So, she broke up with Steve Watts - but she never forgot about him. And more than four decades later, Jeanne found him again. Steve Hartman updates us on his recent story about lovers reunited.

This story gives me hope. It reminds me that love has no boundaries.
I also had 1 great love in the 70's & due to me being white & him being black we weren't allowed to be together. We lived in the south & back then society wouldn't accept this .He's passed away now but I'll never stop wondering what if...when I see interracial couples now I long to be in their place.
I am so sorry that happened to you. I grew up in the south and I have never understood how you could hate a person because of the color of their skin. They can't change that.
@@lisamcdonald1820 the same happens in North Africa, in every interracial relationship the black partner is accused of witchcraft to seduce the Arab/Berber partner.

The fact that so many people put so much emphasis on the pigment of someone’s skin boggles my mind. The damage it has caused to so many peoples lives is ridiculous. We are all just people, trying to live our lives without discomfort, but instead with joy and love, why should the pigment of our skin have anything to do with anything!
TBH that was the case for many centuries around the world and sadly it still persisit.

My mother had a love of her life that never came to be, but it was not a color issue - it was a religious one. She was Irish Protestant and he was Irish Catholic (this was in America, but she was raised in Northern Ireland where religion really mattered). Her mother intercepted every letter, etc... and convinced my mom he had dumped her. I think her life would have been far different if she had married for love, and not social acceptance. I wish the couple in this story every happiness.

This story brought tears to my eyes. I'm actually crying as I type this comment. It's incredibly sad to learn that Steve went a whole decade without any visitors. I can't help but wonder about his family, presuming they're alive and well. It's truly disheartening to think that they didn't reach out to him. On the other hand, this woman is such a compassionate soul. I wish there were more people like her in this world.
I hope this one will become part of Steve's Kindness 101 series, if it hasn't been already, with additional updates. I'm so happy they are now supported by friends and family and they both have their second chance at true love.

Am happy that they are together. Love is love. Too bad about what the mother thought. It wasn't the mother's life to live but the daughters life. They would have been a great couple.

Has anyone noticed that the vast majority of the segments on CBS Sunday Morning are far shorter than they used to be!? Probably the New Normal on the length of time folks are able to focus.
Remember this is a segment in an actual tv show so what I think it’s happening it’s that the segments are shorter to make way to longer commercial breaks.

A true love that ended has to be the worst. My mom had it and had always regretted the man she married instead. I understood why because my dad is truly messed up. Her first love also had a miserable marriage. My mom and him were both miserable in their marriages. Her first love passed away last year and we all cried, wondering what could have been, if she didn't make such a horrible mistake.
