I still love that oldschool graphics drivers control panel layout.
Yeah it was better integrated into the OS.
It's actually better looking and more intuitive than Nvidia's current control panel.
Software was just better in 2000-2005
Me too
That pen trick in the first few seconds is GENIUS! Never seen that before!
Thief 2 has fog in the mission "Life of the Party" right where you start which is on the rooftops. Press SHIFT-CTRL-ALT-END to skip to the level.
Thanks! I will have to find a save game I think :)
I think NFS 2 SE has fog too
@Unknown Nomad oh true. maybe tomb raider 3 could do
Hope you are doing well and thanks again for another of your retro video gaming pc videos as not only are they informative but it is basically my relaxation therapy. : )
Teasing a review of the Audigy 1 under 9x/DOS?
I would love that. And thanks for this cool vid too.
Very cool phil! I love the FX line for Windows 98 + DOS combo builds. Also interesting is the Quadro FX1100 AGP, which is effectively a GeForce FX5700 Ultra but can be had for much better prices.
I know you've covered it before but it would have been neat seeing a direct comparison to the FX5500 PCI version -- they can be useful for systems without an AGP slot.
Thanks for the info!
Thanks for covering how well it handles nGlide especially, my good sir. It's also tremendously amusing that you were also using the same CPU I have on my Win98 project build. Even though I have an X800 XL working on mine, there is still a part of me that lusts for an FX 5900 or 5950 if at all possible for it, if for nothing else, to also be able to cover those games like the original FF7 release on it.
I still have my 5500 with 256mb from back in the day. Been using it on my retropc inspired by this great channel and it's loads of fun (oh the nostalgia).
Awesome! Bought a brand new FX5500 a month ago for ~$28 Perfect for Windows 98SE. Very strong.
Where should i look for this card in agp config coming from Europe? Still AliExpress?
You gained a lot of subscribers this month. Keep it up
man, i missed a lot your voice, nice to see you around
Thanks for all your amazing videos. The image quality is excellent. I can not get enough of such beatiful hardware
Glad you like them!
AWESOME video, man! Back to the roots! Classic Phil's Lab material! ;)
Thanks for the video! A few years ago I picked up this card complete in box for literally a dollar. I'm now trying to piece together a retro gaming rig that can use this card.
Yoy have been my inspiration for getting back into games of my childhood. This video is very interesting, as I have ordered a PCI FX5500 for my Pentium 4 machine (has no AGP). I simply want this for late DOS games and windows 9x games that dont work with XP. I have a QX9650 with GTX 970 with XP on it, and a Pentium MMX 166Mhz laptop for early DOS. Think I am pretty much covered other than the fact I have no 3DFX card (and no room for one in PCs)
Fun seeing you return to Windows 98, i missed those videos. I got a 6800GT AGP waiting for me in the closet along with the VIA A8V motherboard you have.
But unfortunately while i got a great deal on the card it has the nv48 which is the later revision with the bridge chip. So i hope its going to play nice with the board and drivers once i get more parts to build a working time machine out of the parts i collected so far.
Patcher wise i had better luck with AutoPatcher than with the unofficial servicepack. Especially AutoPatcher 2008 is really nice. Despite it being older and slower the end result is a fantastic stable system complete with IE6, WMP9 and DX9C. Its how i found the hotfix for the 5710 that fixes its IDE issues since autopatcher contains that fix.
Loved the 6800GT AGP card. Have fun!
I feel so old. The FX series was my fourth video card purchase back in the day. I used it in 2003 to 2006.
Side-question-- I find myself wondering how you organize your boards and parts. How you store your motherboards, processors, and adapter cards. How do you keep them nice and undamaged and easy to find? That would probably be a great video! It's nice how dust-free and clean all your components are. Nice detail.
I keep them in bags and put them in plastic storage containers.
@@philscomputerlab Hi Phil, thanks for the quick reply. That sounds basically like what I do myself. I've found it hard to always remember where I have put something when it's in a container. Do you have that problem as well or do you catalog your stuff somehow? I guess I am assuming you have a sizable collection of parts. Maybe you're disciplined and keep your collection trim. But somehow I feel like computer parts reproduce on their own. I often find 3 adapter cards where I swore I only stored 2. :)
@@bitslasher89 I don't have a catalogue or inventory! Luckily I have a rough memory of what I have LOL I do separate items, like ISA sound cards go into a dedicated box, so do PCI sound cards, or PCIe. Same with Slot 1 CPUs, as they are larger. Normal CPUs go in plastic clamp shells and then per socket into sandwich bag, which I label. Stuff like that. Biggest pain are GPUs and Video cards as they are bulky and require lots of space. If I ever move, it will be a pain LOL
PhilsComputerLab Oh yes same here! Thatâs a good idea to separate by bus type. So far I have only really done that between my micro channel (IBM PS/2) and PC Cards. Now that Iâm playing with newer parts itâs not just ISA and PCI anymore (which I store together at the moment. Speaking of that- I feel somewhat late to the party- everyone seems to think everything is a collectors item these days, at least priced like it! I got into the hobby like 15 years ago when 90s and early 00s stuff was a bargain. I took like a 10 year break, and Now even 5 year old stuff people almost want to treat as âvintageâ parts lol! For some weird reason Iâve become really interested in building a super performant Windows 98 machine (when Iâve been happy with a 1ghz P3 for 15 years). Doing it with a 775/865 was my first thought but thatâs kinda crazy now, but even 478/865 parts seem to be getting expensive now. Especially the graphics cards! Itâs still fun though. Makes the hunt more rewarding I guess. :)
@@bitslasher89 With prices, think of a timeline with and at any given time, there is stuff that is cheap. Before and after is more expensive. Currently it seems around LGA 775 that you can get terrific value. When I stared, everyone was chasing high powered PCI 486 boards and prices quickly increased. While I ended up getting a few 386 and 486 stuff, mostly from Eastern Europe, back then, the best value for DOS gaming was Socket 7 gear and Slot 1 stuff was also prices cheaply. If you need Windows 98 and DOS on a budgtet, Socket 754/939 and Pentium 4 Socket 478 gets my vote!
These cards were quite bandwidth starved I believe. Perhaps a comparison video of the FX series at some point is a good idea? all the way from the lowly 5200 up to the 5950.
@Dr ROLFCOPTER! I benched my FX 5900 Ultra extensively against my 9800 XXL (aka 9800 XT) in a C2D system. Put all the results over at Vogons. The Nvidia card trades blows directly with the ATI card.
Saying that a 9600XT beats the 5950 is absolutely hilariously false.
Just saying...
@Dr ROLFCOPTER! No. Unless you were running the 5950 in PCI mode or simply didn't have a driver installed. The 5950 is faster than my 5900 Ultra, which absolutely annihilates the 9600XT. Entirely different class of card. Not even close in performance.
I owned a 9600 Pro back then. Even my Ti 4800 SE was faster in Quake III. I only swapped in the 9600 Pro to play some FarCry and a handful of newer DX9 titles. My friends 9800 Pro was much faster than my 9600 Pro, and so was the 5900 Ultra.
Never owned a 5950 (even today, still don't have one), but they were faster still. Trading blows with the 9800 XT. Overall the 9800 XT was faster (except in OpenGL), but it was close.
Times have changed when a decade ago getting something like a 5700 or a 5900 was really easy and demand was very low. Goodwill here in the states would have a healthy supply along with plenty of other agp cards to choose from then they changed everything up to appeal to the yuppies so almost everything goes to the scrap now. Still managed to snipe a socket 4 machine off them one morning when another customer walked in lol. For $5 it was a good deal for me :)
My only regret was not buying a boxed pair of socket 8 overdrives for $15 each but then again they would have been lost in an arson attack two years later.
Two comments. First, with the overclocking, I was able to overclock an FX 5200 awhile back and saw a performance change. I think that was XP though. Secondly, I do believe nGlide uses DX9 shaders for translation. As we all know, the FX series DX9 shaders were terribly implemented. I believe older versions of nGlide or dgVoodoo can use DX7/8 translations. This might help improve performance. Good to see a classic retro video today!
My FX 5200 actually overclocked by 30% without voltmods. Also it seems that even programs like afterburner can sometimes work cards as old as this.
Great vid as always!
My Win98 "retro" PC was the one I actually used at the time: it was an Athlon 500, one of those which came in a cartridge, 512mb of RAM and a Voodoo 3 3000 AGPx8 video card. I loved playing games on this machine, they usually ran silky smooth. Actually, my old video card is still in my mom's house, maybe I'll even sell it for some good price, as it is a great card to use with retro PCs!
I had one of these back in the day, nice video.
Very good video love all the information on the card
Thanks so much
Great video Phil. I have a real soft spot for FX-era cards and I like this card. Choosing the right application for these cards and you can have a great time!
anything but fond memories. FX is a big part of it, but generally the design of the cards just started sucking. stickers, stupid shrouds, skinny PCB's. All the noise, fluff and feathers, but not the performance. Names got dumber too. It was a contrast coming from excellent geforce cards like gf3 ti and g4 ti, or the radeon 9700 pro. The 6000 series had a great budget card and all, but you had a 9700 pro to beat in wow-factor... that's tough.
Looked like they made the fx era cards for kids. That was a spot on observation since that's exactly what's being done still. Thankfully at least they manage to churn out a cool looking gpu here and there but oh god the THICC cards look and sound so fucking dumb, couple it with the fucking window every PC "needs" and bam, we got a souped up FX going all over again
This was my first discrete GPU, paired with an AMD Duron 800.
So many LAN games of Command and Conquer Generals were played with this thing.
I have done almost the exact same a few months ago. I installed Win 98 SE with the Unofficial SP3, upgraded to use 1 GB of RAM, and used the exact same GPU on a Pentium 4 system.
Great video!
Thanks for sharing
I think my first PC had a 5500. It was a windows XP machine. I remember playing Halo at 20-30 FPS with some major dips on certain levels like the Covenant ships. Didn't stop me playing though.
What I do remember was my first upgrade was to whatever the last Nvidia AGP card was. I think it was a 8600. The difference was night and day. 60 fps on max settings, no problem.
8600 not have Agp
Great Video. Hard to know whether to go with the FX5500 in 98 or XP. Once you have it working under 98, it looks like a solid single card solution. For 98 I've been enjoying the Geforce2 GTS along side Voodoo2 SLI in my P3 Slot 1. For XP32 I've been running a Geforce 6800 ( MSI NX ) for a few months now on my socket 478 Pentium 4. The motherboard and CPU are my original parts from back in the day & I've done a crazy amount of future proofing to the mainboard (MSI) to keep it going well into the future. I know the P4 doesn't get much love but having owned one back in the day, I still love the setup.
Excellent review Phil!!
I purchased an FX5500 (red PCB) from Aliexpress and the GPU and RAM chips were pulls from old electronics and the GPU was an FX5200 not FX5500. There was artifacting/glitching on the screen so some of the ram was bad too. I uploaded a pic showing the board I received (heatsink removed) at imgur.com/a/glBgH7t so you can see the chips are a mix and not all from the same batch. Thankfully I got refunded. Your purchase from Aliexpress looks very nice, I may try again with the seller that sold yours. Great video as always Phil.
Wow good to know about the pci bus showing up rather than agp!
Nice overview! I would like to see the compatibility with DOS games, would be interesting.
DOS compatibility is very good actually!
This was the card I used to build my first PC! I liked the FX 5500.
Another great video! My ears perked up when you mentioned nGlide, that's always exciting to see! I am curious about how it would perform if you paired this card with a faster Pentium 4 or Athlon 64. Also, have you ever tried dgVoodoo? The older versions support using DirectX 7 cards, although I don't know how good the performance or compatibility is.
thanks for the review Phil
please keep making these!
Some of the M-Audio sound cards would be interesting. I think there are only two the Revolution 5.1 and Revolution 7.1 of modern interest. The Sonic Theater 7.1 USB card in a box is kind of interesting.. but the Sonica not so much. Retro Video Capture and how to do that versus today with SD video would be cool. Retro ATI Wonder (TV and All-In) versus the Hauppauge AverMEdia offerings. I've been long suffering with the confusing history and array of choices from Raw Uncompressed capture, to the trade offs of DV capture, to MPEG2 and then later MPEG4 options.. seems today H.265 is all the rage. It is niche.. but there are still a few of us convertering VHS tapes for friends and family.. if you can find a working VCR. Playing with DVD recorders and Blu-ray recorders is also a riot. You probably don't want to go down the road of Time Base Correctors.. Uber rare and Uber Expensive rolls royce of VCR archeology.. it can get expensive.
Oh Tomb Raider and Thief. You stole my heart. 1st two games I played on a PC in my life.
Some of the speed issues with Nglide and modern DX9 updated renderers.
Back in the day I upgraded to a fx5500 specifically for the DX9 support. while its technically supported on FX cards I think the DX9 performance is ABYSMAL vs dx8 and older. I was disappointed with my purchase
Exceptional video Phil! I use FX5500 as a test card on my retro builds.
As a side note: Undying is such a great game! It should get a remaster!
"No such thing as a bad video card, only a bad price."
Ha! I don't think I'd want a reference 5800/5900/5950 Ultra at any price (due to the blower fan that sounds like a hair drier). The FX5500 or 5600 does have decent performance for the price though.
Yeah, I was not impressed with the fx series at all. I had a 5600xt back in the day. I didn't have money for anything decent for awhile and this being free and able to play gta san Andreas, unlike what I previously had, it lasted me. However it was slower than what I sent in for rma and had less features, but it had direct x 9 support. I thought it was a good card until I noticed some issues and read about the fx series. Sadly a radeon 9800 was out of the question.
5600 would crush the 5500, unless you have the 128 bit version.
The 5900 and 5950 really aren't all that loud compared to the 5800U.
Ive got my 7800GS working 100% perfect in win98se its a beast!
@@Synthematix its a much later irrelevant to the topic card
Damn.... those nvidia installation screen brings back a lot memories when I still using Riva TNT 8MB.
The FX 5500 is in my current Windows 98 computer. It was the second 3D graphics cards I had. Although I did get it about 5 years after it came out.
I still have my EVGA Signature Series GeForce 9800 GTX SOC and I'm planning to put it to good use soon. I also have a few VooDoo 3 3000s PCI and AGP, and a few Voodoo 5 5500s. These will be put to good use soon too!
This seems like a good option for both old and new games. Radeon 9600 is otherwise probably better at newer games but the 8 bit paletted textures and such is nice too have. The FX might be the sweet spot for playing both late 90s games and early 2000s games.
I have the same problem and did the same thing as you. Did you ever figure this out?
I love this episode because this gpu is the first gpu I could recognize as gpu. This gpu made me to upgrade to 7600 gs to play wow.
It also was my first dedicated GPU.
I had it running in a Windows XP AMD build with 2 GB of ram and always played star Wars Battlefront 2 on it.
At least till it died with a loud bang and a disgusting cloud of smoke when 3 of the capacitors failed.
I do remember dilemma back in the days, when you had to choose between Radeon 9200 which did not support DX9, and this card or FX5200 (same as FX5500 but with lower clocks) which did support DX9, but had much lower performance than the Radeon. That was basically your entry level choice back in 2003.
@@Cpt_Wolf it is a bit sad when the water effect from most of games. edit:sorry water effect is perfect I just checked far cry again in windows xp. I'm not sad
The first graphic card I purchase separatedly was geforce 7600gs agp version. It had a value for high performance in the agp era at that time. But it faded soon after the pci e geforce 8600 series came out. 8xxx series dominated.....quickly....with new architecture they said...
Hey Phil, another great video. I have a similar looking Chinese graphics card - Ati RADEON 9550 paired with my Athlon 64 3000+ so feels similar to this build. I'm also running Win98SE and Vista(If you can tell me how to get WinXP activated I'd rather use WinXP SP3 :P)
Suggestion for a benchmark: comparing performance with activated anti-aliasing of GeForce FX vs. earlier series.
I just found an MSI FX5500, in old-new stock in Denmark.
I will be testing my Radeon 9600XT in a week and a half.
If the Radeon is dead, I'm gonna get a hold of the FX5500. Bit pricey but I'll have a warranty xD
Awesome video
On Gearbest there had been a FX 5500 PCI 256MB 128 Bit (blue PCB) for a long time for around 14-16 USD, bought one in January 2018. Couldn't resist at that price just as a collector's item.
Nice! I have used the PCI variant in past projects quite a few times :D
crazy that about 12 years ago this was the first piece of PC hardware I ever bought for our family PC, and it was the same price then as now!
This was the first graphics card I ever bought. In 2004 all my friends were planning to play world of warcraft but I didn't have a gaming PC. I didn't have much money and newegg had these on clearance for $55. I picked one up and it did the job in my oem dell, barely. Was using Windows XP though.
You can also pick up a Quadro NVS 280 (PCI). The PCI version of that card is a rebadged FX 5500 with exactly the same configuration.
Except while FX 5500 is well know and expensive, Quadro NVS 280 PCI is sold for scrap. I picked one up for $5 to be used with my Socket 370 PCI-only mobo.
My first nvidia GPU. Brings back lot of memories. đđđ
When I had this card with Athlon xp 3200 cpu and played with that Medal of Honor, the memories of my youth came alive again
It was great, good luck
Thanks for comparing both Drivers. Any reason you didn't tried with the last driver you also have on your website ( 81.98 ) ?
Really cool content
Question for you: how in the world do you get that unlocked framerate in 3dmark 99? I can never get it past VSYNC, no matter what I click.
That was my first GPU ever, played a bunch of old games using it...I regret giving it to somebody but I had no choice. I didn't know it would be a big deal.
OC : PowerStrip is another program for OC on 98/XP which you should try out.
Also, I don't know if you did this on purpose... but you were changing 2D clocks and not 3D clocks in both Riva Tuner and NV driver (at least on video).
Either way : Thank you for another informative video !
Just that part of the footage was showing 2D clocks. I was trying all sorts of settings actually. Yea I use PowerStrip sometimes as well.
This was my first card, and I used it to play Spore and The Sims 2 under Windows XP! Needless to say it wasn't good lol
I actually went with the FX5500 in my Athlon 64 Windows 98 build (Gainward model, but I'm not entirely certain). I've been using it for a few weeks now, and it works pretty great, OpenGL is definitely faster, at least in Half Life, which I'm playing now. Morrowind was sort of playable, but a little laggy. I'm using the 81.98 nVidia driver, but after your video, maybe I'll give the older ones a go.
I did the same thing used the 81.98 driver and had issues, I believe the 81.98 is for Win XP, not 98. I might be wrong I'm still learning.
@@DaveM245 Same thing here about the learning stuff, but it is half the fun as they say :)
Update: I've tried 56.64. In OpenGL it is smoother by a large margin. In Direct3D however, in my case, it struggles way more than 81.98. Morrowind and Undying (in D3D) dropped to about 20 fps on average in 1024x768.
Nvidia FX is good in Open GL gamesđ
I've got one of these soley for my 98SE machines, and a Geforce 6200A for my Windows NT built (necessary for the SMP support).
Nvidia GeForce FX 5500 is a great graphics card for playing retro video games
Gonna throw an FX5500 into a socket 478 system tomorrow (Pentium 4 @ 3.06GHz with HT turned off) and install Windows 98, looking forward to seeing how it performs đ€đŒ
How did it go? I can't get direct3d to work with the drivers Phil recommends with a similar P4.
Update, I ran a clean install of 98 and then got 56.64 to work only after Direct 7 installed. Now working fine with Direct 8.1
Cool video, interesting card, so I just sniped one on ebay, they are really cheap. DX9 is nice to have but I think for 3dfx nGlide is not always the best choice for Windows 98. From my experience dgVoodoo (v1.50 Beta2) offers better performance and compatibility. And it comes with a solution for DOS games and works not only with DX9 but also with DirectX 7. Looking forward to test it with this card.
Thanks to you i fixed my fx 5200/5700 bus problem! XD
I have Quadro FX1300 which is based on FX5900 and is good videocard even for some XP gaming. Phil do you try someday Windows 2000 and compare it to 98SE and XP in perfomance?
Do you find nglide can play every glide game you have tried, or are there issues with some?
Not using the latest chipset driver is like me not using the latest firmware on my Asus DSL-N16 router. The latest firmware broke the Internet connection. I had to roll it back to get the connection back to how it was.
Too bad you didn't want to try tinkering with the bios, I was really interested in the overclocking of this card. For a 28$ card, I think it's worth it.
I managed to get like 100-200 boost in 3DMark03
Geez that Final Fantasy demo looks so good. I really want to play it that way. I wonder if there's a way to get a copy easily.
Good job buddy
Just bought one of these on fleabay to resurrect an old k6-2 450. Capacitors are swollen so looks like a solder job!
I have one of these coming from eBay now... to be paired with an uber retro build, one that hits the nostalgia mark for me... as it will duplicate something I had when young. Though not TEC cooled and massively OCd this time. An Abit VP6, 2x PIII Coppermine 1Ghz cpu's, Win2K to split the load, 1GB SDRAM (133), SB LIVE, USB 2.0 card (PCI) to go with the onboard 1.1 (4x), onboard RAID (IDE), etc.... such a good board. Caps coming as I type as well... Recapping the mobo before I even attempt to power anything up, as at least one is clearly bad. . . But yeah... I can't wait.. and this card should be overkill still yet, as it is of a later era than the PC being built really... going into an AGP 4x slot, etc. Should be good... Wanted a Voodoo 5 5500 like back in the day, but oh well... I'd rather buy a 3070 for that price, when available... lol. Honestly, some of the best prices for a V5 5500 is just under $600US... with that in mind, seeing this for $30, and it being a bit above the era needed, it was a win for sure.
Hey Phil. Some updated opengl and d3d8 drivers, should work great with various unreal games. There could be some compiler issues with win98se though, and in general with the new generation of community developers, it's all a very big mess, just like with quake games. Im thinking early opengl driver ports would be your best bet for rune, deus ex, unreal etc with the added inbuilt framerate limiter at 60 instead of forced vsync in the original drivers
That FX 5500 looks pretty easy to re-cap if need be :)
What capture card did you use to record gaming footage in this video?
Strong board i using many years in my P3 Tualatin 1400mhz
Is the active cooling really necessary or can we use a large passive cooling for this card? Thx
Oh boy a Pixel Pipe video and Phil video in the same night !
I have a FX 5700 LE, what would be a good driver version for that?
Iâve just ordered one of these for my socket 7 build
I tried the latest version of the Nvidia driver right from their website and it works better for me. The other one gave me some graphical problems. For example in Trophy Bass 4, the back side of the boat was a bunch of coloured pixels instead of the texture.
Will âNeed for Speed III: Hot Pursuitâ work on a Windows 98 machine with a GeForce FX 5200?
Does the fx5700 support these older instructions too phil?
Hi, have you thought about comparing the nforce2 soundstorm audio chip with a sound blaster audigy card?
Current prices floating around 35 dollars shipped and on ebay they ebb and flow if you see them up around 50 dollars wait until they drop below 40. I think they tend to bottom out in the high 20s so you did well with this one a year ago.
I just got one on ebay for 27 shipped and caps look good says it was tested and working guess I will know soon
so phil i have an fx5600xt and an audigy2 sound card.it is good for a retro build?love your videos, keep it up!!!greetings from greece...
I think they are good for win98.
someone left a skidmark on the gpu lol
It's either that or peanut butter!
PixelPipes hey pixelpipes!
Really cheap thermal compound from China is that color.
@@Z098 i assumed it was better cause its gold lol im a fucken idiot đ
Have the Socket 7 problems been fixed for the PCI-version or do you still need an AGP 'board for this one?
14:07 you were overclocking the 2D component. So it only works for 2D titles and a desktop. To get a performance boost in 3D games ,that you've been testing, you need to choose the 3D setting.
That was just the part of video footage I ended up using... I did set it to 3D clocks of course :)
Hello, is it the 128-bit or 64-bit memory bus width version? I was looking forward, you will make differance graph between these versions.
You left the GPU OC setting on 2D?? Is there a 3D setting in that dropdown showing 3D?
Hi Phil :), does this card work on older motherboards that only have AGP 1 X2 like the Slot 1 motherboards?. Also what is the last cards by Nvidia that supports AGP 2X and Windows 98?
my first video card.. i usually played flash games, then went to roblox. had a very slow internet back then but i didn't mind, it was very laggy which i didn't notice. then tried anjocaido minecraft... luckily it runs fine but can be better with mods such as optifine. i never had permission to buy games that was from steam so i had to play most of it. watch youtube and search stuff for school. im glad this gpu was my childhood. fx 5500 to 750 ti to 3050 8gb
Loved the video! Would you consider taking a look at the FX 5900XT under Win98, also? You can still find them at relatively decent money.
I believe I have one, it's very fast for Windows 98, you can max out AA and AF options and still get great performance.
@@philscomputerlab Looking forward to the video! Maybe a head to head with a Geforce 4 Ti?
â@@philscomputerlab After watching some of your previous videos, I ended up ordering a cedar mill Pentium4 651 SL9KE and an MSI FX5900 XT for my ultimate 98SE build. Haven't got that system up and running yet as I still need a few more components. But if possible, a comparison between nGlide and the FX5900 XT would be great to see on a cpu with a little more grunt like the 651 SL9KE.
