- If your electric hot water heater is not working and the water is not getting hot, it’s probably overheated. In this video, I’ll show you how to reset the water heater with the reset button.

Omfgggg thanks so much, i thought i was about to have to drop a bag onna new water heater. CZcams is literally a life saver lmao! God bless u
Glad it helped!
Thank you! This was exactly what I needed to get my hot water heater back in action without having to call a plumber!
Glad it helped!
After being without hot water for 5 day's, the property manager not caring at all....... We decided to replace the thermostat ourselves!! The Night before last my man finally got our hot water heater fixed and I was thankful and happy!! So a few minutes ago when my son came and told me we had no hot water I was very upset 😭 Thanks to your video He reset the thermostat Now we're just hoping for hot water shortly so again Thank you sm for making this video ❤ Now we're just sitting here with our fingers crossed lol hoping for hot water 🤞
Thanks for sharing.
I bought this water heater czcams.com/users/postUgkx8G49mV71sAzUl9shXyLW-r3XgHH9EVh1 for use in my bus conversion. I installed it under my kitchen sink and it is fed by a high efficiency on-demand LP water heater. It is both a backup hot water source as well as a water saving device since we have hot water on demand rather than having to wait for the gas on demand water heater to finish its ignition cycle. I decided on this water heater due to the fact that it only draws 1300watts when it's ON instead of the 1500 watts that most Water heaters this size draw. In an RV a couple hundred watts can be a big deal. With very low standby losses, I don't have to worry about excessive power consumption. When propane is not available for our gas water heater, in conjunction with our low flow shower head there is enough hot water available to shower, albeit we won't be taking "hotel showers." Also very happy with the recovery rate of this water heater. Granted, it is quite small, but it does exactly what we need it to do.
Life saver. Thanks so much!!!
Thanks for watching!
Thanks it worked. Appreciate you! I can cancel my plumber appointment.

Great to hear!
Thank you. This video saved me a service call and I learned something.
Great to hear!
I’m going to try this now as no hot water ❤
Amazing
Pushing the reset button may reactivate your water heater and allow it to heat again, but be aware that the reset is only a safety feature to protect the system because of a fault in the thermostats or the heating elements. It is highly likely that the reset will trip once again, as soon as the water comes up to temperature. It is never recommended to repeatedly reset the upper thermostat to keep the water heater operating. Either the thermostats need to be replace, or the heating elements need to be replaced. If you don't have experience or tools to service 240 Volt AC electricity, then call to have the heater serviced.
Yes, if it trips again, will need o figure out why.
Thank you
Thanks for watching!
Hit my reset button and instantly heard the hot water heater kick back into action! 30 minutes later water was scolding hot !!
Let me know if the reset button worked for you.
Your email Please☺
Fixed 🎉🎉
Thank you for this awesome video. I have a question: Is it normal that when I opened the top panel the insulation and cover were wet? So far I just put it back together and left the breaker off. Any solutions or ideas? Thank you.
Good job turning the breaker OFF.
I'd investigate where the water is coming from because it's not normal for the insulation to be wet.
Maybe something is dripping on top of your water heater. If not, the water heater itself could be leaking. And unfortunately, possibly is ready for a replacement.
@@Your-Self Thank you so much for your prompt reply. I think I will replace it. Pretty dangerous. Thanks again and God bless.
Awesome, you likely saved me 100+ bucks from having someone come out and do just that
Good to hear!
I just installed a brand new rheem 40 gal. Its getting power but not heating up. I used the reset button but still nothing. Do you think its defective?
A brand-new unit should not trip the reset button. Did it trip the second time again after you reset it?
How do you know it's getting the power? If you have a multimeter watch the next video on how to test it correctly czcams.com/video/5AfvaCJBUek/video.html
When do we put the breaker back on? After the hour?
After you reset and screw the cover back on, you can flip the breaker on.
Maybe dumb question but but if no power on the reset still works
I have the same question
Yes. This reset seems to be a mechanical feature. I consider it similar to a breaker.
Mine doesn't have a reset button. What do you recommend?
change ur hot water tank
Thanks this worked but isn’t the red button a sign of something else happening? Like why did it pop out in the first place? Fixed the button but may not be the root cause 🧐
If the button doesn't pop up within a few days, then it's all good.
But if it does, try replacing the thermostat first. It could be just a "weak" button or a stuck thermostat. It's best to replace both the top and the bottom thermostats at the same time. If that doesn't help, you'll need a multimeter to do some tests.
Do you need to turn the breaker back on first before resetting the thermostat
No, first reset the thermostat, and then turn the breaker on. It's safer that way.
My question is why did you have to reset it the thermostat
The reset button on mine seems stuck. I can’t preset it. This happening to me on the coldest week is great timing 😂
I live in an apartment, the water heater isn’t in my apartment..not sure where it’s located!
For anyone still reading comments. Have a question. Hot water stopped working, checked the tank a 40 gal rheem prerformance (2015) and the reset wont click. Is there a way to trip the system to trt and reset again??
What do you mean by "reset won't click"?... The button won't stay down, or it's already down?
@Your-Self it just won't click. It seems flush, press it in and nothing happens
If the button is already flush, the problem is with something else.
Flip the electrical breaker OFF and back ON.
If still nothing, you'll need a multimer to test it as in the next video czcams.com/video/5AfvaCJBUek/video.html
@@Your-Self that's where the information I saw in your videos got me since writing the comment. I figured might was well just replace top and bottom since the sets aren't very expensive. Thanks a lot for your time and help.
Also power off then push reset button?
It's not necessary, but much safer to do.
Even after hitting the reset button, no hot water came out....What could be the problem?
@@southeastd.c5636 change ur tank its broken
yea i just got billed $175 for reset lol
What if my water heater tripped the breaker?! This is the second time this has happened
You may have a bad heating element or a thermostat.
Or maybe the breaker itself is weak. And in this case, you'll need an electrician.
@@Your-Self I'll start with the element and if it happens again, I'll definitely get an electrician to take a look. Thanks so much for your help 😃
How about a Rheem gladiator smart eco , where would the rest button be?
Not sure, sorry.
If you reset you need electricity
Unless you turn the breaker switch back on after pushing the reset button, your method would never work, little Einstein...
he does at the end of the video though
