Following Nottingham Forest's suggestion that VAR Stuart Atwell is a Luton fan, Sky Sports News reporter Rob Dorsett explains how the PGMOL appoint officials to matches.
Forest accused Attwell, the VAR for their acrimonious 2-0 defeat at Goodison Park, of being a Luton fan after a series of appeals for penalties by the away side were turned down.
Forest were waved away on three separate occasions by match referee Anthony Taylor with the on-field decisions endorsed by Attwell in the VAR hub.

PGMOL aren’t accountable to anyone which is extremely dangerous for the game. Not even the media and it’s paid pundits have the guts to hold the PGMOL accountable
The PGMOL should be charged Forest are the victims here
Most corrupt officiating in the world and its not even close.
It has alwyas been like dis in the prem since the 2000s
@@Bobbiez_editz I would say way back since the inception of the premier league
you have no idea what corruption is😂
@@KopJustin Fair point
@@jo_magpie if thats not corrupt idk what is. Literally every team got affected except for one. And everyone knows who it is, why did michael oliver go to referee a match in the uae?
These “elite” officials are rubbish. Any school kid who is given the black and white rules of the game could do much better.
How come Mr Oliver, who had a private contract out in UAE, seems to be favoring City?
a hand ball some how resulting in a goal kick this time
surely there's something going on there
This is what the media should be concentrating on, look at the league table for teams screwed by VAR, Liverpool are the worst hit, Arsenal have been hit badly too, City have benefited however. Their owners are from Abu Dhabi, part of the UAE, where Oliver was paid to referee in a league owned by City's owners. Now, no one is saying he's corrupt (even if the facts make it look that way) but that's a conflict of interest that shouldn't be allowed to happen. Corruption happens in places it's allowed to happen. Remember when Colina had to retire from reffing because he did an advert for the sponsors on Milan's shirt? That was in Italy, home of football corruption and even they wouldn't let that fly
@@reluctantsocialist2670Its everyone except city, united get destroyed by refs everyweek
media rushing to run damage control for their mates at PGMOL
It's unfair that Nottingham Forest are going to be punished for this, for voicing their concerns.
If they are, you will then see Marinakis in full force. This is a business a multimillion pound business
They didn't voice their concerns, they crossed the line by insinuating that an official was bias. Voicing their concern would have been making a formal statement that they did not agree with some of the decisions in the game and asking for some sort of review or reform. Targeting an individual official was childish and hugely unprofessional. A draw would have been the best result for Luton anyway, so not only was this accusation wrong, it was also illogical.
Sky are basically running pgmol propeganda at this rate
and talksport.... who wants to listen to this rubbish 😂
Forest dropped an absolute hand grenade of a tweet and then went silent. Absolute masterclass in upsetting the applecart.
Everyone knows sky would take a different stance if yesterday's game was City vs Liverpool and an Arsenal fan was on VAR. Especially Nev and Carragher, absolute puppets.
The proper response would be to investigate the banking and assets of friends and family. If you think boxing was the only sport with fixing due to bets, you’re naive.
Handball against Wan Bissaka, but no handball against Grealish? Oliver is getting his pockets stuffed by UAE
or Ashley Young who's arm was outstretched away from his body
If pgmol which is a limited company want to be independent of club then they should be answerable to the clubs, which are businesses aswell, when their mistakes leads to financial loss to the clubs
No they should be answerable to the FA & Premier League, the clubs cannot have any control over officials, that would only cause even more havoc
Nottingham has balls . Saying what everyone is thinking . This is for football . Not just Nottingham Forest . Sack these refs
Said no one outside Nottingham
@@agentancelotti2985 say alot of people outside Nottingham. 50 million views . Someone needs to do it .
@@nottingham1 views don’t make opinions I agree you should of had 2 pens but let’s not diversify from your terrible performance and manager and even if you scored the 2 pens it’s only a draw which Luton would have preferred so makes no sense
@@agentancelotti2985Literally everyone is saying that besides the media!
Bobby Madley got removed from Bristol City vs Birmingham because he was a Huddersfield fan and they are both fighting for relegation, surely this is the same situation, but they havnt changed him.
A ref gets three decisions incorrect in a row And somehow its the teams fault
The team is not at fault for the officials' decisions, but their reaction to them. They should have released a formal statement that they were not happy with the decisions in the game, asking for some sort of review or reform of VAR. Saying an official was a Luton fan and insinuating he was bias is where they crossed the line.
We don’t know if Stuart Atwell is a luton fan? Yes we do, there’s an article stating this.
how are the pgmol the victims lol
Why is the Premier League corrupt? It is.
Everyone makes enough money and the Big Teams can win without any help.
Just give us a Fair Game before we say 'goodbye'. To be honest I already have.
The fact that an ex-official has indirectly accused the PGMOL of biased decisions is quite damning. It suggests that decisions really do get influenced by a refs feelings towards a particular team. This season has been especially bad. Before VAR, refs had an excuse, but now they simply don't. The decisions have been especially egregious to the point you have to question the PGMOL of misconduct
In England the Victim (Nottingham Forest) is Accused that's unbelievable 😢😢😢
Forest need to back up their accusation or they get charged with undermining the integrity of the game.
No other options.
If you swear at me at I punch you in the face, I will get in trouble. Its the same here. Even if the decisions were incorrect, insinuating the official was bias is crossing the line (the proverbial punch). If they had released a formal statement disagreeing with the 3 decisions and asking for review or reform of VAR they would have had everyone on their side. Forest made the punch, and now they will be lucky to get away with a fine for their behaviour.
*STOP PROTECTING THESE MATCH FIXING REFS*
And here comes operation protect the pgmol……
I'd rather watch Goldbridge and other club fans than these mainstream clowns
We should go back to where teams, were able to score officials for each matches
If NFFC get relegated by the decisions made against Everton, they will lose millions of pounds in revenue. These same premier league guys will be on NFFC for losses which their referees put them in. The consistency in referee decisions in EPL is horrible.
"And in actual fact Stuart Atwell has a fantastic record as a VAR official" Is Rob Dorsett actually serious?! What an absolute joke. I've seen that clown make repeated errors on VAR on numerous occasions just THIS season alone, never mind previous years. The only people involved in the game that can make huge errors & go home knowing they won't face any sort of punishment is match officials because we're not supposed to hurt their precious little feelings. Managers, coaches, players, even backroom staff will face some level of scrutiny if they don't perform to a certain standard but these refs can go around doing whatever they want & will have Sky & all these other broadcasters together with their puppets rushing to their defence. I don't even support any one of the teams involved in yesterday's games within the relegation scrap but it's an embarassment what happened. It's supposedly the "Best league" in the world & has some of the worst referees in the top leagues in Europe.
I agree, Atwell has been dropping howlers all season.
But that's not enough to accuse him of match fixing.
In fact, it suggests he's just a cr*p ref.
Carra calling it out is STAGGERING 😮
protecting his media job.... what a soulless man
match fixing
corruption....! the media are not allowed to say. 😮😅😊
Every club supporter need to support forest so that the FA and pgmol know that they need to be better
Disagree.
I think they're all incompetent & the standard they are held to is too low.
Too much looking to explain/excuse mistakes rather than putting thing's in place making sure the same errors don't happen again.
But I don't think they are corrupt and don't support statements making that accusation.
Forest's owner trying to influence which referee's take charge of their matches is crossing a line.
Club's should have no say over who referee's their games - it would be a cheats charter.
I support reform to improve referee standards.
Not making inflammatory statements to try and bully them into making better decisions.
And want my club to have no part in it.
The reality is that neutrals see this reaction by Forest as childish and unprofessional. Its one thing to disagree with decisions, its another to make accusations of an official being bias. As a neutral I am sure I am not alone in hoping Luton stay up and Forest go down, because not only have they cheated by breaking FFP, they are attacking officials too.
Can we discuss if the 3 situations werje mistakes of the VAR? If they are then NFFC has a point
If Forest had released a statement disagreeing with the 3 decisions and asking for review of them or reform of VAR then these would have analysed in detail by fans, the media and officials. The fact they made an accusation that the VAR official was biased against them, has waved goodbye to this conversation.
It's one of two things, either the PGMOL puts consistently incompetent refs in charge of decisions, which means they need to be stepped down or they are complicit in the biased decisions or lack thereof, which means they are corrupt.
Same people that calls FIFA corrupt are behind PGMOL shame
Wouldn't mark clattenberg who was a referee of probably spoke to stuart atwell about there favourite teams in the past YES so clattenberg probably knew atwell was a luton fan so it is a conflict of intress as atwell could make decisions favour luton also atwell should be suspended for a year and get no money for that time he CHEATED
The other 2 may be disputed, but that handball of Ashely Young that sent the ball to the corner was a clear penalty. Funnily, the entire 3 instances bothered around only Ashley Young. It's upsetting that whenever a club feel they're hard done by the ref, FA silences them by a huge fine, which is very wrong.
They put an ad in the Local Paper next stupid question 😂
Didn't Ivan Toney get an 8 month ban 😮
shouldnt pgmol make investigation into the 3 incidents instead of forest's statement?
Its been going on for years , the game is bent and same clubs winning the same trophys year after year .
correct
Poor explanation, what about other match officials whose family have season tickets at Luton. If something posity comes out this then its been worth it. I have seen some other incidents throughout the season which are a lesser degree ,punished. Their is truly no standard to rule by, so that brings the game into disrepute.
Stuart Atwell is terrible VAR official. How quikly they forgot City Liverpool game. Doku foul on MacAllister. He is acoward
At least these decisions are consistent with the one made in that game.
Has video contradicting what the onfield ref said happened & took no action to correct them by sending to the monitor.
He's been making howlers all season.
Forest going to struggle to prove he's anything more than incompetent.
Make it compulsory for the referees to go to the screen at ALL time.
@androsc1418 that's not the answer.
Rather have no VAR at all than that.
What a terrible suggestion.
Imagine being in the stadium watching the referee go to the monitor every 5 minutes.
If anything should be a time limit on VAR reviews.
@@M-E_123 The match ref cannot deflect the blame on the VAR.
how they appoint :
Howard Webb sits at the end of a long table and laughs manically as Michael Oliver plots about how to restore united to its former glories
They are just talking the views what about the comments am with Nottingham forest
I love the “we are considering our options”.
I bet the FA are having a laugh at that
Why not employ more hands or use guys from championship
Answer: Bribes, corruption.
It's obvious its corrupt ffs they could not make it anymore obvious, but there's too much money getting passed for something to be done.
PGMOL question why their elite officials were not selected for international tournaments. Who on earth would dream of them officiating a World Cup final?
How complicated can it be? It's just a football match
FA cup robbery.
So forest will get charged for speaking the truth 🤔
Last time I checked, free speech is allowed in this country. So the FA will investigate Forest for basically telling the truth and challenging total incompetence. The FA and PL would be better placed addressing the obvious issues with refereeing and VAR.
They never accused him of incompetence.
They alluded to him fixing matches.
@@M-E_123 The thrust of the tweet was incompetence, ‘match fixing’ wasn’t mentioned.
@robertbrown6060 not directly, but they claim bias on behalf of the VAR - otherwise what's the meaning of saying he's a Luton fan?
And they make no mention of incompetence in their initial statement.
So you're talking rubbish.
No way that first statement can be taken as an accusation of incompetence.
Blah blah blah same old story not held accountable!!!
Fa should investigate corruption in VAR integrity instead.EPL Refereeing has been abysmal. All rivals of City have been consistently unfairly at critical moments in the game. M. City however will only get VAR decisions against them when they are 3-0 up or it's too easy a decision (and even then...) .
Power is dangerous. 🙏🏼
Stop sending them to Dubai
Why isnt anyone saying his family are season ticket holders at luton ??
He's lying here, read what Michael Oliver said about Newcastle
Well done Notts 🙌🏾🙏🏾👏🏽🤞🏾👌🏾 We are with you!!!
What’s notts County doing?
PGMOL Refs & VAR team are a DISGRACE the decision against Forest, Wolves, Man United, Arsenal and especially Liverpool
That’s what the FA is good at, what happened to the officials
its simple dont have VAR been handled by refs it so easy, hire a dedicated team with the amount of money wasted by the premier league and FA your telling me they cant get that sorted. then you can get those useless ref back to improving themselves on the field and doing more training rather than have 1 week they are a ref and the next week they are VAR
Been saying this all season.
There are clear steps that could be taken to improve refereeing standards & VAR.
Club's calling match officials cheats on social media and having a veto over who referee's their matches is not going to make anything better.
Neutral refs from other Leagues, eg Anthony Taylor refs in European Leagues and the PL etc get refs from other EUFA leagues??
I am with NFFC.
PGMOL modern day scam
Let's hope Atwell sues and opens the door for Forest to put a case forward. Could change football officiating forever.
I don't want club's having a veto on who referee's their games.
Which is what such a case would lead to.
corruption
Liverpool need to sue pgmol
Wonder why there are no or little controversies with UEFA european matches…. They have real top Refs. Pgmol refs incompetent and corrupted. Most in UAE payroll anyway….
Simple.
If your from manchester your in.
The process is that you have to be corruptible to be a referee in the premier league
The club made the statement. They should be relegated.
Charge them for what speaking the option
Forest should be given their points back after this BS lol.
Howard Webb was so abysmal as a referee. No wonder the group he leads isn't any better.
Yes complete corruption
Unfortunately, it's the downside of technology. People get lazier and subsequently become terrible at their job. Then you are forced to find new technologies to make up for the laziness and reduce errors. Not until people start losing their jobs that things reset ,and the cycle continues.
Oh not forest told thr truth cant be doing that the pundits cant even do that 😂😶
F...k knows do they?
It's currupt,
A Luton Fan, In Charge !!!
What a Joke, put a Manchester city Fan in Charge in the Cup Final.
Let's see what Neville Says about That......
How many complaints or tweets have Forest made about mistakes they’ve benefited from? You can’t just throw your toys out of your pram when it’s you, if you have a serious issue it should be across the board, it’s unprofessional behaviour, and the owner is just a petulant child used to getting his own way
Mate, this is hundreds of millions of pounds worth of money we are talking about.
PGMOL is rotten;they do not want to improve standards (the first step would be acknowledging that the standards are in the toilet). The genius who forgot to draw lines for offside last season during Brentford v Arsenal is doing training for the current batch of refs. Mike Dean called the entire shambles of officiating during Spurs v Liverpool as “good process”, this is after they royally screwed up.
Just look at the number of referees that are from Manchester and compare it to the number from London. London with more population has basically zero referees. Surprise surprise those at the top are from Manchester.
If PGMOL will not improve with politeness, it is time for politeness to leave the arena. Let’s be clear here - PGMOL and Webb have complete ownership for this shitshow.
However, Sky consistently bends over backwards appeasing PGMOL.
,All fans should rally around Forest..at last a club prepared to speak out against the appalling lack of accountability..fed up with media woke protectionism.
...... You have no idea what woke actually means.....
Boo!
The statement does not imply corruption as that would imply taking money. It implies BIAS…….
Skye is part of a CORRUPT HIERARCHY in football…….yes CORRUPT.
No love left in football after what the FA did to the legacy of the FA cup and now this its clear they morallt dont care abour the true progression of english footabll
Sky agenda, killing the goose that laid the golden egg
Even if you insinuate that the official was bias (which is already crossing the line massively), why would a Luton fan specifically choose to make VAR decisions against Forest. Because the best result for Luton would have been a draw, as it keeps both Everton and Forest within touching distance. Now, with the 5 point gap its just Luton and Forest. Forest's reaction was unprofessional, childish, and darn right disrespectful. They will be lucky to get away with some sort of fine for this. With this coming just before their FFP appeal, and the fact they got their deduction reduced for collaborating (appealing is not really collaborating), they will be lucky if their points deduction doesn't get increased from 4 to 5 or 6 points.
the officials got it right. None of the penalty shouts were clear cut.
Literally everybody is saying that all 3 should've gone to VAR monitor, the controversy now is about NF statement. You are mad
YOU HAVE A FAKE CHANNEL..
Such a disconnect between SKY and football fans. PGMOL needs disbanding. It's an incompetent organisation run like a cartel, but SKY will defend the thing that is injuring the sport.
