In 2014, a little Norwegian girl was named and codified, a national treasure by both the King of Norway and the prime Minister. That same year, she sang for the Nobel peace prize winners all at the age of 8.
In 2023, that same girl, now almost 18 once again graced the Nobel peace prize stage and sang for the recipient once again.
That young girl is none other than Angelina Jordan.
Angelina Jordan made history with this performance.
Angelina is the only solo singer under the age of 18 to have performed twice at the Nobel peace prize concert.
When I learned the story of Narges Mohammadi, this years recipient of the Nobel Peace Prize, and the history of the song "Unchained Melody", I fully understood why Angelina Jordan chose this song.

This is one of Europe's most respected orchestras...they are Norway's national broadcasting orchestra KORK and, they are superb!

This is so, so different in compare to the orginal version but yet so respectful to that orginal. Yesterday a short video popped up where you can see how Angelina, the conductor and a pianist are working on the arrangement in preparation for this performance (CZcams channel: H S, which is very related to Angelina). And guess what: Angelina is the lady in charge (in a very polite way). Let's not forget: despite her age Angelina is a very experienced musician, perfectly knowing how to make a song her own, with upmost respect to the orginal. Another reactor was calling it "Angelina-ing" a song.

And let’s not forget Angelina’s Iranian heritage and Oslo is her hometown! Third time with KORK, she did Back to Black and Summertime when she was 10! Has been invited twice to Nobel Peace Prize, previously appeared when she was eight! She has brought grace and elegance back to the stage! Narges is in jail for leading the fight for women’s rights in Iran! At the end Angelina puts her hand over her heart acknowledging Narges children who were on stage and happen to be Angelina’s age and are living in exile in France!Remember that she was codified a National Treasure of Norway by the King and Prime Minister when she was eight years old!

Every time I hear the KORK Orchestra begin playing, I feel a surge of emotion because I know what is coming next: the most amazing rendition of Unchained Melody by the incomparable Angelina Jordan. She has a voice of an angel and a talent beyond words. Unchained Melody Nobel Peace Prize 2023 Some ask why Angelina Jordan would pick Unchained Melody for this event, Narges Mohammadi, the Iranian human rights activist who received the prestigious award remains in Iran. One of the most popular and enduring love songs of all time, Unchained Melody, has a surprising origin. It was composed for a 1955 film called Unchained, which tells the story of a man who is incarcerated for a crime he did not commit. She was given permission by the Director of the Norwegian KORK Orchestra to arrange this song for this performance.
To me that's not a surprise: They know Angelina since she did win NGT (back in 2014). So they are very aware of the fact she will do music proud in any arrangement she makes. And she will never ever change a song beyond recognizion. What she did do here was changing the meaning of the song. After Angelina did "her magic" it wasn't a simple lovesong anymore but a song with much deeper emotions in it. It is wonderful to hear/see both versions: the orginal and this version. Two top songs with the same melody (most of it) and still so different.

The original song is from a 1955 movie, Unchained. Bobby Hatfield of the Righteous Brothers sang it ten years later on the Andy Williams show 1965. That version was later used in the movie Ghost.

If you haven’t heard her performance of “Fly Me to the Moon” at age 12 for Quincy Jones 85th birthday celebration in London, you need to. There are two different videos. One is the actual rehearsal which is about 5 minutes long and you can see the discussion with the conductor and a second one about 2 minutes long with enhanced sound. Watch both. Also, watch the orchestra after she sings. 12. Years. Old.

Narges Mohammadi was this years' recipient of the Nobel Peace Prize. Narges was, at the time of this tribute, on a hunger strike while imprisoned in Iran, for being an activist for women's rights. Her two children spoke on her behalf at this event. Most of the performers were Iranian.
We know Angelina's grandmother, Mery Zamani, grew up in Iran and was a prodigy for painting and poetry. We can imagine the conversations Mery had with Angelina about Narges. This performance had to be extremely meaningful to Angelina and her family. I hope all the angels will spread the story of Narges and her mission, with the hope for change.
In 1954, Alex North was contracted to compose the score for the prison film Unchained (released in 1955). North had a melody he had written in the 1930s and composed and recorded the score when he was asked to write a song based upon the movie's theme. North asked Hy Zaret to write the lyrics. After first refusing, Zaret and North together wrote "Unchained Melody. Zaret refused the producer's request to include the word "unchained" in his lyrics. The song eventually became known as the "Unchained Melody" even though the song does not actually include the word "unchained". Instead, Zaret chose to focus on someone who pines for a lover he has not seen in a "long, lonely time".
"Unchained Melody" comes from the film centered on a man who contemplates either escaping from prison to live life on the run or completing his sentence and returning to his wife and family. So indeed this song fits along with Narges being in prison and her two children, and the rest of the people who embrace freedom, calling for her release.

Absolutely phenomenal performance from our musical genius,I know Angelina is so proud and humbled to be performing at the Nobel Peace Concert especially in her home country Norway with the Norwegian Kork orchestra,this is the second time Angelina has performed at this event, in 2014 at 8 years old Angelina performed at the Nobel peace event, Angelina has collaborated with the Norwegian Kork orchestra on several occasions, once at 10 years old with her own arrangement of ( Back To Black ) and her arrangement of ( Summertime) again Angelina was 10 years old,Angelina is a once in a generation talent a phenomenal performer vocalist and a incredible songwriter, she also plays piano and guitar and speaks many languages, great reaction thanks!

Like what she did to 'Bohemian Rhapsody' she created a classic version of this iconic song which will never be forgotten and played often through the years. You mentioned besides her soulful voice what really gets to you is her 'performance'. Let's look into that a little deeper. Her soulfulness transforms into a purest form of love when she sings to us and yes, we react to every word she sings 'for us' because each word is smothered with love and she touches our heart. Her 'performance' is an expression of genuine love and what she has cannot be taught or manufactured. She is, in fact, the real deal and every song she sings always ends too soon because she is serenading us with tones of love and we never want it to end.

Thw NPPC was November 2023 I believe. Angelina had her first USA concert in September 2023 in Portsmouth, New Hampshire. Which version appeals to you?
