  • in this video, i tried all of the 'wrong' ways to break in docs that i've heard over the years! i end up baking a pair of docs, freezing them, running them over with my car, and a bunch of other super crazy ways to break them in! these results were actually surprising to me...

I ran over a pair of docs 3 times. And it really worked for breaking them in. Trick is to put 2-3 plastic grocery bags completely over them and after they’ve been run over once adjust the placement and add an extra plastic bag if needed to avoid damages. I got only one small scuff on one shoe but it was worth it in my opinion. I have the super thick military style combat boots and they would literally tear my feet up and no matter how much I wore them in the house they wouldn’t give.

Hi. If I might suggest a boot shoe tree. tighten up till you feel resistance. Add Saphire Renovateur applied to the area you wish to soften. Add a few more turns to the tree , more Saphir. Two days later job done. I have to admit Docs have changed considerably over the years . Bought my first pair aged 10. My current Docs are 24 years old steel toe capped 10 eye let boots .Sadly they have become a fashion accessory now and not a work boot . However if it keeps the company solvent it can’t be a bad thing . I found your channel by accident. My 22yo daughter has a pair of Docs that I’ve been having trouble cleaning . Thanks to your input I’m pretty sure they are Vegan Docs . I’ll just adjust my technique. My boots I spit shine however my daughter requires a more normal appearance. Thanks very much for your help I appreciate your informative channel. Never to old to learn, so at 56 yo it’s a true saying . Thanks again . Darren🇬🇧

The idea of the water is the same as about heating up and the method with the hammer: It causes the leather to be much softer so it can better fit. It is therefore important that you wear the boots for the hole day letting them dry right on your feet so that the contures of you feet brand into the docs. Water does not destroy leather. Leather is a nature product, it formerly was the skin of animals. Never heard about taking a shower will kill people ;) But the living skin has capabilities to reoil itself after getting dryed out, so in case of using the water method I would recommend to use shoe cream to add the lost fat to the shoes and make them more resistant to rain and puddles ;)
