Thank you for explaining the difference between the first amendment right to free speech and people's privilege to have social media accounts. The first amendment only protects you from government persecution, private companies can kick you off their platform, jobs can fire you, schools can kick you out. Those aren't rights they're privileges. If only schools would teach kids what the laws and policies really say... Also, Bruce's expression when Tate says he's a strongly religious man 😆
Does a person have a right to earn a living?
This isn't in the constitution obviously, but a right to life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness should pertain when a post you made on social media can get you fired from your job, and effect your ability to feed yourself or your family now or in the future.
Let's be real. Social media companies have more rights now than the freaking government does, because the government enmasse isn't trying to get people fired for having opinions. There needs to be huge changes and regulations because they are far to big, powerful, and encompassing to everything we do.
They unfairly enforce the terms and rules which is discrimination.
Considering CZcams, Facebook and Google (Google being explicitly formed by the CIA which is literal public knowledge if you weren't aware) are all Corporate Welfare entities, support solely by the state. Your statement is entirely false, government corporations have a legal obligation to uphold the first amendment. However if we see how the second amendment is fairing considering there is absolutely no constitutional limits to the right of weaponry, then we know the actual rights of the last Americans are endangered. The only right terrorists want you to have, including yourself, is the being homosexual and having no glue what your biological sex is, which is thee same as gender if you were unaware of science.

Thank you Bruce and happy birthday. Many excellent points as usual. You are an important value leader here on YT. I appreciate your efforts and feel inspired and encouraged by you to try to be one as well. The Andrew Tates and his kind, whatever place on the political spectrum they occupy (populists right, left and middle), are emotional "crack" to (young)people in need of direction and purpose. Your message of channeling one's energy into taking responsibility, building, being kind, doing useful things and avoiding bad decisions is very needed.

I've only seen one video of his before and he struck me as a very carefully crafted character from the ground up. Everything from his manner of speech to the content of what he says, it's designed to do many things to many people and craft a platform for maximum exposure for him as "the product". It's very cleverly done and forward thinking in some senses, it's a social media perpetual motion machine and to the right advertisers is absolutely gold.
He ain't my cup of tea, but having taken a step back and tried to look at this from a broader perspective, this is my take on things.

i love your channel and i have a few questions regarding this topic...
- there is such a thing a de jure & de facto when it comes to legal philosophy, therefore, cant the same argument be made when it comes to our bill of rights and the meaning of the "public square"? meaning, though these platforms are private businesses, the sec 230 assumes this is our modern form of a public square when providing two distinctions between what is a "platform" & "publisher". thus, an argument can be made that we do have a right of expression in platforms as they do monitor and establish algorithms defining them as a publisher?
- also, you brought up the incentives of advertisers... and well wouldn't the incentive to advertise in accounts with large audiences be reasonable? i think we often conflate between the idea of advertisement and sponsorship. just because a coca cola commercial appears before your video, does not mean they approve all that you say. in short, why do advertisers ought to have control over creator's content?

As far as I know theres a difference between publisher and a platform, like, if a newspaper puts up something blatantly false or criminal, they will be in worse trouble than a social media platform, because they dont vet the content the same way. So, if someone is getting facebook views through questionable means and illegal content, facebook can easily dodge the brunt of that, because they arent publishers, and will turn a blind eye if it makes them money. And then they will ban stuff that they dont like if it doesnt make them enough money, take for example getting blanked for criticising the platform or someone who pays the platform enough.
So, there is certainly something to be said about how some platforms want to have the control of publishers while the safety of being a platform.
Buuuut this is not that. Because platforms also have some rules(ie. Cant swear in club penguin), and his content is clearly violating the rules.

There’s also the question of how to apply American constitutional rights to what has become an essentially international platform with American ownership. ie, as an Australian, America’s First Amendment rights simply don’t apply to me, however, all these social media platforms have fairly details terms of agreement that most of us just press agree without reading. And that gives the platform the right to terminate that agreement as they choose. You’ve already agreed to them taking that action.
They don't even need to apply constititional laws of any kind. Us first amendment is about government and private citizens, not private companies.

Absolutely love your content, Bruce. You are so down to earth and I have learned a lot watching your clips. I teach inmates about substance abuse treatment and really work to instill positivity, cognitive behavioral techniques, and ways to try to avoid drug use in the future and going to prison again. It is rough to accomplish this at times because the system I work in is so negative all the time and often I am perceived as weak or coddling the inmates. Definently a system that is not focused on rehabilitation. I had a correctional officer a few weeks ago tell me that most of the officers see the program I teach as a joke. I often feeling like I am trying to swim upstream in the Colorado River. I can only imagine how that treatment constantly makes the inmates feel. Thank you for being the positive influence you are and trying to make a difference. People are so quick to judge others because of crime without fully understanding that now everyone in prison is a serial killer or a child molester, some just made some really poor choices at really low times in their lives.

It sounds to me like your program might be the only positive note many of your attendees will encounter during their time inside.
I think that officer was trying to discourage you because he, personally, is an unhappy person. I bet there are many officers who, even if it's not said out loud, actually appreciate your efforts more than you'll ever know.
My brother was a police officer for twenty five years and he would wholeheartedly agree with your direction.
During his time on the job, he would joke that if he were reading a spiritual book or something like that, he would never be caught dead doing so at work because of all the ribbing he would get. I would bet it's something very much like that in your situation too.
I hope you don't get too discouraged. I guarantee you are offering the only light during a very dark and hopeless time for many people you work with. You have no idea how deep of an impact you could be making. Just to be seen and regarded as a member of the human race, as a being capable of pain and love and greatness, that alone could be the singular thing that keeps one of those men from taking their own lives later.
Almost everyone they encounter is probably either head counting them, or cavity searching them, and/or actively •trying• to dehumanize them, on the daily-by assigning them numbers, by continuously touching them without permission and without the inmate being able to react in any way, and searching their private quarters, etc.
It would make a person feel they no longer had agency over their own bodies or spaces. At the same time being treated like a savage, no matter their charges. And no matter if their charges were just the inevitable result of circumstances and as you said, bad choices.
I, for one, appreciate your work and your intent. You obviously have a very big heart and a good mind and work ethic.

@@sukimarmelaide4030 Wow, thank you so much for your comment. It actual brought tears to my eyes. I used to be an xray/ CT tech until I got Lyme disease in 2016. My background for 2 decades was Healthcare and meeting the needs of my patient. After the Lyme I was no longer able to physically do my job and it broke my heart. So I made a career change and kind of fell into this current line of work. I believe that God leads me to where i need to be in life and i just have to be open to seeing the signs and keeping the faith that it will work out.
Even if my efforts are considered by some that I work with to be a "joke" I do know that I see positive changes in the inmates who want to change and who put in the effort. The guys who take the tools and knowledge I provide them and work hard at it see a change in themselves and they show me their appreciation. To see that light bulb moment of where they realize why they have been abusing or how differently they can handle situations that lead them to much more positive outcomes is amazing to me.
Some of these men have never had anyone encourage them or stick around long enough to build trust. I am always sure to let them know that everyone of us is human and have flaws and failures. We are all sinners, addicts of some kind, flawed in some way, and some of us have been subjected to more tragedy and trauma than others. I am not saying that because of these things anyone should get a free pass but that doesn't mean that should be a reason to throw away or give up on people either.
Your brother is absolutely right. I have learned who I can share accomplishments with and whom I can not. I have the easy job it is the inmates who have to do the hard work and take what they have learned and use it. I am graduating a class this coming Friday, all have passed their monthly drug UAs for the last 7 mons of the program. Many are eligible for lower security and some are working on writing commutations to the Governor. I can pretty much tell those who are done with the hustling and criminal life and those who are probably going to back slide but all I can ask for is that they take at least a little something away that will help bring them more onto the side of positive than the negative.
