  • You may be surprised that you can grow melons in the UK. There are lots of varieties that are suitable to grow in a greenhouse or polytunnel.
Ill show you what and how we sow and grow our melons on our allotment.

Hi, thank you for your videos. Finding them so helpful. It is my first year of having an allotment and greenhouse. I really wanted to grow melons, so I have started growing Hales Best Jumbo Cantaloupe. I have 2 plants which are growing nicely. I'm praying I can keep them alive and enjoy some tasty melon in the summer 😊

If you do have any issues, don't lose hope on the future growing of melons. They can be temperamental plants. And some years are better for growing then others. But I'm sure you will get a great harvest this year.

Love it. Never give up on melons. You never know we may have a good summer. 👍 they are so weather dependant on whether they give a crop.

Thanks for the video! I'm also trying to focus more on melons this year and have sown about 4 varieties, but not all have germinated. I tried to grow Emir ourdoors last year and it didn't really result in anything. July was quite wet and cool (we are based in Surrey) and they just didn't have time to ripen whereas the ones in the poly were just stunning. 2 years ago I got 5 decent sugar baby watermelons, last year I got nothing. It really depends on the weather. Good luck, looking forward to seeing how it works out for you!

Exactly that. It's all to do with our summers ☀️ the warmer the better . Just because it's a fail one year doesn't mean it will never happen 😍

Watermelon is grown outdoors in Ukraine 🇺🇦 where the climate is colder and winters longer, so for the first time I am growing one watermelon plant outside in a tub. In my mini potted fruit garden( i have no actual garden), two sides of the fruit garden have brick walls and is SW facing so I’m hoping the fruit garden will create a micro climate and the walls act as a thermal mass. Here’s hoping! If it doesn’t work out I will try the cold hardy ‘’imere’’ (?not sure of spelling) next year.

The garden with the brick walls will be perfect 👌
      I didn't know that about Ukraine 👍

Glad to hear they've germinated for you. I had the same issues last year and cus I threw the spent compost on one of the beds as a mulch, they all grew outside 😂 any problems though im here if you want them xx
