- How Dr. Martens Boots Are Made | Made Strong. Made to Last
Ever wondered what goes on behind the scenes at the Dr. Martens factory? We took a tour of our original production line in Northamptonshire, England with our host, Snake Denton, to meet the craftspeople behind our boots, shoes, and sandals.
Watch as Snake follows a pair of unmistakable 1460 boots being constructed from leather inspection to lacing - with a few customised flourishes along the way.
Do you have a favourite step? Tell us in the comments.
Our factory in Cobbs Lane is where our 1460 boot was born. Our shoemaking heritage is centred around creating timeless footwear with distinctive design and long-lasting durability. Thank you for watching. For over six decades, Dr. Martens footwear has been adopted and subverted by musicians, subcultures and bold individuals. These people stand out from the crowd - and a pair of DM’s boots or shoes has always accompanied their journey of self-expression.

I bought a pair 1460 MiE yesterday and they are inspected by Sian
Great to watch, thank you. I have a pair of the made in England 1460 the last 3 years and still going good.
I would also love to see a factory clip of them getting made in Asia, the 1460 smooth, please. 👍🙂
Nice to see,I worked for churches down in St James in the late 70s inserting stiffs an other an those shoes lasted for many years
I had my first pair of DM's when I was 10 and changed them for a bigger pair every so often. Perhaps little remembered was that by changing the colour of the laces from black to red showed people around that you were a racist.
My laces remained black, but I was also a skinhead, so had 14 hole boots and cut down skinny jeans (and you thought they were a recent thing, lol). This was well over 40 years ago when life was different.
Such fond memories of a time when the world was full of hate, but it didn't reach into a 14 year olds life. So much was going on back then, but the younger you were, the less you had to worry.
So cool 😊
Amazing video used to live very close. I had no idea they still uk based. However, a Cordwainer makes shoes and a cobbler mends them
The next Alan Partridge. Will have taken lessons from Richard Madeley
Lovely boot shame they only last 30 days before the sole fails!
This was amazing to see. All that hard work in creating a pair of boots. I’m in awe of everyone working there. Very impressive. I love Dr Martens! How awesome a job to have working there. Thanks for sharing 😊
We've got more on the way. Stay tuned
Love this video!!!!
Good to know how my boots are made from the factory.
Thank you so much for all of lovely, hard working people.
However, it seems quite dangerous to working with those machines, especially for those who have long hair and accessories…please be safe❤️
Uhh... I wish, dr martens stores will go back here in the Philippines. Last 2 years, they pulled out all of their stores from our local stores without leaving a disclosure. But I think, it's because of the impact of pandemic. As a result, we'll buy through legit online retailers like zalora.
💙💙💙🤘🏻🤘🏻🤘🏻
Yeah, we know what "cobblers" are, you Brits really are quite cheeky.
🖤Dr. Martens made in England 💪
on,y a few, vast majority in China
@@brianwest7344 and some are from vietnam. They have dm factories there but some says that made in England is always be the best and will lasts even more than 20 years.
Doc Martinez
Shouldn't the guy heat sealing the boots wear something over his mouth so that he doesnt inhale the fumes ...?
"highly unskilled lacer" sounds like a diss to me!
All,doc Martin's say made in England, this should be against the law ,only 2 percent are made in the uk the rest in mainly Asian. I buy solovair ,proudly made in England.
No theyre not, where on earth did you get that from? This is just a tour in a British factory, so ofc theyd say made in England. One of my pair says made in Vietnam and my other pair says made in Lao pdr. Weird comment.
@The_Lost_One nothing weird, all on the Internet, one site even says 99 percent made in Asian 1 percent England, do your research.
@michaelbenton2518 I've done my research, ur the one claiming they all say that they're made in the UK lol, not sure what u think should be made illegal 😭
only the ones made in England say made in England... check inside and you'll see the rest are up front about where they're made
U know made in England is an exclusive version of Doc Marten? Like Made in England New Balance
Ahhh.
When they were inexpensive working mans boots made in England I wore nothing else, now they are fashionably expensive bling made in China nope.
I can see why they are so expensive. Why is it most pairs of boots or trainers one side is bigger than the other. My feet are the same size. This is very annoying. One side is usually too small by half a size and the other feels too big.😮😮😮 I don't like this about the footwear industry just because some people have different sized feet.
Yeah, the whole footwear industry got together to piss you off personally, but it's not you !!!!
I grew up as a teenager in the 70s ,Cherry red 12 hole were my footware of choice. It meant how you were regarded, when you had new boots you had to initiate your boots with someone else, This was mid 70s secondary school, where canes, rulers, headslaps, and being shouted at was an every day event........by the teachers. So the fact the violence was taken up by the pupils. Yeah, you either hardened up, or became a victim with no sympathy. The Smiths , The Headmaster Ritual showed it didn't matter if you were down south, like me, or up North like Morrissey, but that song reminds me of school back then. Personally, i prefer Grifters these days, plus DMs are on the woke train. My old skinhead mate would turn in his grave.
