While not quite the same you could add Bag Of Holding instead of Library Of Leng and still have the ability to get those discarded cards back eventually. It’s also on theme for a D and D set deck.
Just as a reminder, Library of Leng doesn't let you put the card you discard with Faldorn on top. Library specifically looks for effects, not costs. Since Faldorn discards the card as part of the cost, Library won't work.
Yeah, I just found that out with Jaxis. The Library would be so much better if it was errated to allow for that
@@Blargonia Tbh while it would certainly make the Library a stronger card, I don't think that would be a good thing. Ability costs can't be interacted with directly, so it'd make it near, if not completely, impossible to deal with before they've had a chance to abuse the Library.
Aren't they somewhat judges. Why would they suggest a card if it doesn't work.

Containment Construct doing the work yet again for discard outlets. You activate Faldhorn which triggers your Containtment Construct then you get 2 2/2 wolves if you are able to play both cards.

I like the idea of both squee’s for this deck. Squee goblin Nabob as a form of discard fodder for your commanders ability and the immortal because if you discard you can still cast him and if you impulsive draw him you can cast him on a later turn as well.
To go along with the squee the immortal is both eternal scourge and food chain for the infinite creature mana but I know some ppl don’t like that.
I absolutely love this set! As someone who came to D&D long before MTG, introducing backgrounds feels almost like rolling up a character. So many combinations and no two would play the same.
Venture Forth is actually a bit better than it looks because it exiles the land first before putting it on the field, meaning you get a 2/2 wolf out of it. And every subsequent suspend cast will get 2 wolves, 1 for the cast and 1 for the land.
2 wolves and a land every 3 turns is a looong time to wait for 4 power

Library of Lang does not work with this commander's ability because it's a cost to discard, not an effect, so u can't put the card you discard on top to impulsive draw it.
Wait, why doesn’t that work? If I discard as the cost, Leng triggers to put it on the top of my deck, while the Commander’s ability is on the stack. Then it sees the top card at resolution, and I get what I discarded. Is that not how it goes?

Torbran only works with Passionate Archaeologist if your commander is red.
Library of Leng hasn't been errata'd to count discarding as a cost, so it doesn't count sadly.
This is the ruling Carum is talking about:
"You can't use the Library of Leng ability to place a discarded card on top of your library when you discard a card as a cost, because costs aren't effects."

@@Devn8tr Yes, it works with looting, but remember you're discarding first. So you'd just end up drawing the card you just discarded.

So I picked up this deck earlier today without watching this video or reading the decklist. Cracking it open and looking through the cards, I was really surprised that a) Jeska's Will was reprinted and in this deck omg and b) a good number of commander staples were also in the deck. Best $50 I've spent on Magic cards in a long time
As a French player I m really happy that Stolen Strategy is in there, as it was not available in my
language. Let's hope for a Selvala, Heart of the Wilds in a commander in the futur.

I have added Basking Rootwalla and Blazing Rootwalla to my deck. They are severely underpowered but I keep them in there. Basking Rootwalla was one of my friend's pet cards a long time ago. He doesnt play anymore so i think its a nice tribute to him. My goal with the deck- If I get the opportunity- is taking someone down with one of these tiny lizards.
Do not put Library of Leng in this deck! Library of Leng will not allow you to put the discarded card on top of your deck because it only triggers when an effect caused you to discard, not if you discard the card to pay a cost; I.e. to activate Faldorn’s ability.

Flameskull is fun and on theme. 3 mana flyer, when it dies you exile it and the top card of your library and you can play one of them until end of your NEXT turn!

I think Ashaya and Valakut Exploration have good synergy with Faladorn. Good little engine to exile lots of your deck.
I’m sure this has been pointed out but you don’t exile flashback spells (like faithless looting) from your graveyard, you cast them and then they go into exile from the stack and do not trigger Laelia.
Passionate Archeologist is going to be great in existing Prosper decks
i hope when they do the Backgrounds episode they bring up the fact that if you drop them in the 98 of "Partner" Commander decks, they affect BOTH Commander creatures and can double down on the advantages they produce.
I personally love [[Hardy Outlander]] being a Stackable effect when you swing with both commanders.
Pretty sure the Commander needs the ‘Choose a Background’ text in order to be able take one.
@@Naim_less this is true but just like how you can put Kraum for example in the deck not as a commander you may put a back ground in the deck even though it is not a commander perse. You would have to Tutor it up or draw it to cast it just as you would the Kraum

Faldorn + squee + food chain = a fun little infinite combo. Plus food chain is now like 30 ish dollars now cause it got reprinted in double masters
Now all we need is a Jund cast from exile commander and it ALL comes together.

You don't exile faithless looting from your graveyard, you cast it and if it would go into the graveyard it goes into exile instead.
Yeah, this. Rather than Flashback, it's worth looking for effects that exile cards from the graveyard and then either cast or copy them from there. Arcane Bombardment and Mizzix's Mastery come to mind for the latter.

Just thought of this, but if I have Pako and Haldan on the battlefield, they would both get the Passionate Archeologist ability, right? So I would deal twice the amount of damage? Like if I played an Arcane Signet from exile, Pako and Haldan would together deal four damage?

It's good that people are informing each other, though. And it's easy to forget or misunderstand the "if an effect causes you to discard a card".
I also like what some people are saying, which to my understanding is true; you can put Backgrounds in the 99 or 98! So if you have two partner commanders... notice the Backgrounds say "Commander creatures you control"? That's both. Heck, it's all 10 if WotC ever release ten creatures that can all be your commanders at the same time.
Containment Construct basically says “All cards in your hand have Madness cost equal to their mana cost”, except it even also works for lands 😊. Nice finding from you guys!

27:01 It's important to note that it's pay one, tap Faldorn... AND discard a card. Just to take a chance at the top of your library.

I'm definitely getting this, but I'm probably going to tear it apart. I love my Prosper deck and there is a lot of card synergies for that, Jetmir, and even Chishiro. I personally hated that precon, but my brother is using it so I am sure that I can give up some of those cards to improve his strategy so he can keep up with me. Otherwise, it does seem like a pretty solid deck all things considered. Maybe this'll change my opinion on Gruul
May I ask why you do the in cards first and the out cards second? The out cards are much less exciting and y’all lose a bunch of energy by the end as opposed to how excited you get when talking about the in cards

Small note: pretty sure Laelia won't trigger when you flashback Faithless Looting (or play any flashback'ed card), because the card isn't being put into exile from your graveyard (it's going from graveyard --> stack --> exile)
Correct. From flashback casting it will not as its being removed stack.
You can also use Rob the Archives in this deck, plus it has the Casualty 1 effect that would let you copy that spell and exile four cards from the top of your library.
As a Dnd fan I'm happy with the DnD flavor they added. A real home run. As a commander fan this set is just okay. I feel like the backgrounds/commanders could have been a little bit more focused. As of now it just seems like a lot of weak random stuff mish mashed together. Would have like more synergy pairs like the precons. The preview card of wand of wonders got my expectations super high though. Possibly the best magic card for me in a long long time.
Got myself this deck and my gf the party time deck. Party time seemed like it could compete without too much game knowledge, whereas this one seemed to really reward proper sequencing and gameplay patterns, can't wait to test them out!
Faldora could actually be a pretty good landfall from exile commander. Bunch of play extra lands spells, play lands from graveyard spells, and just discard lands, to play lands from library, and if you miss play the land you discarded from your graveyard.
37:35. ok, so I just found out this is misinformation. I bought Library of Leng for my Faldorn upgraded Precon because I thought from this video that it would be really cool, But now I found out from someone else that there was a ruling about Libary of Leng that came out before this video, that states that Libary of lang won't work with cost discard (aka won't work with Faldorn), so now I feel ripped off since I basically spent time and effort to get a card that does nothing of value in my Faldorn deck. Please fix this video or issue an apology/warning so no one else will get misinformed again. thanks.
oh, and I should've probably said this as well. the main problem isn't about the card itself. It's how Jimmy and Jake talk about how it is possible to use lLbrary of lang with Faldorns ability when that is wrong.

Love the idea being that the video is for a budget upgrade, and they mention a single card multiple times that costs more than the entire deck. Yeah, I know they don't mention parallel lives during the upgrade discussion, but it's still a bit disheartening to see a card that would clearly be an auto include if it was affordable because it would be so good in the deck. I really hope double masters reprints parallel lives and doubling season.
I got the osgir precon which first has lealia and I’ve been looking to play it in a deck for a while. Saw this commander and thought this is the perfect deck for it… it’s reprinted in it.

You guys really kinda are chopped up on this. Laelia Blade Reforged does not trigger off of Flashback casting and you do not get discard triggers from Library of Leng from your commander as its a cost not an effect.

Thanks for the deck upgrade. TBH I don't like a lot of the extra discard to draw cards when we could be exiling with cards like Reckless Impulse would seem more optimal? If we're already discarding with our commander, I get we need to refill our hand but I don't know if we're going to net more cards with more discard.
The new adventure cards Emerald Dragon and Dread Linnorm seem like solid budget adds.

Why did we not discuss Madness spells at all? Extremely synergistic. Also Magewright's Stone, Instill Energy or Nature's Chosen, Seeker of Skybreak, or Thousand-Year Elixir for the untapping synergy. Quest for Renewal would be very good add as well. You could also consider Vitalize as a bit of cantrip if you cast it off of Faldoran's ability.
I'm not sure exactly with the discard synergy as you need a few other cards to make the discard synergy work.
Agree and there is only a couple of payoffs for discarding. You will then find yourself discarding instead of exiling to make wolves
I agree I don't think faithless looting and merchant of the vale are really what you want in this deck, but conspiracy theorist and containment construct are probably good in the deck

Rob the Archives seems like near perfect for the deck imo. It gets you almost always 4 cards for 2 mana, you should have enough wolves to sacrifice to its casualty cost and it is not soooo bad without it.

I don't think you cast the background before Durnan, definitely feels better if you cast him on turn 2/3/4 then cast the background when you are able to swing and get value off that undaunted creature.

Yep, she had amazing synergy in that deck, just from herself and prosper, let alone the myriad of other exile effects you play. She usually eats removal and this allows prosper to stick around

I think something of note is the value shown on screen of the $5 or more cards. It said only $17 but the price goes above $50 for them. Given that the value listed for the $2+ is so high too, I feel the values are off.
They mixed them up, I think. 52 is 5+ cards and 17 is 2+ cards (not including the 5+ cards)

My honest opinion, the set was not good as a whole BUT it was AMAZING for so many archetypes and gave support to new archetypes. So basically horrible for pre-relase and drafting. Amazing for every other format it is legal in.

Unlike the Prosper, Tome-Bound Deck, The Faldorn, Dread Wolf Herald Deck can have a token doubler enchantment spell in green which there are three of, But I am going to get the Parallel Lives one just for this deck.

If you're willing to spring for a food chain you have an infinite combo making wolf tokens when the commander is out.

I'm gunna run the background with wilson, refined grizzly. hes a 2 drop so you can get it running quicker and he also has ward to protect him. plus hes cool af.
I drafted him as my pre release commander with the white token generator background. Was pretty good, bug the white double strike one would have been better. I probably could have won then instead of second

Sand wyrm convergence won me my first game with this deck because my opponent had all flyers and no removal spells. Lol
Exile casting is mono red and did not originate with Prosper, Tome-Bound, and isn't Rakdos. It's just how Red draws now outside of rummaging. The overall theme of playing from exile is 5-color, and is a natural synergy of multiple different mechanics. Cascade, Suspend, Rebound, Adventure, etc;
I'm working on a 5-color Exile matters deck. No proper commander for it yet. Both Wizards and the player community have something against exile matters being 5-color.
I have First Sliver as my 5c cascade commander, which runs a lot of the exile matters cards. Cards like Maskwood Nexus become terrifying in it, and it leans heavily into the chaos value engine. Something to consider

the best choice would be golos if he wasn't banned (you cast the 3 cards from exile with the wubrg ability) (but that was thee best any theme commander ever made though)

I'm taking cards from this and putting them into prosper. Prosper is better in my opinion. BUT I will be making a wolf deck with this commander.
Prosper is waay better and he's gotten better and better with each set that's come out adding red exile/treasure effects.
