I always use the 'double sock' method. I put on a thinner high sock with a thicker ankle sock. Have worn Docs for over two decades and have NEVER had a blister.
That's a great method! Nice work!
Jealous! Lol I have a pair of 1914 triumphs and haaaate them. They fold behind my ankle and are so uncomfortable.
I literally just bought my first pair yesterday. Got the 1460s in yellow. So far my feet have been fine, no blisters at all, they are a little tight over the arch of my foot but itâs not painful. My mum says that I probably have no feeling in my feet because I wore 4inch high heels to work everyday for 5 years so these are probably a cake walk compared to that.
Oh how exciting!! Bahaha your mum comes in with real talk!
I just got mine and mine are also only tight in the arch
IVE BEEN LOOKING FOR YELLOW 1460s where'd you find them??!
@@gigibutt8388 soft moc (Iâm Canadian so idk if thatâs helpful for not)
@@Angryoyster Oh I'm not Canadian but ill see
I bought a pair of Mary Jane docs in the early 2000âs and I wore them everywhere to break them in and I had horrible, awful blisters for the first month or so. And then as if magic, they became so soft and luxurious and the soles were bouncy and they were my favorite walking shoes for almost 20 years. I think I ended up selling them bc I needed the money, but even then they were impressively well maintained.
1) Wear them in the house
2)Wear socks
3) BUY THE CORRECT SIZE
Enjoy your docs!
Bought my first pair 6 months back. Mens 2976 chelsea in brown. I poished them 3 times before i wore them out. That did the trick :) amazing boots i love them.
Hey Jen you are missing out big time re:wonder balsam. If you apply first 24 hours before massaging the shoes, it makes a HUGE difference. I did this with the quad 1461 both black and white which were super hard to break in previously and it worked wonders lol
PS I had the same issue with the doc socks! Donât like them.
Yeah I bet I totally am! I've just never got it! Oh 1461s can be so annoying! I think I kind of like the doc socks now but they aren't pretty. Thanks for watching!
0:50 buying secondhand is definitely great for the environment, however do keep in mind that leather molds to your feet. Therefore, if someone else has worn them for a year before you the leather will take their shape and might be uncomfortable to walk in or may position your legs and spine in a way thatâs bad for you orthopedically.
Yes that can definitely happen! Luckily all the ones I have got werent to the point of being moulded to a different foot shape and you can also change up the inner soles to make them fit better!
1. get your correct size
2. prevention is key, so wear them around at home inside a few hours a day, wear thick socks, or 2-3 pairs of thin socks, and remember to but bandaid where you know blisters will form. This way you will NOT get blisters.
3. buy the wonder balm from Dr. Martens, as not only does it help treating the leather so it stays in great condition, but it also helps with the breaking process. And best trick of all, apply it inside the shoe at the heel regularly this will helps so much.
You got it đ
thats far too much work
Just got my first pair of docs yesterday! Wore them with thick socks for a basketball game, was out for about three hours. Obviously I was sitting for most of that time, but I did have to go up many stairs for the bleachers, and walked a bit when parking, getting concessions and such. (Probably walking/standing for 30 minutes or so in all) My feet hurt a bit by the end, but no blisters! I did notice the fronts were a bit tight. I stuffed three pairs of socks in them and tried again today. The front seems to have stretched a bit and is much more comfortable to wear now. They're still very stiff, I walked around my bedroom for about five minutes and wore them sitting down for probably two hours. I've used the blow dryer trick twice now and also massaged them. They're not perfect yet, but have been getting better, and no blisters! I hope to break them in in a little under weeks, as I plan to wear them on a vacation that will involve lots of walking.
Youâre like one of the only CZcamsrs I look forward to watching đ
Oh yay!!! Thanks so much for watching
Just bought a pair yesterday for Xmas ⊠and the balm. You video was most helpful thanks.
I just bought my first pair of docs and this information has been SO helpful thank you for this vid!!!
Omg how exciting!! What did you get? And yay, glad it helps!
@@inthewanderyears 1460 nappa!
@@phoebeisphoebe7161 omg the best!
I recently got the platform mary janes and they look amazing, but one of the straps gives me a blister every time, even with thick socks. I think itâs because the straps are carrying the extra weight of the platform soles. Excited to try some of these tips to make them more wearable!
omg nice! Lame about the blister though, hopefully it stops being a problem soon!
Gel moisturising heel cushions are great for avoiding blisters and rubbing on the back of your ankles!
Great tip! I really need to try them some time!
Nice video again Jenn! Mary Jane looks so good!
Thanks so much Shanie!!!
Ahhhh so helpful babes thanks so much !!!! đâš
I just got my first pair, which are the 1461s quad. I walked around my apartment with then on to get used to them, at first I had 2 pairs of socks on and I put BandAids on the back of my ankles to make sure I didnât get blisters there but my feet were completely fine (had then on for 2h) so I took of the second pair of socks and put the shoes back on walked around and did my things for 1h and some movements were more uncomfortable to do than others but it still didnât hurt. The only thing that was slightly aching were my legs since the shoes are heavy so I guess I got lucky with thoseđ
docs socks absolutely saved me when i was breaking in mine (and compeed patches a little later). my only problem with them is that they started breaking down and thinning out in blister areas by the time iâd finished with them. Iâd definitely say that itâs one pair of socks per pair of shoes
Totally!! But yeah mine are falling apart too! Great socks but donât last very long, or maybe they got screwed up from the washing machine/dryer.
I got the Womanâs 1460 Vonda doc martens and this was so helpful, theyre my first pair â€â€
Oh yay!! How exciting, i bet they look soo cool!
I just got my 1461 quads and Iâm so happy Iâm gonna wear them for school so Iâm hoping to not get as many blisters
Hey. Nice vids. I just have a question. Not related to the topic of the vid. How do you store your dr martens long term..
Got my first pair of docs and havenât been able to wear them cuz the arch or my feet hurt so badly. Will try getting the balm and massage
Where did you get your sunglasses from love them so much !!! đ
Just bought the 2976 Warmwair Valor Chelsea Boots and theyâre so comfortable even without breaking them in, gonna try the double docs socks with them too wish me luck :))
Oh awesome!! Good luck!
Update: theyâre so comfy and I basically live in them, thanks a bunch for the tips, definitely helped out. Rewatching this as Iâm buying the national gallery collab sunflower Van Gogh boots tomorrow!!
Sanitary pads are how I survived breaking in my boots in boot camp and kept my heels from getting shredded
Nice!!! The are handy!
just got my first pair mono black 1460s i love em so far
Thatâs super awesome!!
I just got a pair or Mary janes and docs, and I have wide feet so I hope this will help make my feet slightly less squished and more
comfortable â€
Hope they fit good now!
While I have multiple pairs of used shoes, wouldn't they be worse for your feet? They are molded to a different foot shape.
I just got some 1461s and Im currently wearing them tryna break in and so far the only discomfort is the hard leather I don't feel any blisters
Oh nice! Hope you wore them in okay!
I got my first pair like a month ago and damn... I did not imagine it would hurt that much, I wanted to use them the next day but my feet were hurting a lot, now they fit really good, I didn0t imagine tgey woulde get that loose, now I'm thingking if I got the right size... I like your videos, I would like to have as much as you u___u
Yeah the first days can be tough! But glad they have gotten better for you!
I didnât realize and got a half size larger than I would because i usually do 7.5 or 8, and so I got a 8 and my feet donât feel as secure, so now Iâm worried đ
@@Sarah-hq3mw actuakky thnk those boots look low key better when they are a lttle bt larger
@@adamnsandler1607 thank you!!! Iâve been breaking them in and at first I tried double socking them then I was like why? Theyâre already loose, so now Iâm just wearing my regular long socks and itâs much more comfortable, but still as with breaking in new shoes hurting my ankles. But overall really Iâm happy I got the bigger size since Iâd much rather a larger size then smaller, since the double socking made it really uncomfortable and I just canât imagine how much worse it would have been if the shoes were too small.
The "heel gel things" are great.
I got my first docs the 1914s. Only the right heel is turning red fast. I'm not even sure how tight the laces should be but yeah it's just the back.
Oh and pls do a review on the x-girl max shoes đđœ I want them so bad
Maybe I will!! My quick review: they are amazing!!
Just got pair of docs. I ruined my heels with blisters on day one. 5 days later Iâm wearing them with thick thigh high socks that I folded down a few times.
Sanitary pad was a good tips. I could cut them to fit nicely in the heel and the shoe tongue. Just got my first pair and they hurt..
What colour is your hair now as looks lovely on you
I had to walk 3 hours to work one day cos roads were closed with snow. Work boots were new docs and my feet were bleeding all day.
I have worn docs for about 20 years now (I had toddler docs as well) and I can't remember ever having trouble with wearing them in and them being immensely painful. I heard of people buying docs and just giving up on them bc they were so painful. But tbh, I rub the wonder balm on the seams of the doc and on the nose where the shoulder line of the foot should be and I'm fine
That's amazing! Your feet are just made to be in docs then!
Managed to find a pair of the x girl jadon max docs, stupidly thought as they were canvas they'd be no breaking in for a night out... oh my poor poor heels đ
Omg same!! My heel was done dirty but hopefully they fit right for you soon!
How I break into my docs within a week. I heat up my boots with a hairdryer/place them in front of a heater for 10 mins (swap sides after 5 mins if you use a heater). Then I scrunch the hell out of them. No gentle massage, but properly scrunching them with force. Finally I completely saturate them with silicone free mink oil. The leather will become amazingly softer after just one application. Repeat throughout the week. Even daily. Last but not least, obviously wear them. Socks, insoles, and all sort of experiments are useless in my experience.
Could you please tell me the name of the brand for the mink oil?
I stuff my shirts in my shoes! Seems to help!
Anyone has experienced this? I always have tiny scratches around my legs where the shoes [1460] end, even if I wore pretty thick socks but they never hurt so I didn't care much
Iâve recently fallen madly in love with these 90s Mary Janes on Depop. The only thing is that theyâre a UK 4 which seems to be a US 6⊠but Iâm a US 7. Would that be taking to much risk in size?
Hmm slight risk because I have heard the vintage docs may fit a little tighter but I havenât tried to give you a true answer! Sorry Iâm not a huge help!
maybe go to a doc martens shop and try that size on?
My current way is wonder balsam, and a ton of plasters and wearing them indoors for a while. Currently trying to break in a pair of 1461's wish me luck!
That is a good method!! Good luck!
are docs meant to be creased? if not, what r some tips i can use so there not creased
They can be creased and they can not be creased. It all depends on how you walk and your feet! I like creased, gives them character. But if you are worried about that Iâve seen crease guards on Amazon that minimise creased but I havenât tried them myself
I just got my first pair of 1461s in the smooth black leather in a U.K. 7 my usual size. Iâve worn them outside so I canât return and I really like them but they seem a bit big, luckily I can wear big socks in the winter but do you think an insolewould work? Iâve also struggled to find 1460 or normal boots which fit me the 6 is small and tight on the top of my foot and the 7 is too long and my heel slips đ€·đ»ââïž what do you recommend?
Hey Freya! Definitely go for an inner sole! See if you have any that are removable in your other shoes and test it out! Hope it works out!
I have a pair that are big and an insole made a huge difference. My feet slide around much less and I've been able to break them in so they are very comfortable. I think it was just a thicker Dr Scholls insole. It's actually nice to have enough room for an insole because Docs are notorious for having no cushioning, in spite of the bouncing souls.
I just put leather oil and now it's so much better!
Awesome!
So I just got some of the 1461 Bex's for school except I wear skirts so I'll be wearing tights đŹ any tips , should I wear socks over my tights or ?? So confused rn đ
They will look awesome at school! I used to wear socks under my tights if i didnt want to see them but now I wear them on top usually because they look cute!
Tip from me: take a hammer and work on the hard back part. It softens the hard pieces because they get softer by beating it
Just like the ballerinas do it with their shoes (ik they donât use a hammer)
Girl I need to know where youâre buying your Docs lol.
$40 for the socks?
Also the Mary Janes look great! They were my first pair and were also easy to break in. Except for the buckles, that sh*t took forever lol
Usually I buy second hand on depop or at thrift stores, but I recently won a competition which is how I got these ones. Yeah the socks were insanely priced but luckily my Nanna go them for me as a gift!
Yes I love the Mary Janes!! Super easy to break in!!! Had no problems! Thanks so much for watching!!!
Literalllyy wore my Jadon platforms to school & I was only walking around campus for 3 hours and now I have No skin on my feels itâs literally pink skin đ
Oh dangggg! Hope it's recovered by now!
I got my Jadon docs 3 days back and after having a bloody sock today did I realise aah something is not right. So I went to a party and danced in them yesterday and walked 4km today. So the blisters from yesterday burst and now my feet are absolutely raw. My concept was more you wear them faster you break in. But slow and steady is the recommended way. Also one of the yellow stitching got torn. Am I supposed to be worried?
Am I being too harsh with my docs? Aren't they supposed to be indestructible? I see some scratches on the top already. Thanks for mentioning about the folds I was worried about them too.
Wow you are crazy (in a good way)! But yeah slow and steady is advisable! They are good to get roughed up a little and look cool that way so you should be fine âïž
They have a 1 year warranty. You can bring them back to the store and theyâll fix/replace them.
do you have any thoughts about the bex docs? I can't see you mention them on your channel!
I love them! They are a good middle ground, I have one pair with the bex sole and they are so easy to wear!
@@inthewanderyears ah thank you! đ
Happy to make it here first đ
Happy to have you here first!! Thanks!
I have a question, I have those very same mary janes. How do i break in the straps, they are so stiff
The best way is massaging them and bending them with your hands or if you have wonder balsam that works at softening the straps. But I just wore them a few times and it naturally wore in! Good luck!
Wear them while you're young!! I'm 67 and they look like orthopedic shoes. Seriously. I still have my converse knee highs in black so I stick with those. Yep. WEAR EM WHILE YER YOUNG. âșïž
Hahaha as if! Wear them any time! Thanks for watching my videos Linda!
Can you use the wonder balsam on the white leather docs?
The website says: Wipe away dirt using a damp cloth. Apply a neutral or correct colored wax based shoe polish. Buff with a Dr. Martens Shoe Brush to restore shine as desired... Wonder balsam has no colour to it so I would say it's okay, although I've never tried.
I never had trouble with my 1460s or Chelsea boots.. but I just got the jadons and theyâre rough đ
Just bought DM Chelsea 2976 Ambassador. So since they are unisex, I had to get the 7 as the 8 was swimming. Wore them around the house for a week, and yesterday wore them to work ALL DAY 9 hours and the only tight spot was by my right pinky toe. I also had on Darn Tough Vermont socks which were pretty thick. I just need them a little more stretched out, any suggestions?
I just bought a pair of the combat boots unworn from a seller for $80!!! If I bought them online they would have been over $200 đ±
I just wore sheer stocking socks and it let the shoe slide on my foot without causing blisters
Oh thatâs so smart!
Just got the Mary Janes. The fit is 5 stars perfect. Two questions for the expert. Can they be worn sockless after breaking in. And seeking tips/advice for breaking in
i got my first mary jane today, toooooo cuteee đâŁïžâŁïžâŁïžâŁïž
Awww that is so exciting! I love the Mary Janes!!
I been wearing Docs Longer than any of you kids since the 80s and Liquid Mink Oil i never got blisters i have baby feet
Im a 9 in men's and I got a 9œ and it broke in fine
Hi can you make a video on how you lace all your docs?
I've always worn boots, but I just bought my first pair of shoes, mary janes, and I'm having a difficult time with them. only my right foot though. right on top where the strap crosses over. I've tried wonder balsam, hair dryer, soup cans/soda cans, thick socks, buckling them tight and loose. nothing is working. I've wanted these shoes for 10+ years. I'm very frustrated. I never had any problems with the boots. they always fit. the shoes are the right size. it's just that one spot on my right foot. any suggestions?
try maybe pad on the top or mink oil??
they should break in 3-6 weeks. Depends what methords you are using.
KT tape is amazing for breaking in shoes lol
Those sock are huge, I did soak them on boiling water and they'll shrink perfectly..
Not be doing a day one walk to the market xD
I didnât know this and I just started wearing them and holy crap my feet have giant blisters
Oh no!!! Hope you recover quickly!

Is it normal for them to take the skin off your heels first wear?đȘ. Feet are in so much pain
That can happen which sucks!! Hope they get better and wear loads of bandaids!
I'm kinda sad I didn't think about the pads trick today. I am watching this after wearing brand new ones today and my blisters bled all over the inside my of white docs đ Should have watched before not after wearing them too work đ€Ł
Oh no!! Hope your feet (and shoes) are okay now!!
@@inthewanderyears They've healed up. I found tape you showed in the video too. will try that next attempt + 2 pairs of socks

Oh shoot! Hope itâs healed now!
Liquid Mink Oil is only way no blisters ever inside and out except on the insole
Just got my first pair i am size 4.5 and the shop lady said to go for size 4 as the size 5 looked a bit bulky and way too long. the size 4 fit great everywerhe other than the top of my foot over the top where the laces end and toe box start, ive walked in them and so cnnot return and really hoping its possble to stretch this area :( any tips/experience with tightness in this area??
I have the same issue.. !
this is my biggest issue as well!!! i have found shoving a can of beans or room temperature soda can in the shoe! i ensure it is under that seam and start with it in there overnight, then gauge if it needs more time
What im doing thats helping first i put a bag inside my boot and filled with water froze for 3days then i got a regular sock then i get another sock put it only half way my foot and the other loose half i fold it up where the seam will land on mu foot and wear it for 1 hour a day.. also i put a candle lol anything will help a can too shove it inside as far as you can and then with a blow dryer blow warm air to get it into that form and then repeat the sock and blowdryer method.. its been 2 weeks and it feels so much better .. i also with my hands fold my boot in half over and over again to make a walking motion!.
Can I wear jadon during my wedding?

I've been wanting a pear of docs for so long, but they were all so expensive everywhere I looked. But today at Ross I found a really cute pair of floral ones for 70$! Let me tell you, I had no information about these shoes except that they last forever. So I wore them as soon as I got them. I did not have the right socks and my heels immediately started to peel. After that all I did was change my socks and add some bandaids and went to the mall for 5 hours. Worst. Decision. Ever. They didn't bleed or anything, but man are my feet sore.
