Taking Care of Things (Gray Wing and River Ripple PMV)

- This old thing! I decided it's finally time to bring it over to CZcams, since I don't really use my old blog that much anymore. The music used is the latter part of “Taking Care of Things”, by Cavetown, who makes beautiful songs!
So Warriors, huh? I used to read tons of it when I was younger, but stopped for several years, and I’ve only just recently started reading it again. I picked up Dawn of the Clans, since it’s completely new to me, and it’s really good! Going through the books, some of my favorite interactions between the characters were the ones between River Ripple (the blue striped cat) and Gray Wing (the gray cat not having a good time) - their relationship is really sweet to me, and I just like the fact that River Ripple is kind of the unofficial hippie therapist of the clans. He’s just a genuinely nice dude that wants everybody to hang out on his island and feel better.
As for the animatic itself, it took some time to work out the colors and style I wanted to go with. I decided on three distinct color palettes based on the time of day - one for night, one for evening, and one for morning. A smaller detail, but you might also notice those flowers in the background at certain points - those are anemone flowers! In the book, when Turtle Tail (the tortoiseshell cat in the beginning... Who I completely forgot has a short tail, by the way) dies, it’s mentioned that she was covered in petals after falling through wildflower bushes, and I thought that that was an interesting image to work with, so I expanded on that and added the flowers in various scenes to represent suffering. I chose anemone flowers specifically because a source I saw said that they could represent forsaken love, which I think fits, but then various other sites said they meant completely different things, so I dunno.
You know, I honestly never thought this animatic would actually be a thing. It started when I found the song and thought “huh! This would fit this situation pretty well” and then escalated to “well, story-boarding it would be a fun exercise!” and then to “well, the story-board’s done, I might as well just start making complete frames and see where it goes.” And then boom. It was done. Something that I never even thought I’d start. Inspiration is a strange thing. - Krátké a kreslené filmy
Ok “where did my friends go” just hit so hard because so many of these once close friends die off over time leaving so little of the original cast left, Dawn of the clans is really sad like that I think I’m gonna cry
RIver Ripple was an absolute sweetheart of a character
I really like the soft pallete you picked for this! And the images during ''my sisters quadrilaterals'' really hurt.
Well I didn't ship them before but I definitely do now! Love River Ripple's design and also love how gentle and fitting this song is. Really just made me happy to watch ❤️

I love how you do scenery and the way you illustrate thoughts, your composition I think is my favorite part of your work, like "my sisters are quadrilaterals" showing them buried underground in square graves
OMFG this is so cute!! River Ripple x Grey Wing is one of the most underrated Warriors ships and I am so glad to see high quality content for these boys!

This is so pretty. I love the pallets you used, especially the night pallet with the starry sky shots. Your style is super cute, too. I like how you portray emotions and how the backgrounds are generally pretty simple yet so nice to look at. I really hope this gets more attention, because it sure deserves it.

I don’t know why I’m crying, no wait. It’s because of how much this video has made me realize my feelings for Gray Wing, I deserve to tell him what an awesome pal I’ve had by my side for many moons, and how much I’ll love him. This is just a masterpiece.

Ok I came here from the Coyote PMV because it was amazing and I found this masterpiece? Dawn of the Clans is a series I love so much, it’s really underrated in the warriors community, and content of it seems so scarce, so seeing something beautiful like this was just really nice? This is making me feel all nostalgic, this video is so beautiful and underrated, thank you so much for making something wonderful with characters I love.
