and we speak Igbo, they'll start complaining and want you to speak English instead.
Why don't you establish your own business and dress them as monkey if that satisfy you, and I promise you if it's cheap enough, I'll be the first to buy the ticket

Many Nigerians wrongly believe that the ethnic bigotry directed towards the Igbos is as a result of fallout from the civil war. That is clearly not the case. Ethnic bigotry from other Nigerian tribes towards the Igbos existed before the civil war and was what mainly led to the war, after too many incidents of targeting and mass killings of the Igbos living in other parts of Nigeria. From results of various research, collective and overwhelming success of the Igbos above other Nigerian tribes is the root cause
