- The original @Shmee150 Shmeemobile is finally getting underway with some work to bring it back to glory! We're on the road to McGurk Performance Cars to put it on the ramps and get an overview of the problems they can find, including a bit of a leak...
I first bought the Aston Martin V8 Vantage Roadster in 2010, and it was the first ever Shmeemobile, which I then bought back in the summer and have been looking forward to getting properly back into working order. It's take a little longer than intended, but the first step in restoring the former glory is for a full inspection and service and where better than to head to McGurk's.
After the drive up, the team start having a look while we get distracted by the amazing display of Aston Martins and more for sale. It might come as no surprise that a lovely Midnight Blue DBS rather distracts my attention and is dangerously tempting!
However, after heading off for another errand, returning to McGurk's means a run down of the problems with the car including the source of the leak that we've discovered in the garage. It turns out to be a fairly standard problem with the V8 Vantage to have a leak from the timing cover, however there are numerous other small issues including loose heatshields, seatbelt fraying, some worn out leather, plus more.
No doubt with more investigation other problems are going to surface, time shall tell! A huge thanks to McGurk Performance Cars for their help bringing the car back to glory. You can check them out here:

Am I the only one who is absolutely loving this channel, it’s so natural and refreshing in grand scheme of the automotive scene on CZcams. I sometimes prefer these videos to the main channel tbh.

I think we're going to see that DBS in the collection before too long. I can't help notice that it's showing as reserved on the McGurk website at the moment, and they've had it in stock for quite a while. It is a lovely colour though, and reasonable mileage for the age too.

I'd say a DBS would be amazing to have in the collection, like any of them, even the Superleggera would work honestly. I think you should get a V12 from every brand you own that offer V12's in their cars, like an Aston, a Mercedes (G65 might be cool), Lamborghini, Ferrari, and possibly a V12 BMW.
I agree, even if it’s short term lived, it’s always worth it to have a DBS in a collection, especially if it’s a blue one… that would make a really cool « AM blue crew »

You know... I never really thought modern Astons would ever achieve that same vibe of timeless elegance as the classic models from the 60's, but as time goes by, I am starting to come around more and more to the notion that a car like this really will have that aura about it in the future. I think even these lower level cars will be future classics.

I’ve got an idea for the model cars. If you ever have raised flooring in the shmeuseum, make a Nurburgring track layout in the ground and place the model cars at different stages of the track. Make sure it’s nice and Lit up it’ll be quite cool or even a track on the wall and place the model cars on different parts of the track

My favourite era of Aston Martin is certainly the 2000’s to early 2010’s and the DBS is my favourite of that generation.

Tim I bought my DB9 from Matt arcMcGurks and he is a total gent. Car was prepared to a very high standard and they did everything they said they would do. Such a lovely independent Aston Specialist

Love the DBS! Fitting cruise to the V8 does not need a new steering wheel and all you need to remove the shine on the leather is a proper clean!

Tim, how about upgrading the old screen and adding Apple Car play from Aston installations. Mr JWW did it to his DBS and it really made a significant difference in making the car a lot more user friendly.

I was going to ask if you have any thoughts on getting some sort of heat source for the Shmuseum but I think you’ve slightly hinted that that may be down the road. Do you have natural gas in that area and if so, would long tube radiant heaters work for that area?
