I'm surprised you didn't put the "bounce all nontoken creatures" card in the board wipe category. Also the Essex deck is finally a home for the card cultivator of blades. It's pretty much known as a bad deepforest hermit or bad pathbreaker ibex, but essex can make 3 copies of it and push it into a genuinely scary attack.
Only card I'd recomend to add too is Master of waves, as it'd go nuts with enough devotion, and you'll usually have a good devotion number with Esix out to be worth playing
How is perplexing test not a board wipe? Why is it not mentioned as one over curse of the swine? I would say curse is more targeted removal than board wipe.
There are some good synergies within the original deck, though, even out of those cut cards. The first time we played this deck (original), my son used Adrix and Nev as commander. Soon he had Esix on the battlefield, and then was able to get the Hornet Queen to play. Hornet Queen comes in, Adrix and Nev doubles that, making a total of 8 flyer insect tokens. Then, Esix allows you to make each of those 8 tokens become another Hornet Queen, so you now get 32 flying insect tokens with deathtouch AND you have 10 Hornet Queens, all in one play. Second time we played this, I had the Fractal Harness and because I had the Hornet Nest on the battlefield, my son wasn't attacking because his things were kinda big and would have given me lots of flying tokens that would have become big things. I used Fractal Harness and paid X=6, and then the twincasters made 2 of these things. Then the first time I attacked, X became 12, the next time I attacked, X became 24, and soon it was unstoppable. So there are options.
Since you left Crafty Cutpurse in the deck, it is worth pointing out that Cutpurse with Rampage of the Clans takes all those centaurs away from everyone else and gives them to you. With Esix on the board as well, the possibilities are vast.
Myr Battlesphere, if you can give it haste. You make 4 new Myr Battlesphere’s, and 16 myrs. You can attack with the OG, tap the other 20 to make a 24/7 and do 20 dmg

@Maskensaft i did the math, if you have 5 devotion to blue with adrin and nev, and esix out, after the full combo with mystic reflections and master of waves, you will finish with 24,700 elementals, all of which are plus 161
I have been prepping this deck for Adrix and Nev as by build start-point, but watching this is really changing my opinion on how I want to go. HOWEVER, there is a fun card I chose for Adrix and Nev that I thought might be interesting to play. #1 Clone legion with Adrix and Arcane Artisan. I think using Arcane to draw out a cheap Avenger of Zendikar, and then making copies of Avenger once he's out for 3 mana sounded really fun.
Unrelated but, wanted to put this comment somewhere you can see it, hen someone dies in game knights you should have them turn there mat over too the solid black rubber side, not only would this be a cool ritual, but as a new player, it would help me follow along
The way essix is worded you can't use it's ability to copy itself, but... If you have sakashima of 1,000 faces on the battlefield not copying anything, along with the enchantment dual nature, (which gives you a token copy of your creatures when they etb) when you play essix you will get a token copy of essix. Then play a progenitor mimic with both the original and the copy copying the sakashima, which will then all be able to copy the essix every time it's your turn. Don't ask why you would do this, instead ask yourself why wouldn't you?

Excellent guide. I might need to pick up this deck now! I have felt overwhelmed lately of all the decks and products coming out so I haven't had a good look at many of the commander decks they have done. Strixhaven is a favorite set of mine lately. Wish they did a three piece set for it.
Funny that they didn't get that Quandrix was supposed to be a big X/X token deck instead of a normal Go-Wide token deck. Choosing Esix instead of Adrix+Nev as commander is fine, Josh had good reasons (building something we didn't see before). Also, Ruxa and "Spawning Kraken" are just seeds for other decks.
I knew you had to have been talking about that gorgeous salamander pirate! I am putting it almost all of my blue decks. So long are the days of temporary removal bounce spells! Blue will just turn your board into vanillas and exile the original. As you stated, you will probably have the Amphin Mutineers enter as themselves, but the flexibility to do something else...Just makes this card even better. As for the value, it has to be due to people sleeping on it and not having played it in person yet. I cashed out a portion of my 401k to purchase a significant position in this! I think it is a SHOO-IN!
return of the wild speaker was also reprinted in one the zendikar rising precons so it probably would be even more expensive if it was only in throne of eldrane
I am extremely hyped about this set, C21, and especially this deck. 4 of the 5 I really really like but out of those.4 this.one.is.definitely my favorite
Okay Josh if your giving others tokens, you got to add in “crafty cutpurse” 4 drop flash, “if a token would be put under an opponent’s control put it under your control instead.”
some of these prices for value reprint cards are really off compared to EU market. Picking these up on mkm (magic card market) return wildspeaker ~0.90c (1.05 usd) biomancer ~0.70c (0.83 usd) sol ring ~1.10c (1.31 usd) incubation druid ~0.18c ( 0.20c usd can get the promo version for 0.20c EUR either!) crazy how different these prices are in comparison to individual seller platforms
In the most minor defense of Study Hall, if you are playing the pre-con and you get Study Hall out early and you turn three Cultivate or Kodama’s Reach you will have five mana on turn four with a four mana commander. But yea, if you’re upgrading the deck, get rid of that card as well as Opal Palace. Command Beacon feels good to me for either of the Quandrix Qommanders because Esix starts out at six and both feel like prime targets for removal.
Me before the episode: I wonder who could have possibly done the upgrade for this *JOSH?* Me at 2:09: Uh huh, yeah sure I totally believe you *Josh...*
Crystal Shard is a great budget include at around 2.30$. Great for many blue decks that want to protect their own creatures or abuse ETB effects, and it's an artifact so it's much safer than other options.
Correct me if im wrong but, the fractal tokens mechanic create a 0/0 and then put X=1/+1 counters on it. If we have the effect from Esix replaces the 0/0 from a body of research with another creature ( lets say a Triskelion ) it will then get all the extra +1/+1 counters, we are using a replacemnt effect on the create a token, an not effecting the counters.
I have already planned to take the best cards from this deck and put it into my X-spell tribal Zaxara deck. I think both Commanders and the combined token/ +1/+1 counter theme of the deck fits really well with Zaxara's basic premise.
I think from beyond is a good card to consider for this deck because not only does it give at least one token per turn it also adds mana ramp and if u put ulamog the careless hunger or it that betrays or any of the huge eldrazi the second u get to 12 mana on board sacrifice from beyond search your library and play ulamog in the same turn now if any time u would make a token u target ulamog now u get an indestructible and get removal I think that from beyond is good for both early and late game in this deck change my mind
If you cast rampage of the clans the opponents stuff would also become copies of whatever you chose. essix reads 'first time you would make token' not 'tokens under your control'
The token from Geometric Nexus can be changed, though. That's add 9 +1/+1 counters to a copy of any creature for 6 mana in your example. I don't know if that makes it worth playing but it's worth noting
If you have debts and need Upstart, and are buying M:tG products, please re-evaluate. The use of the Orzhov who will enslave people even after they die is not cute or funny when you think that someone probably got into real debt playing a luxury card game and the company targeted that advertising to them. Yuck.
I just recently ordered the deck, and while I agree and am using the additions, I think the cards that create fractals are a lot stronger in Esix than being shown here. With Esix, those fractals become whatever, but also get however many +1/+1s, so while you can value out with the tokens, you can also absolutely bw more aggressive if you are buffing up the best bodies at a table!
I noticed that too and was like what the heck did people eat for breakfast today? The last video that Jimmy and DJ did together everyone was happy and this time its pretty cringe. I think people gravitate or are prone to comment like other people they see comment? So if the chain starts off positive more positive will follow and vs versa for negative. I love Dj and the more diverse opinions are on their cast the better reflection of options and viewpoints for the community as a whole :)
Would you guys ever do a 5 player game for extra turns for times like this when you have 5 decks? Or would that create too many problems with editing? Have you ever tried it?
What if you cast avenger of zendikar, triggered esix to make copies of avenger of zendikar, then on ETB of those AoZ, you cast Mystic Reflection. Is that 7 more AoZ or 49 more? It's 7 more, right? So you'd have 15 AoZ and 91 plants?
@@emperor_rasmus7719 Mystic Reflection says one or more so it would be 49 and if you had the twins out instead it would be 98 instead with 1372 plant tokens.

Josh you should consider wolverine riders. It's has a mena value of 5 for a 4/4 creature- elf warrior. It makes a 1/1 green elf creature token each upkeep. Also whenever another elf etb you gain life equal to its toughness. It's 49 cents on card kingdom right now.
uuuuhhhhh???? the unblockable 'subtheme' is in there because most of the token creation involves big dumb fractals? Not a swarm of little saprolings? You need some way to push them through duh.
Just to comment on geometric nexus, I think it has potential as if you have Esix in play it will copy and add the counters. It most defenately is an easy cut, but thought it was worth mentioning.
I feel like I won't ever run any of these cards as a commander in my Simic deck, but many are welcome in the 99 any day. I already have lots of token creatures as a Simic player, but having ramp/card draw in the command zone can't be beat as Simic.
I saw that you liked deep forest hermit for Essix but I found that thelonite hermit is a little better because it has morph so it can kind of come as a surprise and it does not have vanishing so it will stay and you will have your 16 5/5s until the hermits get killed not just a three turn play.

I love the idea of playing the upgraded precons in Extra Turns! Can’t wait for that episode :)
Let's address the bear in the room. So, like, Ruxa was named after Teddy Ruxpin right?
I assumed so.
I'm sorry...say that again...the tape got jammed
return of the wild speaker was also reprinted in one the zendikar rising precons so it probably would be even more expensive if it was only in throne of eldrane
I am extremely hyped about this set, C21, and especially this deck.
4 of the 5 I really really like but out of those.4 this.one.is.definitely my favorite
Okay Josh if your giving others tokens, you got to add in “crafty cutpurse” 4 drop flash, “if a token would be put under an opponent’s control put it under your control instead.”
its in the deck
some of these prices for value reprint cards are really off compared to EU market. Picking these up on mkm (magic card market)
return wildspeaker ~0.90c (1.05 usd)
biomancer ~0.70c (0.83 usd)
sol ring ~1.10c (1.31 usd)
incubation druid ~0.18c ( 0.20c usd can get the promo version for 0.20c EUR either!)
crazy how different these prices are in comparison to individual seller platforms
Me before the episode: I wonder who could have possibly done the upgrade for this *JOSH?*
Me at 2:09: Uh huh, yeah sure I totally believe you *Josh...*
Your underrating oversimplify
To the editor: dollars goes first, cents go last. For example: ($5) & (55¢)
If you cast rampage of the clans the opponents stuff would also become copies of whatever you chose. essix reads 'first time you would make token' not 'tokens under your control'
rampage of the clans says "its controller puts a 3/3"
I also kinda like the +1+1 counter theme as the token guy in my group i find tokens can be weak as hell especially when your friend Elish norn
Unblockable for tokens seems apt. Simic and Selesnya especially tend to have issues against opposing planeswalkers.
I love having DJ on the channel. He's so fun to listen to!
Helm of the host on a&n
1st turn: 2 tokens + original
2nd turn: 10 tokens + original
3rd turn: 2048 tokens + original
+ scute swarm and land after combat
1st turn: 9 scute swarm
2nd turn: 18551
3rd turn: 1.79x10^8783
Been waiting for this for about a week! Thanks!
The token from Geometric Nexus can be changed, though. That's add 9 +1/+1 counters to a copy of any creature for 6 mana in your example. I don't know if that makes it worth playing but it's worth noting
Josh u should add scute swarm to the deck
If you have debts and need Upstart, and are buying M:tG products, please re-evaluate. The use of the Orzhov who will enslave people even after they die is not cute or funny when you think that someone probably got into real debt playing a luxury card game and the company targeted that advertising to them. Yuck.
Josh/Jimmy, please do not continue this sponsor. It is not appropriate. You are good people. Please consider this carefully.
Thats what you call selling out my man
I just recently ordered the deck, and while I agree and am using the additions, I think the cards that create fractals are a lot stronger in Esix than being shown here. With Esix, those fractals become whatever, but also get however many +1/+1s, so while you can value out with the tokens, you can also absolutely bw more aggressive if you are buffing up the best bodies at a table!
No Biovisionary? It's only like 0.50 and wins with your token making plan.
I think it’s too narrow and niche
Night soil is also a great card with Esix it lets you pay one to activate its affect and lets you exile creatures from any graveyard.
Idk if it’s always like this but it seems like there’s some pretty harsh comments but I think you guys are doing great and I love dj on the show!
Love the idea u guys play with your own upgrades. I cant wait to see the episode!!!
Stolen Identity would be a possible upgrade for this deck since it has cipher and the deck is leaning toward the "can't be blocked" theme.
7 more because each of the new AOZ triggers resolve separately so mystic reflection only effects one of them so 15 AoZ and 91 plants correct.
@@emperor_rasmus7719 Mystic Reflection says one or more so it would be 49 and if you had the twins out instead it would be 98 instead with 1372 plant tokens.
@@DavidJimenez-bs7dg lmao
I’m Sooo excited for this set I didn’t really like time spiral remastered I no it was hyped soo much and it’s cool but it just got to expensive
Same but i i had lady luck bought 3 packs pulles foil time shift thoughtseize lol
My 3 packs had kiki-jiki + foil knight of the reliquery, contagion clasp, and Yawgmoth, thran physician. I bought 12 more for a draft, once we are allowed friends again, hoping for some good stuff there 😀 Then prices skyrocketed...
@@Drk-qd9qc oh I got kiki jiki
@@Drk-qd9qc now it’s like 320 bucks might as well just save for the new set
@@lcfishing859 Yeah, it went from $250 CAD on release day to $360 CAD the next day , to way more than I'm willing to spend on day 3. I will be buying a box or 2 of Strixhaven, the set looks great for draft and I need a legit Demonic Tutor, for reasons... :D
The line of Rampage of the Clans, and flash in Crafty Cutpurse is just rough.
Go to exile.
Thanks for the help. I love the green and blue deck thanks for the tips. Keep up the content guys
18:11 -BODY ONCE TOLD ME, THE WORLD IS GONNA ROLL ME
uuuuhhhhh???? the unblockable 'subtheme' is in there because most of the token creation involves big dumb fractals? Not a swarm of little saprolings? You need some way to push them through duh.
Just to comment on geometric nexus, I think it has potential as if you have Esix in play it will copy and add the counters. It most defenately is an easy cut, but thought it was worth mentioning.
Finally there actually playing the upgraded decks
Nadir Kraken seems amazing with this deck. About a dollar
I feel like I won't ever run any of these cards as a commander in my Simic deck, but many are welcome in the 99 any day. I already have lots of token creatures as a Simic player, but having ramp/card draw in the command zone can't be beat as Simic.
i hope someone played the silverquill deck, low key wanna see it in action
I saw that you liked deep forest hermit for Essix but I found that thelonite hermit is a little better because it has morph so it can kind of come as a surprise and it does not have vanishing so it will stay and you will have your 16 5/5s until the hermits get killed not just a three turn play.
Also Timeless Witness is another strict upgrade over Archaeomancer too, so i throw that card in instead of Archaeomancer
