Jimmy I’m sorry to hear about the passing of your father. I know you make him proud every single day!
I hope you stay on creating content for a long time jimmy. It really fills me with joy.
Jimmy, My heartfelt condolences. I enjoyed watching your visits with your dad back in the day. May he rest in peace. ❤
Thank you!
The only thing I don't like about these videos is that I have constant anxiety because I know the video is going to end and I just want to spend my whole day watching these videos! Thanks for the awesome content! Looks soooooooo amazing! Those stone foundations/steps/etc are just amazing.
Thank you! 🙏🏼
The dry set stone is seriously impressive.
That foundation wall and stairwell is a work of art. Is quite amazing. The craftsmanship skill and eye to have to do that work is incredible.
Ken is the stone wizard. I’d love to spend a week or two with that guy working on stones
He needs his own CZcams channel
I really envy your ability to find true craftsmen to partner with you on your projects. As just a normal consumer of the services of folks in the trades, I struggle to find people that will truly do good work - even when I make it clear I'm willing to pay what it takes to get quality. Far too many people just want to get to the next job as quickly as possible, and their standards for craftsmanship are very low. They just want to use cheap materials, slam-bang them together and move on. It makes me crazy!
That drainage system and foundation is IMPRESSIVE!! 💪 You have one hell of a team there. The guys operating the mini-hoe are surgeons with that thing!
I'd have liked to have seen filter cloth around the drain. Otherwise it'll get clogged with clay. What you do is you put down stone, cloth, stone, then the pipe, more stone and the cloth over that. You do all of that to maximize filter area.
Ken is some kind of craftsman. Neat to see his progress.
I learned new words today. Like, Chimaney, and trought.
You’re doing great Jimmy . Anyone saying otherwise has no clue how hard this work truly is. This is going to be a Beautiful home 🏠
I would think you would want landscape cloth over the gravel to prevent the dirt from eventually getting in.
Great job, guys! The straightest tool on the job site is your eyeball!
Dude you picked one hell of a project.
I hope that the ghosts appreciate all of the work you’re putting in.
“Somebody else’s horses” are the perfect kind of horses! Same here - I love having them around but don’t want to ride, care for them, etc.
Doesn't get any better than, "Jimmy doin' Jimmy things". I'm already excited about the next instalment. Thank you Sir for sharing your hard work with us all. Take care my friend, Love and Respect from North London, UK 👊❤
🙏🏼❤️❤️
Guarantee that house will stand for another 230 years. The old ways, with natural materials were always better. It will be beautiful when you get finished. ~ Can't wait to see the leather studio as well. - Remember to take a day for yourself and your mental & physical health. Don't push it too hard. Love ya Jimmy.
🙏🏼🙏🏼🙏🏼🙏🏼
Long time fan of yours Jimmy. So sorry to hear about your father. Much love from East TN man ❤
Mr. Moore, what part of E. Tenn are you located? I'm in the Tri City area...
@@garyjones2582 I’m from Cocke county
Thank you❤❤❤
@@jonathanmoore467 ok.. well you take care my friend and stay warm...
@@garyjones2582 Thank you neighbor! Same to you
As a kid, in the 60's, I grew up in a 200 year old stone (2' thick walls) house in Duncannon, PA.. (Clarks Ferry Tavern) The town has bought the house, and is restoring it, because the previous owner had gutted it. There was a few wooden sheds on our property, and I remember a neighbor had a small carriage barn. The best part was the built-in ladder that went to up a level.
How often did you eat at red rabbit?
@@embeaston Not sure! My parents knew the owner. I remember going there a few times. My dad was Civil Service, so when they closed the base in Harrisburg, we moved to San Antonio, Texas in 1966. I was 12. My dad told me stores about the canal that went up the Juniata River, across from the Red Rabbit. Funny thing about the Red Rabbit, it closed in the Winter. Locals called that section of land, The Island. We went to a Drive-In Theater further up, where the highway splits to either go to Newport or New Buffalo.
Gonna be beautiful for sure! 😊
Forget stone, Ken is worth his weight in GOLD!! It's great to see that he has a team learning the skills that he has learned through the years spent working with stone. Loosing that knowledge would be the worst thing to happen. Looking forward to the next instalment 😊👍👍👍👍👍👍
"There's only one me". We're all thankful for that Jimmy!
Skilled craftsmen doing what they do, nice to see Ken with an apprentice, there’s still hope!
Ken is a hell of a stone guy those stairs almost look like they lead down to a crypt instead of a cellar loads of character comes through every shot it shows them brilliant restoration jimmy as per usual
Here in Florida, those 8 x 8 sill frame supports would be $1000 apiece. No shit. When Jimmy said this entire project cost him $6000, I took that to mean that most of these craftsman donated their time and some supplies.
"If it LOOKS straight, it IS straight." I first heard that or saw it on a Diresta video some time ago. To me, it means to trust your eyes and your experience. I've taken that to heart in my projects. Thanks for your willingness to share your talents, Jimmy D!
I know that you're busy and that you probably won't get a chance to read this, but i've been waiting for this video to appear. Great work. I love your passion and doggedness. I can't tell you how much I enjoy your channel. I'm struggling with my own renovation and you give me more than enough inspiration to get it done. Keep 'em coming! Coming to you from Tumbarumba, New South Wales, Australia.
Thank you! ❤❤
Jimmeny and his chimmeny, hope its foundation is good so you won't need any rad-iators. ;)
Love the series, I'm learning a lot. Thank you for taking us along.
Love watching a craftsman at work. The work you and your friends do will never get dull for me. Horse barn / work studio looks awesome.
Sir , your shack is really coming along . You have it standing tall ! . Look’s great !Thanksfor allowing us to accompany you on the journey . Cheers
Fantastic progress on all fronts, Jimmy. Joe's looking down from heaven with a big old smile on his face.
Building a house looks like a deeply satisfying experience. Though when it's a first-person experience it must be mostly exhausting, at least till the project is done :) Thanks for the video Jimmy!
I can’t believe how great the stone stacking looks! It is so beautifully done
This project has been a long time coming. Thanks for sharing this wonderful journey with us. The horse barn looks terrific. What an evolution from the original skeleton. Your house renovation is truly impressive.
Wishing you and your family a blessed holiday season filled with gentle seasonally appropriate weather and restful evenings. Peace brother
Sorry to hear about your Dad. Big hug from England x
Ken is a master artist and makes the stacked stone look amazing. I can't wait to keep following along on your journey and seeing this restored to a beautiful home!
Ken and his team do amazing work. French drain is a great solution for keeping water away from your house. After all the demo, it's really nice to be able to start putting things back together again. Thanks for sharing!
Such a difficult time, Jimmy. I loved it when you visited your Dad with his mountainous 'collections'. A real character. All love to you and your family.
Love the whole idea about restoring that beautiful old house back to glory.
11/27/23..ahh yes Jimmy, old house in t'country is looking much better. Much enjoyed the voice over describing (compressing) many details into an easily understandable presentation. Anxious to see more of 'country' house renovation.
Horse barn, wow! It's a great looking...wood, hobby, furniture making/restoration space...but did you say ... horses...? Hey, they make a nasty mess! A beautiful building/barn like this is better utilized for more of your 'Make' activities..seminars, instruction etc. Anxious to see this building when finished. Great combo of videos today!👍🔨🪚💪😊
An incredible task, finding that people still do this is heart warming.
I feel the struggle of "one me", most of us do....but it's coming along 🎉. Have a great week Jummy
Jimmy, you just know how to be a happy man. Huge respect for that.
tip for in the future: you can hit the tenon with a hammer repeatedly and make it thinner. makes it go in mortise easier. after a few minutes/hours the wood expands and makes it super tight and strong. love the videos dude! thanks!
Oh yes
I'm in the middle of my own "diresta-ration" (minus Diresta) on a duplex originally built by JD Rockefeller in 1892 for the top guys building Standard Oil for him. And you open up a wall and find all kind of surprises and problems, so i feel your pain!
re: 23:30 using the pvc pipe to roll timber..."when in rome, do as the romans"
I am so very glad to see you are restoring this house. Too often, older homes like this are simply torn down and a new house built. It likely costs more in both time and money to do it your way, but to me you wnd up with a better home with tons more character
Farmer Technology = horse sense + hard work. Great to see the professor passing on his knowledge.
I'm glad you're giving that house what it needs. After the half asseries that were commited against it to leave it in its former state, it honestly deserves the love. :)
That basement takes me back to the OG jimmy shop.
I'm glad someone with lots of money was able to save this house. Bless that money
Before I retired I was the project manager for renovations and additions for an architect. Basically my job was doing what you're doing now. You're doing good! Looks like you got the right help. Can't wait to see what you turn it into.
Learning a lot... Keep them coming appreciate your sharing the build. It looks amazing!
This is the best show on TV right now. A team of craftsmen doing it right. Attention to detail!. What i like is the vibe you give off dealing with your sub contractors and others. Very much in charge as a building owner should be when involved in a massive remodel.
The Fonzi slap haha you made me feel old Jimmy.
That’s a tremendous amount of undertaking!
Your schedule 40 worked to move those beams, but personally, I’ve found a frisbee to be a better tool. She skids right along and never needs readjustment. 🤷🏼♂️
Excellent work, and your stone mason is clearly top shelf.
👍👍
Great idea! Consider it stolen. 🤣 Thanks man.
That's some beautiful stonework!
That little staircase to the basement is a thing of beauty. Really, really nice.
The stone work looks amazing!
I just can imagine all the concret freaks losing their minds... :D
Humanity has survived without it for some years now. It's completely useless on this type of building.
Congrats Jimmy for showing that we can build without it.
(I'll show your videos to my students in the architecture school)
Thank you!
Been a long time sub for you Jimmy. I LOVE this series, thanks for taking the time to film it. I know it can't be easy setting up all these shots.
23:41 I had to move 6x6 x16s by myself when I built my deck years back. So I know those are heavy. I made a small dolly using Harbor Freight’s cheap wheels, all thread, and some scrap wood. Worked well but the one end was still heavy.
I then built a somewhat movable tall gantry and HF’s chain hoist to lift them into place.
So fabulous to see a man of vision making an idea real with the help of kindred competent folk: Awesome motivation, inspiration & method. So sorrow to learn of your loss. I have lost both my parents & it is hard beyond believing, only time heals these terrible wounds. Thank you for sharing!
Thank you 🙏🏼❤️
👍👏oh heck yeah, thanks Jimmy. the "horse barn" is going to make a awesome studio.
Jimmy, friends and family ask me to build projects these years… a kudos to you for all the years of tips and tricks that give me the know how to do stuff good enough to be requested time and time again. Love ya brother.
That stone staircase is amazing
Love the way jimmy does stuff... not the samurai doing scarves but I feel I could do what he's doing.. so relatable..
I keep learning as you keep teaching. I appreciate all the content you provide. Thanks
You're not crazy for doing this, you do what you enjoy and I love that you are showing all of us your passion!
This was a fantastic update. I enjoyed all the steps. I’m looking forward to the next one.
Great video Jimmy- I am sorry to hear of your fathers passing. Have seen him on your videos over the years and he seemed like a great dad!
❤️🙏🏼
Very nice work Jimmy. I like what you are doing with it.
6:00 I can't help but think about what cool artifacts you would find using a metal detector on your property, Jimmy. 👍😉
I could watch these renovation videos all day. Great series Jimmy, thanks a bunch!
9:46 mesh filter. Filters most of the detritus, but still takes water. Short of a monsoon level of rain, you'll have clean gutters.
Awesome work. That stone foundation is art!
Wow I love the construction and how the drainage is put in! Such a beautiful property! What a great project and home to own!
No wonder the Irish that came here in the 1800-1900s settled here! It looks a lot like their homes in Ireland! The green fields and the lay of the land contribute to the similarities. I have to limit the CZcams channels I frequent because there are so many fantastic ones(like this one) or I have no time for anything else! This will be a fantastic remodel!
I heard you when you talked about the weather, changing of seasons, and the earth repairing itself after the drainage was installed.
Our fathers are our first inspiration RIP.
🙏🏼🙏🏼🙏🏼
Thank you for taking us along on your journey!! You have a great team to help you, and, how awesome is Ken's stone work!! He is just amazing!!
Love the series, Jimmy. Ken is a true artist with stone.
this is so captivating to watch !!! so much detail into the work and shared.. love every single step so far ! Greets from birmingham UK !
Absolutely beautiful work they do with that stone laying. a real labour of love. We call that style of drainage a ‘French drain’ in the UK… and in France maybe they just call it a ‘drain’
Amazing update and you are putting so much back into that house! Stay strong buddy through this difficult time and thinking of you all!
Much love Jimmy! Favorite series yet!
So sorry for your loss brother.
Watching you rebuild this house is one of my favorite videos to watch during breakfast. Stressful for you is relaxing for me 😜
That stone work is incredible
Amazing work and video. Very clear you're working with some really skilled folks.
Very happy to see you back at the house. I always enjoy construction videos that you do.
Looking forward to episode six.
“There’s only one me, though…”
Damn straight. 🙌🏻❤
These are the best videos on CZcams. Thanks Jimmy!
Great work and keep on filming, Jimmy. Many of us are waiting on every new video. Thanks!
Really love the beautiful stonework. It really sets the place off. Keep up the great content.
What an ambitious project. Cool work on the drainage and an amazing amount of work--Keep at it Jimmy!
Amazing work on that foundation Jimmy & Crew! Looking forward to the next update and hope that you had a wonderful Turkey Day! 👍👍🔨🔨
Nice video. Awesome work. Back breaking. Mahalo for sharing!
Working like an Egyptian with those rollers. Awesome work!
So much awesome progress. Huge undertakings 👏🏼
beautiful Job Jimmy - thank you for the video
That stone work is beautiful! Ken is a master of his craft!! It's all coming together smoothly! Helps having competent help! 👍😉
