      Lol! The assessor was very polite, and friendly. However, when I got my assessors report he recommended 0 points. Maybe the decision maker will see otherwise ..but i doubt it!

    The most difficult task for me is to admit to myself my condition and explain to others. Years later even my wife does not have a clue what I am going through day in and day out. Thank you for encouragement.

    Glad you had a pleasant experience as the majority do not. After 9 months of appeals and going to court I finally got awarded my claim for 5 years, the process needs to be changed I mean they ask for gp details but never check anything with them it could save a whole lot more time and money and less of a daunting process

    Just did the free PIP test on the link you provided. (That's the only thing that's free there.) I scored myself '0' points because none of the choices were ones I could tick. They are so limited and do not even begin to cover what living my life is like. Hence I've scored myself zero in all of them and I fully expect the callous system to do the same. They are excluding so many ill people through such rigid and narrow questioning. It feels so discriminatory already and I haven't even had my assessment yet. I have no faith at all already. I feel bitter, angry and like people like me (which there can't be many of I'm guessing) just don't count at all and have no value in the eyes of the DWP PIP system.

    Thank you for this. I think many people are so fearful (including me) because the assessors are known to lie on the forms and perhaps have a directive to recommend as many people as possible not to get the benefit. This is because government want people in work and hence they are known to make life very difficult for the disabled or people with health conditions. It's known as a very callous system. So, people are feeling scared because of this and paranoia perhaps sets in as the ill are being treated as suspicious and not to be trusted. This is not the case for everyone but I've watched numerous videos and read numerous comments and this is the general impression I have been left with as a result. I have my assessment on Thursday and I feel sick and light headed at the prospect.

      @@joanneroundhill1796 Hi. I was initially refused PIP. You can call and register a mandatory reconsideration on the phone, which is what I did. (Years before I didn't dare go for a mandatory reconsideration for Universal Credit as I was so intimidated by them, so it put me into masses of debt for the first time in my life.) So this time I swore I'd go all the way, after all the damage it did me not going for a reconsideration before. My initial appointment for PIP was a phone call and it was agony. It lasted three hrs!! I was so exhausted. When I registered my mandatory reconsideration (or whatever they call it for PIP) this time it was easy, and I received a call out of the blue a few weeks later (I don't remember how many) without being warned in advance. It took me completely by surprise. It was a lovely empathetic lady on the end of the phone and the call was no longer than 20 mins this time. I told her I had no clue what I would do, that I desperately needed help. I was just honest. I can't remember exactly if she told me at the end of the phone call or if I had to wait for a letter (which didn't take too long to be posted) but I got the PIP award. I was so relieved and grateful. Don't hold back at all from being yourself. Be perfectly honest about what is going on for you. Tell them everything you need to tell them. If you don't get it, (and I understand it's the majority of people who don't get it when they first apply), go for the reconsideration asap and go as far as you need to if you aren't awarded it. All the very best.

    Hi, great advice. My assessment is tomorrow and I’m wondering what your thoughts are asking the assessor what their background is regarding their job (incase you have to take it to a tribunal). I’d want to know but also I’d feel asking would offend them.

    • @lauraironstalksms
      @lauraironstalksms  Před rokem +4

      Hi, I don't think there is anything wrong with maybe asking them if they are familiar with your condition? That way you can get a better idea of whether they have an understanding of what you experience on a daily basis? Good luck I hope it goes well for you.

      @@lauraironstalksms Thank you! I didn’t end up asking but they seemed really knowledgeable. I did ask over one condition ‘do you understand it’ they said yes and knew a lot about medications. They seemed to prompt me for more and even repeated one of my previous answers and asked if it was the same for another condition. I have poor working memory so I felt like she was trying to help me. I did get prior consent to record also. I’m still expecting a 0 as you just never know.
