12 years later and this video is still saving people's days. THANK YOU. My dad passed away Oct 2nd and this is something I'd usually call him about. The man was the fixer of all things. On a rare occasion of him not being able to come help me out, he'd tell me to look it up on CZcams. Here we are.
Thanks again.
You have a knack for teaching. Your style, the way you speak and explain, man you can teach anything. Thank you for this video.
After a solid week of no hot water in our new house, nothing made me feel more accomplished today than hearing that flame roar back to life. Thanks so much my dude!
Really want to thank you for this clearly explained video. I am a single mom and discovered while trying to give my daughter a bath our hot water was cold! Before this I had no clue even where to begin. 5 minute fix and back to our routine. Can't thank you enough. This saved me from a ton of worry and stressing out and I'm sure a bit of money as well.
Thanks a million, God Bless. Because of him, We have hot water tonight and kids can take a shower before go to their school.
Beautiful clear tutorial. Thank you so much! I found the inner door, removed it. Lit the pilot light, held for 70 seconds or so, then turned the knob to ON. I turned the temp dial to warm. That big whoosh! as the burner came on was a blessing! Thank God! I was afraid of a high heater replacement bill. What a relief!
Got up this morning and had no hot water. Your video that you took your own time to do for us allowed a family of six get hot water back in our house again. Thanks a lot!
Excellent tutorial. In just minutes of education, you spared me many dollars, and a wasted weekend day. Thank you!
This worked for me. My power company was going to charge $85 just to “diagnose” the problem. It’s dead of winter and no hot water. This video combined with the directions on my hot water heater did the trick. It was the pilot light. It just needed to be relit. There is a slight difference between my hot water heater and the one in the video. My hot water heater has an automatic button that lights the pilot. You don’t have to open it up and light it yourself. Also, I had to turn my water temperature to the lowest setting which was called pilot light setting. I had to press down on the gas and the pilot igniter button simultaneously and I got a flame. These are different models, but overall it worked like a charm. I can now take a hot bath.Thank you so much!
After fighting with this boiler I finally followed the steps you made so easily. So happy my family has hot water back in the house, thank you so much!
Thank you, thank you, thank you!!! Your wisdom posted 12 years ago, is right on today !
Oh man, you're a life saver!! I figured that my pilot light was out when my water was only lukewarm but I had no idea where the pilot light was or how to light it etc. Husband is out of town and out of reach and I didn't want to bother the neighbor. You explained this so well and easy to follow, the pilot light is lit and I am very happy and can't wait to tell hubby that I already took care of the problem. Took less than 6 minutes to fix. Thanks for mentioning that some water leakage is normal because that is exactly what was happening. Can't thank you enough for a great video!
Thank you so much for making this video. Single mother here trying to get things done on her own.
Saved me calling the plumber. Thank you so much
My pilot went out and your instructions were super easy to follow. Thanks 🤟🏻
Thank you so much. You probably don't realize how much of a blessing you have been to so many people.
I've been coming back to this video over the years and this has helped me immensely in restarting my water heater. If there's a gem of a video on the Internet, this is it. Thanks for the direct explanation and how to rectify this issue.
Thank you for this video! I learned a little about how my water heater works, and I fixed it right up without having to call anyone for help!
Great teacher, thank you for your help. There seems to be a lot to learn about a water heater, lighting pilot, replacing parts and maintenance.
One of the first things you said, "may have been extremely windy weather" was the root of our problem. Thanks!!
Just wanted to say thank you ! You got me through doing this and I now have hot water again.
Appreciate your clear instructions and your visuals 😊
I watched this video once and was able to light mine and get my hot water heater back running after never doing it myself before!! Amazon video, very clear and straight to the point! No confusing information that’s not needed at all! Thank you so very much for this video!!
This is the Best instructional video, same type of water heater tank as ours. Thank you so much for the tips.
I just followed your lead, and It worked perfectly to a tee.
Warning: When you say HOLD DOWN THE PRESS BUTTON for ONE MINUTE, just do exactly that! One minute.
I let it go before one minute. The pilot light went off. Had to repeat the sequence again to a tee. Perfect!!!!
I woke up this morning to cold water in my tap. The hot water heater did not have it's normal hissing sound from the burners. Sure enough the pilot light was out. This video was a huge help. Thanks!!!
As a single parent, it's just not possible to call-out the pros to do this! I did it myself with your help! Thank you!!! :)
THANKS SO MUCH! EXCELLENT VIDEO. I HAVE NEVER LIGHTED A PILOT LIGHT. WORKED FIRST TIME. Chris Spannagel should consider launching a series of home maintenance videos. He is a natural!
One of those videos that shall live forever. Thank you for the clear explanation sir.
I am a senior woman and I was able to relight my pilot light easily. thank you!
I want to just say thank you sooooo much. I was scared 😱 😨 to touch this gas heated water heater. I kept looking at picture on heater of guy screaming in flames warning label, as I followed your step by step instructions, it worked and no fire depth was needed to take my charred remains out of a blown up house. Thank you, seriously 😃
My water heater has instructions on the front for how to do this, but it was way better to see it demonstrated. After viewing this a few times, I felt confident enough to try it. Yay! I now have hot water again. Thanks so much!
Thanks for taking the time to make this video! I was able to successfully light the pilot and get the burner flame going. This was already a scary endeavor made easy and less scary by your thorough explanation. Thank you.
This was a great step by step video, without talking down to your intended audience! Thanks! I am a single mom, learning to do all household fixes, myself, and I was able to follow this step-by-step instructional video and get my hot water heater working again!
Thanks! I have the exact model in your video. The Gas co. came by this week and changed out our meter. I suspect the interruption in service is what caused the pilot to go out. Anywho, just got home from work on my last day before a 3 week furlough & dealing with water heater repairs were the last thing I wanted to deal with. Said a quick prayer and found your video which got me back up and going. Can't thank you enough! Merry Christmas & God Bless!
You helped me get hot water back in my house. You saved my vacation, thank you!
Thanks a lot! I just bought my first house a few months ago and have never encountered this issue before.
Ten years later and this video helped out a lot ! Thank you
This video just saved me a plumber visit. Cost me a flashlight, but that's okay. Thanks!
Awesome!!! My sister just called me to inform me that 'No hot water'. I instantly assumed it was the pilot. You have provided very good instructional information. I thank you for your help. You are great. Good video, well explained.
Dude, this came in very handy, even with my piezoelectric feature. It was also published on my birthday 1/26 so that was most auspicious. Thanks a lot, my wife is very happy now that we have hot water!!!
Hey!! Had to join the rest in saying THANK YOU SO VERY MUCH!!! I'm a single mom that now feels like a Big Girl!! With your help I didn't have to pay a service fee or ask the Evil X to come and rescue me. You're a lifesaver!
This fixed my no hot water problem in about 45 seconds...Thanks man...
Thanks, read my water heater instructions and couldn't figure out what they meant by a door. You gave clear intelligent step by step instruction and explained it probably went out from the consistent high wind we were having. I feel so accomplished now, thanks
Thank you!! Got my pilot light going again thanks to this video. This is an older unit like mine, and it was really helpful to have this.
You helped me relight my pilot for the first time! I was getting only warm water, and after finding your video, I was able to get my hot water back on! You are amazing. You went over everything perfectly. Thanks you very much!
Great video, very informative. I've just purchased a used tank to put in my cotttage, and didn't know much about operating it. This has been a real help.
Thank you so much!! As a single mother you just saved me so much needed money and time!! I feel like a rock star! 👍🏼
This was one of two videos that helped me fix my water heater's pilot light going out and not coming back on. Thanks for the explanation of the solenoid.
Thank you bruh . Your calm vibe made this seem doable. Took away the stress of a possible “blow up”
This video spared me a cold shower after having turned off the gas to do some work. I didn't realize you still need to actually light the pilot light with fire these days...I was holding down the pilot button waiting for the thing to go, duh. Thanks for the post!
I came home and there was no hot water. Its a cold winter night. Thanks to you for saving my life and $200++ for a service guy!
Fantastic video! Wasted almost an hour trying to figure out how to light my water heater. Your video helped me immediately!
I save myself a service call by following your tips. Thanks a lot for producing this video..... Melbourne Australia
Thank you so much. Last night I did get the hot water. Now I watched your video and now I can light pilot light and then I did as you told. Then I got the hot water back. You explained very well.
Definitely the best how to video for lighting a pilot light! Thank you
Fantastic video, I will be trying this for a friend in need tomorrow. I noticed that you forgot your flashlight in the heater chamber hopefully you got it out before it was ruined.
Thank you so much for the video instruction. Almost called the technician, but I was able to turn the pilot light on by myself after watching the video!
Thank you. Our other water heater had an automatic pilot, so we didn't have to go through this. But we now have a lit pilot on this one. Great video.
Thank you. This video plus the Home Depot lady saved us from an expensive service call.
I looked at a few videos on this issue and this was by far the best one. I especially appreciate the ancillary info such as how to get the inner panel back on and mentioning the condensation/sizzle sound. I also appreciate how you explained this all without a condescending tone, like you know this video is, of course, for women, and only men who lack a "man-card" - there are more than a couple of those out there, sadly. Thank you so much!
Had no idea how to relight the pilot light on my apartment water heater, this video was incredibly helpful and easy to follow thank you!
We just had one of the coldest days in years, you are the best my man.
Thanks for teaching me how to do this, and saving me all that $. Your video is worth a thousand words. I like the clear explaination abount the inner door and the cold tank hissing sound. Very useful!!
Thanks for the help big guy
Just got back from vacation to a cold water tank. This is giving me hope! Thanks for the vid!
Thank you! You explained this very clearly and easily unlike most of the other videos I watched- Thank you! I fixed my pilot light!
It took me a while to find a video with this model all other videos are the newer models thanks it really helped me
Very nice! Someone who knows the mechanics and application with a through instruction. Nice to find in this day and age of many babblers.
Good job my friend!
One of the best instructional vids I've seen. thanks
Excellent video and explanation. 3:35 finally some has correctly and comprehensibly explained to me how the thermocouple operates. awesome
Great tutorial, got my pilot going again, thank you!
Awesome explanation. Especially the sounds it’ll make when you go through the steps. Thank you!
I did it! Omg I'm shaking and everything. This video is a godsend!
This is exactly what I have and was dead on. I had no idea how to light the pilot. Thank you!
You, Sir.....rock! Thanks for the very comprehensive instruction!
Much appreciated. My landlady is out of town for an extended period and I need to see about fixing this myself!
The part I found really helpful was the explanation of the weird noises it makes because the water is cold. I'd be freaking out right now about the sounds coming from the tank without that knowledge, so thank you.
Teaching is your gift! Love your explanations. You took away my fear of lightning my hot water heater!
Wow, thanks for the video. I just realized we didn't have hot water on this Saturday morning. Looked at the water heater and was pretty sure the pilot was out, but not sure how or what to do. Started watching your video. One of the first things you mentioned as a possilbe reason for this would be a windy night. Exactly what we had last night. So went through the lighting procedure; only had to take the outer cover off; an electric lighter, could see it trying and then saw the pilot flame through the small glass window. Success. Thanks again.
Thank you. Because of you I now have hot water again. Muchly appreciated!
Your video was the second of two that we saw on the subject. The first was informative and took us through the process much like your video but left out one "important" thing the inner door that leads to the pilot. This was important because with it we would be able to see the pilot to light it.
It worked! Thank you for the great directions!!
Theresa Ormonde Adkins my hot water gets cold quick need help fixing it I've been looking all over the internet
Wonderful! Thank you so very much for this professional instruction video, HomeSteady!
Thanks Chris and Chuck. I'm not ready to tackle it myself yet but I really appreciate learning about it this way.
Thank you for the easy-to-follow tutorial. Your explanations were very helpful and worked exactly as you described. Cheers.
I did it with your video nearby, and I'm a 69 year old woman. Thanks a lot.
Followed your steps by the letter and it saved me this cold morning. Thanks for your guidance and fr you lighting the way
Thank you for the lesson. It was comprehensive and informative.
Thank you. I appreciate the clear and thorough explanation. Made fixing my issue easy
Thank you for your suggestion. It saved me money and everything is working out right.
My water heater wouldn't stay lit and so I asked a friend and his son to see if they could fix it. After having it fail to stay lit, they watched your video and went on to fix it. The problem was the Thermocoupler. I think the hardest part for them was getting it screwed back inside. The new part was only $12 and after a few hours I have hot water again! Thanks for sharing your knowledge!
Just re-lit my pilot light! Woohoo. Great video. THANK YOU!
Thank you brother you literally fixed my problem your tutorials are fantastic keep up the great work
Worked perfectly! hope you retrieved your flashlight. You left it in the heater!
Jesus thank you, absolutely fantastic tutorial. Keep them coming. 😊
Did what you said and the boiler worked, 45 seconds while depressing the switch. Thank you!
I realize this video is 8 years old, but it was the best one that I found and it helped ease the fear of doing this. Very thorough and helpful. Thank you! I'm not a subscriber!
I dunno... there are a lot of 'Explosion Hazard' stickers on and around that panel on mine...
Thank you!! Watched this a few times and was able to light it myself.
Thank you for an easy to follow and thorough tutorial.
Awesome video. Thank you. I fixed my pilot light which went off due to wind
