The Line 6 HX Stomp is a compact modeling/FX unit from the Line 6 Helix family of processors. The HX Stomp is a board-friendly 3-switch multi effects guitar pedal. You can use the HX Stomp as a standalone travel guitar rig thanks to a fully loaded modeling and FX engine to front load a guitar amp, or use it as a capable audio interface with reamping capabilities. With the Line 6 HX Stomp you can choose up to six blocks - amps, cabs, and stomps - per preset and assign switches to suit your particular needs.
The Line 6 HX Stomp comes complete with 126 user presets for guitars, bass, and keys, equipping you for any real-world gigging application. The Line 6 HX Stomp has tons of I/O, which include TRS balanced outs, traditional MIDI switching, an FX return for 4-cable amp integration, and a 2-channel expansion jack for expression pedals or additional external switches. Following Line 6 Helix's lead, the Line 6 HX Stomp boasts three capacitive touch footswitches to make editing and recalling presets easier than ever. Simply touch the switch you want to adjust on the HX Stomp, make the necessary changes, and save. To keep track of your tones and changes, Line 6 outfitted each of the switches on the HX Stomp with bright color-coded LEDs. No matter how dark or bright the stage is, you'll always know what function each HX Stomp footswitch is controlling.

Got wind of this earlier today and instantly emailed my sales engineer. My HX Stomp has already shipped. I've been a Helix user since the first shipment and this is going to be great for travel and to quickly grab and take to the jam.
Absolute gamechanger! What an amazing piece of gear. I own a Helix and I still might get one of these, just SO many uses!
would you say that the tone quality (detail, richness, organic, non-sterile) is good a pro recording? like something you would hear on the radio .
Sounds monstrously good...Great job Andy
I own the Helix Floor and Native, and I gotta say, this thing looks AMAZING. I think it opens up the quality of Helix modeling to a lot of people who may not be able to afford the full Helix floor or LT, which is great. Obviously, some of us are still going to need the full DSP, loops, exp pedal and other features of the full Helix, but this fills a great niche. I think either this or an HX Effects is an absolute must for any pedal board at this point. Even as an owner of the floor, I can think of reasons to own this myself, and probably will at some point.

He got a metal arm.
Iâve been thinking it would be nice if line6 put out a smaller footprint with just the amp/cab options for an option for HX users or pedal board users who want the helix amp/cab sims without the larger footprint. This is the next best thing!
Whenever I see Andy I think âNo Country for Old Menâ

Thanks for the video - I would have liked a longer demonstration of the effects.
You said it, tone is the word.
Tones demo at 9:26.

Thanks a lot bro
Still can't understand how can you connect two exp pedal to a one input jack.
"Four cable method." I never knew it was called that. I used to do this with my Mesa 50 Caliber+ and my Digitech 2112. I had my choice of tube gain from the amp plus effects or tube gain and/or solid state gain from the 2112. It was great but eventually the 2112 got wonky. I think it has a bad S-disk. It's a big old paper weight right now.
Im looking to get the HX Stomp and use it ONLY for the poly capo function to be controlled by midi. My question is this...is there enough DSP to run 2 poly capo's at the same time? Keep in mind i wont be running any other FX from it at all.
so the effects loop counts as a block? Does the noise gate also count as a block?
Where do I get the Helix t-shirt?
Yes, I need that one too :-)
I assume I could run this along side the HX effects and use midi switching on one to control the other?
Daniel Bell yes
Thanks for the video! I am a keyboard player and a Line6 product user since the DL-4. In 95% of the cases, I am using the Low Resolution (lores) delay. In the DL-4 and M9, you can create very nice soundscapes by simultaneously tweaking the tone and res knobs. In both the DL-4 and M9, those two knobs are directly accessible from the tweak knobs. However, in the HX Effects, you have to switch between two menus to tweak those two parameters, meaning you can never really tweak them simultaneously. I was so dissapointed when I discovered that and now all my hopes are on the HX Stomp. Can you please check whether you can tweak the tone and res parameters simultaneously using the tweak knobs on the HX Stomp? That information would be valuable to me! Thanking you in advance!
Hey, Matty! For that particular reverb in the HX stomp, those two parameters are indeed on different pages of parameters and as such, cannot be tweaked simultaneously. Admittedly, as HX Stomp has encoders and not knobs, the tweak-on-the-fly behavior of traditional do-one-thing pedals does not work well within the confines of boxes that have 300+ models in them. It would be possible to assign those two controls to an external MIDI controller's encoder knobs, if you have access to one. I can explain more about that if you would like to call me. Thanks for your interest!

anyone know what that patch was at the intro? IR? or the amp/cab models?
Always wanted a helix cause the amp models sound amazing but I'm not a guitar player who uses effects. Thank God this finally came out, the Amplifire is great but it isn't widely available and I think the Line 6 models sound better anyway. Here's hoping Line 6 finally releases a Super Reverb model.
Hey, so I am seriously considering an HX stomp and I would like to implement it into my board and use both effects and amp capabilities on it, so Is it possible to put the stomp in the middle of my chain, having other pedals run after the stomp and have the last pedal come back into the stomp for only the "amp "?
Desired Chain:
Volume pedal -- > Jackson audio prism -- > Yara Compressor -- > Hx stomp(only effects) -- > Timmy -- > Scarlett love overdrive -- > Timeline -- > Bigsky -- > Back into the stomp(only amp)
Thanks!!
Hello, Byron! The HX Stomp has send/return jacks so you just need to add one of those blocks in your preset. It also works 4 cable method (4CM) mode and even has presets marked and ready for you to use with a standard amp. To use the internal amp in those presets, just add the amp/cab block of your choice at the end of the chain.

Totally going to get one
Love it! And that Yamaha guitar is great too!
Looks and sounds like a great pedal. Interesting to see him playing a Yamaha Pacifica guitar, a highly overlooked axe. I have a $175.00 cheapest version that I love despite the fact that I have a number of high end instruments. Price can go up on these babies, as well.
Joe Mystery Yamaha bought line6. Thatâs why youâll be seeing them use more and more Yamaha guitars with line6 products.
@@andrewjackson9654 Wow, I did not hear about that. Yamaha is so big they are eating all the smaller fish up. Thanks for the information Abc...
Joe Mystery I donât think line6 was a small fish but I guess Yamaha is bigger and now even bigger than before. It looks like they come up with better stuff imo. Like the overlooked Yamaha 100hd modeler is IMO the best modeler in sound and feel and simple to use. It was overlooked due to the price. It has 2 amps going at the same time. Itâs great. Itâs just that you donât need a computer to use it which is great. I hate being connected to a computer for guitar. You just plug it into a regular guitar cabinet. Blackstar seemed to have taken their idea too of picking what type of tube amp sound you want. Yet Blackstar is huge.Yamaha is small. And choice of A, A/B etc. if u do connect it to a computer you can choose boost, ocd, or tube screamer. I chose what it came with and it sounds great. Two Marshall at the same time is great or one clean one high gain they have several choices. Solid state, clean, crunch, tube, high gain. And if you want you can add in a pedal externally which I donât need. And the helix is way better than the hd300 thatâs collecting dust in my closet. It always had a volume issue. It would blast real loud from one preset to the next no matter how many times Iâd save a preset. It is still good for someone who wants to buy for less. Iâll eventually put it up for sale.
can you do a video for bass too?
Almost as good as the Kemper and Axe FX for less than half the cost! The new Headrush portable is the competition.
here's a weird question: can you run an expression pedal and a footswitch in the exp input with a Y cable?
yes
Why is there no XLR out in the HX Stomp?
Can it generate âfeedbackâ without or with an amp, please ?
How easy is it to load your own IRs?
Hi guys, great video, sorry for being ignorant. I'm a singer guitar player (mainly playing arpeggios, and rhythmic guitar. I usually use clean and crunch or the combination crunch and distortion. Now, my questions are, can I build up presets for each of my songs (with different effects for each song) and easily on stage being able to scroll down from one preset to another or actually in a live situation there would be any sort of issue? Also, according to the gig set list, can I program easily ahead the sequence of each song I have to play according to a different gig where we play different set lists? Thanks a lot for your help! Fran
Hey, I-Morse! Great questions. Yes, you can set up your presets for each song in your setlist and cycle through them during your set. I recommend saving your presets in the order of your setlist because it will make it much easier to go from one to another. You could reorganize your presets for gigs if you use a different setlist, or you could save them to a different set of banks. For example, if you have a few variations of your set, you could just save each set sequence to a different location in the Stomp since you have 126 preset slots.
I hope this helps! Feel free to reach out to me if you have any questions.

Can you control variax?
Is this as good as the Pod Go? Iâm so conflicted someone help me!!!
Does the expression out give the option for external tap tempo?
Hello, Robin! Based off of what I can gleam from the manual, I do not believe so. You can sync the tempo via MIDI, or set it with the third button. So, if you have another pedal that has tap tempo on it, and you connect that to the HX Stomp via MIDI, you could set the tap tempo externally. The EXP 1/2 can take a momentary type switch that you can assign certain parameters to, but I'm not seeing in the manual that you can assign tempo to that. It works mostly as an on/off or min/max switch:

Iâm very fear ignorant, would this be an appropriate solution for playing guitar with headphones? If so, what headphones would be best? Studio monitoring phones?
I wish there was a way to hear my Princeton chorus through headphones so my wife doesnât leave me. This has a simulation of that yes?
Does this have a looper/phrase sampler like the HX Effects/DL4??

Would this be the best option for an apartment amp? Just run it through my laptop?
Hi, Sean. The HX Stomp does make a great home/apartment practice option. It has amp modeling and effects built in, and can be run to either a computer, an amp, or just listened to through headphones.

2ndDayRiffs same hoping that i could be just 400-450 usd haha but still 600 like the hx effects sad
Yeah, I'm not paying 600 dollars for a bastarized version of a helix.... I mean you can get a used Helix LT for $800..... So besides the size being nice for travelling, etc. You are losing A LOT for only saving $200. Makes no sense, it would if it were 400 or so and had more effects at once.
@@Zordid0 I guess the best thing is to get a used HX Stomp
Are the amp models the same quality and logarithms as the helix
Yes
Guys, need an advice here, this or bias amp the desktop software? I already have an audio interface, and will be playing in my bedroom mostly.
Kien Nguyen then rather bias
Just use free lepou amps and and IR loader. Bias is fine but definitely not worth the money.
You can use helix native software, just make sure you have the right specs for it.
I just got mine today. Can I turn off that blinking Tap Light? It's really annoying while I play.
Hello, Anna! Yes, that can be turned off via the setting Knob 2 (Tap Tempo LED), which can be found within Global Settings under Displays.
I hope that helps!

@@sweetwater Thank you.
Another dreamy Line 6 product which would tempt me like crazy - only it appears not to be equipped with a battery compartment. What are they thinking?
Just run 9v power supply, who even uses batteries??
Because itâs not a toy, junior.
Then, neither is a sport utility vehicle, Stringprodigy, even though I suspect more than half the people who own and drive one treat it like a toy.
ShreadTheWeapon dumb comparison. Try again
I donât have to do anything, Stringprodigy. Iâm not the one with an attitude problem. What is the point of compacting so much horsepower into a little box like that and not equip it with a battery pack just like an automobile? Thatâs probably 50% of the enjoyment of having a stump box!
Does anyone knows if this pedal can be use as midi controller?
Hi, TFH! The HX Stomp has MIDI I/O, which will allow it to send patch commands to another device, or be controlled by a larger switching system. Thanks for your interest!

Is it possible to use without amps /cabs simulation?
Hello, Raul! Good question, thanks for asking! The beauty of the HX platform is the ability to configure about any combination of effects you like up to the limit of six (and not exceeding the DSP limit). So if you want to use it as a multiFX processor for only time domain (delay/reverb), you can. Or boosts and fuzz, you can! The limit is your imagination.
Please contact me direct if I didn't answer your question completely or accurately.

how is this for going straight to headphones?
Hey, bomtom! If you go straight out of the headphone output on the side of this unit it works great. You just need to make sure your headphones have a 1/4" connector, or get an adapter if needed. Thanks for your interest!

So how can I make it where I have 3 presets but also a tuner ? Like I want a rhythm lead and clean by each footswitch how would I use the tuner ?
no tuner for you
MIDI, probably. Get something like the Morningstar MC6.
You could probably have clean to rhythm by connecting an expression pedal or footswitch?
Or buy a separate tuning pedal to put before this in your chain.
Everyone above except Ryan is right, but there's another option: using the snapshots feature you can navigate between three different settings in the same preset with no latency. There's a "scroll" footswitch mode that will let you scroll between presets or snapshots (and with snapshots, since there are only three, you can access any one from any other one in this mode). this frees up footswitch 3 for tap/tuning functionality.
Can I swich btw clean/dist channel of my real amp with this thing?
Hello, Mario! There might be a way to set that up with the MIDI out/thru if your amp has a MIDI in on it, but otherwise no.
Thanks for the interest!

Such deep creamy tone.. and Iâm not talking about the stomp! đ
Possible to run this wet dry wet with an actual amp head?
Hi, Dan! Happy New Year, and here to assist. Using this load box allows you to feed your dry cab and send a line level signal to the HX where you can then feed two combos or power amp or heads in full stereo:
www.sweetwater.com/store/detail/POWERHOUSE8--mesa-boogie-powerhouse-reactive-amp-load-attenuator-8-ohm
You could feed the front of three amps from the HX by splitting the signal internally, one out from the FX loop, and the other side of the split going out in L/R stereo. Not as pure a sound, but a legit option.

Will you make a video with iPad, this as an audio interface?
I've heard John Brown playing through a rack mounted Helix and it souded great.
Why does the cali-something preset sound so crappy in this video ???
khargrar n'rhan a preset is only as good as the person who programs it
wonder can you load in IRs? in amp and cab block also I believe someone said you can move blocks is that all blocks?
not sure if I get your question, but there's no fixed place in the signal flow for any of the amps/cabs/effects. You can have anything in any order you want.
Can this just run straight through a PA?
Hi, Greg. Yes, the HX Stomp works in a lot of cool configurations, but one of the easiest and best sounding is when going straight from the unit into a PA system. When doing this, you get the most transparent sound of the full signal chain available in the HX Stomp. If you're only using the effects on the unit, and not the amp and cabinet modeling, the sound quality will not be that good when plugged right into a PA. If you have any other questions, please feel free to contact me anytime. Thanks for the interest!

And will Line 6 ignore it like they did with my Firehawk FX?
For sure
I hope fractal will release this kind of thing for a cheaper price without sound compromisation. That would be so cool.
Yeah... I got that Firehawk. They still make it but no updates. I bought the Helix, and had about 10 pedals in front of and looped within a month.

Good video. But still they got along way to go before they can replace valves
What software can I use to edit effects
Brandon Williams you just edit it. No external software needed. You could hook it up to a computer if you want and edit it on the screen if you want.
That almost makes it sound as though it is as easy to maneuver as my first Pod model, the XT lLve. I managed to create all of my own sounds from its front panel, and I never even bothered downloading the editor.
Wish it had a xlr
Yoo that dude sounds like jim root
