    Thanks for your video it’s very helpful. Just wanted to say that I find it really useful to have lots of notes written out about numbers of steps and distances so not to get caught out by not knowing numbers.
    Say for instance on a bad day what is the distance you could walk e.g to the toilet? If you can walk outside how far with breaks? If you know the distance just say it and also say ‘it varies’. I just use the examples of my worst day and say those numbers, simply because that’s why I need the support.
    Most importantly if you are in pain or emotional distress , say that you are after every statement. ‘But while I’m doing this (e.g walking ‘ standing) I am in a lot of pain/ distress’ keep repeating this it doesn’t matter how many times!
    It’s a tick box system and is not caring or understanding unfortunately even if the interviewer is! You can meet the criteria the questionnaires set out by just answering ‘correctly’.
    People feel like it’s not wholly truthful to give short and formulated answers but the test isn’t designed to be compassionate to varied circumstances so we just need to get through it.
    Good luck to everyone with all this xx

      🤞 it's always been a downfall with the questions as they do lean towards physical disabilities rather than mental disabilities, they need to either improve their questions or create separate systems for physical and mental disabilities for the future to help the process for others. Understandably someone with both would have to do two forms, but it's better than thousands that need it being denyed with months of stress (and more gov spending dealing with reassessed cases which I'm sure they'd like to cut down) as the questions don't fit their problems.

    • @Estellosaurus
      @Estellosaurus  Před 2 lety

      I absolutely agree. They need either a separate questionnaire or a separate question within the form that is specifically for mental health that you can then skip if not relevant. The process is very much geared towards physical disabilities, mental health needs to be as big of a consideration

    I’m in the US and I have Meniere’s disease, which if I live long enough will leave me completely deaf, I suspect, but also I’m losing balance over time, and it’s degenerative. It can also be painful, and renders you hypersensitive to certain things/noises as well.
    But wait, there’s more! I’m AuDHD and sensory overload is something I need to account for as well. Even if I acquire no other issues than I’ve mentioned thus far, it’s a non-zero chance I’ll be rendered sufficiently disabled before full retirement age 14 years from now, and the way things are in the US certainly doesn’t encourage one to think collecting SSI or SSDI is something you would wish doing unless things are so bad, that living a very poor quality of life due to finances is better than somehow toughing it out as an employee somewhere. Before you qualify, you pretty much are forced to be destitute for an extended period of time.
    Sadly, there are those that defraud it. And as your case involves mobility limitations, it makes perfect sense to me they’d ask all the number of steps. Considering I have times where I’m suffering from severe vertigo from Meniere’s, I’d expect them to question my environment in detail because of that. Even with severe vertigo, I can walk quite a distance, so long as I’m not vomiting if it is severe enough, but that becomes a real safety issue (stairs are fun!), as does driving, and mass transit is… very suboptimal in all aspects where I am, even if I had no sensory issues that cause problems when I need to use it.

    As well as finding out how far you could walk by asking you about the amount of steps, I suspect she was also testing what your memory was like.
    I would advise using the Equality Act to request reasonable adjustments, for example that because you have memory and concentration problems that you are going to record the assessment. They then have to give a reasonable reason why you are not allowed to do so. Also they should provide a reasonable alternative such as a transcript of the call or their recording of it.
    It is about your ability to function, so if you have said you can't manage or have difficulties bending down, walking, lifting things on your forms...then you have a pet, say a cat. They will want to know if you are lifting it, bending down to put food in it's dish, etc.
    It is a good suggestion to take notes. If the Assessor is working from home and wants to put you on to speaker phone, you may want to note if there are any background noises like people talking. Or if their family members or pets interrupt and/or distract them. They should be paying attention to carrying out the assessment and not allowing themselves to be distracted from that task. Also you have a right to confidentiality, not for their family listening in and then telling stories later in the school playground or the pub. That may seem a bit paranoid to some people but it does happen.

      I got a reminder text yesterday. Then got a reminder phone call, which I have an issues with because they did not inform me I would get a reminder phone call in their letter or in the text yesterday so it came out the blue from my point of view.
      Unfortunately they called when I was struggling with trying to get home with shopping where there is busy traffic. DWP and IAS have a duty of care, calling someone unexpectedly could distract them and place them at risk...such as if they are trying to cross busy noisy roads or while you are trying to get out the bath to answer the phone and slip!
      If you have such an incident definitely tell them about it during your assessment.

Remember although they may deny it they are doing the same thing their end. They WILL lie throughout their report and claim you said things you haven’t and not said or stated things you have. Do keep asking to repeat the questions and clarify it. ( mainly for your recording so as it can transcribed more easily for the tribunal).

    When I first applied for pip I got rejected twice, because of the two assessors I could tell had no sympathy or understanding for my case.
    On the third time I had to go to court and pour my soul out to get the point across and the judges them self saw what those assessors could not see and my solicitor was a God send. I won my case and they back dated my money, but it came at a cost. My anxiety was through the roof and I felt so humiliated that the whole ordeal felt like a nightmare.
    Since then, every time I think about all the things I had to go through just to get the extra help I can't help but feel a little traumatised. And now I too face my telephone assessment today I won't lie I'm scared because I know how hard it was for me to get it in the first place and I feel like it's going to be just as easy to lose it.

Then during the 2 hour interrogation I was asked after almost every question about it. Eg washing questions I was asked "do you SH in the shower", then for walking distance I was asked "do you SH outside", cooking I was asked "do you SH in the kitchen" etc etc. It was horrible to say the least. He also kept repeating what I said back to me but in a way to make me sound better/healthier. I'm still waiting for my outcome but I'm terrified. DWP needs to educate themselves on this , I myself have Epilepsy, Chronic Pancreatitis ( Terminal because it has lifespan I’m at the end of it ) Clinical Depression, Heart Murmur, Chronic Kidney failure. I only have my late husbands pension coming in plus mine. I know I probably claim other benefits but I don't know how to go about it. Thanks again.

    I'm symptomatic of M.E/CFS and terrible brain fog. It's difficult to know how to explain as it changes so much, even hour by hour. There is no definitive distance before i am wiped out. It could be 50 yards or it could be 200 yards max. I can wash and cook but I can not clean or exert myself, it's hard to explain it all when you are always tired.

    • @Estellosaurus
      @Estellosaurus  Před 3 lety +1

      I think you’d have to let them assess what would be you on your ‘worst day’ so when your symptoms and issues are at their absolute worst, how would they affect you then? Does that make sense?

      @@Estellosaurus Thanks for the speedy reply, much appreciated. I am worried that they will start trying to manipulate and confuse me, I am not good at conflict at all. It's hard to really work out a balance of the bad days vs the very odd "better days" for want of a better description.

      @@jamesdoherty2614 From my personal experience, I didn't feel like they were trying to confuse me, but obviously it is different for everyone. I'd suggest that making a list or bullet points of everything before you started - tick them off as you talk about them and you'll know that you've talked about everything you wanted too x

      Hi. Try not to worry - you could contact their customer service beforehand www.mypipassessment.co.uk/contact-us/ who should be able to help you and at the very least help you to confirm if you will be able to hear your assessment properly. You could also ask someone to be there with you if that would help you catch anything you miss x

    Hey estel, hope you’re well? I have applied pip for my mother who previously applied for a pip and unfortunately it wasn’t successful, she want in person and done the assessment again now about 2 months ago she made a new application form and shes got an appointment next week 😭😭🙏🏼 i wanted to know what kinda of questions they might ask? And she can’t speak English i have to translate for her🙂 thank you❤️ this video was veryy helpful ❤️❤️❤️

    • @Estellosaurus
      @Estellosaurus  Před 3 lety +2

      That’s great that she’s got an appointment! The main sort of things they are going to ask are usually based around your mums daily activities, like how far can she walk, can she wash/dress/feed herself, if not how does she manage, who helps her, how much help does she have. They usually will ask about if she can manage her own medication, can she manage her own money, get her own shopping. That sort of thing!

You are allowed to have someone with you to help answer - you can find more info about that here: www.capita-pip.co.uk/en/your-telephone-assessment they need to be over 18 and they say they cannot answer for you but can help you answer and explain things more clearly if you need them too! Hope that helps. Good luck x
