The way Lee is using it is EXACTLY why i bought one. I replaced a chorus and a rotary pedal, plus now have a phaser, whammy and anything else I would ever use.
The user default setting is very clever! When it comes to value, Line 6 is at the top of the chain! This is the H9 at half the cost. Knowing that they are always creating new effects and adding them for free gives you confidence in the longevity of the product.
I love how Lee is not buying it at first but being absolutely polite with the Line 6 guy, and slowly digging in to it.
Sincerely, Paul is absolutely FANTASTIC. Love every Andertons video with him.
🎉🎉🎉
I absolutely love my HX One. It's the centrepiece of my board - I loved my M5, and this expands on it in just about every way possible.
As an HX Stomp user, I can say with certainty that every sound on that pedal is worth it. I'm just not sure who the product is 'for', when the Stomp is such incredible value
It's simple. It's for people who don't want a modeler
@@Yamallama585but the thing obviously has the same chip as a stomp, just don't use the amps if you don't want to use them. Sad this was crippled
@@zipporaid here's the thing. This pedal works perfectly for me because I don't want a modeler
@@Yamallama585 well unfortunately you're in the minority because here they are doing a paid promo half a year after release.
Also would it actually change your usage if there was an "amp" section in the effects folders? How so?
I agree I much prefer the stomp to these, this is way too limiting to me
GREAT demo, Lee!... I absolutely loved the " I can do it, I can DO IT!!!"!!!😸
The HX One is amazing! I was looking for a multi effects, and almost pulled the trigger on the Walrus Audio M1....but then the HX One released. It's amazing. I'm using it with the 4 cable method so I can have presets go before or after my preamp.
I immediately thought of the Eventide H9, which does the same thing for Eventide Effects. I have an HX Effects, but it is too big for some situations, so a single size would be perfect.
I saw the value of these and grabbed one when they were on sale shortly after release. If you like Line6 effects then this is a no brainer.
Great demo. Purchased one months ago. It's like a better version of the m5. Match this with a H9 and your set up will shine.
I have mine in the loop of H90. There's nothing I cannot do
the greatest thing about the captain is that he doesn't fack around. the point of things are always important. and if he disagrees he's being possibly as nice about it as a man can be. O7 hats off
Paul's a good spud and a fab player. Good to see him again.
Line 6 is just on fire. I'm not the customer for this because I have a Helix now, but when this came out, I understood it immediately. This what you buy when you're not REALLY a pedal guy, but there's always a couple songs in your set that need that one effect for a small portion of a song. They named this pedal perfectly.
I think it's a fine product, but the pricing is a bit steep when you look at other helix products. With the stomp or above you've got all the snapshots per preset so you won't need this, and I think for the extra money, the stomp is a no-brainer given you get access to all the amps, cabs/IR's and the additional discount off Helix native.
I was thinking this. It's an HX Stomp with 1/8th of the capabilities for 2/3 of the price. It made more sense to hear the fellow explain it, but still...
Plus you can get an HX Stomp used for not much more extra money
They aren't making these for people who need, want or even care about amp modelling. He was very clear who this is aimed at, it's the people looking to replace two or three pedals with a compact enclosure. That market is probably huge and considering this is the price of one really good dedicated delay, tremolo or chorus pedal, the price makes sense too. I can see that even if this product doesn't appeal to me/us.
@@chrisdavies9143 I know who this is for, but if I where on a market for a similar tool, I would probably go to a cheaper solution or wouldn't bother and get the HX stomp for just a little extra: could do everything this can do and so much more (even if I'm not planning on using all of the features) and taking just a it extra real estate. Hopefully for line6 buyers will think differently!
@@etienne4993 I bought an HX stomp for $500. It was a no-brainer.
I have an old school M9 that I use for nothing but “one-off” effects. I would LOVE to see an M9MKII. I know the HXFX, but it’s too big, and has a much different control interface. I mean a true M9 upgrade. You can literally set and forget. It’s a masterpiece of design in many cases.
Isn’t this basically the “M9 MK2”
@@RICO_SUAVE21 Meh. 🤷♂️ Way different interface. Bigger too. I meant a true 1 for 1 drop in, upgrade. Same size, same layout, etc.
I’ve been on the fence with this pedal for awhile now. I think I’m sold and the 4 cable method really makes this usable for me👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻
When this was released I thought, "Why would anyone buy this over an HX Stomp?". The answer is, because of people like Lee. 🙂 Some people really just love pedals and amps.
This guy gets it when seemingly half the comments section doesn't
Everybody who sells them for a living “loves” pedals and amps.
Because it’s smaller
But why would I pick this over the MIDI enabled Line6 M5 that's considerably cheaper?!?
@@CSGmusical M5 is great value but the HX One has much better effects. I've tried both and you wouldn't use the legacy effects in M5 if you had access to the newer HX effects.
Given that two of these pedals would be £100 more than a full HX stomp, this is a very strange value proposition.
Yes, you might want to keep most of your sound the same and only swap the one effect, but HX stomp presets allow you to do that too.
then buy a hx effects, you at least have the scrible, 9 FX at the same time and six buttons.
Got mine for bass. Great pedal & a great deal from Anderton’s ❤
Tuner plus all the pedals I want to use one at as time with my OC5 & 2 Notes Revolt for my rock perfect pedalboard
I can totally see the appeal from a minimalistic standpoint. I don’t always like setting up complex patches. It’d be nice having a device that just *does a thing* without a bunch of extra features.
The interface looks really easy to use too.
I use an M5 for exactly this reason
My thoughts entirely, for a third of the cost. Philip McKnight swears by the M5 - his fav pedal
Has a happy user of the m5, I am curious about de quality difference between M5 and HX one. Around 90 euros on the used market...i mean...
I like the f10 and the E60
@@ivorharden - I like the D-35. Acoustics are less faff
@@nedludd3641 okayy
love the concept - for people like me it avoids the dreaded choice paralysis
I tested multiple HX One units and when configured in 4CM with an amp that has higher preamp gain, each unit had an unacceptable noise floor to the point it was unusable. When placed either before the amp or in the loop, the units were fine. In order to operate in 4CM however, the unit has to be placed in buffered bypass mode and that’s where the bump in noise occurs. I tested this with multiple amps with the same results. How this was overlooked in a unit introduced in 2024 and touted as a 4CM solution is perplexing at best. This is a widely reported issue on multiple gear forums and on Line6’s community page as well. Note this is NOT a ground loop issue.
Is this with the noise gate on? I was hoping to use this as a pedal that sits on both sides of the amp to tap into different effects on a one off basis but my setup is already noisy as is
@@skukeness6201 yes. Entire noise floor is raised obnoxiously with buffered bypass in 4CM, which is the only option, if you are working with a gainy amp.
Always great to see Paul!
And the HX One......want it!
My god. You can dive bomb a fix bridge just like the Paul Gilbert Airplane Flanger.!
Flux mode is great for runaway delay sounds, like at the end of a passage. Think end of Karma Police.
£199 or £220 and this would have sold like hot cakes. £300 just seems a bit too steep ....
ah but when a strymon pedal comes out all the snobs justify it.
I bought my full HX Effects used for 285. Ridiculous pricing for a one tap pedal, no matter how much good stuff is locked inside it.
Or you can look at it from the point of view that most pedals cost around $200 or so just for one effect. At least with this you have many for the price of about two pedals (give or take.) Only thing about that is you can only use one effect at any given time which kinda sucks.
I dunno, plenty of people spend £200 plus on an overdrive. That's one effect.
@@Dirnkus_Ginish Correct, but you can only have ONE effect on at any given time which kinda sucks.
I'm sold
I love how Lee isn’t trying to sell it to his customers but is weighing up whether he wants to buy it 😂
So, this is the M5 v2?
I'm not sure where everyone's getting their pricing from. In the U.S., the Stomp is more than double the HX One. $699.99 for the Stomp, $299.99 for the HX One.
The Stomp also has 8 blocks which makes it $87 per block
@@kez850
By a Stomp then 🤷🏻♂️...
there are people who only want the FX for a Synth and such things.
Great product, especially for those using midi. I do wish the screen was better though, it does feel a bit 1990's. Excellent FX though
The screen is too small and it’s especially a problem when trying to cycle through the patches. You need a MIDI capable switched of some sort (another piece of gear to buy…)
For me, it was down to this or the Plethora X3. In the end, the price difference wasn't enough to sway me to the HX One. That said, I wish tap tempo was better implemented in the X3. HX sounds wonderful, though. Horses for courses.
If you could use at least 2 effects simultaneously, I would be all in. I also understand the manufacturer's perspective that we (players/customers) always cry about needing one more feature, but in this case with a pedal that can do SOOOOO MANY things, I really feel like it needs to do 2 effects simultaneously.
Or three or four or uh oh it’s the hx stomp😁
I like it, but only being able to use one effect at a time is too limiting for me. I’ll stick with a GT1000 core or HX Stomp on my board with my analog pedals. It’s still compact, has just as many effects, and you can have numerous effects on simultaneously.
On Lee's point about the slow filter effect: that sound is amazing for a mellow lead through LOADS of delay and reverb.
One problem though is the location on the board. The before or after a certain pedal. A delay or reverb you want at the end of the signal chain. While a drive or fuzz you want at the beginning. So where do you place it? Prefer the HX Stomp with the FX Loop.
Have been looking pretty seriously at this.. been using the helix for some time as my pedal board (don’t need the amp sim often)
But I’m finding myself drawn back to my small pedal board, but great not to give up the versatility the helix has given me
Mine hasn't been turned off since I got it a couple months ago. Almost too many effects - you can get lost playing with all the different sounds.
I'll stick with my dinosaur DOD analog delay , it may be an antique but it still sounds fantastic
I’ve got one of these. It’s a great pedal. Must have increased in price as mine was £250.
You dont neer midi to switch through patches. You can get a double tap tempo type footswitch and then you can scroll through presets
But with Midi, in a live situation, you can auto-switch effects and parameters automatically...
This pedal sounds incredible and has everything.
So nice to see Lee using a different amp. Tone is so much better through the deputy
Never get a rock sound out of these dudes, super light rockers looking for a U2 soundbox.
I have a pretty large pedalboard that I'm very happy with but this is perfect for someone who doesn't want or need an overly complicated & bulky multi effects unit but would love the occasional "wild card" sound. Sold.
Even the Zoom MS70 CDR can have more than one effects & costs much less & sounds good too.... Typical example of a company "milking" its market...
Exactly...
yeah, I was hoping this model has at least the cab sims...but no. My MS70 will stay.
My Mas 50 & 70 sit on the board and that gives me up to 12 seperate effects.
@@jimmyjimmy951 And i bet, both of yr Zoom MS pedals, cost almost the same with that Line 6 HX One....
@@lankududniteshift Both my pedals were bought used, so around $200Au for both. You can pick the 50 up new for around $160 Au . Bargain IMO given it’s capability.
How are the quality of the effects compared to the Valeton GP200?
Looks great, sounds great, very tempted. Think it could do with a bigger screen though?
I have a ZOOM MSG-50 for the same reason. Advantage to the Zoom is it can be used with a single or up to 6 effects at a time. $100 Au makes it good value option. 👍🇦🇺
I get the point of the pedal, different from the zoom option (which look and sound great too), i guess I'm going to have to try before I buy 😊
2 effects at a time for 300 ish bucks would've been nice. Since the M5 already exists and it is under 200. I am not looking for 15 stacked, just 2...helps mimic some pretty cool pedals.
I’d like to suggest a new model called the HX 3 that can do 3 effects simultaneously For the basics players like me for example my main 3 effects that I actually use are boost/ overdrive reverb and subtle modulated delay
Have you considered the TC Electronic Plethora X3 ?
I'd like to suggest just buying three effects then 🤷♂️
A few years ago, I probably would have gotten this. I have an HX Stomp and other than the power draw, which really isn't an issue, it's great. I like to make 'complex' effects. Just like a pitch and delay that go on and off together. I made a pretty good sitar-ish sound. Things like that. But I think this is a pretty killer pedal if you just need that sometimes effect. Or for inspiration to not have to tear your board apart.
didn't know this existed until this video and it turns out to be perfect for me. I have my gain stages and a delay I love, but sometimes I just want something extra. Depending on my mood or on a song. HOWEVER. I received mine yesterday and I really love most of the effects.... only, this one has to go back because turning the effects knob sometimes causes to freeze the entire pedal. Anyone else having issues with this?
I think it's a cool idea! Just a Wildcard pedal! Or your only pedal! 👍
How would I use the Helix One in the effects loops of the Fender Tone Master Pro and have the TMP switch effects on the helix via midi?
Yes , screen is small but it is forgiving since it has midi capabilities.. that is why I am interested
So, it's basically the TC Electronics Plethora, but it's smaller, has more effects, and gets regular firmware updates.
Get a Zoom MS-70CDR (Regular or + version) if you don't need MIDI and be happy with it on your board for a fraction of the price of the HX One.
Its realy a good and useful unit!
Loved the infamous Lee Riff at the beginning 😂
I do like how they are doing this with his actual pedalboard and an actual representative of Line6. Like that can be a whole show: The "Sell me this pedal" show.
The Rep actually has to convince the host to make it a part of their main rig.
They can't just talk about how great it is and then not use it.
Could just as well be Lee as the shop owner trying to sell a pedal to a guest artist on the show.
Hindmarsh in the house!
Boss MD200 does it since 2019… and you can have for some effects 2 at a time , vibe+fuzz, phaser+drive…
Great tone gurning from the Wizard of Oz
I don't understand why they didn't make this just the amp and IR section of the Stomp. Could use the switches to go through the presets or switch between two snapshots. Give it a parallel XLR out, make it 220 bucks and it'd fly off the shelves.
I retired my two M5s a while ago, just went another route 😁 Can't help feel that this is too complicated and expensive for me, and anyone with a Helix or similar will probably have too much overlap in functions. M5 still available at half the price and for occasional use makes more sense to me at least. Whatever, sounded great, it's just not for me 😃
I used to have a Zoom Multistomp before, which is the cheapest of this kind of multi-fx I think. I used it as a wildcard pedal, for the effect that I’d only use on one song in a set list (eg. Leslie Sim).
The only con that one has is it degrade overall sound whether or not it’s engaged.
I heard that they released a new multistomp already. I might check it out too.
Oh and Eventide H90 is probably under the same category I think.
Yep I'm using MS-70CDR and think the same. It is very handy but suck the tone quite a bit.
So it is a more modern version of the XTOMP. Got one sounds fine. Works fine just don’t seem to use it.
I don't like the idea of multiple effects in 1 pedal. But I really like Lee's guitar!
How come? Care to elaborate?
For how much is in it the price seems fair especially considering the high end effects pedals that coat the same or more and only do one type of effect. That being said I can't really see a use case myself unless you just like to tey one effect at a time and want one pedal that does everything then it's a good investment
The big thing is that it has the variable impedence so if you are an HX effects user, you can throw this thing in front and now you can use the fuzzes.
The question is, how does it differ from the TC Plethora X3?
75% more Helix
Well that's answered right from the start : it does 1 effect at a time instead of 3
....or the M5?
Point being, the X3 is small enough to used exactly like the HX one but gives more options.
@@beepoz fair point, although the X3 is still about one mini pedal bigger overall and a different orientation, two characteristics that may be of importance to some if the idea, as they point out, is to keep things super compact without ditching your favorite pedals, then use the HX for the odd one-off effect per song. Tiny differences sure, still often times a deciding factor in my humble experience.
Hello Mr Hindmarsh. Nice to see you. 🎸👍🏻
What are the latency? It's can be quite important if it ends on a board with other digital products, as this sums up 🙂
I feel like I would play with this endlessly for days and then settle on like 4 different sounds I like.
As far as design, I'd like a larger screen so that it's easier to see when you are standing, and also that would allow each parameter to actually show up above the knobs.
I hope they a release a pedal in this size and form factor, but with the Helix amps.
So it got some Overdrive also can you combine the different effects together got it
That desin, wood be AMAZING as looper❤❤❤
I feel like the effects are hit and miss. Like some can easily replace pedals, but then there are effects like Wah, whammy and some distortion effects where they miss the mark. I have it on my pedal board to avoid having a bunch of modulation pedal. Anyone else struggling with wah or whammy sounding as good as pedals?
i can't get the looper to work in my unit, it starts recording and stops fine, but pressing and holding to cancel what was recorded last, doesn't work, also is there any way to use the tap/flux switch in a useful way on the looper?
The jam at the end with the delay effect was kind of sick. It got a bit crazy toward the end, but the beginning sounded cool. It’s an interesting concept. Sadly I’m a cheap bastard and would probably go with a multi fx pedal.
NOT a fan of digital multi FX . . . bit I think I need one of these !!!
What is that orange goober looking thing to the right, by the decibel meter. Product video please!
This reminds me of the Hotone Xtomp concept from several years ago.
Asking prices for products like this are getting silly I mean look at the new Strymon reverb it's like £700
It's a smaller hx effects with limitations.
Boss got to be working on a GX-100CORE by now!
Or even just the Katana effect section in a pedal.
I’m sure it will help on all those gigs you do.
Is the orange protuberance on top the amp stack to the right what I think it is?
If it did 3 effects at once, or maybe even 2 I might consider it. But only 1, kinda pointless cus i already have a stomp & midi controller.
Cool product but they either need to lower the price by $100 or give it multiple blocks to line up with their other effects units. My guess is they’re testing the waters and will eventually do one or both of those things in the future.
Is there a HX Two with TWO effects at a time? That would be even better😄
It's called an hx stomp
This is interesting as a swiss-army knife but still not simple enough. I guess that's the Line6 style. Seems like whenever a company makes this type of pedal there are tons of menus or there is an app involved for loading new effects. Like at a gig are you going to scroll through a long menu from the rotary-speaker to the reverse delay past 100 presets? Or are you going to get your phone out on stage and use an app over Bluetooth or flash a tone print into the pedal? Dreaming here but make it dead simple with one switch and a clicky rotary dial, the player could load 6 presets beforehand and then between songs you just have to turn a dial to a different spot.
Looking forward to the comments about what pedals already do what I am describing. Hopefully they exist.
Is this not a rehash of the M5, M13 and M9 with arguably better quality effects?
Now if they'd just do a 'HX Amp' version of this with stereo out, I'd be all ears...
Give us the HX One+One and I'd be ALL IN.
These types of pedals have been done before, and didn't go down well ?
