I recently bought myself a 2000 plate Rover 75 Club. It's the 1.8 K series engine (yep ... head gasket drama)
We took the car for its very first Road Test. The Rover 75 was going well ... And Then It All Went WRONG

Not many K series engines left now.
We still look after many many M47's which will easily do 500k miles.
Still service many KV6's but the K1.8 caused so much misery for so many owners.
What a disaster.
We avoid them like the plague 😂

Had a 1.8 rover 75 Great car exact for the engine, that were used. Knew as soon as you said about noise from behide dash, you had a air lock and you should have stopped

I reckon your dad was so keen to do the head gasket that he sabotaged it. Either that, or he's psychic!
I think he must have sabotaged it!
The temperature gauge will only ever come up to half way.. when u top up the expansion tank always do it with a warm engine with it running....not if the engine is really hot though..u can get a digital readout out on the dash for the engine temperature if u use the 19..7 code with the re set button....Bob....

If u and pop do bleed the cooling system do it with the heater set to maximum temperature....

Hi Jon. Hadn't come across your channel before till the 75 appeared. Then rivetted to the screen! Your Dad is brilliant, love the dry sense of humour. Sorry to see the engine blew a gasket, I typed this before the end of video!! I live in Liverpool, sail model boats in Southport, so not far from Preston! I am absolutely not a Rover fan, I know a few people who've had them and they were junk, but, nonetheless I respect your enthusiasm and that particular Rover 75 in that colour does look very good. I had hoped to go to the Rustival and maybe aee you, Dad, and car in person but won't as my own older transport, a Volkswagen Vento, registered May '96 has an expired MOT awaiting some work by my very supportive mechanic, Chris. Had a head job on the Vento ten years ago, at 273,000 miles. By Chris. Still rumbling on at 315,000 miles. Very proud of the old car. Keep up the good work znd I look forward to in depth head gasketry...😂😂😂. Cheers. 👍👍

We always put the K Series coolant system under vacuum prior to filling to avoid air locks, one pocket of air on those gaskets can cause this
That's a good idea!
Only way you should fill the water up on a rover.
The trouble with experience is that it tells you things you would rather not know. Your dad knew this all along but preferred to be optomistic until reality caught up with you both. Ah well continue being optimistic - one of these days you will get a winning hand. Hope the job goes smoothly.

Such a shame after all your hard work but I know with you and your dad it will be repaired correctly it's a shame the rovers have become dogged with head gaskets when running well the K series are lovely smooth engines my dad had a few

Yep good old Rover never will let you down on Head Gaskets , They always blow at some point well at least your dad will make sure it never blows again after he's done it.

This was a New Leak! :O
I took a 414 Rover for an MOT. The head gasket popped whilst it was on the ramp idling. It literally went ‘pop’ and coolant started pumping out of the exhaust tailpipe. What a terrible fault to have present in a mass produced car.

I thoroughly enjoyed the tour of Lincolnshire, particularly the story of the ill-fated Ford Pop 100E my Mum ended up with one, though no fault of her own, someone wrote off her beloved Austin A35 van with the windows. My Mum loathed that Ford Pop, never went past a petrol station!
