    Thank you @futurerustanddust for letting me borrow your lovely duoface. The reverso is a model I've wanted to film and highlight for years now. So this was a particularly special opportunity. If you are on Instagram please give Greg (futurerustanddust) a follow. In the comments, please share what your favorite reverso model is.

    JLC, for me the greatest of all the watchmakers. Historically have manufactured every type of movement & have supplied movements for the so called Holy Trinity. The Reverso is an Art Deco masterpiece.

      Agree- I got a cheap Geckota beads of rice bracelet and half a dozen quick release coloured suede straps and it dresses down fantastically. In the summer with white trainers/sneakers, shorts and T shirt, on a pale blue suede strap I was getting nice comments daily from people which I never usually get on watches.

    I have to say Bruce I just love this watch. I have the exact same model I got a while back, if anything this watch has so far stopped me looking at another rectangular watch as it just does it all for me. It also flies under the radar as most people have no idea what it is.
    The Reverso Duoface small seconds isn't just light vs dark face though, the dials are the reverse of each other in that the light face revolves around angles with a smooth outer rectangle frame around the guilloche style inner, the dark face is the opposite not just that the smooth area is now inside and the texture on the outside the dark face uses circular surrounds instead of rectangles.
    The 40ish hour power reserve doesn't bother me, I wind mine at the same time each day (as I do with other manual mechanical watches) and perish the thought If it isn't wound it's so easy to set anyway being sans date. Winding is super easy and as you say is quite satisfying action. Having a minute track cut at six is fine with me as well as it would destroy that classic dial. You are right that there are times when reflections can reduce readability certainly when looking at the dark side but as a classic watch I'm not sure it really is a must have for me anyway. It's good you point out the QC problems, my example looks pretty good under a loupe to my old eyes but as you state most watches have some sort of QC that could do better, no brand is 100% perfect 100% of the time. A couple of other points are that when registered from new you get 8 years warranty and it goes through the 1000 hour control testing. Brilliant macro shots Bruce. Just as well I didn't send you my watch as there are a few "journey" marks on the case, I hated it when I saw the first blemish but got over it quite quickly. As I wear my watches and not baby them they will get the odd blemish that is just part of the journey.

      Agree on all that- I have the same watch and have loved and wanted it since I first saw it (aged 15 in 1996). I find it easy to dress down on a beads of rice or suede strap and it’s pretty much my daily wearer.

    I have one and there’s a nice hack to get around the “no hacking” issue - you CAN actually adjust the seconds. When the power reserve is very low if you apply a slight anticlockwise pressure on the crown in pulled out mode, you will stop the seconds (it takes a bit of practice). So you can hold it to set it, then push the crown in and wind and then go back and set the hour/minutes. It’s a pick tricky at first but you get the hang of it.

    I was pretty underwhelmed when I had mine and ended up parting ways after a couple months. To each their own, I’m sure my tastes are boring to most.

      @@zman8340 yeah, I think a lot of it stems from people who may not have actually experienced it in person. I mean, the numbers are painted on? The guilloche is cool, but it’s really the only dynamic part of the dial. And considering the movement is so spoken about, you can’t even see it. The case is just full polished, so on and so on…

      I can tell you from owning one for many years that over time I just seem to appreciate it more and more. It’s all in the details. Something you can’t experience until you own it. It’s not an only watch by any means but it gets the most wrist time.

    JLC, Hamilton, Rollie… if you are going to be “Swiss” you have to put AR coating on your sapphires. The Japanese and Germans don’t need to be told this.

    • @MPerry-ox9qb
      @MPerry-ox9qb Před 2 lety

      AR coating is overrated. Not all watches need it. It’s nice on the underside, but not a make or break imho.

    • @h.n.6641
      @h.n.6641 Před 2 lety

      It depends on the kind of watch. For a tool watch AR is a must...so shame on Rolex. But for a dress watch it is not necessary

    This is a flawed design. Many countries are a half an hour ahead. For example India is 9 1/2 hours ahead of USA, so how can you bump it only a half an hour?

    "Sub-sid-EE-ary," not "sub-sid-ER-ary." You have a wonderful, enlightening, detail-oriented (not orien-TATE-ed) channel. It's a pleasure to watch. That is, until these little glitches pop up and--perhaps unfairly--suggest you're less knowledgable than you are. I know this seems persnickety, but it's like a prospective patient being handed a neurosurgeon's business card. . .with a typo on it.

  • @waterfordrs22

    Lack of hacking is inconsequential on such a watch. Typically, this is a watch that would be wound first thing in the morning without much worry. PR is such an overrated metric by which to judge a watch. This has no date, it takes no time to set. A greater PR might be nice, but it mostly only matters the more a given watch is expected to be left unworn. If you aren’t wearing the watch every three or four days, chances are you aren’t wearing it at all and at some point, no matter the PR, it runs dry.
    Great watch,

  • @micheleorlando

    Doesn’t make any sense, the reverse dial should be called home time, you don’t need 24hr indicator on your travel time (just look outside) and the main dial time should be controlled by the push button. Can’t believe they screwed up so bad! Why nobody seem to realise this??

    Let face it, If you want to be time precise, mechanical isn't really for you. Hacking is just a slogan for affordable watches.

      Hacking watches were incredibly important in war (synchronizing an attack or maneuver). It literally meant life or death sometimes.
