12 years later and this video is still saving people's days. THANK YOU. My dad passed away Oct 2nd and this is something I'd usually call him about. The man was the fixer of all things. On a rare occasion of him not being able to come help me out, he'd tell me to look it up on CZcams. Here we are.
    Thanks again.

Really want to thank you for this clearly explained video. I am a single mom and discovered while trying to give my daughter a bath our hot water was cold! Before this I had no clue even where to begin. 5 minute fix and back to our routine. Can't thank you enough. This saved me from a ton of worry and stressing out and I'm sure a bit of money as well.

Beautiful clear tutorial. Thank you so much! I found the inner door, removed it. Lit the pilot light, held for 70 seconds or so, then turned the knob to ON. I turned the temp dial to warm. That big whoosh! as the burner came on was a blessing! Thank God! I was afraid of a high heater replacement bill. What a relief!

This worked for me. My power company was going to charge $85 just to “diagnose” the problem. It’s dead of winter and no hot water. This video combined with the directions on my hot water heater did the trick. It was the pilot light. It just needed to be relit. There is a slight difference between my hot water heater and the one in the video. My hot water heater has an automatic button that lights the pilot. You don’t have to open it up and light it yourself. Also, I had to turn my water temperature to the lowest setting which was called pilot light setting. I had to press down on the gas and the pilot igniter button simultaneously and I got a flame. These are different models, but overall it worked like a charm. I can now take a hot bath.Thank you so much!

Oh man, you're a life saver!! I figured that my pilot light was out when my water was only lukewarm but I had no idea where the pilot light was or how to light it etc. Husband is out of town and out of reach and I didn't want to bother the neighbor. You explained this so well and easy to follow, the pilot light is lit and I am very happy and can't wait to tell hubby that I already took care of the problem. Took less than 6 minutes to fix. Thanks for mentioning that some water leakage is normal because that is exactly what was happening. Can't thank you enough for a great video!

Wow, thanks for the video. I just realized we didn't have hot water on this Saturday morning. Looked at the water heater and was pretty sure the pilot was out, but not sure how or what to do. Started watching your video. One of the first things you mentioned as a possilbe reason for this would be a windy night. Exactly what we had last night. So went through the lighting procedure; only had to take the outer cover off; an electric lighter, could see it trying and then saw the pilot flame through the small glass window. Success. Thanks again.

The first was informative and took us through the process much like your video but left out one "important" thing the inner door that leads to the pilot. This was important because with it we would be able to see the pilot to light it.
