I had a 70 SS396 Doraville Georgia assembly plant. White with black stripes and black vinyl top. No cowl hood, no gauge cluster, open diff, ac, bench seat column auto. Weird thing was the upholstery. It looked original because of rips and showing foam on the driver's side front bench. But it had vinyl Monte Carlo upholstery front and back seats. Build mistake, or supply shortage?

Because the base 396s were relatively mild low and mid-range rpm torque engines and you didn’t need more gear to get good street performance. You could also order lower gear ratio options if you wanted.

I have a 72 Chevy Nova that needs quite a bit of TLC, I bought it 2 years ago for 1,200 in San Antonio. Bench seat, column shift, automatic, no tach, green interior…?? Can it get any more undesirable than this.?? And did that “barn” have no roof on it for the past 30 years. The interior looks like the windows were left open for about six years . Sitting for 30 years means that it was only on the road for just over 20 years and it’s this hideous looking.??. So much for the dry climate of southern Texas and no road salt. What am I missing here because it’s taking more than just 1970 396 Chevelle.
