    I have a good amount of experience with these WX4100 cards. They are very similar to RX460. If you pair it with the right CPU you can expect something similar to steam deck running windows. It's not amazing, but many Indy titles, older games, and old console emulation run very well.

    • @aleksazunjic9672
      @aleksazunjic9672 Před rokem +3

      Just like RX-460, you could run games from PS4 era (2013-2020) with something like 1080p medium settings and expect around 40 FPS. Depends on the game, but these are results in games like Witcher 3 (before this new gen crap), Sekiro, Jedi Fallen Order, Dark Souls 3, GTA 5 etc ...

    • @bananaman8693
      @bananaman8693 Před 6 měsíci

      Once you realize how much better a deck runs in Linux, you realize how shitty windows is for gaming. The Steam deck in gaming mode is an actual beast, but in windows, not so much.

    • @greenprotag
      @greenprotag Před 6 měsíci

      @@bananaman8693 The issue with the Deck AMD chipset in windows is it was specifically made for the deck in Linux. Windows was an afterthought instead of a "co-requisite". Hardware requires drivers and optimizations. The support for that platform in windows is next to zero besides the VERY basic "make the sound and display work" introductory patches. The steam deck on windows is an uphill battle. On the other hand, the WX4100 is perfectly happy in windows and has EVEN seen updates for GAMING related drivers and AMD Adrenaline even though it is a "workstation" card. So the WX4100 may have similar power to the graphics of the deck (be it older architecture and more power hungry), but it actually has optimizations in windows.

    Did something similar to another small form factor Dell. I installed a GTX 1650, 16gb ram and a 1tb SSD drive. Also upgraded to PSU on it also to handle the extra demand. Even though technically you aren't supposed to be able to run VR games with this set up I haven't had any issues at all running HALF Life Alex in low to med settings and it still looks spectacular.

    I recently slapped together a Lenovo ThinkCentre M83 SFF (which came with 8x2gb RAM, there’s plenty of them like this) and an RX 550 4gb for just under $100. You can replicate this build at the same price easily. I recommend that over this one even though this is really cool too
    I have two other systems with a 5900/3060 and a 12100/1070 that I use for modern games so I can’t say too much about how those will perform here…
    But everything I’ve downloaded from 2017 and below has ran wonderfully on the ole RX 550 system, even Skyrim with mods lol
    There’s also a practical reason to get a cheap system like this with older hardware besides budget- a lot of older games simply run better on older parts (I’m not an expert so idk why). GTA IV is a great example. My 3060 system runs it like dog shit but the 550 is smooth as hell. This is partially due to NVIDIA driver problems but newer AMD GPUs also suffer for whatever reason.
    Only thing is that you’ll either need to get creative with cooling or leave the side panel off during gaming. GPU regularly gets up to 80C under 100% load with side panel on because it’s a shitty blower style fan and the case is suffocated
    Edit- emulation up to PS2 runs beautifully as well. PS3 is hit or miss for me

    These videos are always fun, just to show how people can get gaming for cheap.. that's a great topic for a video. I have asked before, and I will ask again.. the only one thing I would really like to see is for you guys to just explain to viewers that these PC's often come with proprietary components that can not be upgraded or replaced down the road. Yes, it's a great deal to get a 'gaming computer' for under $200, but anyone considering this should be well aware that as soon as your power supply or motherboard goes, you will basically be pulling out your GPU, RAM and CPU and then throwing the rest of it in the trash.

    The Radeon R7 450 4gb SFF/Low profile card is $24 buy it now free shipping right now. It fits perfectly into these SFF Optiplex machines. It should hold up to this card decently looking at the specs. It doesn't look as cool but it's better than this card. I don't understand why they would pay so much more for a card that isn't any better. The 450s are easily had for $30 or under. You can get an RX 550 4gb card for $47 free shipping. Even cheaper if you hunt around. It's all about having that true single slot, SFF bracket, low profile card that doesn't draw too much power. The WX 4100 does draw 10 or 15 less watts than the 450 but no issues running them on the Optis so far.
    Just popped one in literally yesterday and another is on the way. This will be the 14th optiplex build I have done for friends/family. All coming to $130 or less depending on RAM upgrades or GPU. My little cousin (4th gen i5, 16gb ram and a kingston 256gb SSD R7 4500 4gb is running GTAV on fairly decent settings 60fps-90fps no problem and he's running fortnite without issue too. Pretty cool he's able to game like that for just $110. I got a bunch of random monitors from over the years that people are tossing out or giving away stocked up too. A local hairdresser had their business computer stolen and my neighbor donated $150 to put together a setup for them and they're all setup again thanks to these cheap optiplex machines. So far not a single issue with any of them believe it or not. This is what makes PC gaming cool. You can put a system fully together for so cheap and play modern games and have a plenty powerful system for home theater pc or office use.
    Have they done a video with the Dell Radeon cards? You can even get a 430 2gb card for $13 free shipping. I haven't had a single issue with any of the cards but they're all from the same seller.

    Those numbers with the GPU in Val could well be correct. I've seen someone get 150-180 fps in Val with the integrated graphics on like a 12th gen i5/i7 or something. Very CPU-based game from my experience too. Upgrading from a 3600 to a 5700x gave me WAY more fps increase in this game than I got from upgrading my 2060S to a 4070 more recently. The generalised "spend half your budget on the GPU" advice that some people give out is sometimes misleading. For someone wanting to play Val or CS at 1080p competitive settings, you really want to spend about as much money on your CPU as your GPU almost.

      @@freedomearthmoon1 Yeah I would basically recommend anyone wanting a PC to just build it themselves from mainly new parts (maybe 2nd hand GPU). There's so many tutorials on how to build a PC now. New gen i5s or AM4 Ryzen 5 are so affordable now. RAM has come down loads. SSDs are dirt cheap. There's some great budget cases. You can get an RX580 or some 16series card 2nd hand. For a couple hundred more you can actually build yourself a CURRENT gen, Win11 capable PC that can handle 1080p gaming fairly decently.

      3rd or 4th gen xeon would run circles around that 6500 in terms of 1% lows. there is no need to go past 3rd or 4th gen when the older i7s are better than more modern i5s.

    • @yeetus59
      @yeetus59 Před rokem

      The 6th gen i5 6500 will mop the floor with a 3rd or 4th gen xeon, what do you mean? Unless you have the hyperthreaded xeon, than no shit, those are basically just i7's, they're equivalent to a 3770/4770. This i5 supports DDR4, the xeons do not. The 1% are bad because they're using 8gb of ram (they literally said that in the video if you listened) and it's probably only single channel. The i5 6500 paired with dual channel 2133mhz will outpace the older xeons in every game. At least the 4 core non hyperthreaded ones.

      Good card, but not for an older sandy bridge optiplex. Sometimes they don’t like the bios and won’t work without tweaking, or just not work. Then there is the bandwidth limitation. One of these WX4100 is basically the magic card for those SFF Dells, other than one or 2 single slot 1650 models which are basically unobtainable.
