I think Death's sentences could be argued down some by the fact he is only pursuing an individual with an active and legal Bounty on his head. Hero or not, Puss is a fugative from the law with a dead or alive price on him. So while he has been misusing his powers and acting beyond his normal purview, it could be argued that he Bounty Hunts as a legal side job. Which... makes things even more grey than they already are.

For Jack Horner, you have forgoten the mass amounts of grand larceny due to the fact that he wanted to own ALL magic so he had stolen a lot of magical items that are crutial to the storys

Puss was a special case in that Death found him to be annoying and took his frivolity with his lives personally.

He reminds me of a top god (the god with the biggest authority and highest power) whose capable of judging literally anyone. Gods, embodiments of death or any other concept, animals with human intellect and anthropomorphic, you name it.
Death is technically a bounty hunter which would be able to get away with pretty much everything he does in the film with puss. Bounty hunter Laws and such are crazy. And Puss has a bounty as he is wanted by the law.
But then comes the charge of him cheating at his job and wanting to take Puss’s last life himself.

Death getting a Life sentence would be the single most ironic thing able to exist
For the case of death, while still not being particularly within his job description I believe there is a bounty on puss' head, thus either nullifying or lessening his sentence.
Especially since he ONLY goes after him, and has clear knowledge of said bounty seeing as he had the bounty poster.
Counterpoint, Death does not have a bounty hunting license so it is illegal (vigilantism) for him to go after wanted people.
Contra punto: Despite being in Spain it is obvious that this alternative Spain has many of the elements of the United States because people speak English most of the time. It is true that it is a fictional movie, and for that reason we have to assume that the laws are the same as those of the real world until proven otherwise.
@@condedooku9750 While true on both counts keep in mind that while we assume laws, the setting of the movie is much more medieval in tone. This means that rather than assuming the laws of the present day we can use a more accurate representation. Laws everywhere in medieval and even renaissance time periods were much more lax, and correct me if I'm wrong but they at the time did not care whether you were licensed or not when turning in a bounty on someone's head.
Assuming Death is well, death, how would you arrest him in the first place?
I like that Death still got off easy because his crimes are all directly related to the protagonist. In complete contrast to Horner who seems to go out of his way to do harm to every person around him, Death is after Puss specifically and intentionally avoids conflict with anyone other than him.
But that doesn’t excuse any of the crimes he did commit to try to get Puss’ head.
Death: only targets one person, doesent mess with anyone else, notices puss soon learns his lesson, refuses to elaborate further, leaves

Marmalade also used the bad guys to free the Guinea pigs(which is aiding and abetting), used wolf’s “see ya suckers” projection when the meteor was stolen which is also a frame up. He also used Guinea pigs to kill the bad guys when they were driving to save mr snake while also nearly destroying a car tunnel and tore up the streets they were on which is attempted murder
The fact Jack Horner gets more than DEATH says something about how back jack really is.

Gallaxhar also commited attempted regicide (Attempted Murder of the President) as the Probe knew he was standing there. I would add stalking as it's Stalking Susan/Ginormica for Quantomium. I would count Unlawful Entry, twice. The first one would've been a forgiving pardon if it actually shook hands with the President instead of smashing the Piano.
Susan finally adapts to her new life when she quickly moved on from Derick, which means Susan finally owns the Quantomium, which means it's illegal to extract the powerful substance from her without her consent.
Yeah. Gallaxhar is underrated and the most evil Dreamwork villain.

In the first battle with Death, it could be argued that Death acted in self-defense. Puss n' Boots attacked first, and in fact made several attempts to cause bodily harm before Death actually began to fight back.
But death was trying to hint that he wanted to kill puss by showing him his wanted poster and tapping his finger on the wanted dead part of it so puss might’ve been the one acting in self defense since he was threatened

I think Jack Horner could definitely use a few more charges. Examples:
-Grand Larceny: stealing all those magical items
-Hunting endangered species: I’m not sure what the actual crime would be, but I imagine it would be criminal to hunt down unicorns (which we know he has done since he does posses unicorn horns)
-Assault: hitting the Grasshopper in the “what took you so long, idiot?” scene
-Mass murder: flamethrowing the posies. I would count it as genocide, or at least xenocide (given the Black Forest appears to not exist on Earth), but it doesn’t appear as if he’s intent on killing them all for the sake of extermination
-Reckless endangerment: using the Phoenix as a flamethrower when the Baker’s Dozen are near

I wouldn't classify burning the flowers as murder or genocide, since they are just plants that were magically created as an obstacle. Arson or some sort of environmental charge could be used however.
It was never mentioned that he stole the magic items. There is a possibility he bought most of them, since he is rich. The only item that he got illegaly for sure was the map, since the sisters mention how many people they had to hurt. Excalibur is questionable, as its last owner died and no one claimed it as their property before him.

What people tend to ignore is a third two definitions of the term “villain” when it comes to movies.
Either they are an opposing force, or they are evil.
@@theparrishshow9803 you're conflating villain with antagonist, the words are often used interchangeably, but there is a clear distinction, the villain is evil, that's why they're a villain, if they are an opposing force and thus not inherently evil as death is, he is just following his nature, then they are just an antagonist, the same is true of hero and protagonist

In the context of this movie, death is both a villain and an antagonist. He’s an antagonist because he’s an opposing force to Puss, and he’s a villain, because he wants to murder Puss simply because he keeps annoying him.

To be honest, the first encounter with death and the fight between him and puss could technically be counted as self-defense case since Puss did attack first. Plus, Puss is known as a wanted fugitive, and assumed that the wolf was a bounty hunter after the bounty on his head. So, him stalking puss is pretty much surveying your target and knowing what they're doing so nothing on that except possible PTSD for Puss, but the charge on him wanting to cut the middleman and kill puss, yeah that's kind of cheating.

I feel like when he killed the girl by turning her into gold it could be argued that he was meaning to give the hand to her so that she could use it on something she wanted and that she missunderstood his intentions, as her last words were "i missjunged the situation" this could be ruled as negligent manslaughter which isn't quite as harsh as 1st degre murdur.
The fact that Jack promised them "their weight in gold" clearly implies it was pre-meditated.

We say he isn't a villain since he's a neutral antagonist, since he's Death no one gets off the hook with him and he comes after everyone and (nearly) everything
the thing is I don't understand why death was so mad at him. Yes he didn't take anything from his life but he helped for other people he inspired them bruh he even defeated a villain. Also his manners were nice he is a fun guy to be with maybe not that responsible but he always makes a show out of it.

Death himself stated he finds 9 lives absurd, as he decided to live them carelessly as a 'hero' rather than value a single one for what they were worth. He saw each end Puss had frivolous, as everytime he died it was a useless point just for fun, no genuine death that went to protect or stop anything, just to show off. He was furious that Puss never took notice in how his lives drained and didn't even keep track, so he decided that he would take the last then and there as a punishment for never valuing the other 8. Of course, in the end, he stops as he realizes Puss has officially learned his lesson, and will most likely value his final life peacefully until they meet yet again. This is why Death was so livid about it.

In the first battle of Death vs. Puss, I would excuse him for the assault as while he definitely tried to provoke Puss into a battle, Puss was the initiator of the fight and as such, Death inflicting a wound on him could be considered self-defense
Even if Death did throw the first punch. Puss is a wanted man and Death was acting as a bounty hunter, so his actions against Puss are not only legal, but encouraged by the government.
