I just paid a guy $59 for a guy to come and try to sell me a $3k replacement job. I tried troubleshooting the thermopile isolated and then the thru the switch. The guy that came out never tried to troubleshoot anything or tell me or try to check the reset on the switch‼️ 2min into this video, I now have hot water and a happy wife, and saved a lot of money on a unnecessary purchase. Don't forget it wasn't that long ago that you needed to call someone out for help, but nowadays there are guys like Pat around who share their expertise with us. This video is the absolute perfect step by step checklist to ascertain _exactly_ what's wrong with your gas water heater. When it's boiled down to essentials it might not sound like much, but there's many years of troubleshooting and repairing very neatly sewn into every sentence, and it takes another person with years of experience to fully appreciate what's being offered for free. On top of all that it's so clear & concise on what to do and how to do it, that it's easily understandable to a layman, home-owner or Do-It-Yourself-er. Great video mate.

We haven't had hot water for nearly a week. I've relit the pilot a few times in the past, but this time it just wouldn't work. Sparker is fine and lights the pilot no problem, but as soon as I let go of the knob the flame dies.

Excellent professional guidance! Here is another tip. If the water heater pilot light is not igniting, it may be the spark is not strong enough. There is a wire coming from the igniter. Disconnect this wire and spray contact cleaner on it and reconnect it. Then turn the dial to pilot. Wait at least 5 minutes. While the dial is pointing to pilot, press and hold the dial, and click the igniter every 10 seconds until you hear a subtle dull pop (which is an indication the pilot is lit). Keep holding the dial in and keep clicking every 15 seconds until you see the light start flashing every 3 seconds or so. If not lit within 2 minutes, stop and try again after 15 minutes.

OMG, SO THANKFUL FOR THIS VIDEO😁😂🤣😎❣ AO auto strike gas Heater was out. No lights flashing at all. It's under warranty, couldn't get "mfgr" to call me back. Called ex-hubby🙄 He tried and tried to relight it, no go. We'd googled several videos but nothing about "no light at all issues"....
Suddenly YOUR video came up... was about to close when you mentioned that thermocouple "reset button". Hmmmm kept listening. 😳🤔
We listened, went back to water heater, did push that button, tried to relight.... and SHE CAME BACK ON PERFECTLY! YEA!!!! Thank you SO MUCH! Saved by you & Jesus🙏👍👏👊🤝 WooHoo (Happy Dance) from Oklahoma's Godmother 🤗😘😍🙏👱‍♀️

hello!!! I just want to say Thank you.
I am Chilean but I live in Vancouver, boiling in my country is very different, it was very worrying for me not knowing how to use the one we have at home, we no longer had hot water and we did not know what to do, my roommate looked for and read the complete manual and We weren't able to fix it, I went to CZcams just in case a response appeared and poof your video magically appeared to save us, now we have hot water and we already know how to use our boiler
thank you so much for your video 💕

Thanks, saved my day! For my unit, I just turned the knob to "Pilot" and pressed the igniter a couple of times, once it got ignited, I moved the knob back to the "A" position and it started working.

Thanks for the post. I got mine restarted after leaving it off for 10 minutes. I have a Rheem, and it took a while for the pilot light to stay lit while I adjusted the temperature control setting. So far, so good, I'll know that all is good in the morning if I have hot water.
