    Make sure that you read and follow the safty instructions located on you water heater before attempting to light it.
    This reset will work with most gas water heaters. Whirlpool, A. O. Smith, Rheem, Bradford White, GE General Electric, ao smith etc.
    This should work with American water heaters, Rheem water heaters, A. O. Smith water heaters, and Bradford white water heaters
    In this video I show you why your water heater pilot light may be going out. The newer control modules are very sensitive, therefor you need to clean the mesh area underneath your water heater on a regular basis among other possible issues.

    You are a lifesaver. I was woken this morning by my spouse as she was departing for work with a comment that she thought the hot water heater wasn’t working because her shower never got hot. Not a great entree to a grueling 13-hour day, after which I wanted nothing more than a hot shower, except that…yeah. So I went up into the attic where the hot water heater is and attempted to relight it, following the instructions, and met with no success. I tried again after waiting for 5 minutes (which is what it says on mine) and still…nothing. Hot, tired, and sweaty, I teetered on surrender but thought I’d make one last-ditch attempt by watching a CZcams video. Fortunately, I found yours - you explained how it works better than the instructions, and when my first attempt wasn’t successful, I watched a second one of your videos where you explained the reset button on the thermopile, so I tried that and I felt a slight click, so I waited 10 minutes (per your instructions) and followed your relight procedure. I could hear the slight hiss of gas when I pushed the pilot light in and I waited a few seconds and started clicking the igniter. After a half dozen tries I saw the status light flash green - SUCCESS - so I dialed the control to my desired temperature and “Whoosh” - the sweet sound of ignition! I can’t thank you enough for giving me a much-needed hot shower tonight, and my wife will be ecstatic that she doesn’t have to choose between a cold shower or no shower at all. Blessings to you and yours.

From your troubleshooting video, I learned that that wasn't the case. Whew,😅 I'm glad that I didn't break it. I followed the instruction to re-light the pilot. The pilot wasn't staying lit because I wasn't waiting for the status light to come on. This water heater has been working 7yrs 5months 5days without any trouble, then nothing! • @CrowdSurfingGeezer
    @CrowdSurfingGeezer Před 6 lety +19

    Excellent stuff here! The "filter grate" is the flame arrestor that all water heaters (other than huge commercial ones) have had since 2003. It's easy to compare the under side of this "grate" to a laundry dryer screen that gets blocked with lint and dust over time. I prefer opening the burner compartment and blowing compressed air downward from inside then vacuuming out the base as you correctly advised. It's all about the air :-)

    • @checkitout2468
      @checkitout2468  Před 6 lety +2

      CrowdSurfingGeezer thank you so much for the compliment and confirming The information in this video. Do you know why modern house water heaters seem to be “plugging up“ in regards to airflow compared to older models? My parents house has a water heater that was made in 2005, I’ve never cleaned the filter grate and it seems to be problem free. I’m wondering if some of the models have larger holes in the filter...

    • @CrowdSurfingGeezer
      @CrowdSurfingGeezer Před 6 lety +3

      Different manufacturers use different medium for the flame arrestor. I've seen ceramic, steel with small round holes and finned metal. The ceramic ones really "grab" lint and hang on. All seem problematic and, as you noted, contribute to 95% of all premature water heater failures. Chuck Barron uploaded an excellent video on 10-15-17 on cleaning these. A guy could do this full time and never get caught up!

    • @checkitout2468
      @checkitout2468  Před 6 lety +3

      I put it on my reminders to clean the filter grate the first of the month every month. I haven’t had any problems since I started doing that. It’s kind of a pain in the neck, but it sure beats hearing my wife yell at me from her morning shower “THERE’S NO HOT WATER!”

    Not sure if this is gonna be a temporary fix but I promise you I watched 10 or 12 videos maybe more on my problem and turns out your video was the only one that mentioned the button on the back of the thermocouple. It also was the only one that talked about the air intake from the bottom in our filter was dirty we just didn’t know it was a filter, lol. The wife is happy as long as she gets a hot shower tonight I had to take a cold one this morning. Thank you very much for this video, more than helpful.

    Can’t Thank you enough. Hubby tried with No Luck early morning, so he took a Shower in Cold Water, He had to leave for work, told me about the problem and said just press and click. After 40 mins. trying to get it to light by Holding the Control Knob in Pilot position and pressing the igniter Button for 90 seconds repeatedly, I had NO Luck. So, I found your Video and after watching, I learned #1 you have to wait 10 mins. in between trying to start it again due to the gas build up and the sensor. #2 I found my Thermo Couple was popped out, so pressed it in. #3 I took a small brush before trying again and cleaned any Dust around the bottom just as an extra Tip before trying. Magic, it’s up and running like a Gem. Just Called my Husband at work and bragged my ass off. LOL Thanks, Betty W.

      Video worked for me too! After I called the neighbor (a former fireman) and he couldn't get it to work. First, he didn't wait the 10 minutes. Second, he didn't look for the light to flash. He did mention the thermo thingy but he didn't know about the switch. After he left, I cleaned under it (as I paused the video), then saw that I needed to try the switch. I pressed the switch and heard a click! I was so excited 😆. I was then able to light the pilot! Thank you a 1,000 times!
